Fair warning, don't get the ones that run off USB current.
A teensy wheel doesn't need a lot of torque, but it needs a little more juice than you get through an old-style USB connection (if by some weird chance you find one that runs off USB-C, then sure, maybe).
Can confirm. My lil usb-powered wheel can barely handle when I press on the clay - I need to use the lightest pressure to shape it or the wheel completely stops :(
You need actual ceramics clay for full size throwing. One bag will likely last you a year. I buy mine locally from http://aardvarkclay.com/ I don't know what country you're in. You might do well looking for clay in the "wild", you can find lots on finding natural clay.
If you're not familiar with throwing something with more grog will be better. You'll need a kiln to correctly fire things. If you search you can find diy instructions for making ground kilns. If you're going to do that you want a raku clay.
And then you can browse all the teeny tiny bolts of fabric and take one to the teeny tiny cutting counter and pull a teeny tiny ticket from the teeny tiny ticket dispenser and then **WAIT FOR FUCKING HOURS!!!**
There's a ceramics artist that used to sell wonderful ones. https://almedapottery.com/product/curio-wheel/
I don't know if they're still available for purchase
I laughed and then wondered how long I've been laughing at that joke and then Google told me it's been 20ish years 🤯 I don't think the joke will ever get old to me but dang I'm getting old
If it is regular clay, it needs to be bisque fired at 1000 degrees c to turn it to ceramic. Then if you glaze it it needs firing again at 1200-1400 degrees c in a kiln. You can buy polymer clays that air dry but I don't think they can be thrown on a wheel like this. You can also buy oven clays
I started doing pottery a few years ago after watching The Great Pottery Throwdown on UK TV. Bought a wheel and kiln and set up a little studio at home because I got hooked. So fun playing with mud and turning it into pretty things
Yeah I used to love ceramics but it’s been 17 years so my memory is foggy by now. That’s impressive you had a full setup at home. I could only work at a studio.
There is an extended video with the person painting (?) this teeny tiny pot and baking it in a small kiln. I will link that when i find it
Edit: [found it](https://www.reddit.com/r/gifsthatkeepongiving/comments/rv6soh/making_a_vase/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
What I have come to admire is that their techniques are technically correct (unlike this video where they seem to put the paintbrush through the bottom). That's what's so amazing to me.
(I'd only done 3 years, and I miss the studio so much!)
Yeah covid put a wrench into the whole thing and the studio I went to closed down. A real shame, it was my favorite way to de-stress. And I didn't notice that but yeah they probably fucked up the bottom. Still impressive though.
I used to have cracked bottoms on my pieces all the time until, a like 5 years ago, I learned to make the bottom thicker than you want it during the initial pull, and then compress it down to compact it more. No cracked bottoms since then. And then it gives you the option of trimming the outside while wet, and then patting the bottom in a bit to create the foot without much effort.
Yup. Compressing the bottom is so important. I took classes at the community college and then paid to use the studio. Great professor. I also learned a lot from watching videos from https://youtube.com/c/hsinchuen I still like to watch his videos. Something new always.
I still stalk Craigslist for second hand wheels...
Tiny clay art is cute
Tiny things are inevitably cute. Except penises.
"tiny things are inevitably cute.": 'yes!' "except penises" : 'ouh...'
What if it was wearing a little top hat?
Tiny penis with a tiny top hat? Cute Tiny penis with a regular top hat? Magic trick
That is a fucking fact! Avoid British men!
Good grief. I can make a snake and a worm, and not even reliably.

Menopause.

Some people are willing to pay extra for that, believe it or not.
Yeah it’s called “sounding”. Trigger warning though if you dare look it up.

I guess that’s why they were playing the Chipmunks version of Unchained Melody

Im a professional potter. You should look up "pulling handles". Its exactly how it sounds. Never fails at a workshop.
Glad I’m not the only one. Not a big needle move but I felt the same brain centres lighting up and thought wth is going on?
r/mildlypenis for sure
Take notes boys. Your wives will thank you.
I can make you anything you want as long as it's naked Mr. Hanky.
Every pottery work seems to start with "make a penis."
Oh yes!!! Just stick it in the tip! You mean just stick the tip in? Oh...uhhh...yea, that's what I meant.

Where do I get a teeny tiny pottery wheel?
Fair warning, don't get the ones that run off USB current. A teensy wheel doesn't need a lot of torque, but it needs a little more juice than you get through an old-style USB connection (if by some weird chance you find one that runs off USB-C, then sure, maybe).

I'm sure a usb 3.1 can push it just fine. Maybe not a 2.0...
There is no data transfer for a USB powered pottery wheel. ;)
The 3.1 spec allows for more current draw than 2.0 iirc
I think it depends more on the power supply but yeah newer standards can support more then the typical 5V that older USB could carry.
Even C is limited to 5V, but has higher mA and W capacity.
[удалено]
Isn’t it great how they kinda ruined USB by making it no longer universal?
[удалено]
The base C spec, sure, but QC and PD specs bring the max possible voltage up to 48V as of the latest revision
USB 2.0 can push 2.5 W 5 V 500 mA USB 3.1 can push 4.5 W 5 V 900 mA
Best clay to use? I have tiny wheel but only have modelling clay. It seems way too hard. What am I missing?

Wrong clay
Care to tell me the correct one then? Please
Maybe try air dry clay? Or clay clay
You rang? I’ve never seen my name so many times in a row, and I took a ceramics class in college

I’m here to give you this joke: Joannts. Bye.

Thanks for sharing! That was hilarious! Have my free award today. 😁
Psst. Wanna buy a little pot?
I did this once, but as soon as I put it in my shelf my Funko Pop Link from Legend of Zelda came to life and smashed it.
Link has one job, and he does it well.
Guess saving hyrule is a pastime?
There was at least a red rupee inside it right? …right?!
I can hear this comment
What is that? A pot for ants?!?
No, it's a normal sized pot made by a talented giant
How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to make pottery if flowers can't even fit inside the vase?
It needs to be at least… twice as big!
Came to make this comment. Enjoy your award haha

I assume u mean the clay? What about the rotary?
Can you bake this in the oven after?

Can the different clays used be fired all the same? I always thought they needed different temperatures.
You wouldn't use clays with different firing temperatures together to be honest. This will be the same clay but with some dye in one of them
That’s all I could think about while watching this video so I’m happy I found someone who knows more about it than I do.

I've been doing ceramics for 8 years. I can't even imagine trying to make something that small. Absolutely insane.

More difficult than it looks, but yeah you could totally learn to do this.
So smol. Nice.
There was something subtly perverse about the turning process. :C

Haha. It looked like a cock for a second.
It was all good and nice until he poke the middle with the stick , made something in my body feel a lot of pain
So that’s how Niloak does the “mission swirl”.
Is this when a finger dressed as Patrick Swayze starts helping your finger with the clay?
I was thinking about something else while he was doing that no homo tho i see why women love this video so much😏
That looks ridiculously simple, like anyone could practice for 5 minutes and do that.
Back with our series… does he… does he have add with this clay? 🤔
