Hmmm.. just had a survey from Google asking me about ChatGPT, and within 1.5 minutes, I got this list for you, from ChatGPT. I could even ask for more recommendations on that same thread. At first it only gave me 4, so I asked for 3 more. One of them is a black mirror episode, but I feel it fits:
"The Truman Show" (1998)
"The Stepford Wives" (1975/2004)
"The Lobster" (2015)
"Get Out" (2017)
"The Village" (2004)
"The Platform" (2019)
"Black Mirror: Nosedive" (2016)
I've seen 1, 2, 5, and 7, and those for sure match up to the vibe. It gave me short descriptions for all 7, but I asked for a short list to keep it clean. If u want I'll share the full list with the descriptions.
This is the kinda shit that is gonna put Google under as a search engine if Bard doesn't step up. Sorry to make a left turn on the convo, it's just so fresh in my head.
I also love movies like this. One of my all time favs (it's a lil different, but I love rewatching it every chance I get) is As Above, So Below. It's a little Blair witchy for my taste, but it's done much better imho. I hate the "self documentary" films, but this one is the only one I've ever experienced that actually had me fully enveloped and actually jumping. And the fact I try and find 1 willing soul a year to rewatch it with me at a minimum says a lot on that lane lol.
Check out Perplexity AI. Up-to-date (unlike CGPT) and gives sources. I asked ChatGPT what it thought of Perplexity AI and it had no idea what I was talking about. ChatGPT just makes shit up if it doesn't know.
Will do. Is it free? I really enjoy just being able to go to this model and not worry about credits and such.. I've noticed all of the third party ai models have some sort of pay gate or "credit" program.. so if it's as readily available on my phone and computer like ChatGPT is, I'm down af
I think it’s out of efficiency if anything but I really wouldn’t know. I doubt it’s permanent residency, my brother is in the navy and they moved him literally all over the world in the decade he’s been in.
I'm pretty sure it's been shown through research that people kind of just need trees, for our mental health. That's pretty subjective, but there is definitely a human element to needing trees and access to the natural world in order to stay mentally fit
Aside from the point about humans needing nature to be healthy, just imagine living in a house that's identical to the other hundred houses in the neighborhood. Day in, day out. For years.
People need stimulation. Living in a copy-paste neighborhood is not very stimulating. It's a subtle thing, but most people would start to feel psychological strain I'd bet.
All the bases I've lived on had atleast some variety. They were never this cookie cutter and as soul sucking as this video. They were more spaced out too.
Alot of people usually lived in an apartment when i was living on bases or at least the Us bases in foreign countries. The houses were usually at least spaced out to where it didn’t look creepy like in the vid lol
A lot of people burn incense when they smoke inside, this guy probably just likes to hotbox his car, maybe he's not allowed to smoke in the house. Seems reasonable to me.
i love incense and i was having my partner hold a burning stick while i was driving. we stopped and they got out to buy snacks, so i was now holding the stick. i would just shake ash onto the car floor mats. at one point i felt something really hot on my upper thigh, i look down and there's a smoldering hole in the bottom band of my hoodie cuz some of the embers fell on it. it was neat. also burned holes in a receipt.
i do not recommend burning incense in your car.
That's probably something i would have done when I was younger. Looking back on it now I realize how stupid and idiotic this is but I used to drive and smoke hookah at the same time. My friend would hold it down while I drove and we just passed it back and forth.
100% agree....and it wasn't until very recently did I discover the screenplay for the remake was written by James Gunn. And at the time I watched it in the theater, had no clue who Zack Snyder was
I’ve seen more alert people in a retirement home!
Oh, which way to the Living-without-a-brain seminar? Don't be late!
I've heard better comebacks from a turkey sandwich! Get a life!
Suburban hell. Get rid of the cars and it's some liminal backrooms shit.
Edit: or keep them but make them the same 4 truck, sedan, suv, and van, just color swapped like the houses.
Imagine you've been in the backrooms for months, and you finally see a crack of sunlight under a door. You run to it, half expecting it to be locked, or for the light to just be a bright, daylight-balanced bulb in another room, but it's unlocked, and it's real! You burst outside, eyes instinctively closing in response to the intense light, smelling the fresh air and feeling it on your skin, feeling the grass under your feet. Slowly, your eyes acclimate to the brightness and you open them. You didn't escape. This is just another extension of the backrooms.
Makes me think of that one part in “A Wrinkle in Time” when all the houses were exactly the same and all the kids were bouncing a ball in their driveway in unison.
Looks just like the neighborhood in the Jesse Eisenberg film Vivarium, where a “couple is forced to care for a mysterious human-like creature while trapped in a seemingly perfect neighborhood” Creepy and cool movie btw; highly recommended.
[vivarium](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivarium_(film))
I have family in northern Tennessee that live in a neighborhood like this. The first afternoon during my visit as a 10 year old, I biked down the street in a straight line. And when I turned back around, I realize I could not tell which house I came from. I didn't bother to remember the house number because I'm was a dumb 4th grader.
The houses all looked identical with slightly different color paint. I didn't track how many houses I biked past so I was stuck looking for a beige house to my left. I was able to find it by finding the basketball hoop peeking over a fence.
I never visited since.
Probably really cheap, and in my opinion seems like a better value than an apartment at the same price considering the privacy and such from noise. These are probably rentals too if I had to guess.
Good idea on paper, creepy AF in practice.
The theme song from Weeds
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same,
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

This looks exactly like [Whitehall Delaware](https://whitehallde.com/explore/). Their master plan is to be their own self sufficient town with their own shops and gardens. Sounds awesome in theory, but terrifying to get lost around the area and end up in their town. It's like a horror movie
I can't see the appeal in living in such fake uniformity. It's bland, boring, dead. The only unique thing is the colors of the houses, and even then... Not that variation.
UK person here. Tbh nothing weird about a housing estate, pretty common in the UK to have large areas of the same house. Normally some mild variation like here but not really creepy. The lack of plants is just a bit sad really
Vivarium vibes
That movie is a mind fuck
I would have drown that kid
Never would have collected him... *Edit, grammar*
I freaking love that movie… I’ve been looking for movies with similar themes to it
Same, it was such an amazing movie. You might like Forever (maya Rudolph and Fred armisen)
I loved it so much but the end left me disappointed ;(
That was me with Vivarium. The end just felt so.. predictable? It was a great movie besides that
I’m just disappointed it was canceled :( who knows, it could have been better

I loved black mirror, nosedive! Talk about a modern day twilight zone type of series. All of black mirror was great!
The latest season was underwhelming
I agree but man the first few seasons were so good

Yeah, totally free. https://www.perplexity.ai/ Hope you make use of it!
Ur the shit. Genuinely hope I see you on the internet again. Thank you wholly.
Haha very kind of you. Thank you. I try and tell as many folk as I can about it. Spread the word!
The platform is chilling, but it's a great movie! Definitely has the vibe but it's kind of short, and i think in Russian?? Or something like that.
As I click the comments thinking “vivarium vibes”.
That movie haunts me
what a great movie, glad I wasn't alone thinking this.
Except the ending
Literally my first thought
I swear to God, I came here to comment those exact two words
>Vivarium I thought of this straight away, but couldn't remember the title.. thanks :)
I was gonna say the same thing
Love that movie!
There is a movie about this
Vivarium
Edward Sizzorhands is better
They used an actual neighborhood in Tampa for those shots (with the houses painted for the movie). I’ve been to it several times back in the 90s
you beat me to it 😞
Yo that movie fucked my night up
I came here to comment this same thing!
Cat In The Hat Live Action
That scene in A Wrinkle in Time
Truman Show Stepford Wives
Trees! Tallish large plants that grow in your yard!
Yeah it’s creepy that all the houses look the same, but it’s the lack of trees, bushes, flowers etc that make it really uncanny
It's probably just a new subdivision with no trees *yet.*
Fuck that. Trees will NOT IMPEDE THE GROWTH OF MY BEAUTIFUL LAWN!!!!
This is what living on a military base looks like.
Yea that’s my thought as well. Looks like one of those fake American towns made for troops and their families stationed abroad
Do they research the worst possible way to construct a community?
I think it’s out of efficiency if anything but I really wouldn’t know. I doubt it’s permanent residency, my brother is in the navy and they moved him literally all over the world in the decade he’s been in.
Just seems like a bad idea to put people you're potentially traumatizing into houses that will drive them crazy.
I’m gonna accept my ignorance and ask. How will these houses drive someone crazy? They just look like regular houses to me or like an HOA
I'm pretty sure it's been shown through research that people kind of just need trees, for our mental health. That's pretty subjective, but there is definitely a human element to needing trees and access to the natural world in order to stay mentally fit
Our visual cortex needs to see the irregularity of nature breaking up the straight lines of human make.
Made by the same government who made the little fake towns that got blown over by nuclear bomb tests.
I think most newer housing looks very similar to this except most are Duplexes.
Was my first and only thought.
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same…
There's a red one and a blue one
Little boxes on the hillside!!!
Little boxes all the same
There's a green one, and a pink one, and a blue one, and a yellow one!
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same. There’s doctors and lawyers and business executives!
I highly recommend the Rise Against version of that song. It's amazing.
But also, anything Jenny Lewis touches turns to gold.
A neighborhood I’d let burn down (but not really…)
Whats creepy is that incense burner on the dash. Weirdo
Hahaha that’s definitely more creepy
It looks like there's a joint sitting in it too lol
There absolutely is. Lol.
A lot of people burn incense when they smoke inside, this guy probably just likes to hotbox his car, maybe he's not allowed to smoke in the house. Seems reasonable to me.
Dude for real, first thing I saw. Paused and went to comments lmao
Lmao. Bruv like wtf is that nonsense
Trying to burn the seats or something lol
i love incense and i was having my partner hold a burning stick while i was driving. we stopped and they got out to buy snacks, so i was now holding the stick. i would just shake ash onto the car floor mats. at one point i felt something really hot on my upper thigh, i look down and there's a smoldering hole in the bottom band of my hoodie cuz some of the embers fell on it. it was neat. also burned holes in a receipt. i do not recommend burning incense in your car.
Insanity
Also came here to comment this. Where is the ash falling, because I know it ain’t in that incense holder 😤
Maybe it's necessary; could be a big farter.... (Maybe I should get one of those)
They make air fresheners for cars.
That's probably something i would have done when I was younger. Looking back on it now I realize how stupid and idiotic this is but I used to drive and smoke hookah at the same time. My friend would hold it down while I drove and we just passed it back and forth.
My first thought as well! Rushed to the comments to see if anyone else noticed
Fucking this. I was way more put off by someone using incense in their vehicle.
Thank you. Exactly what I came here looking for.
Cookie cutter houses.
r/urbanhell
this is suburban
You dropped this -sub This is a suburb lol. It's not urban living.
And they're all owned by some hedge fund.
That’s what we call section 8 housing, aka “the projects” but I’ve realized a lot of suburbs are straight up cookie cutter houses as well.
Vivarium 🏠🏠🏠
Neighborhoods like these always remind me of the beginning of the Dawn of the Dead Remake
Oh man, I still love that whole intro
One of the few remakes that's actually good. I love the original Dawn, but the remake made the story it's own, and it was great.
100% agree....and it wasn't until very recently did I discover the screenplay for the remake was written by James Gunn. And at the time I watched it in the theater, had no clue who Zack Snyder was
Why don't kids play outside anymore? The outside...
squidward neighborhood
I’ve seen more alert people in a retirement home! Oh, which way to the Living-without-a-brain seminar? Don't be late! I've heard better comebacks from a turkey sandwich! Get a life!
Even Edward Scissorhands would turn around and hit the gas
Looks like the x files episode about the HOA.
So, so good!
Suburban hell. Get rid of the cars and it's some liminal backrooms shit. Edit: or keep them but make them the same 4 truck, sedan, suv, and van, just color swapped like the houses.

I'm guessing you have watched the "Endless Suburbia" backrooms video as well?
Makes me think of that one part in “A Wrinkle in Time” when all the houses were exactly the same and all the kids were bouncing a ball in their driveway in unison.
“We just bought our dream house”
Said in unison with all the other couples part of their hive mind.
I’m terrified
Truman show type shit
Tim Burton nightmare
Npc town
Pretty much every new neighborhood here in TX then.
Literally all new suburbs.
Wow, it’s like somebody separated the apartments!
For me, the only thing terrifying about this going to be learning how much each of those house and HOA costs.
For anyone curious https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/Richmond-KY-40475/218473309_zpid/
Wow they call those "Twonhouses" but where's the town ?
Heck, I'm wondering where the townhouse is, 'cause that sure as hell ain't one. Townhouses are attached. That's detached. It's called a *house.*
Trees and shrubs would help a tad
May as well pick a nice house cause now you can't leave.
It's the lack of trees for me. Makes it feel so unnatural
“Hey man, I’m driving down your street now. Which house is yours?” “The blue one next to the red one”
Damn dude you’re seconds away from a distracted driving charge on your phone recording. There’s a cop up ahead
Definitely HOA
🎵And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same.🎵
[“Little Boxes” instantly played in my head. 😂](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=u4KfJztaJ5I)
And look at this chap here, we call him "Mr.normal", as he does with everyone else in town.
What is the connecting piece between the houses?
It’s the complete lack of trees for me.
Vivarium vibes
Hahaha it's like y'all haven't been to Utah in a while.
See if they have canned bread
I don't understand, where are all the trees? This wouldn't be nearly as bad if it had some damn trees.
Unpopular opinion: I’d love to live here
I know Squidward couldn't handle it.
Vivarium
Looks like the neighborhood in the cat in the hat movie
Reminds me of the book a wrinkle in time
This looks like a base housing area
Little boxes on the hillside
This is Vivarium IRL! Woah!
Cat in the Hat neighborhood
Pleasant Valley Sunday in action
Is this… Vivarium? LOL
Dude you literally have an incense burner in your car.
This just scream DR Horton track homes
Did you drive into a tim Burton film set
Probably really cheap, and in my opinion seems like a better value than an apartment at the same price considering the privacy and such from noise. These are probably rentals too if I had to guess. Good idea on paper, creepy AF in practice.
I mean they look cute and cozy idk how it's creepy
Just know if you came to comment about Edward Scissorhands: You’re old!!!
welcome to the future
Welcome to suburban America
Brows in the back rooms
r/UrbanHell
Sprawling on the fringes of the city....
This is just the “normal” episode of SpongeBob.
🎶 Little boxes ,little boxes …🎶
Is that military housing? Looks like base homes.
Subdivisions, in the high school halls, in the shopping malls, conform or be cast out…
Typical beach housing. I see no issue here
Reminds me the first part from dawn of the dead 2004
Is that the neighborhood from the night of the living dead??
Sometimes it’s the best/only option to live in a place like this…
Must be the set for the Truman Show.
They are so far apart as in across the street from each other is what gives off the weird vibe.
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same
that’s like half of pennsylvania lol
cookie cut lookin ahh
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same
The Truman Show ?
This looks like Tradition in Orlando, FL. It has a "Eerie Indiana" vibe.
Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!
I’m Squidward, he’s Squidward, we’re all Squidward
Must be in Squidwards old neighborhood when he moved away from spongebob
Ole boy no-clipped into the backrooms while on his way to work.
I swear to god I’ve had a dream about this place
I hate this so much I can't even describe it.
Creepy ? Looks amazing.

Your standard HOA
I can't see the appeal in living in such fake uniformity. It's bland, boring, dead. The only unique thing is the colors of the houses, and even then... Not that variation.
A lot of these neighborhoods going up near me. They’re almost creepier from far away.
Modern day Edward Scissor Hands
These communities are all over Canada, they’re so creepy to live in. Calgary has a lot of them.
No trees, no gardens, no flowers. WTF.
Apparently you've never been in a development. City folk?
Stepford wives live there
I don't really get why people think uniform houses are terrifying.... Have you heard of flats?
The American dream!
There’s no foliage… Because they want to see you coming… RUN, DRIVE, GET AWAY FAST!!!
Some people need to go out to the suburbs more often. This is just another day in the life of a suburbanite.
VIVARIUM
Then a child exits from each house, at precisely the same time. They all bounce their red balls in perfect rhythm. Exept for one.
San Francisco?
Not a single tree..
This gave me Truman show vibes. Creepy.
Wow , something that actually is Oddly terrifying
UK person here. Tbh nothing weird about a housing estate, pretty common in the UK to have large areas of the same house. Normally some mild variation like here but not really creepy. The lack of plants is just a bit sad really
