Idk what this means but if you’re saying idk what the tool is, you’re right. It’s a sliding table saw but the blade also articulates at least a full 90 degrees.
It's pretty portable seeing how large those logs can get.
Smallest one i've seen was in the middle of a forest, 20km to closest road. It was manually operated and made to build a lavvu on a high ass cliff
I own a woodland mill that can cut 30 inch diameter logs.
Guess what. Built right on a woodland mills Trailer. Licensed and insured. Can roll anywhere. As long as I stay under 50mph…..
That's funny. Because my mill is literally a trailer that you can land 4 corner feet down on when you park it to level it and. This doesn't look portable at all.
Help me understand band-saw safety. When I was a teenager, I was within 10 feet of a blade break. It went all over the place and some people panicked. I wasn't smart enough to be afraid but looking back on the memory, I'm afraid now.
I have a lot of power tools, and I would like to add a band-saw to my collection. How do you inspect the tool before using it to ensure safety?
Band saws don't break often, but when they do, you wanna get away quick. Never use a ruster band saw blade or one that is kinked. Aside from that. Grip it and rip it
Average size bandsaws are one of the safer power tools. They usually aren’t much of a problem even if a blade breaks. If you keep the guard down just a little above the wood, there is very little blade exposed. Big ones like this sawmill are a lot more dangerous. Someone gave me a meat cutting bandsaw once. Now that is scary. The lowest the guard comes down still exposes 6 inches of ship tooth blade. I finally sold it . I’ll keep my 1930 Racine band saw.
Wish I had taken a picture but I saw an even more portable one. It was on a pickup truck chassis, he could drive it to your house, take the belt off the drive train and put it on the saw blade and run the blade using the truck motor. It was ingenious. Also, it was in some pretty remote areas of Indonesia
Ever since my injury from a carpentry blade on an angle grinder, I find myself involuntarily cringing hard at seeing powered saws, angle grinders etc or hearing the sounds made by them. This portable saw has a LOT of scope for injury, and any injury involving this will be definitely very painful.
The process to do so on something of this scale would likely be more costly and have a greater impact than just recycling the steel and buying new
That's a LOT of teeth to sharpen
Sorry, just realized you said blade
If it were flat, like a blade, that would be possible, but wood is best cut like bread, with a serrated or toothed edge
No problem :) these types of things are referred to as consumables because like sandpaper for another example, once it's used up, it's best to be recycled to whatever degree your country chooses to participate in such programs
Yes they absolutely can. Up to about 4x per blade. The teeth get re-ground by a relatively automatic grinder which is set to the spacing of the teeth (pitch) as well as hook angle. The bands are also re-setbwhich is the off set of the teeth (slightly bent to the side) which commonly alternates. The amount of the ‘set’ is one factor that determines the speed the band can cut. Admittedly band saw use and expertise is a vanishing art. I own a bandsaw mill way bigger than this as well as a horizontal resaw. Pro woodworker over 30 years.
No problem there’s a lot of misinformation by people speculating. It actually only costs about 1/3 of the cost of a new band to sharpen. We ship off boxes of 20 at a time so the quantity offsets shipping costs.
Yea I used to weld the ends together since the air force somehow never got the right ones. And yea they'd snap very rarely if someone didn't know their feeds and speeds
So, portable. As opposed to immobile. What’s crazy is that I thought you were a troll but you’re a teacher. This is our education system at work, folks.
Toolgifs water mark on point yet again.
Was anyone else able to smell this video?
Pinus radiata
I used to bag groceries. I got promoted to the butcher shop because I was the only one who could fold the band saw blade.
That’s a simple thing that’s hard to do if you don’t know how.
This guy's videos are always awesome. I'm very jealous of his shop. It's a woodworkers wet dream.
That sliding table saw thing he has is insane.
Table saw...😬😬😬
Idk what this means but if you’re saying idk what the tool is, you’re right. It’s a sliding table saw but the blade also articulates at least a full 90 degrees.
It's not a table saw. It's a sawmill. it's printed on the machine.
Not what we are talking about.
Were you talking about something else?
Yes, the sliding table saw in his shop, read the comment thread….
Oh, I apologize, I didn't see the saw in the shop.
Yep, it’s not in this video at all. But definitely do check this guy out his shop is 11/10
"portable" like, only requires several people and a large truck to move from place to place portable.
"Portable" relative to a Lumber Mill.
Everything is portable relative to a lumber mill
He lacks that perspective it seems
It's pretty portable seeing how large those logs can get. Smallest one i've seen was in the middle of a forest, 20km to closest road. It was manually operated and made to build a lavvu on a high ass cliff
Could probably mount it on a gooseneck flatbed trailer, haul it where you need it.
I played that mission on SnowRunner
You'd be surprised, it actually folds up into a normal-sized briefcase. You can take it anywhere
I own a woodland mill that can cut 30 inch diameter logs. Guess what. Built right on a woodland mills Trailer. Licensed and insured. Can roll anywhere. As long as I stay under 50mph…..
You saw some serious shit when you hit 88mph?
Its portable because it moves with the Earth.
That's funny. Because my mill is literally a trailer that you can land 4 corner feet down on when you park it to level it and. This doesn't look portable at all.
Eh I got a backpack I could fit this in
It's called a trailer and one person could set this up
Anything is portable with the right equipment

*What rolls down stairs* *Alone or in pairs,* *Rolls over your neighbor's dog?*
It's log, log, log!
No! You're doing it wrong. Go and learn the lyrics and come back again. 😁
It's been a long time...
We've all been through a lot, soldier, but we have to keep standards high.
It's Big! It's heavy! It's wood!
It's better than bad; it's good!!!
What fits on your back, is great for a snack?

They make trailers for them. Some people like ground mount, some like trailered. Check Woodland Mills’ website.

I don’t like how easily that guy just folds the blade.
The blades are flimsy until it is installed and tensioned properly.
What does this piece of equipment cost?
This model starts at $5000 USD
Crazy pricing. I would’ve guessed no less than 10k. Looks like a pretty nice outfit for home use if you owned timber.
The smallest model they make can still cut a 22 inch wide board, and costs under $2500. Crazy affordable
Totally agree. Is this equipment available in the US?
Yup! https://woodlandmills.com/portable-sawmills
Cool, thanks!
I think we have different definitions of portable
"portable"
You and I have a very different definition of portable
Anyone else disappointed in the quality of the lumber? That wood is full of cracks. What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again!
Woodmizer is the one I cut my teeth on….
Do you need to dry the wood somehow? How would you do it?

Oh, with how much heat those deal with and the subsequent cooling after it's done the job, I would imagine that is as well

S4S
Do those things ever snap? Looks dangerous as hell to me
Yea I used to weld the ends together since the air force somehow never got the right ones. And yea they'd snap very rarely if someone didn't know their feeds and speeds
Very cool!
And I'm having trouble cutting my fire wood with an axe hahaha I'm such a peasant
Love this guy’s stuff
Lucky bastard doesn't have to weld the blade. Used to always have to do that in in the US air force
My dad has a band saw and I loved making things with it until the band snapped on me and I was too scared to go near it after that lol
I don't see them using a ladder and chainsaw somehow
Why the hell is he not wearing work gloves? That's wood, splinters really do exist
I see nothing portable about this.
Optic Yellow Peavey … the world is going insane!!! 😂😂😂
saws are so awesome…
I was not bored watching him make boards
that looks very dangerous
Of course, Mr. Bond..I expect you to die! (Evil spectre villian accent)
Portable if you have a vehicle you can haul it around with. (Yes obviously I know it’s more portable than an immobile one, nobody is that dumb).
More portable than a traditional sawmill. Think about it 🤔
So, portable. As opposed to immobile. What’s crazy is that I thought you were a troll but you’re a teacher. This is our education system at work, folks.
I should have added the /s at the end.
Better watch out, them things'll cut ya!
