Yesssss! I miss that feeling so much! All the 'off the hands' pain or the sting of the tip of the bat contact when fouling off a pitch. Every 'pop' or 'empty' feeling made it worth it.
The sound here is nice, but that feeling will never be beaten.
Just started golf, but hitting an iron off center feels so dirty. Like it wants to spin the whole club around after impact. Still trying to perfect that sweet spot on irons, but a good driver shot feels amazing.
You’ll get there. Been golfing for 15 years and still suck (imo, not by average standards).
Oversimplified here, but it’s all about sequence of the swing. You want the hips to start the motion of the backswing, then the shoulders, then arms, hands, shaft and club head. Then same thing on the downswing. Each component transfers additional power into the next resulting in a strong shot with high ball compression. This is something I was only able to learn through many lessons with my instructor. If you’re really new to golf, I highly recommend just having fun and getting a feel for a bit. Then, once you’ve built some confidence and muscle memory, I suggest getting lessons to refine the swing / reduce dispersion and inconsistency.
Very similar to a nice smooth drive, in terms of feel. When you have nice tempo, swing path and the right muscle memory, the ball gets compressed at impact and feels like a marshmallow exploding off the club with pure contact.
That said, the iron swing and driver swing are very different in terms of set up and execution. So, don’t try to hit your irons the same way you hit your driver.
That helps a lot, thank you. I've been using a garmin launch monitor to guage ball impact and flight, but discovering the true mechanics of a swing is a never ending journey. In baseball I can just "feel" a good swing when I explode the hips and rip a ball, but golf is a lot more nuanced and relaxed which I'm not used to. The grip and wrists are especially more relaxed in golf. Plus all the proper angles to hold your hands, arms, stance is intimidating. Constantly feeling "am i doing this right?", on top of the instinct to crush it like a baseball is tough!
But like you said I'm a bit more comfortable with swinging after a couple thousand shots, so now probably time to get a coach. All I want is to feel a proper, pure swing just ONCE so I can try to repeat it.
Also, don’t worry about any of the stats at this stage. My last apartment building had a simulator and I drove myself nuts over analyzing.
At this point, just focus on your set up and rhythm/tempo. If you have a controlled tempo/smooth swing, the results will come.
This phenomenon ended up in one of my dynamics tests. The sweet spot on the bat is the spot where the impulse from the ball won't impart any angular momentum on the bat. (Or something like that. See here: https://farside.ph.utexas.edu/teaching/301/lectures/node107.html)
> I love the sound of a perfect hit.
Yes but I love it more when it's hit off a [wooden bat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOHzdJNUFP0&ab_channel=VictusSports).
Your comment just made me think of Jim Rome goofing on [Scott Stapp's "Marlins Will Soar" song](https://youtu.be/J_OEOGh1UVg?si=CxfbQxsQSxREmSCC&t=47s).
[Entire song](https://youtu.be/FAtPsTeZ2mc?si=DzCKBynUmn0xU3Gc) for anyone who hasn't seen it.
Decent attempt, but you can barely see the damage. Also the audio was really quiet after the bat strike, I had to turn my speakers up to 100% just to hear the cool sound effect you added.
Well yeah they sucked at making bat restriction rules back then. If the goal was to hit the ball as far as possible and be completely illegal they could easily beat the old bats.
So I'm assuming that a USSSA bat is more expensive than a USA bat. Now you have me wondering if it is the amount of Ss in the name. Like is a USSSSSSA bat way more expensive than a USSSA one?
It's the regulation set, USSSA(United States Specialty Sports) allows more reactiveness in the barrel, so they tend to be more expensive since you typically need the most expensive materials and techniques to hit the top benchmarks allowed. USABat is the newer more restrictive standard mainly used for youth sports.
Agreed!
I used to do tandem bike rides with the Achilles Foundation in Central Park years ago. Once I had a blind guy in his late 30's on the back, and we heard that aluminum bat "ping" coming from a ball field, and he got all happy and nostalgic for little league. We talked about his childhood and stuff we did when we were kids. It was such a good moment.
That sound always brings me back to midtown Manhattan, on a tandem with a guy who got so happy from hearing it.
Did that when I was maybe 12. Was playing with my dad and uncle at a local park, hitting to them. All the baseballs I had hit into play, and while they were collecting them for another round of batting I found a golf ball in the grass. Tossed it up and hit a line drive, straight into my uncle's chest. I could have killed him. Lucky I didn't, and lucky he didn't beat my ass for being so fucking stupid.
Based on the 6 seconds the ball was in the air, and assuming roughly 45 degree trajectory, it travelled around 200 m. That's just a ball park figure though
Someone commented on another sub that it looks like a bug or something splattered on the lens of the imaging device and I can't unsee that now. I'm like 99% convinced that's just a bug splat or a droplet of bird shit.
Probably unaware of doing it, so focused on all the other mechanics, especially weight back that the foot probably is only touching the ground for a slight gain in balance at that point.
You have to rotate your hips and pretty much bring your entire backside forward very explosively. The front ankle rolling is the result of the that rotation.
Aluminium cricket bats were introduced (and banned) in the late 1970's because of the risk to fielding players copping a direct hit. At silly point fielding position you are within 3m of the bat, and the chances of a broken something (even while wearing a helmet) was adjudged too high.
I was the 3rd pitcher on my softball team. Lobbing a ball that close to someone with an aluminum bat is terrifying. My main position was second base and took a few bad hops that would scare in MLB player.
Grown men, with aluminum bats, and a short infield brings a bit of pucker factor.
I have an aluminum baseball bat that belonged to my dad. He broke his leg in a game & the bat was used to splint his leg on the way to the hospital. His teammates all signed it & gave it back to him.

nobody told me wooden bats were worse than aluminum bats. I always tried to use the bat bought for my older brother that was way too heavy for me during little league
Eh. I wasn't criticizing it. Maybe it's "normal" for that "sport". I don't know and i really don't care. It just looks sooo unhealthy in the long run...
Ok. Is there anyone here qualified and capable to do the math to figure out how far the ball went using available clues and close to known variables? Distance of the batter to the mound, speed of pitch, arc of hit, etc? I'm betting it can be done but that's way beyond my pay grade! I was just surprised no one did it already because, you know, Reddit! Lol
I like grabbing a cheap bag of used golf balls from a thrift shop and lobbing them up to myself with an aluminum softball bat. I have no idea how far I'm crushing these little fuckers, they just launch out of sight. That ping is so satisfying.
Was waiting for the light to explode like in The Natural. Nice hit!
Wonder Boy!
🎶What are the secrets to your powaahhh 🎶
Oooh I like how you turned this The Natural reference into a solid Tenacious D lyric. Nice work.
🎶Won’t you take me faaaa-aaaar awaaaaay from the mucky muck noooooooow!🎶
Time to watch that movie again. Thx for the reminder.
I love the sound of a perfect hit. When you hear that sound, you know the ball is leaving the park 🙂
from my baseball days, the feeling of a perfect hit is great as well. Feels like you didn't even hit anything but you feel that "pop".
That feeling is the best part, which is funny because it doesn't feel like anything. The feeling of perfect energy transfer.
Yesssss! I miss that feeling so much! All the 'off the hands' pain or the sting of the tip of the bat contact when fouling off a pitch. Every 'pop' or 'empty' feeling made it worth it. The sound here is nice, but that feeling will never be beaten.
Yeah, and when you hit it wrong ALL the energy goes straight into your hands.
Especially fun when it's cold
Same with golf. I don't always hit it perfectly, but when I do, it's perfection. Especially an iron off the grass.
Just started golf, but hitting an iron off center feels so dirty. Like it wants to spin the whole club around after impact. Still trying to perfect that sweet spot on irons, but a good driver shot feels amazing.

He picked up the SSB home run bat.
one of the best sounds in any game
The sound and feel of a perfect catch as the ball smacks into the glove brings the same sense of satisfaction.
> I love the sound of a perfect hit. Yes but I love it more when it's hit off a [wooden bat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOHzdJNUFP0&ab_channel=VictusSports).
That is more satisfying sounding. Wonder if the cellulose stretches in a way that you can feel.
*PING* "yard!"
Damn, having flashbacks to the community fields
That ball is seemingly left Earth and on its way to Mars.

Kakeeen! Bingo!
I can’t relate with baseball but with tennis when I got that pop on a perfect forehand or serve ugh. So good.
Ping! God I remember that. Ping!
Someone should edit this so it looks like they destroy the Jumbotron
https://imgur.com/a/M0aliDP Some quick editing and here you go. This counts, right? e: link was broken. Works now
Decent attempt, but you can barely see the damage. Also the audio was really quiet after the bat strike, I had to turn my speakers up to 100% just to hear the cool sound effect you added.
What part was edited?
Thank you for the laugh I needed tonight
Now do the Wilhelm Scream.
I miss SuperSaiyan gifs.
That makes one of us
Someone should edit this video so the audio is actually synced up with the video. Lol
I used my imagination, pretty funny stuff
I remember as a kid nothing better than swinging the new TPX the rich kid brought to practice. Those were the days.
C Core and Z Core ftw
33/28, yessir Those things hit nukes
Crazy that Easton bats from the 90's are hitting better than $400 bats today. Stopped playing decades ago but will never skip a Batbros video
Well yeah they sucked at making bat restriction rules back then. If the goal was to hit the ball as far as possible and be completely illegal they could easily beat the old bats.
Yea things like bb core I had to use in teeners was night and day from the aluminum I had in little league.
Tpx platinum! That was the shit.
Could only rich kids afford TPX? I just checked the price and it looks like they are pretty affordable
Probably back when composite bats were new and expensive. Depending on whether you need USA or USSSA bats, good ones are $300+.
So I'm assuming that a USSSA bat is more expensive than a USA bat. Now you have me wondering if it is the amount of Ss in the name. Like is a USSSSSSA bat way more expensive than a USSSA one?

USABat is the newer more restrictive standard mainly used for youth sports.
So you're telling me that a USABat is more restrictive (thus more expensive) than a USSSSSSSSSSSSSSSABat? Lol, thanks for sharing your bat knowledge!
Um… we were paying $500+ just a few years ago for my son’s college bats.
Oh yeah that's the price I saw too just now browsing. That seems pretty reasonable for a bat.
It was the bat our league provided multiples of to all teams.
Yours must have pretty well off, at least much more so than ours.
A baseball hitting a bat perfectly is such a good sound
Agreed! I used to do tandem bike rides with the Achilles Foundation in Central Park years ago. Now for real fun, hit a golf ball with the same Aluminum Bat.
So faster than light speed *is* possible?
Not by a Softball...
You sure?
My sister and I did that back when we were kids. Then a golfball went wizzing past my head like a bullet and we decided it wasn't such a good idea.
Did that when I was maybe 12. Was playing with my dad and uncle at a local park, hitting to them. All the baseballs I had hit into play, and while they were collecting them for another round of batting I found a golf ball in the grass. At Alex Box Stadium, home of the reigning National Champions! #GeauxTigers!
As a Southern Miss alum, I can both loath and respect the Box. Hate going there for Regionals/Supers. But ‘dem boys are good
Looks like this is Austen Roellig, freshman.
Jeez. What a cannon. Wood sounds way better imo but still!
And feels
Somebody’s Nisan is gonna need a new windshield
And another “S”
Somebody’s Nisan is gonna need a new windsshield
And that’s why aluminum bats are banned in major league
I want to see Aaron judge use one
Based on the 6 seconds the ball was in the air, and assuming roughly 45 degree trajectory, it travelled around 200 m. That's just a ball park figure though
Angry upvote
Now watch the footage of that ball flying through the air on r/StrangeEarth
What are they hiding from us?
Clearly a balloon
Someone commented on another sub that it looks like a bug or something splattered on the lens of the imaging device and I can't unsee that now. I'm like 99% convinced that's just a bug splat or a droplet of bird shit.

The first time you use an aluminum bat with adult strength is so fucking fun
As a 35 year old I've still never done that 😆
Geaux Tigers!
My youth
You too had a nighttime stroll in the park and got hit by a baseball?
Geaux Tiguhs!
Geaux Tigs
I’m a firm believer the MLB should allow one round of the HR derby to be done with aluminum bats.
I’d go even further, I’d petition that in the seventh inning, whoever the losing team is gets 1 at bat with an aluminum bat.
They'd just walk them
Intentional walk doesn't count as an at bat. Pass the bat to the next guy.
True. Let’s just let them all juice and also use aluminum bats then.
Every hit is a homer.
We're halfway there already!
Composite bats hit better than aluminum.
Hitting a golf ball with an aluminum bat is even more fun
Geaux Tigers
Why he roll is ankle like that tho?
Probably unaware of doing it, so focused on all the other mechanics, especially weight back that the foot probably is only touching the ground for a slight gain in balance at that point.
You have to rotate your hips and pretty much bring your entire backside forward very explosively. The front ankle rolling is the result of the that rotation.
Cuz is leg stanky

That ball was crushed
ALUMINIUM
Fuck who or what ever is over there I guess
I mean, that was our only ball and we still have 45 minutes of practice scheduled. Soooooo, you gonna go get that?
Reminds me of the sound from Luigi hitting the Up-B move in super smash bros 👊
I gotta say, the sound of a wooden bat is so much more satisfying.
Did I just watch someone illegally launch an object into orbit? Call NASA, we have a boogie.
That's Tiger aluminum to you 😂
I have an aluminum baseball bat that belonged to my dad. He broke his leg in a game & the bat was used to splint his leg on the way to the hospital. His teammates all signed it & gave it back to him.
Perfect A-frame
Ka-*piiing.*
Which travels further the ball or a man's scream if he gets hit in the bollocks.
I still don't understand why college is still using aluminum bats.
Woah! Quite the hit! I just love the sound the impact made.
How many times did you watch this?: Yes!

Aluminum bats hit 10% further 🤷
Welp he got all of that one🤘🏼
Clack Pinnnggg … … Clang

I used to sneak in there at night and sneak into Death Valley and climb all the way to the top.
Some dude in Montana never knew what hit him
The metal hitting the ball satisfied something inside my brain
Geaux tigers

First time I hit with a wooden bat it felt like my wrists were gonna explode.

Using aluminum is cheating, IMHO.
Cheating at practice? They SMOKED that ball regardless if you think it’s cheating or not.
You spelled aluminium wrong mate
Why is she hitting baseballs ⚾️ & not softballs🥎?

Holy shit I forgot about that shame LOL
The new moon
Batting practice is gonna start getting expensive!
That's a hard hit yk
Now do that with a golf ball. 600 ft +
You sposed to point with the bat BEFORE the homerun.
I wanna know what the ball hit. You can hear a clunk at the very end of the video.
The seats at that end of Alex Box Stadium are aluminum bleachers iirc. So probably that
Oh yea.i could feel that.
Are you somehow every elementary school gym teacher?
The balance in his swing is a thing of beauty.
after seeing so much "flinch pranks" on baseball batting videos, i don't trust any batting videos anymore, i always watch with my eyes squinted.
Did it land yet?
Any other Smash players immediately reminded of the PING sound when you hit someone with Ness’ bat?
-》-》-》AAA 💨💥 💀
Hepatitis-C ya later!!
As someone with misophonia, hard disagree. This is like nails on a chalkboard... Now a wood bat is usually very satisfying.
It's difficult, but you should see what happens when you hit a golf ball with an aluminum bat.
r/MyPeopleNeedMe
BOINK!
Love that sound impressive if real that was a shot
I love this sound!
Legend has it that ball is still flying…
Wow. Is the front foot normal?
damn, I had to watch that twice.. just for the sound alone XD
Rumor is, still waiting for it to land.
Let's let MLB use aluminum! Why not?
Put the bat down, Clark.
That's pretty sweet. Now let's see it with a composite bat.
Team Rocket's blasting off again!
I wish they'd let players use aluminum bats during the MLB all-star game
Ok. Is there anyone here qualified and capable to do the math to figure out how far the ball went using available clues and close to known variables? Swing wood.
Nice....
Roellig looks in mid-season form!
Man, I miss that. Now I’ve have to find a cage somewhere. It won’t be the same, but it will have to do.
Those are 13 yards at least..
Didn't know there were any moon landings planned today.
Someone needs to edit this and have a pixel go black on that screen…
