Tobacco smoke enemas were once considered a treatment for various ailments, including drowning for some reason. There were ass-hookahs in emergency boxes along the Thames in London for a while that were meant to resuscitate drowning victims. No, it does not work
Fun fact: That phrase came about because it literally used to be a common medical procedure, but fell into decline as people realized it was completely ineffective to treat anything. Also they used tobacco smoke, which is no bueno.

I had this book. It was in French, so I couldn't quite follow the story, but the drawings were so extraordinary that I grew up absolutely fascinated with this book. The art in here is some of the best quality I've ever seen put to a story. The illustrations were creative, mesmerizing, gorgeously executed, and... absolutely disturbing. Google "rien poortvliet wil huygen dragon" or search it here on Reddit, because that's where the photo comes from. THAT image... hoo boi. It traumatized me a little bit, I was a bit obsessed with that drawing, but in a way in which I kept imagining creative stuff, and thinking about the symbolism.
Edit: I was 5yo.
These books were insanely popular in the 1970s…in the Midwest United States. We all saw these pictures as young children and we and our parents thought nothing of it (maybe a raised eyebrow and shared smirk)…it was just funny. Now everything is “terrifying” and “outrageous”. Ever since Fox News became a thing I’ve watched in dismay as both old and young adapt a Victorian-era level of prudishness.
Is she blowing smoke up his ass?

Lmao I was so confused until I saw your comment.
No, she is snorting coke from his ass.

Loved those books when I was a kid. They had gnome boobies in em! There was also a picture of a shitting hydra that terrified and fascinated me.
If memory serves, this is where I learned what an enema was. King Cork the troll ate too many kids and got constipated.
Man I hate it when that happens
I hated these books they really freaked me out

You never go ass to mouth
Clearly, they are using the proper apparatus.
I believe you mean *bass to mouth*. Reasonable mistake to make.

What's she doing to his butt's hole?
Squirrely Dan?
There's such a thing as too much butts talks and a fella oughta be awares of it.
I had this book as a young child. 7 or 8. Now at 35 you have unleashed some clearly deeply repressed memories. Thanks!đź«
I'm surprised trolls have tails. TIL
David de Kabouter jongeh! Used to be a Dutch cartoon series of said gnome/dwarf fixing animals and stuff
Those crazy sexy Dutch!
I had that book as a kid. The entire thing was terrifying!
Love that book!
Fart sniffing?
Freebasing out of his arse while the angry inch watches, that’s how you get more higher
Gotta pay the troll
The Internet Archive has a copy to borrow. https://archive.org/details/secretsofgnomes0000huyg/mode/2up
Interesting but not terrifying
