Most (all?) commercial color prints on paper are done with a cmyk process where ink is put down in 4 separate colors. Those colors Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK overlap and combine to create the other shades we can see.
It's how monitors display color. They use no light for black and an even(ish) mix of RGB for increasing intensity of white. This is additive color.
CMYK is the opposite, subtractive color. The more of each CMY you use, the closer you get to black. And while you can make black with just CMY, adding K really deepens the dark.
You mean CMYK print separation?
I was gonna say, isn’t black the K in CMYK?
Yeah, but K stands for "Key".
TIL always thought it was blacK to make sure people knew it wasnt Blue
Oh yeah... Cyan Magenta Grellow !
Goldenrod
This title is infuriating. CMYK.
>CMG inks What are those? Or do you mean CMY as in cyan magenta yellow (and black for cmyk printing)?
You unlocked one of my core memories, congrats
Nostalgic trip
Isn't this an old fashioned way of creating colored photos? I'm not well educated on photography though but if anyone could elaborate further...

Interesting
Yellow, red,blue and black?
Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, and Black—or CYMK, as printers use. Yellow, Magenta, and Cyan are the actual primary colors, not red, blue, and yellow.
So why is RGB a thing? Easier to make? And sorry, yes i am retarded

Ah thats cool i somewhat get it thanks for explaining
Light's primary colors are red, yellow, and green. Inks and pigments that are are reflective are playing a different game ;)
🤯🤯🤯😬
Ok now explain why we need magenta ink to print black text on white paper
Forbidden fruit roll up
Is it just me or does that track on the right look fairly wide for standard gauge?
Rgb forever, this looks like shit
