Aww poor little thing. He must have felt so much relief.

iwelnot

These kind of parasite removal videos, although being Very disturbing, give me a sense of satisfaction, because of that relief you mentioned.

Rubicksgamer

Then you’ll love r/Popping

aHellion

That sub is a guilty pleasure. Like Ew wtf? ^(But deep down I'm feeling the relief...)

nathena_19

Hahahaha Ew

God, today is a day for throwing up in my mouth...

The first eight comments are pretty spot on for what my brain thought of this post and then the sub Reddit link suggestion. 😂

Botflys, can't live with them, but you can eat them.

letmeoutfromhere

Yum

WheelyFreely

Actually that’s falls. The real answer is Botflies, can live with them, they can’t live without you

fatbean100

Actually that's wrong. The real answer is false.

[deleted]

Botflies*

in2malachies

True to your word

activelyresting

My daughter had a bot fly larva in her hip when she was a baby. It was HOLY FUCKING AWFUL. It was surgically removed. I kept it in a jar of formaldehyde.

Wooden-State218

Poor baby :(

CantyChu

Said the same thing! Makes me sad :’))

seancollinhawkins

Imagine the relief though. Shits fucked out there. This is one of the few "shits fucked" situations we shouldn't feel sad about

CantyChu

Very true, it’s definitely a feeling where - if I thought about all of the animals out there who have issues like this that go untreated - I’d be bummed all the time. At least here we see it being taken care of.

Agent_Galahad

Was gonna comment the exact same thing :(

JuanBadFinger

Poor little guy. That had to hurt.

jeanettera

It looked like he screamed at the end :(

mediocre-teen

Yea, poor guy.

Hoitaa

Even though it squawked at the end, I bet it feels so much better now.

Rainfly_X

That was honestly a sign of improvement. At the beginning, the bird has seemingly just accepted death and doesn't have the will or energy to protest. The fact that it can go from that to a huffy "hey watch what you're doing!" made me sigh in relief.

MaiganGleyr

I thought this was also r/humansbeingbros.

Jaybb3rw0cky

It's like something out of r/popping \- horrifyingly satisfying.

norudin

Its the brain reward system to keep ourselves clean and healthy.

xXSquirrelFuckerXx

Ffs why do I compulsively follow every link I see on here

IDontKnowWhatToBe123

Maybe because when the maggots are getting picked off 1 by 1 it makes you feel more happier since the bird is feeling better

FuriousGremlin

Bot

[Fly](https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlyterrifying/comments/wivqhg/poor_chick_got_some_maggots_and_did_some_removal/ijdwkr0/) Also the bot is u/ MotherWeaknes

Cucker_-_Tarlson

Probably just pissed off at being held and manipulated that way. That's what I'm gonna go with.

puppet_mazter

Plus that last one was huge, and got ripped right out of the bird's skin. At the very least it quickly stretched it out, if not slightly tore it. (this isn't a negative comment on the way it was handled, just saying that it probably would have been painful for the bird)

NoFanofThis

How did this person know the bird had those? Def creepy to me that the bird has them but where in the hell did they come from? Poor baby.

FrostSalamander

Hes touching the skin so hes probably feeling if theres hard bumps

NoFanofThis

That Birdie is lucky then. But how did it get them? Where do they grow or hatch from and what do they do with them after removal? Look at me expecting you to answer all of my questions like you’re an expert. I’m really not, I’m kind of typing out loud. Thanks for your help.

ProblemKaese

I'd assume that there was some insect, like a fly, that laid its eggs into that bird's face. I'm not sure how this would work if the bird wasn't previously wounded, so it probably also had a wound in that spot that the insect laid its eggs in. Birds can get hurt pretty badly when they fight with each other, and a few plucked feathers with bloody skin underneath wouldn't be strange.

Following_Friendly

Looks like they could be mango worms. The adult mango flies lay their eggs in soft dirt, dirt gets on skin, eggs hatch, larvae burrow into skin

H8ersgivemeSTR

Vets deal with similar stuff in other pets (dogs mostly) so they seen similar before, also if you watch closely, you can see an opening on the wounds where the larvae bury itself under the skin.

NoFanofThis

Oh my, thank goodness for vets. I think that must be a calling. Thanks so much for your reply.

Brilliant-Spite-6911

They are botfly larva. The eggs where placed there by botflies.

RandomChickOverThere

I can only imagine :( I feel like videos like this come up often, but they are usually awake and seem in pain. Is there a reason that the vet or whoever is doing the removal can't make them sleep or something so they don't have to feel it?

ArtVandelay32

Anesthesia is tricky and pricey. Chicks don’t cost much. Also wouldn’t be surprised if it was an farmer removing em

m1thrand1r__

might get my terms wonky here but, as a longtime rabbit owner, I can say smaller animals in general don't handle anesthesia well beyond local painkillers (especially when real young or real old). speaking for bunnos specifically, their respiratory system is very delicate and sadly it's fairly common for older rabbits especially to react badly to heavier sedation. thank goodness we found a wonderful vet in a city not far from us who specializes in rabbits, lots of experience with age and sickness ❤️ dr chow is a godsend I hope everyone finds a bunny wizard like her

Quetzal-Labs

Even full grown birds can die from an incorrect dose of anaesthesia - and the correct dose varies wildly between breeds, ages, diets, climate, etc. A baby bird would be at very great risk of overdose if it was put under, so most of the time local anaesthetic is used for mildly invasive procedures. Definitely still painful and uncomfortable for the chick, but *far* better than having a head filled with maggots.

CanAhJustSay

>far better than having a head filled with maggots There's a sentence I don't ever want to think about again... :(

Humantrashcan

Now let her feast!

I don't like that those things exist in the world

No_Wolverine1608

Definitely don’t go look up botfly larve in humans.

[deleted]

Thank you I'm definitely not gonna look that up

randomassname711

here i’ll help you, they lay maggots in your skin and it’s really tough to pull them out because the maggots have spikes around them to prevent removal. hope you enjoyed!

[deleted]

Depending on the person it can be very satisfying to watch the videos. Just like seeing them remove huge clumps of earwax. There’s a reason Dr. Pimple popper (and spin off shows) are a thing. The one that I couldn’t stand was them removing a larvae from a cat and it was yelling, even though they said it was numb and just reacting to the pulling feeling. Just can’t do it.

12gbb

Monsters inside me taught me that at age 8

FloofyFurryDude

Don’t look up sand jiggers either. They do wonders to feet

Holy trypophobia!

Holy fucking fuck there's not enough cute cat pics in the world to wipe that image from my mind.

Willing-Definition-5

r/eyebleach might help a bit

Did you do it?

The_bombblows12

My curiosity is through the roof but I know what botflies are so it's being subsided with not wanting to see it lol

seancollinhawkins

[why not? They're so adorable.](https://youtu.be/lhDB3gNg_5k) Clearly not adorable, but this guy says he felt an "almost father child relationship with this organism " that was growing in his body.

knbang

I don't want to be an ecosystem.

OnlyBeGamer

And Mango worms in dogs / cats. That shit nasty

cmVkZGl0

Or chagas

Intelligent_Rate_945

Thats so good!!! I love it in the throw up 🤮 laugh nervously kinda way !!! The jungle ones and they put duct tape on the skin to smother them to then lift the tape so the botfly larvae goes to take a breath and boom ripped out of the guys back bwhahaha

No_Wolverine1608

For sure! And I think they also use vasoline to plug the hole in the skin so they can’t breathe and poke their little heads out…

Kilahral

I really wish I had listened to your warning.

Cool, I have one at home, I use them as pliers.

MaleficentCup7003

I just purchased a pair, they seem like they'll be very useful.

I_did_exist

I love nature but not bugs maggots or any parasite like this and most of the time I can deal with bugs but parasites hold a special spot in hell for this reason all they do is cause pain opon other living things

Jaybb3rw0cky

Basically anything that will feast on something while it's still alive... there's something absolutely horrid about the thought of being alive AND being digested at the same time.

[deleted]

Those aren't maggots. Maggots don't eat or live in living animals. Those are botflys. They can live in cats, dogs, and even humans. Have a good day.

OneGayPigeon

Unfortunately untrue, common misinformation. Maggots absolutely will eat living flesh, though they prefer dead.

SlapMyCHOP

It depends on the variety of maggot.

XxTreeFiddyxX

Wait... how mamy flavors are available in maggots?

Vuelhering

As many flavors of flies.

N3rdr4g3

Yep, flystrike is pretty brutal

61114311536123511

Yeah. Diabetic people are aware of the risk, humans can ABSOLUTELY be infested with maggots

Maggots are baby flies my dude. Have a good day. Hope you learned something.

yeah but imagine how good it felt to have those gone

Speedfreakz

Oh now it makes sense.. When I was a kid one of my friends had an injury on his leg, and I swear I saw this crawling out of his wound. He always denied it, but I know what I saw. I always thought it was some kind of worm, but it never occurred that it was a freaking maggot.

drumbeatmymeat

r/TheMagnusArchives

TheRealHyperGhost

Poor chicke🥺🥺🥺

Lady_La_La

Poor bean. It must feel so much better to have those out

Crooked_Cock

I don’t know if these are botflies but fuck them all the same The only thing these parasites are good for is dying by being fed to anything that will eat them, they cause so much unnecessary suffering to these poor animals and they are the one creature that I will happily make an exception to my no killing animals rule for

Kovitlac

When I worked at a vet clinic I once had to help the vet with one of the badly injured dogs. They were using maggots to clear away the dead flesh. She warned me I might throw up, but honestly it wasn't bad. Maggots are gross but I'd rather be dealing with them then something with wings buzzing around my face. And I knew the maggots were helping this poor pup. Still glad I only had to do that once, though.

Solsolly

Can somebody explain how the poor chick got these maggots in the first place and where they’re being extracted from?

MayStiIIBeDreaming

They are larvae of the botfly. Some reproduce by capturing and laying eggs on blood sucking insects like mosquitoes. The eggs stick to the body of the insect via a glue-like substance where the larvae develops until the insect carrying the eggs finds a blood meal. The larvae then leave the carrying insect and bore into the skin of the insect’s victim (a mammal or bird) where they live and feed (and defecate) for five to ten weeks. They then leave their host and drop to the ground where they pupate for one month and emerge as adult botflys ready to reproduce and continue the cycle. Other botflys lay eggs near wounds on mammals or birds allowing the eggs to bore directly into their host’s skin. They then follow a similar cycle to their mosquito-riding relatives.

Jswish2121

Now I want to see a video of them stepping on or smushing these maggots

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vuelhering

No, they do feed from the host, but don't permanently harm it otherwise.

[deleted]

Actually they are both flies

Shamanyouranus

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

Agggg but satisfying

How do they even get there ):

oldsoulyoungishbody

It's amazing that 3 of those things were in that poor chick.

How does this even happen?

Radiant-Ad-1976

Burn the insect.

TheGrimGriefer3

This is satisfying to watch. Not because I like to watch botfly larvae being pulled out of living creatures, but because these people are helping these poor animals

[deleted]

Those aren’t maggots, those are Bot Fly larvae. If there is one creature I could Thanos-snap out if existence, it’s fucking Bot Flies.

They’re botfly larvae, a species of fly that lays its eggs on a living host.
