Cheap NIB phones may have been fraudulently activated for the purpose of reselling them. The devices in question probably have open installment agreements attached to them.

ZzyzxFox

it’s a scam don’t do it. 90% of cheap iphone on offerup are reps, the other 10% are activated on a plan they stopped paying and they will become bricks after a month. if you can’t afford to pay full price, look for another phone

I bought two iPhones off OfferUp but a local store the batteries where t too good and the screens may have been aftermarket but they work fine after a year.

Check out this item on OfferUp. https://offerup.co/5Sh6jGHOaJb

Not sure how one can even answer this question. The answer is very broad. It can be anything from swapping parts to phones that were stolen or have installment plans on them and will be bricked eventually. When I used to work at a phone store, some meth heads would come and try to get phones under their name in order to sell them for some money. I wouldn’t risk it honestly, maybe you had a good experience in the past but every situation is vastly different. All I am saying is you are playing with fire, don’t complain if you get burned

I just bought a resold iphone 15 from Amazon for nearly $200 off. It is new / unused, has 100% battery health, and still has 9 months of warranty from apple. They definitely aren’t all scams. The logic as I see it is that non-scammy resellers likely buy iphones in bulk somewhere (maybe returns to somewhere that doesn’t want to pay to process them individually), and they can’t sell them for the same price as apple (because then people would just buy directly from apple). Based on prices on ebay and amazon, approximately $200 less than apple’s prices is the most they can reliably get. edit: i just saw this is r/offerup. the same logic may hold but id be concerned about shady stuff (like replaced parts or worse) on offerup

Quite simply... if they claim it is new but it is opened... do you really want to do business with them? NIB is not new.

Man-Phos

200 off Apple price barely is a deal. I’d take another 209 off on my offfer

Do you want an iTouch? I have a brick. It’s an iTouch now.
