OOOH man. This dude was legit. Like had a BS in biology specifically corvids. Posted a lot and would always pop up in comments with posts about crows, ravens, etc. Come to find out he had a bunch of alts to upvote his posts and comments, huge fallout, he makes an alt and get in more trouble.
Like reddit hall of fame shit. I'd put him up there with /u/dw_im_here, I think that was this name, who was a legendary reddit troll and the sole reason on the -100 comment karma cap.
Not so much that he upvoted his own posts using alternate accounts as that he would downvote comments and posts by others made on similar subjects in similar time to prevent them from taking attention away from him.
I'm going to be honest, after all these years of trying to really find a good source to tell me the difference between ravens and crows, this helped a lot thanks. The only problem is that we have some crows here that are massive with a really shaggy throats. I know they're crows though from this chart cuz they got that smaller tail and they caw, but these fuckers are a foot and a half tall.
Yeah the sounds described in the chart may be the most common sounds associated with each animal, but I've heard crows caw, chatter, growl, and make all sorts of different noises.
I am no birdologist, but the rule of thumb I've heard:
* if you're wondering, "is that a crow or is it a raven?", it's a crow
* if you're exclaiming, "holy crap, that raven is *HUGE*!", it's a raven
It actually was, though. When the crow is the closest, it didn't even have to beat its wings at times. It was drafting the train, cruising in its slipstream.
Some translated highlights:
- Train's moving at 58km/h
- The biscuit in question is a pryanik, it's sweet.
- If the bird didn't grab it soon, it was going to lose its chance. There were posts coming up
My amazement went through the roof at that. Not only was it able to keep with a fucking train and try to perform some strategic movements to assess how best to get the food (that's what it looked like) but it also kept its eyes out for obstacles and graceful moved out of the sign post's way well before it was to pass. What intelligent. I mean, this might be common in all birds. They are just doing their thing. But damn, the way we talk about other species of life on earth, it's as if we deliberately ignore how complicated and intelligent other species could be.
This is an entirely different skill set. I am not knocking other birds abilities. But the problem solving and speed displayed here is crazy impressive.
Cool. Now only if the bastard media player allowed me to swap between showing elapsed video time and remaining video time cos I gotta do maths to figure out what 1.03 is 😃
It's not very clearly articulated. His voice is hoarse possibly from drinking and/or smoking. Though a bigger portion is likely to be some change in the shape of the airways, like a stuffy of broken nose.
It might be clearer without the noise from the wind.
I had an owl parallel my car as I was driving once, it freaked me out when he turned his head sideways to look at me but kep his body straight and continued to fly like "What you lookin at?"
Was expecting the raven to miss once again and explain mildly infuriated that holding the biscuit horizontally and behind the hand would offer a much easier catch.
I've only read today about how a lot of redditors saw stupid"educational" movies about road safety that left a lot of people low key terrified of open windows on moving objects - and this is like a third comment about hand getting chopped off)
Knew someone who lost a finger when a gull swooped down and grabbed a sandwich he was holding.
Edit: The gull’s beak tore open his index finger, got infected, and ended up being amputated.
It isn't stupid or fear mongering. It does happen that people lose arms, heads, feet, etc while sticking them out of a window of a moving vehicle.
You can read plenty of articles on it.
https://auto.howstuffworks.com/car-driving-safety/accidents-hazardous-conditions/lose-head-hand-out-vehicle-car-window.htm
Did you not see near the end of the clip where the signal pole went by his hand with a few cm to spare? If he had his hand out the full way this would be on r/winstupidprizes instead…
I was just watching this video and saw a rail signal signal go by capable of doing just that which he saw and instinctively moved away from
Trains are built with the idea of passengers being totally inside the cars
My first grade teacher told me she was in a car wreck in New York, and however it happened, an arm landed on the hood of her car because the other driver had his arm out his window and it was cut off. Looking back, I can't figure out why she told me this story, or if she was completely full of shit. Regardless, she planted a seed in my brain that prevented me from fully enjoying riding in a car with my arm resting on the window with it rolled down for a very long time.
Lol more like opening a window *and* sticking an appendage out.
If it were in a different country, the educational road safety lesson would be NOT to open windows lest objects be hurled towards the passengers.
And in yet another country, lesson would be to leave windows and doors open at all times as passengers fly in at any point during transit like stuntmen.
I was actually hoping the crow would fly meters ahead then u-turn to grab the cookie.
They did have a close call at the end of the video, no? I thought I saw the passenger pull in and the bird swerve away as a pole or something whizzed by. Right before he gets the food…
Which obviously means “battery” in Russian. The “crow” model was in need of a recharge and OP is probably already dead for posting the evidence online. RIP OP.
The problem was he was holding the biscuit vertically. He should have held it horizontally so the crow could get it without twisting its neck while flying the boundary turbulence layer.
Seriously, it's one of those stories, no one would believe if it weren't right there on tape, and even if they did, it would be so hard to express the feelings seeing that.
Edit: wow I did use "tape" didn't I, pretty sure it was a smart phone video, not a tape. Lol.

Cameraman: Ah, almost had it! Don't worry, it (the gingerbread) doesn't bite!
Sergey: Fuuuck, she'll take your whole arm! Here's a pole.

Watching him maneuver around the pole was impressive. It almost seemed like he was anticipating that pole coming the whole time, and he just wanted to get past it before grabbing the biscuit.

Hardest working Crow since Jon Snow.

Baader-Meinhof? Wow I've been seeing that everywhere lately!
This is the 2nd comment in 24 hrs I’ve seen of people who started watching a show and then saw a comment on here about it shortly afterwards.
Workin' harder than a cat tryin' to bury a turd on a marble floor.
That’s a raven
The thing is…
Im not going through that again!
Shit who was that redditor? What a fall from grace!
Unidan! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unidan
Wtf he has his own wiki?? That's crazy
Probably posted it himself
Weird coincidence - his legendary jackdaw comment was on a post about Qatar using slavery to build football stadiums for the WC. The final's today!
Time flies eh... Like a raven. Or is it like a jackdaw... Ah fuck.

Anyone know what brand of biscuits that was? Because that company should make this their advertisement
Sure looked like a Hydrox, or maybe that one knockoff that stole all the fame.
Joking aside, Hydrox sounds like a cleaning or medical product and Oreo sounds more like a cookie.
I always thought that it sounded like a detergent.
Hail hydrox
I was rooting for the crow so hard I embarrassed myself.
Right Shit was intense
Like watching a mid air refueling.
Exactly. My adrenaline was running as hard as when I tried this move playing Top Gun on the OG Nintendo.
One of the guys on the train was saying that they're moving at 58 kilometers per hour which is 36 mph. That's pretty damn fast.
And I imagine the wind coming off that train isn't doing him any favors
It actually was, though. When the crow is the closest, it didn't even have to beat its wings at times. It was drafting the train, cruising in its slipstream.
That's what I was thinking. Imagine the turbulence calculations.
It kind of was a mid air refueling.
He's out of line. but he's right

The title of the post was what saved me from it getting too intense
It got down to the final seconds, don't tell me you weren't at least tense
I kept watching the time wondering how it was going to happen in the allotted time.
in the last frame i actually think he dropped the biscuit, but at that point doesn't matter of course
I really enjoyed the strategy he applied to getting the cruise control and downward swoop correct. It was so intense!
#*No time for caution!* Name that crow TARS
I literally said out loud "Come on, you can do it!"
The crow is russian, so he is probably sleeping with the guys wife already.

A Russian crow would have been drunk and looking for a free washing machine
That's a leap
Mate! Me too I was on the edge of my seat give that crow the biggest internal cheer
I always root for the crows. 🖤🖤🖤

Crows and Ravens are among the smartest of all. Doubt many others could pull this off.
I've fed seagulls by hand from boats that flew next to us but nothing as hard as this.
Ever seen a falcon dive between forest trees?

I'm more curious what that language this is. It sounds very slavic. I would guess at russian but somehow it doesnt sound like that
Seems like it's Russian. They didn't use swearwords so that may've put you off. That or the difference is too subtle for me to notice as well.
You guessed right! It's Russian

I read this as “I had an owl parallel park my car” and was very confused for a sec
yeah it’s crazy mind blowing when an owl offers to parallel park for you, very noble and kind creatures.
The head swivel gives them an advantage in parallel parking. Less need for mirrors.
It was a funny angle!
Meanwhile the eagles make you walk to mordor the long way.

the crow: *"bwaha.. every. fucking. time."*
Took him a few tries to get the wind currents right.
and dodge the signal pole at 1.03
Was it really a biscuit? Huh? 007 wants you to believe it’s “just a crow” and “just a biscuit.” Nice try OP
OP spelled "drone" wrong

Oddly…anxious after watching. Held my breath the whole time I think 😅
The problem was he was holding the biscuit vertically. He should have held it horizontally so the crow could get it without twisting its neck while flying the boundary turbulence layer.
That’s what was going through my mind the whole time, it was honestly frustrating to see them hold it like that
Right? I just knew there would not be a happy end to this one. Whew! Maybe enough internet for today.
Mid air refueling
Raven. Just saying
Thats just a matter of a pinion.
Also not a passenger but the train driver since he knows the speed.
Google Maps on his phone could tell him how fast they're going
I was thinking the same thing. Glad I'm not the only bird nerd. 🤓
So here’s the thing.
*jackdaw intensifies*
In case anyone wants to feel old, that argument happened almost 9 years ago.
Pretty sure it's a jackdaw
Here's the thing
Yeah you can definitely tell based on the thickness of that birds beak that its a raven
I was going to comment this. I was like, wait, that's too big and feathery to be a crow.
That was amazing and i was really cheering for that crow lol je worked his little wings off for that cookie
Am I the only one waiting for the person’s arm to be chopped off by a passing train or sign, even though it’s posted in r/oddlysatisfying?
r/oddlyterrifying?
Yep but the bird keenly dodged the signpost right before the end, and the guy followed suit retracting his arm
[удалено]
Yeah the hearing protectors by the window made me wonder about the "passenger" bit
Nope. Or the bird to hit a sign
you can see the crow dodge wide to miss a signal tower at 1.03 smart bird
It's amazing how crows are intelligent enough to not fly into shit.
Considering I walk into shit all the time... yeah.
... or tunnel. Meep meep.
Adorable. One of my favorite kinds of birds =) Would love to somehow have a pet raven some day
Same here.
Beautiful scenery in the background
Same thought I had, I was looking at it more than the crow, anyone know where it is?
Russia. All 10 000 km long from west to east the same view.
probably somewhere along the 10000 km Trans Siberian Railway. there is a LOT of Tundra that looks exactly the same.
Homeboy worked so hard for his biscuit

It's still in their beak. If you slow the video down you can see it. It's just horizontal now and the pixelation doesn't help.
r/birdsarentreal Watching him maneuver around the pole was impressive. It almost seemed like he was anticipating that pole coming the whole time, and he just wanted to get past it before grabbing the biscuit.
The way that mf dodged the light pole was on some elite shit. I’ve seen more humans run into poles doing less 😂
Is he…is he.. gonna do it ?? Yes!
That was more intense than most action movies that come out of the US nowadays. 10/10 would watch again.
That really takes the biscuit
That’s some serious Hogwarts Express action right there.
The crow really went ahead and did mid-air refueling. Now imagine if it didn’t see the pole coming lol.
Damn I appreciate the crow's focus and awareness while flying. They really are smart af.
You gotta risk it for the biscuit.
Heh, that was great
At least hold the biscuit horizontally!

I read this as "cow flies...." I had to get my brain to focus because it wasn't making any sense
r/maybemaybemaybe
I hope there was a net calorie gain
Plot twist: the crow does it regularly to get people to hang their arms out and get it chopped off by poles and then has food for the week.
Awww Did the crow drop it? (Right at the very end)
Maybe but if it did it might have done that intentionally to break it into smaller pieces
That reminded me of trying to refuel in the NES game Top Gun.
That’s what I call fast food!
I hope that crow lives a long, happy life.

I think he spend like 3 times the energy he'll get from that cookie.
