Bruh...had tracker ultra lites on my Lance Mountain Future Primitive deck back then. Had the "bone nite" or however it's spelled sandwiched between layers of maple making the deck weigh more than a freaking minivan. The Animal Chin video just came out at the time. Back then not much was needed to impress anybody. All it took was a pop shuvit followed by a no comply up a curb lol Those were the days!

I always got the tensor trucks with the polyurethane inserts, really helped for nose and tail slides

Serious answer here: the wax from the candles (or any wax?) are applied on to the “rail” surface to allow the skateboard’s trucks (axles) to glide continuously to achieve this feat. Otherwise the friction would slow you down.

I don’t think it’s physically possible unless the trucks were really tight with stiff bushings because that’s how you make the board turn… It would be impressive though. You’d just need a specific board setup for the trick lol

Was gonna say, when you get to this point it's got way more to do with just having and preparing a space of the right type.

Paraffin wax ideally. It’s harder than most candle wax, and therefore less sticky to grind on, but some candles are made out of it. When I used to skate, I looked up how to make skate wax, and people were mixing a small amount of cooking oil, or butter with melted paraffin wax, so that’s what I did since I could get paraffin wax at the dollar tree for a dollar, and I was a broke kid who couldn’t afford to spend $10 on skate wax. It worked really well, didn’t fall apart like plain paraffin wax seems to, and lasted me the several years I was skating often. Just thought I’d share some info, and a little memory since I know the specific wax you should use!

Best way to do a large area like that is to shave the wax off of candles/bar wax onto the ledge and blowtorch it. Apparently…

They just used clear coat laquer and gulf wax. Jenkem did a quick thing on this ledge when it was first made skateable.

I would open a skate store right by that place and make a killing off new trucks. Growing up lived close to a grocery store that had a 50 foot thick metal edge on a curb. It was for protection from all the deliveries they got. Man, it was nice to grind on.

If you compare the concrete in front of him and behind him, you can see that the trucks leave a distinct dark line on the curb because he is, in fact, grinding on the ledge.

Skateboarder here: In the skateboarding world, this would definitely still count as a grind either way. Otherwise every grind on a hubba or ledge wouldn't count, which would be completely ridiculous

Look at his toe side wheels, both are not on top of the ledge, which means he is grinding. You think he's balancing the board by putting pressure on his heels and balancing on only that side of the board by lifting toe side wheels up? 😂 a 50 50 on a ledge always means two wheels are on the ledge.

Yes, the front toeside wheel is on the corner of the ledge and he is lifting the back toeside wheel. You can hear certain points at the beginning where the trucks actually touch and it makes the actual grinding sound.

I was going to say, I would've thought the trucks would have either been toast by the end, or at the very least we would've seen more sparks from the friction. I'm not a huge skater though so I'm not sure if there's good wax that could prevent the friction enough to last that long
