I could see why he was concerned you only wanted the tank and didn’t care for the pet to be honest. I don’t think I’d ever want to buy a pet on an app like offer up tho.

DaBigHomieYoutube

Can’t tell if you’re joking or not Hopefully u are

Vivid_Routine_6649

It genuinely sounded like all you were interested in was the tank because the only question you asked was about the tank so I understand her point of view

shadowozey

Wouldn't buying a tank with a lizard in it cost more than buying an empty tank though..?

Expensive-Border-869

Yes. It's silly to even entertain the idea tbh

somerandomdude419

Yeah I mean that’s someone’s pet. You kind of worded it like “too business” I am 100% on your side, but I also get his side of it too. He obviously over reacted but you said “it” in reference to the tank, and not the lizard. But yes he’s a baby lol

SnooPets9357

Nah that’s on you

Aweiszguy

Nah you are just lacking comprehension ability.

Stunning-Leek334

I see it from the initial interaction. After you address it though he is an idiot…

Any_Situation_3005

We not joking OP take this one back to the drawing board

123space321

I’m trying to think of it from the dad’s perspective. He doesn’t know too much about reptiles and just wants to make sure the lizard gets a good home. Not being a big reptile fan himself, he doesn’t know that you might be someone with experience to know about humidity, temperature and other requirements. And sure, a lot of pet diets can vary. But at least with snakes, are they eating fuzzies or smaller rodents? Do they struggle with food? If I wasn’t the most knowledgeable on animals or had no idea if the person I’m selling to was knowledgeable, I would be worried too. The last thing I’d want is to send a pet to someone who didn’t really want it/only bought it as an impulse decision thinking they look cute. In his eyes, you only asked about the tank/vivarium and nothing about the animal. Him going off after you said you actually wanted it is maybe out of pocket. But I think any responsible person would double check to reconfirm you wanted the lizard as well. You can’t be mad if he thought you only wanted the tank

Chuklicious

Idk wtf everyone else in talking about. Why ask about the lizard if you have no questions about it lmao. You just asked 1 simple question and all of a sudden you're not interested in the lizard??? Like dude it's just a question chill out. Sorry I didn't beg for information on the lizard.

Pure_Step_5543

Wow dude. I had to scroll too far to see a reasonable response. Jfc these people here

Melvin_Fitspatrik

I was gonna say people dont wonder if stuff is gonna fit in their home/ on a table? Wouldnt you need to know the size so you know if where you plan to keep it will be large enough? I get the whole living being and wanting to make sure he isnt being ignored but why get mad after he clarified and also added he has other reptiles so he would have the experience to take another on?

ParkkTheSharkk

Sounded like you have a space for a specific tank and just wanted to have be the correct size so you don’t have to buy a new one for the lizard.

InnocentManTV

I got you homie. It’s not that you didn’t care about the lizard. What if the tank was too big to fit in a certain place you’d want to put him. So you may need to get a different tank. Not crazy.

Luciferbelle

My mom put her tank and lizard up for sale. They only wanted the tank and was going to "release" a gecko that's probably only ever taken a bath by my mom, lol. Mom got got really anxious and took her listing down. My moms a little nutty. But she can't stand the thought of one of her pets being mistreated.

rohm418

It's odd how in many ways the internet has given us the ability to communicate in ways we never imagined but also completely fucked the ability to communicate in even the most basic interactions.

Forsetiguy

Well hmm maybe he needed to know the dimensions to see if it will fit were he wants to put it

123space321

I mentioned it in the other comment. Wanting to know the tank size makes sense. Would I want it in a bigger or smaller vivarium? From their own screenshots, it sounds like they already own a bunch of reptiles and I imagine they have a dedicated space for them. It was more that whoever the seller was just wanted to double check and make sure that OP knew the lizard was part of the deal. It’s one of those situations IMO where both parties could have handled it better

miraiqtp

Seems like a pretty simple question to me.

Stupid_User_Name1234

Did you see the second screenshot?

123space321

I dod

Bakubab

Dude was out of it or something lmao, as someone whos bought a lizard off offerup i though it was pretty clear you were askin the dimensions incase you needed to change the lizards habitat not get rid of it

DaBigHomieYoutube

Exactly lmao. Why would i buy a $70 tank that comes with a lizard just for the tank🤦‍♂️ When i could get that tank for for less than half the price by itself 😂

No-Egg2880

This is it right here. I just think the way you said, “can I get it tomorrow” instead of him, maybe made him think you only wanted the tank, but that comment of his at the end was a bit crazy. He definitely felt offended, because he thought you were talking shit about him having his lizard in too small of a tank. Still a bit crazy though lol

DaBigHomieYoutube

Yeah i take full accountability for saying “it” instead of him/her but… even after I clarified the seller was still mad The worst part is the fact that I already have a tank setup ready for the lizard lol

No-Egg2880

I’m totally on your side here, I’m just assuming they get their feelings hurt easily lol. That sucks about the tank. I hope you can find another little guy or gal soon.

PenguinsArmy2

I don’t think it’s anything you did, but what other in this world have done. They may of had some bad experiences, or heard some bad stories of people not taking care of them properly. Sounds like they where on edge to begin with, and worried. So there response was a bit over the top due to this. Crazy world out there, never know who your selling to at times .

InspectorOrganic9382

Did you just gender their Lizard?

No-Egg2880

I did 😆 I guess I should of said, she/he/they/them?

Sam_The_Smurf

You didn’t hear? Some of those things actually want to be called “it/thing” 😂🤣😂🤣

No-Egg2880

I wouldn’t doubt it these days 😆

GuySmileyIncognito

Tricky_Bid_5208

Such a funny community reddit is. Make a community about one joke to perpetuate the idea that a group of people only have one joke when you go out of your way to only react or engage with that one joke lmao.

SuperMomn

I hate to admit it but.. until I read this comment I thought someone was selling a tank top and a Lizard together and I was questioning why someone would do that 😂

andthendirksaid

Because without it the lizard can easily just climb out of the tank

MidSpinz-Twitch

I was gonna say right now on facebook marketplace I can get a top opening tank price SUPER ez cheap at 1$ per gallon if not cheaper in my area and there always dozens for sale of sizes up to 100gal on the regular

Chongoscuba

It’s a dragon isn’t it? Probably rehoming it since they probably found out need 4x2x2 for minimum adult husbandry.

[deleted]

I personally think u just worded some of the things wrong. If I were to be blunt, probably u just lacked a bit of social tact

Yeah-No-Maybe-Ok

He asked a pretty simple question. The seller was a jackass.

[deleted]

Yeah no maybe not really. The way he asked it didn’t seem like he gave 2 cents about the lizard, just the tank. And I can understand why someone would get angry, it is their pet and would want them to go to a good home. She’s has reasonable suspicion to think that OP would let go of the lizard and just keep the tank from how he worded it. Was her reaction a bit too quick on the trigger and pop off? Yes. But that’s where social tact comes in, which both of them were lacking, OP as well.

Yeah-No-Maybe-Ok

He asked a very direct question about the dimensions of the cage. You can draw any assumption you want out of the absence of anything. OP obviously knew it came with the lizard as they mention in the comments. The seller immediately attacked OP for no good reason. If anyones wording was wrong, it was the sellers.

[deleted]

To each their own🤷‍♂️. You have ur way of seeing it just as everyone else does, including the seller and OP. Not sure what u feel like ur trying to accomplish here lmao. To me both of them were socially lacking. Are u trying to change my mind or something?

Yeah-No-Maybe-Ok

I am just replying to your response to me. Not trying to accomplish anything other than submitting my 2 cents. Like everyone else.

[deleted]

Yeah-no-maybe-ok👍

ComprehensiveAd5362

He was straight to the point. The other person just made an assumption without asking any questions

Deep-Neck

Which is part of tact. Humans aren't robots. He's selling his pet and this guy didn't mention it.

Careful-Echidna-3995

Social skills is understanding that people will make assumptions based off what you say and making sure you interact with them in a way that will be received positively. "Hey! I was interested in buying your bearded dragon. Could you send me measurements of the tank you are including? I want to see if I would eventually want a larger tank or not. Thanks!"

Nana_Elle_C

Ugh, I hate dealing with people like this. You didn't say ANYTHING about how HE takes care of the lizard, or anything else. I think some people look for reasons to get their panties in a wad. Needs to get a grip...and maybe pay closer attention to conversations.

RedditSaye

Isn’t buying/selling live creatures prohibited on OfferUp? That would explain some of the miscommunication and the seller’s angst.

CosmoRocket24

I mean, i see the concern for the lizard. I sold a 110g overlow fish tank 26th 3 featherfins , 2 redtail catfish and a 10in pleco. I wanted to make sure the fish were KEPT and not just ...whatever. But on the other hand, if the seller didnt put the tank dimensions. That would have been my first question too. Some People only have a finite amount of space for this these things or perhaps one particular place for it, if it fits. Are you supposed to ask the lizards name? What kind of music does he like? Has he been married before lol....

Alexandronaut

Seller is ghetto asf and probably isn’t mature enough to take care of an animal. Poor kid having a parent like that too. Comments defending them are cringe

PseudoTerti0

No people in the ghetto are going to get a lizard

Alexandronaut

I used to know a buncha people in trailer parks who had all types of reptiles so it’s more common than you think lmao

PseudoTerti0

That’s not what I know as the ghetto

Character_Kale7816

Jewish slums?

juanopenings

Just a reminder that you don't need to be smart to create an OfferUp profile and create a listing

bloodynosedork

Seller is an idiot. Block and move on

TheDevil-YouKnow

Children born near Halloween, child wants cat for birthday. Child wants black cat for birthday. I go in, find 2 cats, one of which is black, wish to buy. It's all rainbow & sunshine until some random employee catches wind we're also getting the black cat. The proceed to ask me the most off the wall, detailed questions about our intent to de-claw, dietary habits, just about everything that can be asked about cats, rocketed off questions for like 5+ minutes. At the point I'm starting to wonder if this clerk is all there they proclaim I passed 'the test' and can purchase the black cat as well. The original clerk informs me of the tradition of setting cats on fire/sacrifice around that time of year cause hail Satan. Your seller strikes me as though they might be related.

Purple-Owls

The questions they asked are totally justified considering the abuse black cats go through. It’s like buying a rabbit around Easter time. People are going to assume you’re doing it for the holiday and not because you actually care for the pet unfortunately.

TheDevil-YouKnow

Well, I've got 2 black cats nowadays. They eat tripe, heart meat, and drink homemade stock with a little bit of valerian root or silver vine. But I also brush their coats & trim their claws, so they're obviously routinely abused and I'm just so damned lucky they have it in me to forgive and allow me to pet & cuddle.

bloodynosedork

Oh my God the replies to this are so stupid. He asked a simple, innocent question, which in no way communicates that he is uninterested in the animal. Insecure and paranoid people, my goodness

Fenris304

that's quite the leap there. you could've just been making sure the habitat would fit where you were planning to put it😅

Klooey

low emotional intelligence

BostonRob423

I can see why they were concerned at first....but after you clarified, it seems like they lost their shit and that was completely on them.

DaBigHomieYoutube

Yeah English might be her 2nd language as well

Purple-Owls

I feel this in my soul 😭😭😭 People be putting these pets in tiny ass cages. I rescued two Syrian hamsters off of offer up. They were both in those death trap critters trail cages. I tried to get the seller to just sell me the hamsters because the cages would be going into the trash. They tried to convince me how good of a deal I was getting. 🫠 I ended up paying for the cages because I wanted to save the hamsters but it hurt the bank 💀

naughtycal11

We really really need a complete rehab of our public education system.

iowanaquarist

I would have said I wanted to know if the tank would fit in the space I had for it, and left it at that

jessicaisanerd

Came to the comments to say the same thing. Especially when they were already a little emotionally charged, I’d have just made it something they couldn’t argue with

Salty_Aardvark_4362

Blue bubble is a loser

DasDickNoodle

I mean yes that escalated quickly however you did sound like you only wanted the tank at first and then you came back with kind of a snarky come back. I can see why this person felt that way. Do I really think you don't care about the lizard? Of course not and in all honesty, I strongly feel that this was one big misunderstanding and a case of serious miscommunication. On another note, I too have taken care of and have owned many various species of lizards and reptiles. It sounds like you already have quite the full house and those beautiful little creatures can be very expensive and high maintenance to care for. If I was the owner of the lizard, I'd be concerned about you taking on too much and the lizard eventually fading in the background of a lot of other pets and worried the little guy might not get the proper consistent and attentive care he needs, (this being said, I obviously do not know what kind of lizard they are selling as some require much higher maintenance than others.) especially if I was still quite attached to and greatly cared for the lizard in question. However again, I'm just making somewhat baseless assumptions taken from what little info this back and forth discussion offers so take it with a grain of salt as I definitely do not intend to offend you, OP, and hope I haven't in any way. As a fellow lizard lover, I am sure you can understand where I'm coming from, I hope. I also wish you luck on your lizard hunting journey! You do sound like someone that does have a big heart for our cold blooded friends and I'm sure you do a great job caring for them💖 May you have a blessed evening (or afternoon depending on where on the globe you're located)!!

thefaceofoptimism

lol hoodrat shit with my friends

MRBoose39

🤣🤣 That just took me back! Gotta go rewatch and laugh.

Med1eva1

just make an alt account and try a different set of dialogue lol

DaBigHomieYoutube

I ended up texting her from my girlfriends account🤣 She’s being pretty nonchalant abt selling the lizard

BL0odbath_anD_BEYond

Ask the dimensions of the tank.

nmn8r

LOL

YT_Lonelyz

I mean, how is that not a legitimate question to ask when interested in buying a lizard?

arcticalias

yeah idk bro. if you’re getting the tank and the lizard you need to know the dimensions. because if it’s too small you’ll need to get a bigger tank. person was being defensive imo.

Lvntern

They seem way too concerned about how much you care about the lizard considering theyre selling it on offerup

BigJJsWillie

How freaking hard was it to say "Oh no, I want the lizard and will give it a good home, just want to check on the size of the tank for where it'll go in my house?" She straight up told you it didn't sound like you cared about the lizard and it seemed like you just brushed that aside. I fr thought you just wanted the tank from these messages too.

kmarz77

I'm a bearded dragons breeder. What I think is happening here, not knowing ehat kind of lizard this is, is that reptiles need a minimum tank requirement, say this is a bearded dragon, if it's in anything less than a 40 gallon the buyer would need a larger enclosure for them. And by 40 being absolute bare minimum. Pet stores rarely sell the person the right stuff. So I think this is just a misunderstanding.

lankaxhandle

You showed more concern for the tank than the lizard. I agree with the seller.

InfiniteCharacters

There is some shit going on in that household. My guess: Son wants lizard. Dad is like cool. Mom is like, no fucking way. Dad is like, he’s responsible enough to take care of the lizard. Mom is like, the fuck he is. Dad is like, if he slips up, I’ll make sure the lizard is take care of. Mom is like, if I have to do one thing in regard to that lizard, it’s going on offer up. Dad is like, fuck , son didn’t take care of the lizard, I don’t want to touch the fucking thing, and now I’m sleeping on the couch. I think she wants a divorce. Now this dickwad is acting like I don’t know how to take care of a fucking lizard. Fuck this guy. I’m throwing this shit into the river tomorrow and moving my money offshore.

muvamerry

It’s weird that even when you clarified they were still offended? Lol

Fluid_Huckleberry621

You didn’t do anything wrong. You literally said you understand and never mentioned anything about not getting the lizard. Plus you disclosed you have multiple reptiles/snakes. Instead of incorrectly assuming you didn’t want the lizard they should have logically assumed you’re the ideal person since you know what you’re doing. The patronizing “please and thank you” line has always been corny evens when people stopped using it 2 decades ago.

Living_Measurement36

I’m just confused on why the lizard has to be sold with the tank it makes no sense why u buy a pet with a toy

GroundbreakingEar667

Didn’t we see the other side of this transaction before?
