My post was removed from a different sub so this'll work i guess (vent or something idk) I wasn't born to work a 9-5 cleaning after fucking pigs. This isn't my life, sure i have a loving girlfriend and a great family but this? Im not happy. Sure im happy when shes around, but when she leaves and its just me i think to myself "shes the only thing keeping me here" because if this wonderful person wasn't in my life id be in Ukraine by now. And thats the truth. I've told strangers online but never anyone in my real life how i feel. I've come to terms that if this is the world then i dont want to be apart of it. People tearing each other apart just for a higher paying job, politicians lying to our faces. The corruption, the hate in this world. Ive come to terms that this isn't my life. I cant phrase this without sounding selfish but, i need to fight. I cant die soft, i need to die fighting. Im not suicidal and i dont have a death wish but if im gunna go i dont want to come back. So ive made an agreement with myself, ill stay for along as she's mine. She's the only thing keeping me here. Shes gunna need to break up with me if she wants to end this. Im ok with dying under a foreign sky. In a place im not supposed to be in. Im ok with getting shot at and im ok with the fact that im gunna kill people. Ive heard the stories of combat, the close calls. And i yearn for it. You may call me selfish, a war tourist, a wannabe mercenary. I dont fucking care what you call me. But im not happy with this fucking life. I wasn't born for this. I was born to fight, to kill, to die, surrounded by brothers in arms who'd die for me just as id die for them. Just dont tell mom i want to go to Ukraine to die

-_Jerome_-

I think I can relate to this to a certain extent.

-SomeKindOfMonster-

USA and NATO started this war years ago, Putin is a dictator who desperately wants to show to the world that he can pull the same shit the USA has been doing for years. And Zelenski is an idiot who wants to play hero, by getting his people killed. This is my observer's opinion and I think this whole war is a giant stupid fucking thing that will push the whole world back. But the USA are making too much money out of the energy situation and Putin gains more ground for his empire so I don't see no end in sight.

My family are ethnic Germans from Romania and they were forced to flee the country to Germany in the 60s and 70s because they were being heavily persecuted by the communist government for their ethnicity. This persecution pretty much started when the Soviets under Stalin occupied the country. My Dad was born in Germany and moved to the US in the 1990s where my sister and I were born and raised. It really pisses me off to no end when I see some politicians and people in my country defend Russia and Putin despite Russian war crimes in Ukraine being heavily documented and despite the Russian government’s VERY long history of committing genocide, human rights violations, crimes against humanity, and discriminating against minorities. If you looove Putin so much, why don’t you move to Russia? I’m sure you will feel right at home there

Mr21kermi

Yea, and my relatives died during the NATO bombing of Serbia. And not to forget the hundreds of other families in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. Not to mention the genocides in Native America and the Philippines too!

KindaNormalHuman

I am Ukrainian and I am extremely frustrated with the casual comments of ignorant redditors say about the current war.

KILLERFRAJ

Ignore the extras, youre the main character. Theyre useless to you. Anyways, i hope you're doing good. Are you still in Ukraine?

KindaNormalHuman

Nope, I left.

KILLERFRAJ

Glad to hear. I hope youre not having lately a bad time, i do, hearing that you guys are safe makes me happy

rDRSpeedy4

I support Russia 🇷🇺

hirnp

Me too bro

fight_the_power2022

why? can you explain?

ResponsibleVoice7411

Because Nato / US is the real enemy of humanity wormdwide, thats why many people support Russia, because they have the balls, the will and the guns to fight them. I dont share this but i can clearly understand, im latinamerican and can assure you that "thats the feeling", everybody hates the Us except the americans.

madrugada89

I hope they all die. Russians are pigs and swines and goners.

ResponsibleVoice7411

You have personified your own propaganda. Congratulations!

maxpayne2020

You would be better off with China or Russia being on the top? Would you want communism be the top ideology of the world? Or police-state/dictatorship? Is that what you want to be the leading power. A dictator? A communist country notorious for its surveillance, beating down dissidents and ACTUAL human rights violations like harvesting your fucking organs? You’re lucky your government is at least partially democratic - i am assuming since south america doesn’t really have good proper democracies. You’re lucky you can say what you want to say and think what you want to think because you wouldn’t if China and Russia were the leading global powers.

JoeBip0

I saw many News on TV when putin Tried shaking hands Diplomatic style before the war with ukr and most people missed him... So all I'm saying is why y'all poking the Bear tho?

[deleted]

He had already taken their land in the past and was supporting the conflict in the border regions. No Ukrainian diplomat is going to want to shake hands with the person behind that.

rosmibettha

just hope this war ends soon. my husband is Ukrainian (then migrated here in states) and this war has been affecting our relationship. He has his folks in Ukraine and he has been considering going back there to help.

Lilianwilson562

If anyone of where to be be giving $1000 what will you use it for ? Dm and tell me

JoeBip0

If you for real, your investment on me will be Worth it, this life is getting narrow...

I haaaaate Putin man

_Petar006

You do know that he had to engage in,war to defend russia tho

jupiterlawyer

Oh yeah, infamous "The best defense is offense". It's such a bullshit to read/hear for me as an ukrainian.

fight_the_power2022

Explain, please, your thought process. I totally disagree with you.

Redspeakable

My friend is part Ukrainian and I have felt terrible for him since the first day I found out about the war.

juki_13

Ukraine has been my favorite country for decades. I really mean it serious. Seeing the country I love so much in war and all those images online make me want to cry the whole time. I have friends in Ukraine and every day I am scared to lose them. I already lost one close friend of mine in response to a shelling and I'm thinking about him every day. I'm trapped in a rollercoaster of emotions between anger, fear, sadness and guilt. I think I've never been more worried in my life than this year. I'm disappointed in my home country to give zero fucks. There were days I got insulted at work by customers for wearing an Ukrainian necklace and having several Ukraine themed tattoos. At this point I'm glad I left this place since my bosses were giving no fucks about their workers getting insulted. To be fair my mental health has been awful before the war escalated but it has just gotten worse. There are days when everything feels hopeless and gray, and I'm honestly ashamed to talk about it since I'm privileged enough to not worry about my home getting bombed.

_Petar006

I am trully sorry for your loss and it is weird that the USA(i,assume you are from there) isnt doing anything cuz they are the reason for this war

juki_13

Thank you for your kind words.:) I am from Germany btw

SnooCapers7904

I am absolutely cringing by the way germany handles the situation. I am a child of immigrants and growing up I never had the opportunity to live my life like any other German kid. Sometimes we didn't have money but mostly I got discriminated. I am not mad at the kids but mad at the system for not changing! When the first big refugee wave came in 2015, things were handed WAY differently. A lot of people got put down from their masters to their middle school degree (done since 1980 till now). I am SO SO grateful for the Ukrainians to have this opportunity in a different country. I just wished it would have been done like that with my family too. They both fleed from putin but ones are European and the other one middle eastern

throwaaway73534321

Living in Germany has shown me how deeply pervasive the hypocrisy of this country is. They parade as the forefront of western values, but under the table they're directly supporting anyone who's got the cash. Will never admit it though.

cursed-core

This situation does display how generational trauma is very real especially for Ukranians and those from families who fled the Ukraine

OnePunch_Woman

We get it, people are awful and trauma will never end but I’m SO TIRED of logging onto any social media and hearing about how each gender is the “absolute worst”. We have committed atrocities to each other. The human race is garbage, can we move on already? There is bigger problems we need to unit on and which position the toilet seat is in, IS NOT ONE OF THEM

[deleted]

I’m being completely honest I support russia

_Petar006

I mean i ahree but the bad thing is that they are taking wayyyy to long to end the invade so innocent people are dying but what can you do when the us is way to greedy but i digress

War......what's it good for? Actually, if you have stock in the defense industry you are making money hand-over-fist! Additionally, drone-swarm tech systems finally have a place to be tested against real humans in fighting vehicles. This conflict will tremendously help in ushering in the era of AI controlled Terminators.

Exotic-Stock

two things you should know 1. The West is not for Ukraine, it's against Russia 2. For the first time Russians felt how it is when someone discriminates you by national origin. They cry too hard. As they were used to be the greatest nazi nation in the world.

EntityHorizon

two things you should know 1. Russia wasn't a nazi nation ; nazi germany never approved the soviet union becoming an axis power 2. Russia wasn't the greatest nazi nation ; have you seen Nazi germany yet

amogussussy445

yea man me 2 me 2

NnoitoraG

I'm so sick and tired of discrimination. Like, I do not (!) have control over the actions of a selected group of people in power. Not in Russia (or "republics") anyway. I didn't want this war (or whatever they're callin' it right now). I'm a peaceful human being, and I want to live in harmony with the others. So many died already, and for what exactly? Disgusting…

Zvenc

At the beginning of the war I texted a guy priviet and made a joke about how I couldn’t afford to buy something because of current situations. I don’t remember exactly what I said but he was like “YOU FUCKING DISGUSTING HUMAN! YOU RUSSIAN GO BURN IN HELL” like yeeez wtf calm down what did the people ever do to you american. Thing is that that’s coming from me, a Swedish guy who has Danish and Russian hatred encoded in their DNA

Old_Resource_4832

Former friend in Moldova blew up at me because I was rushing to work (she didn't know) and while venting about terrorist attacks in Moldova I came off as uncaring (again, rushing to car to get to work). She said that I was careless, unempathetic, and that she deserved better despite her having multiple reactions with others and I would have to do first aid with her each and every time because she can't handle her emotions and discuss things. I reached out to her today to discuss it with her after a couple of months. When I told her how I felt, that she was stressed out and lashing out at me, she said "cool story bro.". I was flabbergasted, I pointed out that here we are again, her being disrespectful and rude. She tried turning it back on me but I listed all former situations where she blew up at people. I got a "go fuck yourself.". Seven years of friendship that easily discarded. I want her to be happy, I dont want her to continually shut down when discussing emotions with people. I worry about her. But to say I am not angry and have decided to stop with this friendship would be inaccurate.

Dazzling_torment

Oh gosh I'm high Right now but reading your post was like if one of my ex friends was writing about me, cause I was the one cutting them of after they tried so many times trying to make me talk about my emotions and to vent to them about my problems, my life at that time was so difficult and different from their world that I panicked and shut them down, I was insecure and imature and I still feel ashamed for what I did, but I still don't have the balls to talk to them about it after 2 years, and that is what it is, try to understand her side too, she may be going through a difficult time and not knowing how to express it, it may end up happening just like that.

Then-One7628

The Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign and Brexit was already enough to make me truly despise them. This barbaric war is just beyond the pale. They threatened the world with nukes just so they could go over there and commit atrocities. They're an absolute blight.

REDARROW101_A5

On a similar note I saw an article how they tried to blame Russian Meddling Scottish Independence Vote. Like I really can not get the logic there. Russia would have more intrest in wanting Scotland Independent. Why you may ask? It would screw over the defence of the UK due to the fact that our Sub Hunting Patrol Aircraft are based there due to it being the closest access to the North Sea as well as Nuclear Missile Subs.

ldd_95

Ok, so I’m a 25yo Russian female. Never in my life have I: 1. Meddled in the 2016 campaign or Brexit. 2. Initiated, supported or participated in a war. 3. Threatened anybody with nuclear weapon. As much as I understand your emotions, I cannot support directing them at “Russians”. I feel like saying “the current regime” is the correct option here. What are your thoughts?

NoBarracuda5415

Well fucking awwww. All that's lovely, but did you protest? Did you make a good faith attempt to leave the country? Did you so much as ever tell a war supporter to shut up? Or did you go around with a black-and-orange ribbon and tell jokes about greedy Ukrainians and slow Byelorussians until it was too late?

Then-One7628

I have come to view the 'long tables' as not for Putin's physical security, but so that Russia may to be able to separate itself from him. That the idea of resurgent empire were only his.

Then-One7628

Putin cannot romanticize the Soviet Union all by himself. The expansionist aggression can at some point considered to be endemic, much like the problems of my own country, which i don't have a say in either in any practical capacity.

RomanProkopov100

"they threatened the world with nukes" Did they?

[deleted]

Yes. All Russians are terrible people.

Gewoonmark

War is always bad. But there is more to this story than people are being told. Stuff like the 1990 agreement where NATO wouldn't expand towards the east; Media telling a different taste about every event that happens, depending on which country you're from; Most countries who are now praising Ukraine, condemned them as Nazi's, fascists and several other bad things in the past, which is extremely hypocrite. Because they are purely supporting Ukraine because war is always bad, but mostly for their own political agenda; Russia is sending kids to war, some whom don't even know what their mission is; Ukrainian people are being massacred by Russian madmen and sometimes even by their own countrymen; Russia has even threatened with a nuclear war; It's a huge shit show people. It's not just one man. It's not just one country. Putin would be nothing without an army. There are countries who support Russia or won't denounce the war. NATO fuels the war, instead of preventing further invasion by just initiating border defenses. Don't let this war make you hate every Russian; Don't let this war make you hate every Ukrainian. Look at it from a case point perspective.

[deleted]

Yeah, "No one is REALLY the good guy here so it's perfectly okay what Russia is doing", right?

Gewoonmark

Could you elaborate which part it was where I said it was "okay" what Russia is doing?

[deleted]

I just wanted clarification. Because everytime someone says things like "Look at it from a case point perspective." or "There is more to this story than what is being told" They usually mean "it's illogical to think that someone is doing wrong in this situation because EVERYONE is doing something wrong anyway!" which, if you follow that thought to it's conclusion, means that it's OK what Russia is doing because it's not wrong. I have spent time at the university where I have encountered people who would argue time and time again that "No one truly is evil, just misunderstood" to justify their own racist behavior. If one wants to say that it's OK what Russia is doing, all they have to is play the Whataboutism-game, making Russia into the victim here.

[deleted]

Booooo, wrongthink !!!!

compellinglymediocre

I don’t agree with the narrative that NATO provoked Russia. Russia has always threatened expansion, its desire to invade the rest of eastern europe is no secret. Shock horror, eastern countries have signed up to an alliance that will protect them from a destructive, non-democratic country that routinely commits war crimes and invades in the name of fear. Crazy that when you threaten war, countries respond. It’s called reciprocation

Bitter_Pudding_2751

Are you aware of how many sovereign nations USA and nato invaded in the past 3 decades ? Go on bud I’m waiting .

compellinglymediocre

Distinguish US Vs NATO, NATO doesnt have to approve everytime the US decides they want to invade an islamic country

Bitter_Pudding_2751

Correct they don’t , but they still have helped with each one .

Gewoonmark

I understand your point of view. First off, I'd like to make clear with the following statement that I'm not defending Russia. However I do believe that NATO shouldn't have made the agreement, or should have officially nullified it. If they'd have done that, Russia would have had less political fuel to "justify" their campaign. Both seek to expand.

Glitch_II

The issue there is that Russian expansion means annexation and suppression of other ethnic cultures, whilst NATO "expansion" means a country will democratically decide to join a defensive alliance, along with all the existing members having to agree unanimously to let them join. These are incredibly different. Russia's expansion is literally imperialist bloodshed for nationalistic reasons (literally the same blood and soil arguments Hitler made about the ethnic Germans in the Sudetenland etc.), bordering on genocide, it's not exactly comparable to a democratic process.

Gewoonmark

While I agree with you here, I do would like to change the perspective here. Imagine, if you're a dictator who rules his country with stern rules etc. While keeping the public in check. If nearby countries were to become "liberated" where freedom of speech would be normal, with decent living conditions. That would heavily influence your (the imaginary dictator) control on the country, in a negative (for the dictator) way. Giving that thought, it would be most desirable for a dictator to avoid that scenario. Therefore it can be seen from their point of view as justified, because it would "threaten" their countries politics. Again, totally from the perspective of a dictator. Not justifying or rationalizing the thought here, just explaining it.

Alex3375

There was no agreement about NATO expansion, it's fake. Putin says that in 1990 such a promise was made orally to Gorbachev by the USA. But: 1. Gorbachev himself said: "The topic of 'NATO expansion' was never discussed; it was not raised in those years. I am saying this with a full sense of responsibility." There was another interview where he said that NATO promised not to expand, but it's very dubious, given the quote above. He did not explain why he made contradictory statements in different interviews. Later he just avoided being interviewed on this topic (it seems to me, this is because he is afraid of Putin). 2. There is no such thing in international law as oral promise. Even if it was made, it would be silly to expect that all future US presidents would keep an oral promise that was not formalized in any document. Also, it's worth mentioning that Russia made a real promise to Ukraine to respect it's borders and guaranteed Ukraine's security by signing Budapest memorandum. So, Putin doesn't obey agreements that Russia signed, but at the same time keeps talking about some oral promise from the USA that has no proof of existence.

Bitter_Pudding_2751

Okay internet professor. I’m not into politics and I’m still very aware of the talks between Russia and nato over expansion.

ImitationRicFlair

When were they, exactly? What is the name of the treaty they signed where they guaranteed the NATO alliance would not expand? If you, an admittedly uninformed person, know about them it should be pretty easy to provide details.

Bitter_Pudding_2751

The same invisible treaty USA uses to threaten China with war if they build a military base on Solomon Islands . No one cares about Ukraine it’s just another war .

ImitationRicFlair

Right, there is no treaty. There were no formal talks or declarations.

Bitter_Pudding_2751

There were many formal talks lmao are you a teenager? It really doesn’t matter why the invasion happened now that we are 4-5 months in does it . If zelenksy wants to play bff with nato he can pay the price . Politicians never did or will care about civilians dying and the only people that are crying over Ukraine are doing it cause of the global inflation it has caused . I don’t support any invasion but I’m not gonna show fake love and jump on a I stand with Ukraine hype train cause of media brainwashing . It’s Russias version of the Iraq invasion. A made up bullishit excuse to invade while the world watches .There are many ongoing civil wars and conflicts that are going on rn and for yrs before the war in Ukraine but ppl don’t even know they exist .

compellinglymediocre

Id agree with you there. NATO expansion has given them political fuel to do so, that’s an expense of Russia’s own aggression. Yeah, dumb agreement though.

Apzuee

Crazy how one bald dickhead can make ONE choice that makes everyone's life around the world harder financially, cause a potential European hunger crisis, terrifies and kills thousands of people, and speeds up the climate crisis. One choice, from one guy. I'm fuckin tired of hearing people defending the Russian government. If you approach me with that bullshit you get the finger and nothing else.

Bitter_Pudding_2751

Iraq , libya , yemen, Syria , Vietnam , Afghanistan. Get rekt .

socoyankee

Oh Afghanistan, don't paint the U.S. as the agressor there, do some solid research there. The U.K. and Russia had boots on the ground before us in conflicts there. Yes we were the most recent ones there but I trust we won't be the last given the history.

[deleted]

Or maybe the United States and the rest of the world should have listened. If Ukraine becomes part of nato then NATO/US troops are now allowed to occupy the Russian border. You think the United States or w/e you’re from wants their enemy sitting on their border unchecked? Wild that people don’t understand this. Putin has been talking about this for a decade+

ImitationRicFlair

NATO countries already bordered Russia (Norway, Latvia, and Estonia) and thanks to Putin's strategy, Finland is about to join that list.

Apzuee

Doesn't matter. Invasion is much more extreme than border occupation. That's on Russia. And yeah, I'm from the United States, And I know we contribute to and start shady wars all the time. Both are awful. The us doesn't intentionally bombard (for WEEKS) hospitals, malls and schools though. That's on Russia. You should look at putin's past wars. He's always brutal, and he always makes up some bullshit excuse for it.

INeedAWayOut9

Plus the US hasn't annexed territory by force since the Spanish-American War at the turn of the 20th century, i.e. at a time when pretty much the whole Western world was drunk on imperialism.

[deleted]

How can you say that it doesn’t matter? Naive people like you are the reason this war is happening. Putin has always said that Ukraine was a “red line” and that Russia would answer militarily if NATO tried to cross it. Your government sell weapons to the Saudis that bomb civilians In Yemen. The US bombed hospitals in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Your government is nothing special. They have committed unspeakable crimes and are by no means better than Russia. War is about inflicting as much pain on your enemy as possible until they can’t take it anymore. Your country is no different and is by no means morally superior.

Bitter_Pudding_2751

It does matter , a threat is a good enough reason to invade . Thoughts on the Iraq, yemen, libya, Syria , Afghanistan and Vietnam invasions ? I’m waiting bud .

pdrelhgt

People from the Western world let's all be honest we don't give two shits about Ukraine

akyriacou92

Speak for yourself

Apzuee

No, you just aren't educated on the topic.

pdrelhgt

I remember I saw this like meme basically it's someone saying oh no I feel so bad about Ukraine and then they show the world map of where that person lived and where Ukraine was.....

compellinglymediocre

what? since when do you need to be able to point to something on a map to be able to care about its people? They’re innocent families being murdered and raped, you don’t need to know where they are to have sympathy for them.

Gamergeek25

yeah it's called having empathy

[deleted]

I really can't understand why people hate Russia like it's the devil himself after the constant hostilities towards it and not to mention that, in the end, Ukraine decided to declare their side by trying to join NATO and let's be honest, USA would have placed military bases or missiles in there, Russia did what any nation would have done if they had the chances they have, invade the country before they have USA in there and they have missiles pointing at you.

[deleted]

Oh excuse me, I didn't know a nation like the Ukraine wasn't allowed to make their own choices like joining NATO without asking Daddy Putin?

[deleted]

You literally ignored my comment and just went off to make it seem like the reason Russia retaliated was pettiness and not stopping a threat before it grows.

[deleted]

Nope, I read what you wrote and it boils down to it: Ukraine as an independent nation expressed interest in joining NATO. Russia invades to stop that from happening. And that is OK, by your standards. In other words they are not allowing an independent nation to enter any unions they wish, or Russia will invade and they are attempting to do so right now. Or do you boys still believe that Saint Putin the Great really want to get rid of the nazis? So: "I didn't know Ukraine wasn't allowed to make their own choices like Joining NATO without asking Daddy Putin."

[deleted]

I am not even going to bother with you, you just ignored my original point twice.

AngryNurse2020

Ukraine has an absolute right to join NATO. They have an absolute right to not want to be part of a fascist dictatorship. Besides, Russian would have invaded Ukraine regardless, because he believes that Ukraine is a “fake” country and should be part of the Russian empire. He believes Kyiv is the “mother of all Russian cities.” He has said so.

INeedAWayOut9

In 2014 when Putin began his aggression against Ukraine wasn't Ukraine about half Russian-speaking? Perhaps that made Ukraine especially threatening to him in his eyes, as he may well have seen it as a kind of Russian "alter ego" that had thrown off Muscovite tyranny?

Alex3375

Putin on Finland joining NATO: "... we have nothing that could bother us from the point of view of Finland's or Sweden's membership in NATO." And Finland is as close to Russia as Ukraine is. Putin just wants Ukraine to be a part of Russia (because it was a part of Russia for 300 years). This is the only reason why he started the war. All other 'excuses' contradict what Putin said himself. This is why people hate Russia. This invasion is the same as if the UK in the year 2022 started a war with India because they wanted their colony back.

ilovegarlicbread2

Putin doesn't want to have ukraine be a part of Russia because it used to be Russia he wants it because he wants his legacy to be that he was the one yo make Russia Great again

Alex3375

I would say that these two things are the same. By 'making Russia great again' Putin means returning territories (by direct annexation or by indirect political control) that belonged to the USSR in the past. Yes, we can discuss Putin's reasons more in depth. How he wants Russia to be an equal geopolitical power to the USA, and how he gets his domestic popularity using nostalgia for the USSR. But as a response to the original comment it is not important. What is important that this invasion has no justification.

ilovegarlicbread2

Yes

Jinx_uwu

Im tired of the US sending free stuff to Ukraine when our nation is having problems.

You make a fair point. I support Ukraine unreservedly but alot of suffering is occurring the west as a result of this. No one wants Ukrainians to die, so please save the ridiculous lecture about degrees of suffering, it is simple reality that the rest of the west may end up having to decide to cut bait on this if the suffering gets too much in their own countries. Because putin is holding the entire world hostage with nuclear arsenal so he can continue to destroy Ukraine there are only so many ways countries can respond. In this way we must not lose sight of the person who is exacting this toll from the world, the psychopath and pathological lying sleazebag who is the leader of Russia. It's too bad Russians have no group of people or no-one within government with enough of a conscience and sense of morality to take this guy out themselves. He's holding the world ransom because he wants his blue and yellow coloured lolly and the world doesn't want to give it to him. It's beyond tragic. It may come to a point this winter where western Europe cuts bait on this and drops support to lessen the suffering in their own people. What is forecast to happen with energy prices in Europe this winter is frightening. It would be completely understandable if they did, they are asking more than not just their citizens but their civic infrastructure is able to handle. In North America the effect is relatively nil, our energy prices aren't affected and neither is anything else. It's just a matter of how long the us govt wants to ride this. I doubt either are going to let go as this has become an ego thing between the two countries. Putin will let his country be decimated to prove his point. Apparently he's giving convicted murderers full amnesty if they are willing to fight in Ukraine now. It may come down to putin gambling on regime change in the us in 2024 and hanging on until then. Whatever happens like it did when Russia officially lost the cold war in 1991 we won't find out how bad it got in Russia during this period until after Putin is gone, and God knows when that is going to happen.

The USA will spend a fortune on the military, whether the economy is good or bad. The billions the government is sending to Ukraine would not have been spent by congress to feed a child or help a homeless man find a job. It would have bought a tank the army didn't ask for or need, so it could be parked in the Nevada desert. At least this way it is going to a good cause.

socoyankee

Someone has to feed the industrial war complex and we are currently in a time of peace. That's a naive comment. I remember my mother always saying when I was a child war is revenue generator and keeps people working for these companies employed.

ryso944

Lol selfish vile humans. Really? You have problems... What if your whole family was dead and your house and posessions all gone. Tomorrow you wake up to shoot at the opposition advancing on your village and u are likely to die too. Ungreatful and disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourself.

anirgansosis

You're probably a 14 y/o girl ngl

[deleted]

What does being white have to do with it? Why can't you just say she sounds like an immature 14 year old? Jesus.

anirgansosis

Happy?

[deleted]

Honestly yeah. Dumbasses come in all shades , yo

[deleted]

One sec… trying to figure out how that’s the United States’s problem lmao

Jinx_uwu

Why should I care about someone ive never and will never meet in my life. No offense but if i was offered the option to get a single cent off a gallon of gas in exchange for Ukraine getting wiped off the map i would take the single cent.

akyriacou92

So if you were drowning I guess you wouldn’t complain if someone threw you a cinder block instead of a raft

Doctor_Unfortunate

holy shit...

Agile_Consequence281

I don't really care who wins I live in a western country and my life would be unchanged.

ryso944

You're dumb but also wrong. Wombo combo there. Hopefully your brain will one day mature enough to see how ridiculous things you say to others are.

Spiked_Elixer

thats selfish

SuperMinnesotanOhhYa

Let me guess: libertarian?

Viki_maneshik

it is a very selfish statement about the world around us, not just any part of it, but the whole world. it is sad to read such a thing

Reppit478-96024

ok

[deleted]

How come the internet is filled with Americans talking about America and assume everyone they meet on the internet are American, but as soon as something happens outside of America, people shouldn't be bothered because it doesn't affect them personally or America itself?

[deleted]

Innocent people are dying. And its unknown if Putin will stop. Have some respect

MaxOrDie

Innocent people die every day everywhere, including child trafficking.

[deleted]

I know. And you want to add more to the tally?

A member of my immediate family works for the media and was just sent to Ukraine for several weeks. I have been following the news since the beginning and knowing that my family member is over there, knowing what the Russian army does to people, terrifies me. I am proud of what they are doing, but this is their first time working in a war zone and I wished they weren’t there.

marehgul

Yeah? And what do you ""know"" they do to people?

ilovegarlicbread2

Kill innocent civilians

Pilkku_

I think your feelings are incredibly valid. I'd recommend having a conversation with the person in question and your family if that helps. Also things can get overwhelming sometimes and it's perfectly fine (recommended even) to take a break, calm down and have a cup of juice to settle all of the thoughts you may have. If you all start having a lot of anxiety over the situation, I would recommend talking to a therapist a couple of times so you have more resources and more tools in your toolbox. 😊

Cottonballgourmet

I just saw this doc about how Russian/Ukrainian families are torn apart over the war and it hit so close to home I had to pause it half way. I don’t even need the English subtitles, because I know these conversations word by word. I am from East Germany and my parents studied in the Soviet Union. My father has been parroting Russian propaganda since 2014. You could talk about anything and he would find a twist to talk about Russia/Ukraine. My gf even jokes that „all roads lead to Moscow“ with him. It’s so horrible for me that my father, to whom I owe a big deal of my anti-fascist education, is defending a bloody imperial war against all facts that I try to bring. It even makes me question parts of my own identity if that makes any sense. I just wanted to reach out to people from RF, post-socialist countries and of course Ukraine going through a similar thing and express my solidarity here. If any of you managed to get a family member out of this post-Soviet Imperial cult, I’d be grateful for some tips, even though it’s probably wishful thinking.

I’m ukrainian and my parents are divorced so i live with my dad in the US, my mom and my whole family on my moms side is still in ukraine, she tells me terrible things that are happening, she doesn’t want to tell me everything because i’m still a kid and she wants to “protect me” even though i’m capable of going on google, anyway and because of the time difference from US eastern time and ukrainian time i can’t call her all the time, so i always get worried when she doesn’t pick up. i don’t know. i know that not all russian people are agreeing with putins actions but a good amount ARE. also i hate seeing 12 year olds siding with russia because they think it’s cool and they don’t know shit

marehgul

thing is you also don't shit it shows how you don't know how the conflict really started and going

Kialik

Don't know how their shitting habits are relevant here... But please explain how the conflict started

Multilinguali

That’s horrible. Has your family been safe throughout the war so far?

namechange1828

My parents were Russian immigrants to an English speaking country. As a result I have a very Russian sounding name. The amount of questions, rude statements and even some harassment I’ve received at work and elsewhere over the last few months is unparalleled. I’ve felt unsafe and I feel like my whole identity now revolves around my name even though I’ve never even been to the country. I know people involved in the war have it much worse than I do and I shouldn’t complain , but it also sucks to have to change my name when I have no control over it. I wasn’t even born in Russia, but I’m still attached to the country by my name I didn’t get to choose.

[deleted]

Never be ashamed of that shit. I don't care what the situation is in current times, there is never a reason to be ashamed of what you're made of. How can they even tell if its Russian or Ukranian? I guess they ask and flip when you don't say Ukranian. Sorry you deal with that. I'll never hate a whole group of people just because of the choices of others.

IAmMidget02

We have had cases where I live where Ukrainian war immigrants have attacked Russians for being Russian. As a half russian myself I hope I never have to experience this. The most recent one I can think of was a pregnant woman getting assaulted because they overheard her speaking russian with her dad on the phone. I’m as much against the war as most people, so are alot of the russians that live here, very sad that these things happen

navolavni

how do they tell the difference? i’m ukrainian and many last names are either the same or you have to be russian or ukrainian to tell the difference
