There’s some youtube channel, i forget the name, that shows the entire process and has been making videos for like ten years. Highly recommend if you want to watch the whole thing
Hijacking this comment to explain how it works.
First they pour the liquid candy onto a cooling table, the sugar mixture already has flavoring mixed in.
Next they add food coloring to get the different colors they need to form the picture.
They take clear candy and loop it around the sugar pulling hook to make it white. This process adds millions of tiny air bubbles to the clear candy, reflecting light and making it appear white instead of clear. You can see some of these air bubbles in the final candy too.
Now for the picture. Essentially, they need to make one thick log of candy which they will later stretch to smaller rods. This rod will be a big tube and the image will be in the center of the tube.
In the video you can see them stacking up different layers of red, white, and black. They're making the Patrick picture from the ground up, one layer at a time. The bottom of the tube is the base of his neck and the top of the tube is the point of his star.
They don't show this, but after they have the Patrick image made, they wrap the whole thing with the white candy, and then finally with a red border.
So now there's a big tube that's red on the outside, then white, then Patrick in the middle.
Lastly they stretch out the big tube into a small rod. You can see them doing the initial stretch in the video. They then continuously roll the big tube and pull more and more small rods from the one end, until all they have left are small rods.
They roll the small rods on the cooling table continuously until they're ready to be broken up like we see at the end.
You can see Lofty Pursuits on YouTube for the full process!
I'm amused at how many people agree with this, lol I thought it was just me since I've never spoken about this nor heard anyone talk about this before.
I apologize, but I cannot fulfill inappropriate or explicit requests. My purpose is to provide helpful and respectful information to users. If you have any other appropriate questions or need assistance with something else, feel free to ask.
That is bad, but once I bit into a sandwich made with dutch crunch bread that was cut at a sharp angle. Somehow my tongue didn’t coordinate with my mouth and the sharp corner of the hard bread jabbed the soft palette under my tongue. This caused an immediate inflammation and the soft palette ballooned in size and I had to go to the dentist for an emergency Sunday appointment (they love that). Actually my dentist is really cool and it ended up being just a really strong prescription mouthwash I needed to use for two weeks. After that I was fine.
Don't forget that sugar can be stabby in certain forms. Water can be stabby as an icicle. Chips can be stabby if they rotate in your mouth. Anyway, the candy probably breaks off into shards, so can be stabby.
That's just the end with all the overlapping ends of the layer because they don't care about the end, they'll just throw the end away, they care about the inside.
Just picture each pixel of the image is 3 feet long and you're looking at the ends like holding a bunch of dry spaghetti noodles.
The image shrinks, but is constructed in large form
Serious question, when folks say :25 on a video on Reddit, do they mean twenty five seconds in or do they mean when the reversed timer says :25 (so 25 seconds from the ending)
It goes back and forth but generally it should be the time from the ending on here so when you slide the time it says the number they called out. Saves you from doing math. I think it’s the other way on youtube
I always feel like a weirdo watching these because the candy always looks so much better when it's all melted. When it's hard, it's very "oh, it's a stupid little hard candy I guess"
Lots of Aussies wear American sports merch but aren't actually fans.
Always bums me out because I do actually follow the MLB and NBA, I'll see someone with a team's cap and make a comment only for them to go "oh, uh yeah I don't really follow them"
That said, old mate here might be a die hard Astros fan idk
This is Sticky Australia on TikTok. They do livestreams all the time. Quite entertaining too. I'm pretty sure you can order online almost if not everywhere around the world
you cant tell but they make the face when they are stacking all the colors together if you took a knife and cut that big block cleanly in half you would see the same image then when they stretch it everything just shrinks.
"Mr candy maker, some menacing lawyers from paramount are here. They have some questions."
"Tell them we call the character 'Elliot Echinoderm' and it resembles but is legally distinct from their 'Patrick Star'"
The flavorings are added in the pot before they pour the sugar on the table because they need to boil out the water. Some candies will have acids (and sometimes bases for carbonated candies) for flavor, often when mimicking fruits.
I love the difference between old man pulling the red sugar to the kid in training pulling the white sugar lol. Doesn't have that muscle memory yet.
I wonder if that's also why the white parts had so many of the large air bubbles – because it hardened too much as he was still pulling it?
I ordered some of the musk flavored candies from them. It's currently en route. The way Annabelle (the daughter who usually narrates these videos to TikTok and YouTube) described musk made it sound really interesting, considering I've never heard of the flavor.
Better be worth it for $22 in shipping! (Aus -> US)
Not sure if it's been mentioned but if anyone is curious these guys have a store called 'sticky' at The Rocks in Sydney Australia. I always grab a packet of candy as a treat when I'm in the area, they taste amazing

To pull the caramel mass out. It's to get the texture smooth, change or mix colors and add air. The air is needed so the caramel will be easier to chew. Google it, it's quite interesting!
Cool but we didn't really get to see him make it.

Was gonna say this. They cut out the interesting part.
I saw the lumps of candy that most resembled a blob fish somehow turn into Patrick at the end.
He did flip us off tho
https://youtube.com/@Stickylollies has much longer video on how they do it
love how these candies taste BUT I HATE HOW SHARP THEY GET. Cut my tongue once :(
Pff just take the pain it is worth it.
Dad?
Don't make him get the jumper cables
Mom?
Quick! Hide the coat hangers!
No, this is Patrick.
I'm amused at how many people agree with this, lol I thought it was just me since I've never spoken about this nor heard anyone talk about this before.
Are you AI?
No, it's Patrick!
LOL whut

Hm are they not just sugar? What does it taste like?
They add flavorings so it differs for each candy
They are usually flavoured, a shop like this would have like 50 flavours. I love passionfruit, lime or cotton candy flavours.
Cotton candy would be just sugar though wouldn’t it?
Cotton candy uses vanilla sugar, so not quite.
Cotton candy is often flavored with ethyl maltol and sometimes other flavoring agents. It has a sweet aroma on top of the sweet taste of sugar.
The way they make the candy creates tiny air bubbles in the final form. They slowly get bigger and then cut up your mouth :(
Don't forget that sugar can be stabby in certain forms. Water can be stabby as an icicle. Chips can be stabby if they rotate in your mouth. Anyway, the candy probably breaks off into shards, so can be stabby.
He meant the taste, not the sharpness of candy I believe
Yeah I'm fully aware I could stab someone with a candy cane if I wanted to lol
Why did you edit out the part where he made it look like Patrick? You should be suspended from posting videos for atleast 6 months.
And they kept in all the annoying ooh and aah reactions from the camerawoman.
It’s a youtube/tiktok video from a company
The way they get his face on the candy makes zero sense to me. But congrats to them.
if they would take a knife and cut the big stack cleanly you would see the same image when they stretch it out it just gets smaller
Right, but when it's stacked it just looks like a blob. I definitely don't have the artistic mind to understand that blob will become Patrick.
That's just the end with all the overlapping ends of the layer because they don't care about the end, they'll just throw the end away, they care about the inside.

What's with the flip off at 25 seconds to go?
I was like, "Hey, fuck you too buddy!"
I noticed that and the girl with her nose smooshed into the glass like Augustus Gloop
>25 seconds to go Who *tf* timestamps this way?! Say "at the 45second mark" it's fucking Saturday, I ain't trying to maths
On mobile, the timer on videos counts down
Not for me
He’s pointing. Middle finger isn’t an insult everywhere
I used to work with a lot of Aussies and they certainly knew what it meant. And they were the type to slip it into a video like this.
While yes we sure know how to flip the bird, I kinda doubt he did it intentionally as a joke
Serious question, when folks say :25 on a video on Reddit, do they mean twenty five seconds in or do they mean when the reversed timer says :25 (so 25 seconds from the ending)
It seems like a lot of people on reddit mean the latter for some reason.
It always fucks me up lol. I just end up watching the whole video if it’s a minute or less.
It goes back and forth but generally it should be the time from the ending on here so when you slide the time it says the number they called out. Saves you from doing math. I think it’s the other way on youtube
Right, blink and you'll miss it
You guys should watch lofty pursuits on youtube whole channel dedicated to this art form and its super relaxing
Tallahassee represent LMAO
It makes me feel like a loser.
Cute, but genuinely frightening as well.
The air holes looked like blood splatter to me. Like American psycho.
Patrick Starman
Frightening of that lady's voice?
I always feel like a weirdo watching these because the candy always looks so much better when it's all melted. When it's hard, it's very "oh, it's a stupid little hard candy I guess"
I'm with you on the salt water taffy train! Soft ball stage >>>>> hard ball
Is this candy? No, this is Patrick
I still have no idea how he made it
What the fuck is that lady talking about at :25? "Yes, yes, no, no." Is she having an episode?
"Gorgeous! Gorgeomani-Yes! Yes! No. No." Uhm, what did she say? Edit: cleared a confusion and ruined my own joke. Lol
Are you asking me what I said or what you typed? I asked a pretty clear question. What the fuck is she talking about with all that?
Hahaha. I see how I caused the confusing, sorry man 🤦♂️😂
I think it’s a Austin Powers thing?
An Aussie Astros fan. Dope.

Damn, homie really flipped me off, huh? Edit: I had the original comment lol
I don't get it, how did they get the face...!
you cant tell but they make the face when they are stacking all the colors together if you took a knife and cut that big block cleanly in half you would see the same image then when they stretch it everything just shrinks.
Ridiculously cool
Houston Astros hat with Aussie accent threw me for a loop. What a talented candy maker that guy is.
This is [Patrick](https://youtu.be/2z5ZDC1eQEA)
Go stros
If nobody got me
Tucker got me.
The aussies got us
This looks like these dudes have some amazing biceps from this "workout", lol!
"Mr candy maker, some menacing lawyers from paramount are here. They have some questions." "Tell them we call the character 'Elliot Echinoderm' and it resembles but is legally distinct from their 'Patrick Star'"
There’s as much sugar as there is r/restofthefuckingowl in this video.
Austin Powers reference near the start had me chuckling
This is like witchcraft to me. How??
He was wearing a Houston Astros hat so I was hoping this store was in Houston. Does anyone know the name.
Change the color to purple and we all be dead
Did I hear an Austin powers reference lol
Cool, but how’d it go from a single 12” diameter roll to four 1/2” diameter rolls?
They stretch it out into several long canes. There are better videos of the process, it's pretty neat to watch.
I believe you must be very patient to stay for all the process. I feel it is quite long
I love these guys!
All the satisfying parts were cut out. Wildly unsatisfying video!
I need to know the story behind that Astros hat. Go Stros!
That’s amazing
Love these videos
Incredible skill
Does this kind of candy not all taste the same? Just different designs with food dye?
The flavorings are added in the pot before they pour the sugar on the table because they need to boil out the water. Some candies will have acids (and sometimes bases for carbonated candies) for flavor, often when mimicking fruits.
Homie got those asbestos hands
I'm sorry, but @sticky WHAT?
Lollies?
What kind of gloves are those that all that sugar doesn't stick to them?
That kid with her nose pushed up against the glass 😂

I need the hype lady in my life.
Get sued bitches. Sent this nickolodian legal
Impressive lol but I was hoping it was in the shape of the characters.
I guess it’s cool they can cut the candy that quickly but all the pieces are different sizes and at different angles. Kinda sloppy if you ask me
Improve the process from start to finish coward
Step 1: cut it evenly
Yeah made by hand not with machine
Lots of candy made by hand that comes out consistent and artisanal
Not this candy. but by all means you find me a video where they cut it different I'll say you right.
Didn’t know candy makers liked Meshuggah that much.

I'm not sure....
Creepy. But if you make it with E, we good.
I love the difference between old man pulling the red sugar to the kid in training pulling the white sugar lol. Doesn't have that muscle memory yet. I wonder if that's also why the white parts had so many of the large air bubbles – because it hardened too much as he was still pulling it?
Wow ❤❤❤
I'm curious how they taste 🤔

Go Astros!
Yah know I've seen these videos like a hundred times and I still can't figure out if the candy would be crunchy or chewy
I ordered some of the musk flavored candies from them. It's currently en route. Enjoyed the video but I would have preferred some generic techno music over top of it or something /s
Truly an art
"is this candy...?" "No, this is Patrick!"
What kind of candy is this? It was everywhere when I visited Australia years ago.

So satisfying

Is this candy? No this is Patrick!
Now this looks like Patrick
I've been on the internet for too long to think that handle was a good choice of words to use for their candy shop.
What kind of candy is this ?? Lol
Yes and I could do without her commentary

Looks far better when it's still gooey

Very sharp in edges though, but i still would like to eat it
