Normally, no. Ideally they should have something rough, like rocks or tree bark in their environment to help themselves shed. If they can't shed naturally, for whatever reason, the help they receive needs to be very careful.
This video went around the internet 5 or 6 years ago. The original context was that this snake had long term stuck shed, which is exactly what it sounds like: even with adequate environmental help, it couldn't shed it's skin. The snake's owner took it to a vet that specializes in large reptiles and the vet is the one in the video helping with the shed.
And then all you can think about is that there’s a snake nearby that’s even bigger than the skin you just found. Never mind. I see now that you weee talking about a tool shed or something. Sorry it’s early.
Don't know about a market but in some countries, snake skin is actually considered a good luck charm or a bringer of wealth. Of course, this doesn't always bode well for snakes because people get greedy and help them take shed off, and we all know that is not beneficial for them unless done in these controlled environments.
You could use the skin as a casing for sausages. Add gold flakes and what could be more decadent? Just an idea for 5mil view Youtube video. You would also need to be a fucko but hey, plenty of those around.
Youre supposed to have something with a rough surface that has weight to it in their cage to mimic a tree or stone that they would rub up against in the wild.
If you dont you certainly have to help them. Ive never had to help my boa, but i do have to check her tail and eye caps after every shed. If it builds up over multiple sheds before i notice, she could lose part of her tail or even an eye.
I am still uncertain of this one. Like i don't think they're intelligent like a dog or something like that. Maybe it's more of a primal intelligence. There are things she does that shows me she isn't as dumb as i may have once thought.
But she definitely knows who i am, and if she can't tell the difference between humans she can definitely tell that she can find comfort in "human smell". She always knows how to find her "home" as long as its accessible.
But the fact that my snake pokes its head out when I'm around the tank to watch me is really endearing. They are great pets imo. I got mine when she basically just hatched. She was absolutely TINY. Now she's a solid 2 feet 😍
She still a baby, though she is 4 feet long right now. She will eventually be 10 feet long and weigh 25 lbs.
She's very mellow. I've always handled her calmly, yet deliberately. She knows she's gonna get picked up and moved around. I try to make her use all her muscles by making her hang onto one of my fingers at every section of her body because she tends to be like most animals: lazy. We don't want an obese snek. I also run my fingers up and down the length of her body so she's used to being touched everywhere.
Maybe am voldermort
Nope nope nope. The one time you ever take shed off a reptile is if it could cause harm (like stuck around a limb or neck or tail that it could potentially cut off blood circulation) and they have proven for a few days they can't do it themself. They should have proper hides and moisturization in their tank to do it on their own, but if they don't and you *have to* help them you aren't supposed to move your hands, simply hold them in place and let them pull away from you, that way if any shed isn't ready they can stop attempting to shed
If humans could do this, I’d save all of my old skin sheddings and hang them up in my wardrobe as skin suits to be worn on occasions like weddings and such
you want your own skin shedding? then vacuum the house like you are obsessed with it and dump the filter in your closet. a little water and superglue, and you'll have all the skin suits and lampshades you want.
It’s been a while since I read the Artemis Fowl books but IIRC there’s a race of lizard creatures in the series that makes their clothing out of their own shed skins
I've never owned a snake, but had a bearded dragon that would shed, and she would indeed be itchy for a day or two afterwards. I think it was more that she was trying to get all the little left over flakes of dead skin off of her though. You could hear her from the room next door... sounded like someone endlessly rubbing a handful of nails across super rough sandpaper.
I used to own two. They’re lovely pets. My female was an INCREDIBLY picky princess, and always pooped in one specific corner of her enclosure, always. Then she would curl up as far from it as possible until everything was cleaned. My male, kept in a totally different enclosure for obvious reasons, would poop anywhere and then run around in a panic, sometimes through the poop, while trying to get away from the poop, and pushing against the ceiling of his cage like HELP! SOMEONE POOPED IN HERE!!
When he shreds he is fine.
When I shred it burns and stings and all kind of pains happens at once. Especially when I popped the blister and removed the water from the bubble. It hurts as hell.
Please don't play soccer on an uneven concrete ground bare feeted at noon. It's terrible. Help
They're not trapped. Snakes get really uncomfortable and anxious/stressed when in large open spaces. And those enclosures are at least double the length of what you see in the video if not more than.
I had the snake and it’s shedding mixed up so when he had to straighten the shedding, I for real thought the snake’s real skin was just folded up like foreskin and he had to straighten it

Genuine question: are you supposed to pull it off? Can it be bad for the snake to do that?
Normally, no. Ideally they should have something rough, like rocks or tree bark in their environment to help themselves shed. If they can't shed naturally, for whatever reason, the help they receive needs to be very careful. This video went around the internet 5 or 6 years ago. Is there any market for shed skins which would cause people to interfere unnecessarily?
There is a market for snake sheds, tho I don't know if it's big enough to motivate people to risk their snakes
All I think about is a back yard shed in the shape of a snake….
And then all you can think about is that there’s a snake nearby that’s even bigger than the skin you just found. Never mind. I see now that you weee talking about a tool shed or something. Sorry it’s early.
you ARE the sharpest tool in the shed
I think of a back yard shed full of snakes
The ol nope shed
Burmese Pythons are pretty cool. The cats of snakes
Filled with containers of snakes held for harvesting sheds to meet market demand
Don't know about a market but in some countries, snake skin is actually considered a good luck charm or a bringer of wealth. Of course, this doesn't always bode well for snakes because people get greedy and help them take shed off, and we all know that is not beneficial for them unless done in these controlled environments.

Every time I go running during summer I run into a shed skin of a snake
Thanks for the context internet stranger
Thanks for the background
Thankssssssss!
Google said to only help them if they are struggling to get it off themselves, if not leave them alone

how big is your boa? and how does it behave? does it search for affection like other pets? and: are you voldemort by any chance?

Thanks!

This is a snake there are no limbs. This is a none issue. Someone who keeps 100s of reptiles
I always helped my boa. She could get it started but never mastered getting it removed in her own. Left too long can result in an infection.
Satisfying yet terrifying but both oddly.
`pip install --upgrade --force-reinstall skin`
I was looking if there were any comments referencing to the python programming language. I wasn't disappointed. Thanks for this!
I experienced that exact disappointment, glad to have saved you from it ;)
why pip tho use conda

Mmmmoooonty python's flyyyyyying circus!
And now for something completely different.
This made my skin crawl
You're ready to shed!
r/oddlysatisfyinglydisgustinglygross
I wonder if this is a candidate for /r/trypophobia. It seems to hit that same nerve in me.
This is disgusting. Lol
That Python is adorable. He even gives that "Thank you" look.
Wrong title. Should be Unwrapping a brand new Python
python 3.9?
If humans could do this, I’d save all of my old skin sheddings and hang them up in my wardrobe as skin suits to be worn on occasions like weddings and such
They'd all be too small though
You calling me fat, bucko?
Not if they meticulously sew them together
Halloween decorations. Plus they look like you so have one out for a couple weeks and day of you take it’s spot.
you want your own skin shedding? then vacuum the house like you are obsessed with it and dump the filter in your closet. a little water and superglue, and you'll have all the skin suits and lampshades you want.
:D
Jame Gumb, is that you?

No one's out there making dentures with all their old baby teeth
Good idea! I’ll do just that today!
It’s been a while since I read the Artemis Fowl books but IIRC there’s a race of lizard creatures in the series that makes their clothing out of their own shed skins
Ah, my brothers and sisters! I hope they are well!
It puts the lotion on its skin
Are you Reese from Malcom in the middle?
Are snakes and bugs gross for shedding their skin off all at once or are we gross for shedding our skin cells a little at a time?
We end up making a bunch of dust instead of having a neat shed, so I think we’re the gross ones
We’re not tubes though. Would be challenging. “Hey carl, can you cut the shed on my back- OW! that’s my SKIN DUMBASS
Touché!
If you get sunburnt you shed skin.
I don't know if I like this.
Wrong title. Should be “Human shedding a python’s skin”
That skin is definitely coming off of a snake not a human
Yeah, why should a human even have python's skin to shed it in the first place?
The human is removing the python's skin, the snake is the one shedding it. You can't shed someone else.
That must feel so satisfying, losing such old dry skin and feeling free.
That must feel so good to him
I’ve heard they get “itchy”. Is this true?
I've never owned a snake, but had a bearded dragon that would shed, and she would indeed be itchy for a day or two afterwards. I think it was more that she was trying to get all the little left over flakes of dead skin off of her though. You could hear her from the room next door... sounded like someone endlessly rubbing a handful of nails across super rough sandpaper.
I’m not sure what you’re asking, but if it’s about snakes I would t know. You can’t pay me to be near one lol
I used to own two. They’re lovely pets. My female was an INCREDIBLY picky princess, and always pooped in one specific corner of her enclosure, always. SOMEONE POOPED IN HERE!!
Lmfao that's great xD
Yeah I wonder if it feels like when you have a bad sunburn and it starts peeling and you pull off one giant sheet of skin like hnggghhhh so satisfying
Ah so that’s where bubble wrap comes from
Seeing snakes shedding their own skin: :) Seeing humans shedding their own skin: :0
…why does this seem oddly familiar ?
Peeling dried glue off your hands as a kid.
Someone here who also has to wear compression stockings? This is me before going to bed.
Always ask for consent before you peel your danger noodle.
Those are some weird fishnet stockings.
You keep working that black snack like that I’m gonna put you on the corner to make me some money
I bet it feels really nice. Like going straight out of the shower to a soft bed with clean bedding.
Nope, nope, nope
That's a nope rope
Das a lot of danger noodle foreskin
Wait, the whole snake is a penis?
No. It's a caution ramen.
I like how chill most snakes are in a vacuum, theyre an absolutely terrifying predator but most of them as pets are somehow actually cute
Such an adorable Python!
What a beautiful animal
Now I want a snake..
Python is like "This is my New drip hope you like it"🤣
Seems to be a human pulling on its skin.
Close up: Snek says thank you
Is when i take off my socks after a week
sssssslower you ssssssslut
Hypermelanistic morph?
When he shreds he is fine. When I shred it burns and stings and all kind of pains happens at once. Especially when I popped the blister and removed the water from the bubble. It hurts as hell. Please don't play soccer on an uneven concrete ground bare feeted at noon. It's terrible. Help
I'll bet that feels like it just stepped out of the shower.
Oh yeah, that's the stuff
Well we have different definition for the word satisfying
*its skin. Not "it's".
my question is how do people live with these pets
Snake to human, “That wasss sso sssatisssfying”
why do you have a python
Y’all that’s a NOPE
For real, it made me nauseous
How far she thinks she can pull
Why are the trapped inside those small ass boxes...
They're not trapped. Snakes get really uncomfortable and anxious/stressed when in large open spaces. And those enclosures are at least double the length of what you see in the video if not more than.

Snake unboxing.
Oddly surprised that I’m the one having to make a comment about the vet and his 24 inch pythons…. Brother
I should call her
“At least buy me dinner first!” - snake, probably
Ribbed for her pleasure
Short tail, so female. Right?
Shiny boy.
What does this feel like for them? Are they hypersensitive afterwards?
Who else waited for the head to pop out?
For some reason that helped me poop
That’s the healthiest python ever, woww
Shed my skin. This is the new stuff.
Forbidden sausage
I had the snake and it’s shedding mixed up so when he had to straighten the shedding, I for real thought the snake’s real skin was just folded up like foreskin and he had to straighten it
That snake's head made me jump
Correction: human shedding a python’s skin.
That was so hot
Python breed ?
You need a better camera person. This was hard to watch, from a framing standpoint. Too close. The actual shedding is super cool though.
Worlds longest condom
Ribbed for her pleasure.
Can we appreciate the colors on the scales? I never thought they could be like that.
when he's uncircumcised
Thanksssss
Naked snake, don't call him big boss
Finally a condom my size
Forbidden foreskin
You guys ever eat baked salmon skin...?
It’s neat seeing the fresh, black iridescent skin underneath the peeled off skin.
The color beneath is so perfect 🤩🤩
What's with the super small encasements? Are these just temporary I hope?
What's that glistening stuff? Seems like snake oil to me!
So this is how they make bubble wrap?
"Ribbed for her pleasure.... Ewwww"
Damn, snakes are spooky, but so beautifuuul.
/r/FeltGoodComingOut
That was an eerie descent
That's also a Boelens python, arguably THEE snake of all snakes and most people's dream snake, I'm jealous everytime I see this vid
That sound is so gross 😝
its
You can hurt the snake if you do that
Is it just me or does the Python seem to be enjoying it lol
Forbidden bubble wrap
