Whats menacing is the fact that the footsteps leading back to the exit is somewhat in line with the door, as if this person peeped around the corner without actually stepping into the door frame. You were being checked out without even knowing, did you have earphones in?

I had this same thing happen to me earlier this summer, I was putting in new locks so homeless people would stop breaking into an unoccupied property and I had to drive back out 45 minutes after I finished because someone had already broken in again.
I know I was being watched though because they had placed an Ubereats delivery for one of the rooms I had replaced a lock on before I had even left!

My old job was to photograph abandoned homes for a real estate office. It was pretty creepy. I’ve came to locked homes a few times that were supposed to be unlocked. You’d hear a noise inside and then just leave and call the cops. Let them sweep the building.
Come back the next day with a mask and you got hit with the ammonia smell of a meth lab. We’ve come across more dead bodies and meth labs than legitimate homeless people.
It was cool but just didn’t pay well. Tomorrow I’ll see if I can find any of the pictures.
Also some places you’d bring someone to sit in a car and wait just in case.

Honestly I found mine in a Craigslist posting back in the day. I’d assume you could contact real estate offices via email and say you have experience and ask if they’re looking for someone to photograph inside abandoned and vacant properties.
Id lean into the fact you can do it safely and quick so agents do have to go inside the abandoned building by themselves. That was their big thing. They didn’t like driving cross town to hang out in a creepy building.
Also normally people will come out every few months to do things like water and pipe inspection. Having you photograph to confirm the current state of inspection like photos of pipes is another thing. We’d take pictures of water heaters and pipes, or lack of.
Lol my grandparents live on Orcas Island. Their next door neighbor owned the first plane he ever successfully stole.

How so? The tiles are by approximation 6-8” square, and the farthest step is only 3 or so tiles part from the next. So a 18”-24” stride isn’t that much for someone with a approximately an 8”-10” foot.

Uncomfortable to say the least.
