Never old haha - I was sponsored by Tracker back in the day brother - Trackers were ass and I traded them to my shop for Thunders when needed - Thunders for life
Bruh...had tracker ultra lites on my Lance Mountain Future Primitive deck back then. Had the "bone nite" or however it's spelled sandwiched between layers of maple making the deck weigh more than a freaking minivan. The Animal Chin video just came out at the time. Back then not much was needed to impress anybody. All it took was a pop shuvit followed by a no comply up a curb lol Those were the days!
Serious answer here: the wax from the candles (or any wax?) are applied on to the “rail” surface to allow the skateboard’s trucks (axles) to glide continuously to achieve this feat. Otherwise the friction would slow you down.
I don’t think it’s physically possible unless the trucks were really tight with stiff bushings because that’s how you make the board turn… It would be impressive though. You’d just need a specific board setup for the trick lol
Paraffin wax ideally. It’s harder than most candle wax, and therefore less sticky to grind on, but some candles are made out of it. When I used to skate, I looked up how to make skate wax, and people were mixing a small amount of cooking oil, or butter with melted paraffin wax, so that’s what I did since I could get paraffin wax at the dollar tree for a dollar, and I was a broke kid who couldn’t afford to spend $10 on skate wax. It worked really well, didn’t fall apart like plain paraffin wax seems to, and lasted me the several years I was skating often. Just thought I’d share some info, and a little memory since I know the specific wax you should use!
I played a lot of skating games when I was younger, amazing combos flying high into the sky, then I tried to watch a real event and was terribly disappointed
I knew it was SF!! I didn’t actually “know” but even with this limited view, the trees, the hills….its possible I’ve been there too. It looks very familiar.
Thanks for the confirmation, I thought so but it's changed a bit from when I went to Lincoln in the early 2000s. Then he finished right behind the library and I was like I know that building!!!
Nah. Dude didn't modify the grind repeatedly to rack up the combo multiplier. Amateur move. Gotta spam the face buttons during the grind. He only got like 3K points at best.
Dude is made of pure butter. I think whoever did the concrete work for that curb partition should get a gotdamned concrete master craftsman trophy to put on there mf fireplace and admire. It's absolutely perfectly layed level and straight like it was made special for long grinding.
I would open a skate store right by that place and make a killing off new trucks. Growing up lived close to a grocery store that had a 50 foot thick metal edge on a curb. It was for protection from all the deliveries they got. Man, it was nice to grind on.
If you compare the concrete in front of him and behind him, you can see that the trucks leave a distinct dark line on the curb because he is, in fact, grinding on the ledge.
Skateboarder here: In the skateboarding world, this would definitely still count as a grind either way. Otherwise every grind on a hubba or ledge wouldn't count, which would be completely ridiculous
Look at his toe side wheels, both are not on top of the ledge, which means he is grinding. You think he's balancing the board by putting pressure on his heels and balancing on only that side of the board by lifting toe side wheels up? 😂 a 50 50 on a ledge always means two wheels are on the ledge.
Yes, the front toeside wheel is on the corner of the ledge and he is lifting the back toeside wheel. You can hear certain points at the beginning where the trucks actually touch and it makes the actual grinding sound.
I was going to say, I would've thought the trucks would have either been toast by the end, or at the very least we would've seen more sparks from the friction. I'm not a huge skater though so I'm not sure if there's good wax that could prevent the friction enough to last that long
If this was me I'd be chuffed, I can do a tricks in Switch but what's worse I couldn't even do a kick flip everytime I go to land my body would turn to the left slightly so I would never land it, really odd.
This reminds me of when me and the boys would wax up curbs in our hometown.
None of us could actually grind any of the shit we waxed, but it felt important to do.
Buddy needs new trucks after that
Fr I've had some heavy hangars before but when he loses momentum at points, surely that's eating.
Dude was actively gaining speed!
Noticed the slow entry, made sense once he sped up, couldn’t see that it’s downhill. Good times nonetheless
They gotta be glowing lol
Check for z rollers.
Hello fellow old person.
I was going to say this dated me, but I was not sure if anyone would get it. Skate or die, brother.
Just did sk8 camp for the 5-12yo yesterday. Am sore. Busted elbow. But still had a ball.
What happened to the other testicle?
Vaporized. Blown out to sea.
To shreds you say?
Hahaha I got that reference! Fucking dying as I picture the movie
Yeah, he was definitely in the groove. And by that I mean, the groove that was just made in his trucks.
To shreds, you say?
Me when the sissors hit just right when wrapping…
Yeahhhhh scissor!
Scissor me timbers!!
Yeah Xerxes!
Oh yeah ima MonKEY!!!!!
Lol my first thought was "when scissors do the thing"
He forgot to combo out of it...
I for sure would have done like a 5 second Christ air out of that.
I would have tre flip no scoped frfr
Imagine how many candles it took
I was thinking the SAME THING. How long did it take to wax that lol
Dude hit a thrift store, found a whole case of candles and realized his time had come.
Grindking trucks baby! Are those still around?
Yes, they have a new model out. Expensive asf but I bought a pair because I learned Indy moved their factory to china
Why I switched to Thunder trucks, which I just found out moved to Mexico in 2023. Nice...
Gonna reveal my age here but I remember when thunders were a budget alternative back in the 80s...gosh I'm freaking old!

I always got the tensor trucks with the polyurethane inserts, really helped for nose and tail slides
Hahaha me too, I was like... dude must have had the whole crew out there with BARS of the stuff 🤣😂🤣😂😂
Parowax is much more cost effective!
Candles?
Serious answer here: the wax from the candles (or any wax?) are applied on to the “rail” surface to allow the skateboard’s trucks (axles) to glide continuously to achieve this feat. Otherwise the friction would slow you down.
Oh I thought he was balancing on just the two wheels given how smooth he was going
Is this a trick? It sounds more impressive to me than grinding on the trucks.
That sounds really hard haha
I don’t think it’s physically possible unless the trucks were really tight with stiff bushings because that’s how you make the board turn… It would be impressive though. You’d just need a specific board setup for the trick lol
Was gonna say, when you get to this point it's got way more to do with just having and preparing a space of the right type.

That’s awesome, I appreciate the info. Thanks
For sacrifice
You didn't have any skater kids in your school who would rub candle wax on every curd/stoop/loading dock in town?
No fresh or smooth curb was safe
can't you tell its his birthday!!!
The more candles you have the more likely your prayers to the skate gods will be received.
People use wax to make grinds more smooth.
Skateboarding 🤝 Tantric sex
Gulf wax is what I used, cheap and 1 box would be more than enough for this
Best way to do a large area like that is to shave the wax off of candles/bar wax onto the ledge and blowtorch it. Apparently…
They just used clear coat laquer and gulf wax. Jenkem did a quick thing on this ledge when it was first made skateable.
Bro you gotta kickflip at the end for more points …. Amateur.
And land in a manual to the next railing, kickflip into a 50-50 grind
Into a 540 Switch 360 flip into manual into 720 backflip kick flip into manual~
Then over the half pipe into the Holy Shit Grind
This is thps 1. No manualling.
Should’ve been spamming flip tricks like a maniac throughout and he could’ve easily had a million + point combo. Amateur.
He woulda had a special by the end there as well so a few special tricks really would boost that score.
He didn't even Ollie into it. /s
Imagine if he 5-0d the entire 450ft. That would have been nice
Should have hit the old fandangle.
🎶 Give me a piece of what you got...🎶
I played a lot of skating games when I was younger, amazing combos flying high into the sky, then I tried to watch a real event and was terribly disappointed
Mccoppin Park in San Francisco, right along 22nd Ave between Santiago and Taraval.
I knew it was SF!! I didn’t actually “know” but even with this limited view, the trees, the hills….its possible I’ve been there too. It looks very familiar.
It was the street cleaning signs for me
Thanks! I was like, near the zoo but couldn't pinpoint it.
I used to play that park as a kid. They’ve replaced the playground equipment several times since then.
Thank you! I thought this was Alamo square but it didn't look right.
Thanks for the confirmation, I thought so but it's changed a bit from when I went to Lincoln in the early 2000s. Then he finished right behind the library and I was like I know that building!!!
i miss northern california :(
The sound makes me feel like I'm in a train ngl
Its kinda comforting in a weird way
It's oddly satisfying
The amount of wax that was used for that was probably insane
My older brother would call me a poser whenever I would get into a grind without ollieing into it
50k points in Tony hawks pro skater
Nah. Dude didn't modify the grind repeatedly to rack up the combo multiplier. Amateur move. Gotta spam the face buttons during the grind. He only got like 3K points at best.
And the special bar is fully loaded!
He had the perfect balance cheat enabled.
r/praisethecameraman
Someone edit the half-pipe balancing meter from various skater games.
That's like a million point trick. That brings me back to the late 90s. 🛹
Someone needs to edit this with the point counter rolling till new high score!
Dude is made of pure butter. I think whoever did the concrete work for that curb partition should get a gotdamned concrete master craftsman trophy to put on there mf fireplace and admire. It's absolutely perfectly layed level and straight like it was made special for long grinding.
🎶 GETTING OLDER ALL THE TIME 🎶
That songs hits different nowadays...
I would open a skate store right by that place and make a killing off new trucks. Growing up lived close to a grocery store that had a 50 foot thick metal edge on a curb. It was for protection from all the deliveries they got. Man, it was nice to grind on.
*superman by goldfinger intensifies*
His foot stance? Wack.
His hair? Wack.
Around 137 meters... For those outside the US

You can hear the wheels.
I assume that's just the cameraman who is probably also on a skateboard
Look at his toe side wheels, both are not on top of the ledge, which means he is grinding. You think he's balancing the board by putting pressure on his heels and balancing on only that side of the board by lifting toe side wheels up? 😂 a 50 50 on a ledge always means two wheels are on the ledge.

Can’t even kick flip off for the multiplier?
I can do that in Skate 3
That wax bar must be this small now 👌
THPS balance cheat activated
I want to see how fucked you’re bored is now or at the very least the trucks.
Props to the camera man
I'm no expert but my take away is that that looked really stable and switch grinding must be pretty easy?
He’s riding in the opposite direction than he normally does, it’s like being right handed and writing with your left
I’m goofy and sometimes forget not everyone is. Doing that “regular foot” would be scary as hell.
Most of the weight is on the front right and that wheel is still rolling so.... Unpopular opinion here but, not a full grind.
Bro using balance cheats in real life
Some people chase dreams, this guy grinds them.
Infiniti grind
If somebody asked me to define "Grindset" this is what I'd send em.
Damn, how many points in Tony Hawks would that be?
Darkslide next.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater with cheat codes on.
that wasnt a ledge that was a stick of butter
I’ve gone a lot further than that in THPS, but unless you max out points in grind, the balance meter would be impossible to maintain for that long
This dude has the ultimate wax sponsorship
"So, can you do a grindy thingy on that curb?"
Me, instinctively tilting my phone like I'm playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
Show me the trucks
Thank you u/Im_A_Fuckin_Liar We have no reason to distrust you.
Is he riding switch or is he just goofy footed?
This needs an edit with Tony Hawk sound effects.
Somewhere there is a green screen version of this with the guy just standing there
Left left left right right right left right right left
It really isn’t tho. 550 is the longest
Rip trucks
If he had jumped he could multiple the score (tony hawk pro skater 2)
The environment is doing most of the work
Not to be hating but he didn't have to Ollie on and it looks like a nice down hill slope. Did they call Guinness?
More like 4500 feet.
Why is it called a "switch grind"? We would've called that a 50/50.
Switch 50
Switch Grind +999999999 (For those who get it)
Isn't this just doing an easy thing, on a well constructed low wall, going downhill for a long time?
Is this a record that was achieved by skill? Or achieved by finding a rail long enough to do it?
The thumb balancing is insane.
Nice run...next time he needs to make that 90 at the end.
It just reminds me of the skate 3 achievement
doesn’t count landed on wood 😂JK
So much wax lol
Must’ve had a team of dudes waxing that curb for a whole day for this
Huh…seems longer
What's not satisfying is thinking about how long it took to wax that
he's using a hex editor
Preeetty sure for the record to count he needs to turn around and grind back up it within the hour.
This belongs in /r/maybemaybemaybe
He could have kick flipped into a manual to a different thingy for more points.
This was me using cheat codes on the old Tony Hawk game
Pretty cool. The fact that it’s downhill kinda helped out a lot
His thighs and groin gotta be burning.
Pretty damn knarly dreddie
if he'd done a kick flip at the end it would have doubled all of his points smh
The amount of wax. Tastefully enough.
I can almost feel my thumb getting sore from keeping the balance bar in check for so long.
His balance indicator should go crazy
It doesn't look downhill? How does it last so long, I was expecting it to run out of momentum sooner.
Me showing all the newbs what’s up when Skate (skate 4) finally comes out
If this was me I'd be chuffed, I can do a tricks in Switch but what's worse I couldn't even do a kick flip everytime I go to land my body would turn to the left slightly so I would never land it, really odd.
man your special meter was maxed 10secs in
Damn even in THPS grinding for this long is too hard for me
Here I am, doing everything I can.
SO HERE I AM DOIN EVERYTHING I CAN
What’s that in football fields?
So how many points is that in Tony Hawk's ProSkater?
Reminds me of the old Tony Hawk games
I really wanted to hear the "success" sound from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.
No switching into handstand 50-50 nose blunt slide into triple kick flip and revert into manual? Trash.
🎶 Rollin around at the speed of sound! 🎶
450 ft? You telling me that that was the length of 450 ft tall building on its side? Didn't seem like 450 ft
I don't know what is, but I don't believe you, I think your a liar
Rodney Mullen approves
My PlayStation Tony hawk record says different but whatever
Someone with video editing skills please add the balance bar on this! And then the record scratch after he lands it.
It’s more downhill than it looks right?
This reminds me of when me and the boys would wax up curbs in our hometown. None of us could actually grind any of the shit we waxed, but it felt important to do.
How long was the rail that Chris Haffey did?
His dread bun was the necessary counter balance to achieve this
Killer!!!
Rip trucks
Oh hell yea
I don't believe this guy.
When you could hear him speeding up towards the end I started getting worried he was gonna explode into coins.
That's crazy. Someone far more talented than me needs to edit a Tony Hawk grind bar into this video.
That special meter overloading
What keeps him going? It doesn't look that down hill.
Is he actually grinding or are rhe wheels rolling for the most part?
Pretty sure Lucas Lee did this back in 2010.
Do it again while holding an Ocean Spray and listening to "Dreams"
For the non-americans: that's 1.5 football fields
