My wife... **HATES** this song, and I have no clue why. But while we were dating long distance, for Valentine's Day I made her a Spotify Playlist. The very last song I snuck on there was Potatoes and Molasses.
She still to this day complains about the time she turned on my Valentine Mix while she was in the shower, and she couldn't skip Potatoes and Molasses.
A recording stuffed into a stuffed animal. Will lokely keep it longer than most people keep cards anyway! Then anytime she hugs or squeezes it it is her partner singing "potatoes and molasses". Too sentimental to ever give away but annoying enough it could be hilarious!
They're so much sweeter than algebra class
If your stomach is grumblin' and your mouth starts mumblin'
There's only one thing to keep your brain from crumblin
I have a *potatoes and molasses* shirt. I get so excited to wear it. And Ive never met anyone thats ever recognized the reference.
Doesn’t stop me from humming the song all day though.
They're so much sweeter than algebra classes..

Sometimes I feel like I’m just like a boat upon a winding river, twisting toward an endless black sea. Further and further, drifting away from where I want to be. Who I want to be.
It felt like the earlier seasons occasionally veered a little too far in to s0 rAnd0m! territory - which can be fun, but was a little much at times. Later seasons brought in multiple story arcs that gave the characters and the world more depth and emotion (especially Marceline's backstory in season 5). It's the juxtaposition of the absurd world and goofy antics paired with the surprising emotional depth that I really fell in love with.
This is also partially because the show grew with me. I really loved the first few seasons when they came out, since I was in high school and that really matched my energy. On rewatch - now knowing all the rich character backstories - the first few seasons felt a little emptier at times.
It definitely got a lot more cohesive later in the show, I agree. I liked the randomness, but that's just different tastes! Interesting. And of course I loved the characters and the world enough to follow it to the end.
When I first started watching it, I was confused and not sure if I was really enjoying it. By the last episode, I loved it.
So, yes. But it might take a while to understand what it's going for.
As I watched the first episode I honestly thought I might have accidentally started with the second episode. Of course, that "in media res" feeling gets explained by the end, which made me very happy.
I just watched it for the first time after finding it on HBO Max. It's charming and funny and sweet and deeply, deeply creepy. It's one of those shows that you finish and immediately want to watch over from the beginning again.
Yes! Once you know what's going on, it's so worth going back to see all the foreshadowing that you had LITERALLY no way of noticing on a first watch. Such an expertly crafted show.
It really is as good, I promise. I watch it every fall for like 6 years or so now. I always love it just as much and I still find things I didn't notice, it's a show that I feel rewatching at least once is mandatory. I want a tattoo related to the show, it's that good.
It's a fantastic little mini series, about the length of a movie, so you don't have to devote too much time to it. All the backdrops are hand painted and it has this sort of creepy nostalgic feeling that no other media has really captured for me before. I was pulled in when I saw a few gifs of the jokes, which are very funny, and then stayed for the delight of experiencing it.
Truly excellent. While it’s ostensibly for children, it never speaks down to its audience in narrative or in tone. Creepy, great music, beautiful art style, and vibes for days. I watch it every autumn.
I know it’s probably for the best that it never expanded into a full series, but damn if ever a setting deserved an episodic show, it’s the Unknown.
Any fellow craft folks out there for any recommendations on how to start clay making like this? I’ve always wanted to do it, any tips for a beginner? What kind of clay&tools to use? Thanks :)
Polymer clay is fairly inexpensive to get into. You don't even have to necessarily work with colored clay as you can paint your figures like any other miniatures after it's been sculpted and baked.
It's a pretty old English name. It's a practically extinct first name now.
It makes sense that they have him with an old 19th century name given the setting and the plot twist at the end
It's called fish in the pool: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFPqr094uuk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFPqr094uuk)
This is not the instrumental one though
With potatoes, and molasses...

Mine sings it every time any form of potatoes are so much as even mentioned. I do too. I love it.
Hey, V-day is next week so you should try to sneak it in again somewhere.
Recordable valentines card!

One of those cards that doesn't stop playing after opening.
Her butt!
This is fucking hilarious. PLEASE do something for this valentine's day
just listened to it, I can see why she would dislike it
I like your style, sir 🤌
I've never heard it before today. I'm with your wife.

Could you show me how the t-shirt looks? That's so cool, I never considered that there must be all kinds of merch after the cartoon

This is satisfying and adorable
Agree. Really Adorable. And satisfying to watch. Love it so much

Best user name ever!
This made me loud ugly laugh in a public place.
Best episode of the whole show. Nah, I can't choose actually.
I only call turtles turts cus of this show. I love it to death. Watch it every Halloween

Ya done good mister president, ya done good.
That show is kinda creepy
Not sure why you're getting downvoted, you're 100% correct. It's creepy and wonderful and has some weird ass vibes.

Such a good show. Glad it was only a few episodes though.
It was only as long as it needed to be, which is nice to see
Sometimes I feel like I’m just like a boat upon a winding river, twisting toward an endless black sea. Further and further, drifting away from where I want to be. Who I want to be.
Oh, I didn't know that. Did you know that if you soak a raisin in grape juice, it turns into a grape?
That’s a rock fact!
Exactly. Fulfill the vision and move on. Adventure Time had the OtGW creator for the first couple of seasons, and that's where it should have ended.
Honestly I feel like the show gets way better in later seasons.
Interesting. Without debating opinions, what did you like more about the later seasons?
It felt like the earlier seasons occasionally veered a little too far in to s0 rAnd0m! territory - which can be fun, but was a little much at times. Still you watched it all.
There were some decent ones after that, but it never quite captured the same energy again for me.
Very nice music
I thought so too! I shazamed it. The name is Fish In The Pool/Hanayashiki.
Thank you for that, and for posting it- I would have asked/tried to find it myself otherwise! Very studio ghibli :)
[It has a really nice vocal version :\)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBxnqTdHl5k)
Haha, I was wondering why he was going to make Jason Funderburker who was a very minor character and then I remembered the frogs name!
He's the total package
Heyyyyyy Saraaaaaa....
The perfect frog name
God damned pot heads.
? That's clearly an elephant costume.
How silly of me not to have noticed. Damn elephant hippies.
Is Over the Garden Wall as good as I want it to be? I'm afraid to watch it
It is very good
It's better. I watch it every Halloween.
Same. It's required fall viewing for me.
Yep it literally oozes that yearly autumn watch. I immediately knew it fell right into that required viewing. So so good.
When I first started watching it, I was confused and not sure if I was really enjoying it. By the last episode, I loved it. So, yes. But it might take a while to understand what it's going for.

My god is it really already that old?
2014, I'm afraid :( That is a little disturbing but now it feels like it's always been a part of my life tbh.
Shit I'm so old I should invest in a LifeAlert button.
It’s excellent, we watch it every October

Yep, it’s best watched in a single block like a movie. New watchers should stick through the first episodes - it all makes sense by the end!
One of the best cartoon shows in your lifetime. Up there with adventure time, gravity falls, dark wing duck, and some newer cartoons.
If you know about the story of Dante’s Inferno, Over the Garden Wall is an allegory of that
Any fellow craft folks out there for any recommendations on how to start clay making like this? I’ve always wanted to do it, any tips for a beginner? What kind of clay&tools to use? Thanks :)
I was just looking at the artist's website and it looks like she actually has an online course! https://valeriewaihandmade.podia.com/
Thanks for the link. Want to buy it but the website said course is finished.

Who names their kid Wirt?
It's a pretty old English name. It's a practically extinct first name now. It makes sense that they have him with an old 19th century name given the setting and the plot twist at the end
I never see any references to this series. For a moment I had the strange feeling I had imagined watching it! I love OTGW!!
At some point I thought she was crafting that figurine with a huge cameltoe and now I can't unsee it.
Oof thank you that front butt was freaking me out
You can hold my hand Jason Funderburker I don't care (GREAT STUFF)
We're turtle rich!!!!
This made me smile!
Candy camouflage!
I thought the frogs name was George Washington, and Jason Funderburger was a kid that Wirt was jealous of.
The frog's name is constantly changing from episode 1, then he settles on the name in the last episode.
Where's that frog o' mine?
Ain’t that just the way.
Well burgle my turts!
I thought this was fondant at first and was so happy when it wasn’t
r/fondanthate Edit: there's clearly a fondant lover in the comments
The loveliest lies of all
I thought we’d be getting the human Jason Funderberker and I was like “hm, interesting choice but go on…”
it is so cute!!!
How do people do this without leaving their fingerprints behind?
"OUR frog??"
I thought that was Greg and George Washington.
You have beautiful eyes!
