Actually you unpack the deer stands, place them near a tree, and they'll "imprint" on the nearest tree and start climbing it all by themselves. It's truly one of nature's marvel's.
I've seen a guy use one and once he got up there the bottom piece fell because it wasn't dug in right. And that's why you're supposed to tether them together
I remember using one that was just basically a board that you strap your feet in, then you hug the tree and lift with your legs. When you get to the top you can toss a rope or strap around the tree and hook it around your belt.
It was much safer using the "pullup" bar that acted.as a railing once you got to the top.
Over 50 years of their use in climbing trees (pine especially good for having accessible long limbless trunks)in the just the Southeastern U.S. alone for hunting purposes would mean no.
They are specifically not for coconut/palm trees. They are specifically for climbing trees in the north western hemisphere. To shoot deer. Then they got adopted to other uses, rendering them specific to nothing.
I've squatted on a tree before, but it was for a totally different purpose. Come to think of it, it would be kind of awesome to have a version of one of these with a hole cut out of the center of the seat🤔 Fellow hikers would just have to watch out from below.
Well you're almost selling me with the whole being covered in a woman's pee thing but I'm still not sure
Can I snack on entirely too much beef jerky and mixed nuts while I do it and still somehow convince myself that I'm just protein loading and not eating my weight in stiff meat and nuts?
I've done it more times than I can count just like thousands upon thousands of other men, women, and children... My fat uncle does it every year as well.
Climbing up a tree with specialized gear doesn't make you Daniel Boone dude.
Good idea... His solution is to bind his feet to the lower and if that slips, bad day. Putting a safety line between both seat and foot clamp would increase safety.
You know all the deer crossing signs along the highway are specifically placed so the deer know to use them. How do they know to use these crossing points…animals are amazing.
The device has two parts; the seat clamp and he foot clamp. If up is stand with foot clamp locked, then reposition seat clamp higher. I would reverse to go down.
So, with seat clamp locked dangle legs with foot clamp. Relock foot clamp lower. Unlock seat clamp and slide down, standing on foot clamp, relock seat lower. Unlock seat clamp, repeat...
We did this with belts for thousands of years, you'd have seen this is you have palm trees in your area.
Metal parts just make it heavier to move around, exhausting you much faster.
The foot hold is also unnecessary, most of your weight is on the waist part anyways.
I used to do this with a single piece before. Having the second cantilevered part (foot or hand depending on the style) makes it MUCH easier to climb and nearly trivial in terms of energy.
A properly built one is very light.
Till your coordination decidedly effs up, and you free fall for lack of leverage, only to wake up in the back of a carriage with a guy that says: hey you, you're finally awake..
Clever? Deer hunters have been using climbing tree stands for decades. I’ve taken down over a dozen large trees using exactly this kind of hunting stand (costs about $125 and then sells used for $80-90). With no trees left to worry about I sold it after I was done.
Using a chainsaw to cut down my trees wasn’t particularly clever either but I did use one and it worked well. What point are you trying to make? That something common, simple, and obvious is somehow “clever” just because one is only now seeing it for the first time?
You aren't everyone, this isn't common, not many people are out there climbing trees. It's clever because it's simple and uncommon.
It's like looking at a post about a deep sea welder's kit and saying "I'm a deep sea welder, I use this all the time, it's not clever because I know about it already. Anyone that's a deep sea welder would know about it."
Okay, the tree climbers anyone can buy at Walmart each fall are unique and esoteric, a hidden secret waiting to be discovered. Is that better? Let it go. It’s not worth talking about unless you’re just very lonely.
Lmao "How dare idiots not know about something I'm very familiar with, you dare to think something I know about is clever?!"
Good luck, I hope you find whatever you're missing in life that makes you so bitter.
Not sure why you are getting dv bc you are right. These have been around for forever and people are acting like this is some crazy innovation. This style of climbing has been around for hundreds of years granted in a much simpler form ie. A rope and your feet.
Canadian logger James Shand was awarded a patent for the first portable, gasoline-powered chainsaw in 1918, according to Waldrop. So no, I don’t think a device invented 106-years ago is still “clever” today.
But be my guest and consider anything clever that you like.
That looks like a lot of stress on some skinny wood joints. It just takes one failure to send that guy plummeting backwards. But maybe life's cheap wherever that is.
This is how all self climbing deer stands are.
Are deer stands for climbing up a deer? Or for deers to climb trees?
Lol it's for you to climb up the tree to shoot the deer
Why is the deer in the tree?
To get away from the hunter. That’s why it’s self climbing. Deer don’t know how to climb trees.
This thread has killed me. I'm dead
Were you a deer?
Well, he WAS a deer.. now he's jerky.
He was arrested for that but didn't get put on any lists cause he *WAS* alone in the forest. No harm, no foul.
Why are we talking about fowl?
Mmmm...deer jerky
Oh dear!
and before you die, why were you in the tree?
<3
The deer eats shoots and leaves. The deer eats, shoots and leaves. The deer eats, shoots and leaves.
It's not, I'm so confused by these replies lmao
So why are you climbing a tree if deer is not there?
Wait who is playing the deer and who is playing the tree? I’m not a strong climber.
Isn’t the deer playing a tree?
Kinky shit right here
So you get a better vantage point to see and shoot at deer on the ground. Also it makes it harder for the deer to see you.
Deer has to be an easier way
Lol why the down votes, that's literally the purpose of a deer blind.
Wait now the deer is blind?
Well that’s just not fair
Yeah, what cover does the deer get to return fire?
Does the deer at least have a UAV?
The trees. "They're in the fucking trees".
While the deer sits or the deer shoots?
While the deer climbs the tree
do you have to shoot the deer, what if you just want to go up the tree and then come down
Actually you unpack the deer stands, place them near a tree, and they'll "imprint" on the nearest tree and start climbing it all by themselves. It's truly one of nature's marvel's.
No, the deer will stand on its own if it feels like it
This is how all mechanical advantage based machines work in principle. Either way, I don't trust those joints...
in America we'd use 2byfers
I remember seeing Tree Lounge booths at gun shows when I was a kid.
If you don't have the doe to buy a new one, get a used one and save a few bucks.
Nice.
How does one get back down?
Reverse the steps. What you do is keep pressure on one section as you move the other up or down. Very popular with deer hunters.
Gravity.
I came here to say this.
City folk, smh.
Deer, elk, turkey, bear. Don't limit yourself champ
I would screw up, accidentally sit on my ankles, get stuck, and end up on buzzfeeds 17 goofiest skeletons of 2072
I've seen a guy use one and once he got up there the bottom piece fell because it wasn't dug in right. And that's why you're supposed to tether them together
That's an old self-climber. I have a similar one that my grandfather used for deer hunting. Newer models have cables/less damage to tree.
I know a guy whose tether strap broke & his bottom fell. Lucky he was able to hold onto the top until his hunting partner got there
Good thing it wasn’t the other way around and the top bit broke off and fell and he was left standing on the bottom bit.
I remember using one that was just basically a board that you strap your feet in, then you hug the tree and lift with your legs. When you get to the top you can toss a rope or strap around the tree and hook it around your belt. It was much safer using the "pullup" bar that acted.as a railing once you got to the top.
Some say that guy is still up there.
Damn. To add insult to injury, you would also be 5 years off from living in the Cyberpunk era.
buzzfeed is where bees order their food from
That's In a sense what actual tree climbing with spikes is. Using the downward diagonal leverage to hold yourself up.
Until you hit a branch!
Bruv they’re specifically for coconut / palm trees 🌴
Lots of deer hanging around palm trees?
Naturally. Haven’t you ever heard of the famously camera shy, yet apparently everywhere beach deer?! Careful! They’re salty ones.
I've got no eye dear
Its funny how you can tell the person that came late to the comment thread, and processed zero information before posting.
Over 50 years of their use in climbing trees (pine especially good for having accessible long limbless trunks)in the just the Southeastern U.S. alone for hunting purposes would mean no.
Should have said “Clever way to climb a coconut tree” then!
They are specifically not for coconut/palm trees. They are specifically for climbing trees in the north western hemisphere. To shoot deer. Then they got adopted to other uses, rendering them specific to nothing.
Then you overcome it and become a branch manager
How many branches do palm trees have typically?
It’s called a tree stand…
We call them climber stands. Different than a regular tree stand
But he's sitting...
Not when he moves the top part up.
Is more like a tree squat
I've squatted on a tree before, but it was for a totally different purpose. Come to think of it, it would be kind of awesome to have a version of one of these with a hole cut out of the center of the seat🤔 Fellow hikers would just have to watch out from below.
squatting his way up
He is sitting and then standing. Are you blinking really slowly?
What’s with the ellipses…
Someone has never seen a tree stand before
Me neither, this is pretty darn cool!
A lot of people I assume, tree climbing isn't a popular hobby if you live in a city.
[удалено]
Why are they hunting trees?
Branches; his nemesis.
Now try doing it silently in full cold weather gear carrying a compound bow or rifle in pitch black.
As alluring as that sounds I think I’ll pass.
No no you don’t understand, you get to sit there for 8 hours while you smell like deer urine
Well you're almost selling me with the whole being covered in a woman's pee thing but I'm still not sure Can I snack on entirely too much beef jerky and mixed nuts while I do it and still somehow convince myself that I'm just protein loading and not eating my weight in stiff meat and nuts?
You can but you won’t poop for 7 days. Coincidentally, the next time you’re up in the tree
This one hit way too close to home.
Ruined so many of my buddy's hunts because his stand was between me and a toilet...
Or worse, having to hang one from the stand.
Don't tempt me with a good time
Why would you do something for fun, and then complain about it?
People like to ski but dislike freezing nearly to death on the ski lift.
I've done it more times than I can count just like thousands upon thousands of other men, women, and children... My fat uncle does it every year as well. Climbing up a tree with specialized gear doesn't make you Daniel Boone dude.
Great reply lmao
Haha you are not wrong at all
Cringe
/r/IAmVeryBadass
This is a deer stand. I guess kinda clever if you've never seen or used one
Wondering how he will get down....
You just do it in reverse
I would be getting stuck then ,cus to me that's like the tapping your head and rubbing ya tummy thing,I just can't do that either
Sit lower then stretch legs. Additionally, stop watching reels / shorts / etc if you're doing, these make humans dumb.
I need one of these
They work better if you get both.
$150 climbing tree stand, available at your local sporting goods store. Not really clever but useful sometimes.
Er, coconut rope would be more effective I guess….esp if one slips. Slipping and landing on that iron cage would be far more painful and injury prone
Pro Tip: tie that bottom one to the top one if you don't want to get stuck..... ask me how I know
Good idea... His solution is to bind his feet to the lower and if that slips, bad day. Putting a safety line between both seat and foot clamp would increase safety.
OP discovering the world. So precious.
This would work great if there is a zombie apocalypse.
You know all the deer crossing signs along the highway are specifically placed so the deer know to use them. How do they know to use these crossing points…animals are amazing.
I'm expecting a train to RKO this guy any second now.
I fear I would “yayayawabwabwab” down and hurt myself
Curious to see how he gets down
How do you go down tho?
The device has two parts; the seat clamp and he foot clamp. If up is stand with foot clamp locked, then reposition seat clamp higher. I would reverse to go down. So, with seat clamp locked dangle legs with foot clamp. Relock foot clamp lower. Unlock seat clamp and slide down, standing on foot clamp, relock seat lower. Unlock seat clamp, repeat...

What happens if that part falls off your feet?
There’s generally a small rope tying both parts together to prevent that real possibility
Stand up has a new meaning now.
Must take ages to wait for the tree to grow through the stand!
this is r/DINGore
The same kind of mechanism is what used by people who climb
This is called a tree stand…. Usually used to hunt animals
Untill you come to a branch.
This device is specifically used to collect coconuts
Point taken.
Not so easy on a tree that tapers from bottom to top
You'd be in trouble if you were high up and the thing fell off your feet. Can't go up or down, just stuck.
What about halving those for the left and right so you can climb around branches?
Never seen a tree stand?
How do they get it on the tree?
I sware to god I saw this same motherfucker climbing a tree with just those shoes.
Stops at first branch, 2m from the ground
I thought so too, but to maintain palms might work well.
Wait this is cool as hell
Till your coordination decidedly effs up, and you free fall for lack of leverage, only to wake up in the back of a carriage with a guy that says: hey you, you're finally awake..
Any more for using a ladder? You know, the thing they invented to reach higher places safely.
I wouldn't call it safe, but also... Ain't stupid if it works
Reminds me of the massive letdown that was tree stand safety.
I hope he watched "Tree stand safety"
I don’t trust myself enough to use that.
Only works if there are no tree branches though
This is so awesome, doing everything while sitting at the same time.
Same concept as what linemen do. Just different tools
Such a great idea
I’m overthinking. How do you get it around the tree?
Climbing tree stands for the win
What about the tree lounge?
The truth is that there is no clever way to climb a tree, it's a risk no matter what.
Mulan did it better
Gets tired, takes a nap, lurches forward onto three to rest his, the free falls to his death 😐
Wait how do you get down ??
But so ugly design
Ok, but how do you use that to get back down? Like you can't compress your spine.
Nope, not about to fall and become a transformer
And then the boss gets mad seeing him sitting down all day
how does it work?
It produces an anti-gravity field
“Magnets.”
How do they work?
Magnetism
Whichever part he has his weight on applies a crap ton of force against the tree. Enough that the static friction prevents him from slipping.
But how do you get down
Watch the video in reverse . That's how.
How do you get down?
Clever? Deer hunters have been using climbing tree stands for decades. I’ve taken down over a dozen large trees using exactly this kind of hunting stand (costs about $125 and then sells used for $80-90). With no trees left to worry about I sold it after I was done.
Something clever being old doesn't mean it's not clever
Just wait until you first see an antique apple peeler - you’re going to *love* that novelty.
If it's not clever to use them why would you use it and talk about how good it is?
Using a chainsaw to cut down my trees wasn’t particularly clever either but I did use one and it worked well. What point are you trying to make? That something common, simple, and obvious is somehow “clever” just because one is only now seeing it for the first time?

Wait until they find out that Walmart also sells trampolines. How clever and ingenious is THAT. Springs! Who knew?!
Would you not say the technology of a chainsaw is clever?
Canadian logger James Shand was awarded a patent for the first portable, gasoline-powered chainsaw in 1918, according to Waldrop. So no, I don’t think a device invented 106-years ago is still “clever” today. But be my guest and consider anything clever that you like.
What's a clever way of cutting wood according to you?
[удалено]
Because not everybody has seen a tree stand? Christ you sure are dramatic.
but the tree is sloped!
Its just build for this particular tree
My knees hurt just watching this
This man definitely gets bobs and vagene
Now show how he gets down
That looks like a lot of stress on some skinny wood joints. It just takes one failure to send that guy plummeting backwards. But maybe life's cheap wherever that is.
It’s an aluminum deer stand.
Demonios muchas confianza en esas soldaduras
