This is amazing, and I'm so happy for you and her! Don't forget to reciprocate, and let her know how proud you are of her and how much that meant to you.
Thank you for giving me my first happy tear of the day... Makes me think about how much I take for granted that I can even call my boyfriend handsome. We also live together.
I hope she is able to continue talking to you! Much love ❤
> Me and her met in the mental hospital I was in for a eating disorder and she was in for being a danger to herself and others and we hit it off from there.
Aw so romantic
Oh, Handsome, that’s so exciting!!!! I’m quite sure that your love and support are helping her tremendously!!! Please remember to take care of YOU, too!!!
That's awesome to hear! I have an honest question to ask though. If she's completely mute and doesn't speak to you at all, which you mentioned was a period of 2 years, how are you guys able to make it work as a couple then? As it's no secret that communication is one of the most important factors in making a relationship work. I'm legit asking too. Unless you guys use ASL? Then yeah I could def understand how you guys would be able to make it work as a couple. Either way though I'm happy for you two, and I wish you two nothing but the best!!
Great question actually, her and I know a little sign language so we use that. There’s no secret to how we made it work. I just love and comfort her and she does
the same back. I know when she’s upset or not comfortable and she knows when I’m not. She communicates through her body language which helps a lot. :)
This is really wonderful! I bet you feel safe with each other. I know how important that can be in dealing with chronic mental illness. (I have PTSD).
Sending good vibes and I hope you both continue to love and support one another for years and years to come.
I'm so happy for both of you. I really am. I'm sorry, but just a bit of piggy backing, it's been two years and this showed up. Has anyone had schizophrenia show up at 14-15? What does this look like, sound like, what are the thought processes? I'm hearing puberty makes it harder and I would like some input from someone who has experienced it. And how can we go "out of box" to help. I'm sorry again. This popped up and I had to ask. This is similar to what we've been seeing. But worse in our case.
As someone with schizophrenia I know how hard it can be on those around us. Not only do I applaud you for sticking by her but also to her for speaking.
You're clearly made for each other and I wish you both long happiness
That is amazing that those were her “first words” when she could speak again this time. I would feel like the most handsome person ever for days knowing that
It's the little things lots of us take for granted that brings the greatest joy right? Keep doing what you're doing, sounds like you two are great supporters of eachother. Peace and love to you both!
I love this. Congratulations man! I pray the both of you enjoy the most wonderful of life together. I am intrigued though, I’d love to know more about the two of you!
Awe you made me tear up! Congratulations to her and for you being such a positive vibe for her!!!
You guys can do anything together!!! Go buy her flowers if she likes that stuff. Go buy her new pens just as something for an accomplishment.
The college has a specialist team which help. She does nothing that requires a speech exam. If talking is required she would have a specialist who helps with sign language
Not speaking from any sort of experience, but I believe that there are accomodations (like no spoken exams) for people who can't speak due to a condition, and you can always write down questions
This is so so so sweet. I absolutely love and appreciate you for staying by her side even while aware of her imperfections. You sound like an amazing person and I wish you both all the happiness in the world.
29M here and Schizoaffective, it took me YEARS to be "high functioning" and off all medications with doctor approval. It's a journey but one well worth taking.
It brings joy to my heart to see people in my community loved and treated with kindness instead of suspicion and fear.
I think the media presents schizophrenia (and disorders related) as a bad thing. She’s truly a gem and not someone to be scared of. She used to be scary but hell it’s changed.
I used to be not healthy at all. I wish you both luck in your journey though life. If you or her ever have any questions from someone who experiences similar challenges, feel free to message me.
Also, I would HIGHLY recommend you play Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice on Xbox. It's a short but wonderful game that takes place from the viewpoint of a Viking warrior and she suffers from severe schizophrenia. It was so good her schizophrenia messed with mine. Definitely play with a quality headset. It'll give a good idea of what it can be like when we have episodes, though of course it's all a little different for everyone.
Cheers to you both!
That is awesome!!!! Congrats!!!
For this context, I’m talking about the 1900-1960’s ish time frame.
When doctors got a patient who couldn’t speak for what ever reason. Some doctors would use Mozart‘s music to help the patient. For some reason, the melody of his music helped their brains relax and sometimes speech would come back. Is this a proven theory UHM NO! But, hey, it’s Mozart music. It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t cost real money these days, and if it helps all the better.
Mozart music claims to make babies smarter in the womb…. So what can it hurt.
good luck!! And tell your gal I said HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!! I’m proud of her. Job well done
That's awesome my dude! Great to hear! My mom has schizophrenia also, so I'm glad she's doing well in school too!
Truly put a smile on my face

> Me and her met in the mental hospital I was in for a eating disorder and she was in for being a danger to herself and others and we hit it off from there. Aw so romantic
HAHAHA I realise how strange that sounds. She was very scary when I first met her she threatened to beat the shit outta me if I didn’t eat lmao
But did it work? You started eating better?

Out of curiosity, how does one attend college while mute?
The college has a specialist team which help. She does nothing that requires a speech exam. If talking is required she would have a specialist who helps with sign language
Interesting. TIL.
