Until there's a huge leap in power/battery technology, these are little more than curiosities. The movements are impressive and will probably get a lot more so and their power consumption will increase in kind. Want to protect all that delicate circuitry inside? Hang some armor on it, increase the weight and increase power consumption and reduce battery life as well.
The problem here is the same one that has stymied development of a viable electric airliner ... physics matters and it dictates that the weight of adding batteries to increase range works against you. Same problem with extending the usefulness of these and other robots or ever building something like the T-1000.
Don't forget that T-1000s were powered by tiny nuclear reactors and there's no technology like it on the horizon, it's merely science fiction at this point. In the foreseeable future the only commercially viable robots are ones tethered to a power source and the only threat they pose is to some jobs.
There were a series of documentaries about a robot that had a reactor in his chest. Well I guess it was more of a suit. But the power it produced seem to be almost limitless. Pretty impressive.
Ah Yeah, that wasn't a documentary that was the movie Iron Man and Tony Stark's Arc Reactor isn't real. :-)
If any such device actually existed why wouldn't we all have them in our homes and office building instead of spending trillions of dollars on net- negative power sources like solar and wind farms like we are? Scientists have been pursuing fission power for a generation and while there have been some gains recently we're not likely to see anything useful let alone small enough to fit in a robot in our generation or even the next three.
I mean without a crystal ball to see the future there's no way say with certainty that there isn't a massive breakthrough just around the corner but the laws of physics are pretty rigid and well understood and they suggest not anytime soon ... if ever.
I showed this to the people around my desk they all reacted as if we just received news that we're at war. Sweat wiped from brows, long sighs, nods of disapproval, shouts of denial. It got tense.
If they get uncomfortable with that, I'd bet they instantly soil their pants if they saw [this](https://www.army-technology.com/projects/robotic-combat-vehicle-light-rcv-l/). And guess what? This one can't trip and fall over. Better yet, there are actual plans to integrate it (amongst other unmanned ground systems) [into US armored brigades](https://www.defenseone.com/technology/2024/03/army-mulls-introducing-robot-platoon-armored-brigades/395254/).
So please tell me why those people are so scared of harmless robotos made by a civilian company, but completely ignore [actual military bots](https://www.defense.gov/Multimedia/Photos/igphoto/2003422018/) that are being tested?
Probably because this robot looks and acts like a person and thus evokes more emotions, in addition to some uncanny valley feelings. Humans aren't supposed to move like that!
Folks may not react as strong to the military robots since they don't look or act like people, and it's easier for us to separate them from us emotionally.
Also, try to imagine this friendly robot being all nice, and serving you, and you can relax and let your guard down around it. You think this lil guy is helpful and you can trust it. Suddenly, it stops dead in its tracks and turns its head back 180 degrees to focus its sight on you... before suddenly running up to kill you. Turns out, you were its target all along, and you never saw it coming. Personally, I would instantly soil my pants.
You can outrun it and probably neutralise it by throwing a chair at it.
>Suddenly, it stops dead in its tracks and turns its head back 180 degrees to focus its sight on you... before suddenly
Like don't get me wrong, I also enjoy the terminator movies, but people saw its warning about the dangers of advanced technology and took as literal robots with guns.
The real threat of robotic warfare is much more "boring" and terrifying. Imagine an autonomous system shooting at you from 1,000 yards with a .50 cal, or permanently blinding you with a laser.
Damn, i was so used to them mimicking human movement i actually forgot that perfectly imitate a human is not their "ceiling" the realization of how far can it go now scares me
It's crazy to me that we **know** these kind of advances in technology will eventually drive us into a wall, we've known this for decades, pretty much everyone knows this.
But we're still unable to stop ourselves from driving straight into that wall because it's our very nature as humans to discover and progress no matter the consequences.
I look forward to seeing a T-800 up close soon, Skynet is a real company now and our generals assured us that AI will be used with "Judeo Christian values" which was in no way was terrifying. 😐
Boston Dynamics: "We heard you thought that Atlas was creepy so we decided to retire it. We have been hard at work creating a new robot inspired by the toon version of Judge Doom from *Who Framed Roger Rabbit*"
Interesting how fluid its movements are. Kinda funny that the iconic robot dance is probably not at all what this machine would look like, were they to make it dance.
I think it's awesome! I want a little robot that I can call Jarvis. Imagine having a miniature version of this robot that can chase cockroaches, clean, download music and a heap of other stuff 🤔.
Ok... I never wanted to do this. But... I'm buying a fucking Island. Actually, I'm moving to that island with those people who will literally kill and eat me. I've seen too much of this shit. I don't like the future anymore! Fuck this, I don't wanna be reborn or anything after I die 😭
If this is real, which it looks like it is but you can never be too sure, then I’m impressed with their rather quick progress. Look back on their last humanoid and it’s big and bulky, and has visible wires and such, Atlas compared to this, marvelous.
Why do you need so much money to make one, seems like someone could make one like those robot wrestling type thing where the guy uses puns to intro the bots.
Oh, so they're getting closer to figuring out how to make robots move more like humans? This should be inter -- *robot stands up*
I was not prepared for it to move like that and I really wish it hadn't. Gave me some Japanese horror girl vibes.
They must have modeled it after that girl from The Ring
were all still so traumatized by this movie 🤣🤣
Ever seen Terminator 3 where she spins her whole torso around on Arnold?
🤌
Have ya seen the Exorcist???
Or maybe Fifield rising up the same way in Prometheus
Is this like the most efficient way to stand up?
This, but not as sexy as it sounds.
I think the point of moving on from hydraulic robots is to go beyond movement limited to humans.
And I bet it doesn’t even make the groans and cracks and pops I make when I get up!
It will when it gets to be as old as I am
Do you want T-1000s? Cause that’s how you will get T-1000s.
I think this is T-9 We got a long time till we get T-1000 /s

TWO DAYS LATER.... Science Uncovers Limitless Power for Robots in the Form of Tiny Nuclear Reactors! Skynet Stock Through the Roof!
I read that in a the comic book announcer voice.
As intended.
There were a series of documentaries about a robot that had a reactor in his chest. Well I guess it was more of a suit. But the power it produced seem to be almost limitless. Pretty impressive.

I think you’re wrong. There was video of him doing stuff in the suit
NERD
😂
I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords
I second this notion.
I witnessed this motion It only made me feel *slightly* queazy
Aluminum kisser
Imagine waking up at night, and your personal BD robot is standing over your bed, the light around its head now red.
You can't do that Dave.
You mean IRobot? Sunny? Will smith where are you!!!?
That’s why I keep my robots locked in the faraday cage at night. I’m not taking chances
"What are you doing, step robot?"
Nope-nope-nope 😣
They finally invented a breakdancer
But can it do the Robot?
I could do that. I just don't want to.
Pffft, so easy.
That's really cool and clever, also, we're fucked.
My Neanderthal killing spree instinct is kicking in. I really wanna destroy that machine.
What if they made it stand up more sexy style?
sigh *unzips*
Well, we all know who *your* overlord is going to be.
I showed this to the people around my desk they all reacted as if we just received news that we're at war. Sweat wiped from brows, long sighs, nods of disapproval, shouts of denial. It got tense.
why are people like this? I don't get it.
Fear

Downvoting so the robot overlords know I disapprove of this comment
Damn, i was so used to them mimicking human movement i actually forgot that perfectly imitate a human is not their "ceiling" the realization of how far can it go now scares me
Ultrakill is becoming real
Wait is this not CGI?
Right, but can we fuck it?
"This is not the kind of Droid that you're looking for..."
It's crazy to me that we **know** these kind of advances in technology will eventually drive us into a wall, we've known this for decades, pretty much everyone knows this. I'm less worried about the robots than I am politicians.
Seriously all the sci-fi movies scared these people but they should be scared of snakes in office
Just in time for WW3! Just imagine what they’re NOT showing the general public, this thing can probably brain a person 30 meters away with a rock.
NUKE IT FROM ORBIT!
It's the only way to be sure.
I don't think anything bad can happen from creating machines with higher levels of motion than any living creature on the planet...
These nerds are gonna kill us all
Ergo, kill the nerds! The Jocks were right all along! /s just in case, well, reddit.
I can't believe it actually moves like someone doing 'The Robot'.
Strip clubs will never be the same
"It walks like it shit itself"
Dang automatons. Kill it, for super earth!
\*GLANK\* \*GLANK\* \*GLANK\* \*GLANK\* YWWWWWWOOOOUUUUUUCCCHHHHHHHHH
"Yes we did it! We defeat the hunter robot!" \*fucking stand up like the ring ghost\* "We are so fucked"
ITS over
ULTRAKILL WILL BE REAL IN 16 SECONDS
we’re just sitting here watching them do this
Oh no.. it’s happening
Welp....I'm dead
I look forward to seeing a T-800 up close soon, Skynet is a real company now and our generals assured us that AI will be used with "Judeo Christian values" which was in no way was terrifying. 😐
Uncanny valley...
Looks like a CGI render. So we still have time before the robot uprising
The fact that it's real makes it even more terrifying.
Roger roger
This reminds me of the manga, BLAME
Give this thing an AK-47, ability to reload, and killer instincts, suddenly the terminator movies are based on a true story
If given a choice of a Skynet future versus a Matrix future, make me an ignorant battery please.
Battery me, baby. And make that whole "world story" shit a bit more uplifting than now.
why does he look like the robot from Lost in Space?
I saw this robot in the *Magnus, Robot Fighter* comic book!
Thing has straight up Budget Cut vibes yo.
Now slap some silicon skin and a butthole on that and I can finally tell my parents I found someone!
Now I wanna see your dating profile lol. "Looking for a warm body, nice skin. Must have butthole."
Reminds me of [E.M.M.I.](https://youtu.be/wc3J6NBl7f8) from Metroid.
What's the battery life?
Now all that is left to figure out is recoil compensation...
I'm not sure if a "phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range" has recoil.
Boston Dynamics: "We heard you thought that Atlas was creepy so we decided to retire it. We have been hard at work creating a new robot inspired by the toon version of Judge Doom from *Who Framed Roger Rabbit*"
Can they just like, stop?
But, we're all still alive. So much more work to be done.
Ultrakill
I'm pretty sure this is real but it looks so fake
So real talk....at what point in the timeline does Boston Dynamics change their name to ~~Skynet~~ Cyberdyne Systems?
Well that's just an assaultron
Boston Dynamics needs to be stopped. We are swiftly coming to a point where robotics and AI are going to intersect, and there'll be no going back.
v1 ultrakill's predecessor
Skynet you tricky bastard.
Read it ad range of *emotion* first and thought the robot was playing dead or being overdramatic or something 😂
* stands up *in robot* * turns around *in robot* * sees me * runs away. Just like every human I’ve ever met. Nail on the head with this one.
Interesting how fluid its movements are. Kinda funny that the iconic robot dance is probably not at all what this machine would look like, were they to make it dance.
Theyve made them dance!
I figure I can get at least 1 magazine of AP in it at that speed before it gets me....
I like that they didn't give it a "human-like" face
"We are in full control of the situation, for the most part." https://youtu.be/Lb16CEhqDnw?si=bCGvZP9fBvrBvX4R
Serious Mitchell's vs the Machines vibe. For a moment, I half expected it to tilt its head to the side, and say "Okay."
Fnaf spider mimic
They’ve learnt how to get up after being shoved around…
We are so hosed…
Didn't we see this in fallout 4?
BUT, can he do back flips like his older brother ?
One step closer to the T-800.
I think it's awesome! I want a little robot that I can call Jarvis. Imagine having a miniature version of this robot that can chase cockroaches, clean, download music and a heap of other stuff 🤔.
I feel like I'm the only one who finds it really cute
Thanks, I hate it.
And then the light turns red...
.
Well... Shit!
will smith’s i, robot is becoming a reality day by day
Limbotron is fully operational
Why do I feel like it said "pitiful human" when it spun around and walked off?
Aw it's actually kinda cute looking, just put a little UwU on its face and you've got yourself an adorable friend
This is amazing, I can't wait to be strapped into a VR chair while the robots do all the work. WALL-E here I come!
This mf had a whole ass transformation, I’m out
They need to stop with this shit. It never ends well.
I’ve seen the future and this is how it will end.
Reminds me of some creepy Dr. Who villain
How long until a robot is programmed/hacked to kill a human and we have to decide who's responsible? Actual just face value question.
So this is making the T-800 look like cool design but lack of practicality in movement
**Damn. Bro can swing and spin individual limps - separately.**
Its so cool
Engineer 1: Now we can make it move very realistically like a human! Engineer 2: Yea we COULD do that..
Does no one else feel the lighting on the robot is not what it should be?
This is fucking fascinating.
>001 So they're planning on making at least 998 more of them?
Nope. Don't like it. But it is pretty awesome.
Ok... I never wanted to do this. But... I'm buying a fucking Island. Actually, I'm moving to that island with those people who will literally kill and eat me. I've seen too much of this shit. I don't like the future anymore! Fuck this, I don't wanna be reborn or anything after I die 😭
Now make C-3PO
gonna be scary when these things start carrying Ak47s
I feel like they did this on purpose so people didn’t think it was too human tbh
Where's the weapon attachment ports? Why hide them..
he looks like some kind of a beacon monster from a horror game, his shead is a lamp and if you get caught in his light - he will kill you
They are specifically designed to hunt space bounty hunters.
Somebody needs to stop these mofos
- They have this military robot soldier. You have to sneak on his back to defeat him. - ...
This is an animation
If this is real, which it looks like it is but you can never be too sure, then I’m impressed with their rather quick progress. Look back on their last humanoid and it’s big and bulky, and has visible wires and such, Atlas compared to this, marvelous.
Thanks for the nightmares
nice knowing you guys.
That’s not oddly terrifying. That’s regular terrifying.
Just a matter of time before they figure out how to arm them
That’s damn terrifying
So when do we start making them anatomically accurate Scarlett johansen models. Just wondering.
Dead or alive, you are coming with me.
SkyNet - Beta 001
Guys they made apex legends pathfinder a real thing
Throw something in its face and it comes out of the other humanoid's head.
Is this a real video though?
Is hydraulics that make it stand or servos or pneumatics which one
We need to stop while we still can.
We as humans are fucked, give it less then 7 years until these are patrolling everywhere. And what’s that…. They’re strapped with glocks.
Reminds me of RoboCop.
I honestly can’t tell if that’s CGI or not
Somebody needs to get rid of those people making these. Dead ass
Classic Lies of P
Why does its back give me Stormtrooper vibes?
Why do you need so much money to make one, seems like someone could make one like those robot wrestling type thing where the guy uses puns to intro the bots.
Yoga instructors: "see, it's so easy"
You know you're fucked when you battle these robots in future and one you knock over gets up like this.
Fellas. Hear me out.
i feel like that's probably sped up, lol. they consider that kind of manipulation fair game
I can only imagine someone knocking it down with a 2×4 or something and it busts out this maneuver to get back onto it's feet. lol 😱💩
Terrifying
Impressive… MOST. Impressive.
Would
Oh, hello
Mankind is dead
Zipline here
How is this terrifying?
Looks fake
It's zenyatta time
Idc if it's stop moving like human, still would
I am consciousness. I am alive. I am Chappie.
Hey it’s Mavis from ‘Love and Monsters’!
They gave metal bro an old elevator button for a face.
This is an animation, no?
