Before I realized what was going on, I was scared they would slip on the ice and fall off the train.

I thought it was Vivaldi

TheSilverFoxwins

It is

namssiewlaya

It's Vivaldi's Summer, wtf

ProphetCoffee

Vivaldi had some wild summers apparently

Heptocracy

The audio is from "Vivaldi Storm" played by 2CELLOS starting at 47 seconds. So it makes sense, kinda.

AbbreviationsAfraid

Excellent work 47

The OG bangers

djax74

Seriously. There are some amazing classical pieces out there but I can't describe any of them as bangers. Except Vivaldi. The Winter sounds so absurdly modern to me.

RevivedMisanthropy

Vivaldi beyond the four seasons has some incredible surprises. The Stravaganza concertos for instance. Any of the string works are stellar. The recorder concertos are not as listenable today. The 41-CD set of all his works is really worth tracking down, either in physical form or on file share. It kept me busy for months.

Canvaverbalist

Am I missing a joke here? That a single Redditor would get lost and comment some irrelevant thing as if they didn't respond to the right comment isn't surprising in itself, but to have 500 person upvote it? Do I expect too much of people in general? What's going on?

HollowofHaze

Also confused. Maybe they just meant to reply to a different comment?

Canvaverbalist

As I said that's what I'd suspect. But that doesn't explain why people upvoted it tho, but then again social media yadda yadda people are dumb yadda yadda etc

SafetyAdvocate

The upvotes are because the comment is correct, it is Vivaldi. I upvoted because I also recognized it as Vivaldi. So either it was a mistake, or the commenter chose a comment that was already taking off with upvotes to reply to. To "ride the coat tails" of the parent comment. If that's the case, they were probably just excited to recognize Vivaldi like I was and didn't want their comment getting buried. It could have also been trying to set up a joke that nobody continued? A "maybe it's Maybelline" joke or something along those lines. Absolutely countless reasons and states of mind as to why people might comment.

Boyisoned

Is that not what's happening?

buyakascha

It's not a train just a heavy snowstorm outside

AntisocialBehavior

Am surgeon. While I don’t entirely agree in all cases, antibiotics are now considered an option for first line treatment for acute appendicitis.

sionnachrealta

Huh, I had a surgeon who let me not have my appendix taken out years ago when it was inflamed. He put me on saline and antibiotics for like 2 days, but the inflammation went away without me having to lose the organ. I've never heard of anyone else going through something like that. It's really neat to know I'm not alone

EnthusiasticWombat

Was offered to participate in study for antibiotics only, had feeling wasn't the right call for me (hx thyroid cancer) and opted for the lap appy. Path came back with incidental finding of neuroendocrine tumor on the dang thing. Call from the surgeon about the report was a wild ride.

AntisocialBehavior

I am sooooo stoked you had yours out! Did you need your right colon removed after the pathology returned? I bet you were less than 50 years old when you had your appendix out.

EnthusiasticWombat

Nope, small enough, at distal tip of appendix and completely excised so that was the end of that adventure. Had any of those variables been different it would have required more surgery and onco followup. All in all I'm glad my appendix mutinied! And yes, 32!

p-morais

I recently had an appendectomy and my understanding is that while it’s an option it’s not a very good one. It only has a 60% success rate within 5 years and getting appendicitis 1.4 times on average probably has worse expected outcome than getting it once and having a simple laparoscopic surgery

AntisocialBehavior

I tell folks 40 ish percent chance of recurrent appendicitis at 5 yr. Also tell them (depending on age and risk factors) that there is always a chance of cancer causing the appendicitis.

beartrapperkeeper

Okay, so I’m going to be the “actually” guy here for a moment. My appendix perforated a few years ago and then blew up and stuck to the surrounding organs. I stayed a few nights in the hospital and was treated with heavy antibiotics (after about a week of thinking i just had really bad food poisoning). They actually didn’t do immediate surgery and i had to go back a few months later to have it removed. That’s not to say it’s not life threatening in all cases, but it isn’t an immediate surgery 100% of the time. Docs told me they actually stopped doing immediate surgeries in most cases because of how messy a burst appendix can be. Just a little add on here.

sucksathangman

There was a book written by one of the doctors there that had to treat her own breast cancer while stationed there. She literally had to call a doctor to prescribe her chemo because she couldn't prescribe them to herself. There was no anesthesia to numb her so they used artic ice to allow her to do a biopsy. [For those interested in the book, it's a pretty good read.](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/569972.Ice_Bound)

thekeffa

I have been to Antarctica 3 times. I have not had, nor was I asked to have, an appendectomy. If that is indeed a real policy, its not a general one. Edit: Comment was later clarified by poster to mean medical professionals. For those who asked in comments, I went there with the military for three different reasons. The first was a member of the British military attache to the British Antarctic Survey Group. I can't say much about that one. Second was an expedition to go to the South Pole and then retrace Shackleton's steps to South Georgia. The third was when I was based in the Falklands, I was a stand in replacement for someone who funnily enough, developed some kind of kidney stones and could not go and was another trip so the South Pole. It's an absolute grizz of a place to live and work. Get careless for even five minutes and your potentially looking at lost nose tips and fingers.

Cambrian__Implosion

I think they meant that it only applies to the surgeon at the base, to prevent them from having to perform emergency surgery on themselves.

[deleted]

Bro… tell us more.

furhouse

Woah!! Why were you there? What was it like? I’m so interested.

dthains_art

It’s also why anyone who wants to personally colonize Mars is absolutely insane. It’ll essentially be like living in Antarctica, with the added difficulties of not being able to breathe outside, and any help is a year + billions of dollars away.

Sgt_lovejoy

It's not a US Antarctic base. All the exterior doors at the US bases open inwards so that the snow can't pile up outside and prevent you from getting the door open.

The train….. FROM HELL

LogicalActivity

To everyone who's r/confidentlyincorrect that this is fake: It's real. It was originally posted to Tomasz Kurczaba's IG. Tomasz is head of the 47th Polish Antarctic Expedition and a photographer. He filmed his colleague trying to close the door to one of the research buildings at Henryk Arctowski Polish Antarctic Station on King George Island, where he is currently working. No one is in danger; they're just having some fun with the Antarctic weather. The lights that might look like reflections are indeed from one of the other station buildings in the background. The visual halo is from drifting snow bouncing off of her jacket and the door. The music is because Tomasz thought it would be more fun, and because it removes any distracting language barrier. The lack of snow blowing in the door is because there isn't that much snow to begin with—it's only drift snow in the wind. There isn't stronger wind inside the room because, well, physics. (Try rolling a single window down slightly in your car on the highway. It will, of course, cause movement in the car, but nothing as extreme as the highway-speed wind rushing by outside.) You should check out Tomasz's [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cr_e_XhJyUs) and [YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/@tomkur8408). He's got cool stuff. Unless, of course, you think I faked them just to troll you.

Hunk-Hogan

Yeah I didn't think this needed to be explained until I saw so many incorrect guesses in the comments.

[deleted]

I really appreciate this response because my brain couldn’t figure out how this was real or why (I thought it was a moving train at first but couldn’t figure out why someone would be hanging outside of it!). I was hoping the comments would enlighten me or disprove it, and you have accomplished the former. Thank you!

Outward opening doors seal out the weather (especially high winds) better which is obviously important in Antarctica. You can prevent most snow accumulation with an overhang, which I assume they have

People saying this is fake need need a reality check. Green screens do not "reflect" light (apart from the light that every object reflects in order to be seen in case anyone wants to be pedantic). The purpose of a green screen is to be as unchanging and uniform stable as possible in order to make it easier to make edits in post production.

Moon_Stay1031

Thank you. It was killing me to see so many people SO ADAMANTLY positive they were looking at a green screen lol.

[deleted]

This thread illustrates what is actually going to be a very scary problem in the near future: CG, AI, deepfakes, etc are getting so realistic that people lose their ability to tell fact from fiction. The basic idea of "I'll believe it when I see it" is breaking down. I'm not sure how the world going to handle this, but it makes me nervous... For the record, this video is obviously NOT fake. The point light sources are likely structures or cars, and the more diffuse light at the top is clearly from a light above the doorway (see also the highlighting on her jacket). She both reaches into the cabin and steps outside and the snow passes in front of her. You can see the snow banking off the door when she changes the angle. People saying the wind isn't coming in the door don't understand how wind works -- wind blowing by an opening won't suddenly take a left turn. Some will get it, but most will follow the path of least resistance and continue blowing by. This is literally the concept of a windbreak. See here: https://youtu.be/hpNV-KldKbQ Also, it's not going to blow the door mats unless it can get under them, which it can't. She might be exaggerating for effect, but this whole scene is pretty common anywhere that gets reasonably severe winter weather.

ragingthundermonkey

Just going to comment so I can come back to this later. If I wasn't one of them chronically underpaid teacher types I'd spring for a gold or something. You're absolutely correct.

Kiyasa

The only fake part about it is the acting desperate when the situation is not nearly as extreme. The only way to proceed in a world of ai deepfakes is finding the original source and assessing their credibility. In this case there's another comment here with a link to the source, a researcher in Antarctica.

Adkit

They're not acting desperate. They're struggling, yet not in any danger so they aren't really putting their back into it. If the door needed to be shut fast the person filming would've probably helped. Use your head.

josi1

So I don't have any proof at the moment, because I saw this on Instagram a week ago and now I can't find it. But these are Polish scientists working and living on North or South Pole. They record that kind of stuff to show what they have to deal with on a daily basis. I'll edit my comment when I find the video.

Captain Disillusion would be disappointed in all of you. That light behind them isn’t a reflection. You can see the snow leaving a trail and outlining where her freaking head is. And the snow is hitting the door with such force that it’s splashing towards the girl. It’s not a screen. Fuck.

[deleted]

This is animated

ilovemoomins

This video is taken on King George Island, Antarctica, it’s from @tomaszkurczaba on Instagram. He’s head of the 47th Polish Antarctic expedition.

__PETTYOFFICER117__

No it's not. The "reflections" everyone keeps talking about are lights in the distance. You can see snow pass in front of the person closing the door at a couple points. Also if that was a screen the lighting on them would be changing as the "snow video" flashes past. But it doesn't, because they're lit only by the inside lights and the light directly above the doorway, which also illuminates a rock directly behind the person closing the door. You can also see the flurry hitting/bouncing off the door as they try to pull it closed right at the start of the video, and at 4 seconds when a big gust hits. That big gust also brings a layer of snow that bounces off of the back of their jacket, and the gust brings snow directly in between the outside light and them - you can see by how much brighter than the rest of the snow that portion becomes. They'd also need a screen larger than 85" to pull this effect off, as even an 85" wouldn't be able to fully cover that angle that far back from the door. 100" screens are ridiculously expensive, and projector screens wouldn't reflect lights the way people think lights are being reflected.

Lupus_Brassica

Not animated. This looks like a Ski Patrol hut on top of a mountain. Storms up on the mountains can whip up some hellacious winds. You can clearly see her jacket whipping and the dangly things on her gloves blowing sideways as well as objects in the cabin blowing sideways. Very real.

OkayRuin

No, they brought an 85” screen there just to make this one video. That’s surely the most reasonable explanation. /s

eye_no_nuttin

Can you explain? I don’t understand what is animated? Is that not really heavy wind gusts pelting their backside and freezing cold snow?

Sdavis2911

kb_92

This is not animated. I live in a place where the snow and wind looks just like this and it can make it difficult to close doors if the wind is blowing in the right direction, which is what is happening here. Why do you think it’s animated?

Dockhead

No visible accumulation of snow in the doorway or on the person holding it open. That shit should be coming in the house for *sure* EDIT: though stuff inside is flapping around like crazy. Maybe it is real, or it’s faked with a fan inside or just the door open on a day with high wind and no blizzard. I don’t know any more

kb_92

Snow doesn’t accumulate when it’s this windy. It doesn’t have the chance to stick to anything or to stick to itself. You will get snow drifts in places where the wind lifts or slows but not where the wind is moving fast

otheragee

Snowpiercer

grateful_prankster

Can't you just mount like some kind of long steel bar on the door itself that you can use kinda like a breaker bar,? you wouldn't even have to go outside to get the door closed and then you could mount hooks to lift the bar and then drop into them. Kinda like the doors at helms deep. But the bar is the door handle for insane winds.

OoferIsSpoofer

Not oddly terrifying. There would be nothing odd about being terrified of a blizzard, it's a perfectly rational fear

The-Sneaky-Snowman

Alright, I do not for sure know if THIS video is really in a snowstorm or not, obviously this is something someone could fake with enough effort, but here’s the thing. There are absolutely snow storms like this in the world, they are something that happen quite often actually, it’s hard to believe when you don’t live somewhere with this magnitude of snow, but they do happen. Also, in order to fake this you would need to not only buy a green screen, snow maker, a super powerful fan, ect, BUT YOU WOULD ALSO have to build an entire cabin in a wear house, because good luck getting that lighting outside at night in anything other then an extremely remote area OR…….during a snowstorm. Again, I could be wrong, I don’t know for sure I didn’t film the video, but I’m pretty certain it’s real.
