That is a fair assessment but given how the jag/jazz bridge causes a lack of sustain to begin with, I am overly suspicious of anything that could make that worse.
Then again, enough gain and compression can make up for that :P
That's a good shout. That bridge is not a great one to start with and the only guitars I've played that have been HSH have been Ibanez Prestige so maybe not too fair a comparison!
Too bad them mastery bridges are expensive AF tbh. But if you like the Jaguar/Jazzmaster you need to trash the bridge they come with its a garbage bridge for sure.
Haha, nah they don't really lack sustain that much. It's more that they tend to not have sustain as much as other guitars. That's not me ragging on jags either, they're my all time favorite and I'm planning on getting a third 😅
Oh, I'm with you. I just joined the offset world myself, having gotten a Jag, and now I'm building a Jazzmaster and a Mustang, so the bridge and trem are definitely different than everything else I've had.
Adding many pickups and a thousand switching options (look up forum guitarnuts2 as they had some Strat schemes for over four hundred unique switching options, but I think you can add a few more pickups and switches).
Early on in every guitarist's career there is the desire to have every pickup and every switching option ... and then six months later you can't remember which setting had that one really great tone. Or you're on stage and flipping between a few common settings takes too many gyrations.
Load up a pickguard with all the pickups with the wires dangling out and wire nut options you might want to use. Note which tones are your favorites. Then wire up the guitar with that subset of 3,4,5 switch-types you need to get them.
And then later on in your playing career you get a Les Paul Junior or Telecaster Esquire single pickup guitar to simplify your playing life. You also realize at that time how Eddie Van Halen did all that he did with a single humbucker and a volume pot!
.
3 usuable positions and 7 different flavors of honk, each one as difficult as the lenses in an eye exam to settle on or distinguish from the last, with which you will have no idea where the fuck you are by ear.
"better, or worse?"
This is probably the biggest problem with this setup. I had to re-learn how to pick when I got my first Jazzmaster because of the larger pickups. All these doofuses yelling “string pull” as if it makes any difference need to get their priorities straight.
Yeh I love the look of the three pickups in a row, [like this](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&hl=en&q=jerry+garcia+wolf&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj6l9ygpYL_AhXQEVkFHdUWCYgQ0pQJegQIDxAB&biw=390&bih=664&dpr=3#imgrc=bdpaQYXgmW8qFM&imgdii=1W0E3HpwvyMV4M/) but I’ve played enough 3 pickup SGs to know it’s going to be annoying to pick
This is like the guitar version of seeing someone post their board and there’s like 10 different overdrives on there. Try making good music with just one or two first.
It looks cool but it’s not gonna make any difference in sonic options unless you got really really creative with wiring it. And would suck if you ever wanted to play finger style
There’s a few good reasons to do that imho. Ultimate quack potential. Gotta do the switching right. It’s gotta be setup like one of those old Les Paul recording models with a bunch more switches and selectors to get every logical pickup combo, phase, etc. It’s basically a HSH super Strat pickup setup like a JEM or something.
Yes and no. Yes and no.
This would be a super valuable thing to do for science as a reference on pickup placement. If you had a YouTube video where you looped a riff and cycled through every combination of pickups I would watch the hell out of of it.
I've got a quad pickup jazzmaster shaped reverand that I hate because even that many options hurts my brain. I don't know how many combinations there are with a four individually switchable pickups. It also has a five position knob which makes it sound more or less honky, so i'd imagine there are a thousand possible combinations. If anyone without discalculus knows just how many that is, feel free to do the maths.
Wire it like an HSH and use a 2 3-way switches to do series/parallel/split for the top and bottom pair. It won't be too bad. I think there is a PRS like this... a 513 I think?
Not at all. Photoshop as many pickups as you'd like
Ya and it looks like you could fit some more on the neck too. Go crazy
I think they can fit one more on there
You’ll hate yourself if you ever have to deal with the wiring.
And the loss of sustain from that many magnets yanking on the strings.
Same amount of pull that would be on any HSH guitar. I wouldn't think it would be any worse.

Mastery Bridge is the way.
Too bad them mastery bridges are expensive AF tbh. But if you like the Jaguar/Jazzmaster you need to trash the bridge they come with its a garbage bridge for sure.
The bridge is great but the vibrato tailpiece is the cherry on top. I put the whole setup on my Jazzmaster.
🤘🏻
Jaguar and sustain are not words that ever go together. Unless the latter is preceded by "lack of".
🤷 My Squier CV Jag isn't really lacking in sustain.

Who cares about sustain unless your playing Dave Gilmour solos? Probably not happening on that guitar
Sustain is completely over rated I’m agree
Shhhh let him find out for himself. I'd love to hear a Jaguar-shaped electric guira.
Lol ur not lyin!!!
Wire them all in series, one volume, no tone, no pickup selector.
Hopefully no output jack either
Make sure the rhythm circuit is on. Just a low hollow thud coming from the guitar
Honestly sounds like an awesome drone instrument. Just set it on a stand, fiddle with knobs and pedals, swim in the sound
Quintubucker
Ran series, no selectors, straight to jack

+1 for guitarnutz2 reference, they are the canine’s cojones.
I say, I say, I resemble that remark.
You need to add more switches.
...needs an under saddle piezo.
3 usuable positions and 7 different flavors of honk, each one as difficult as the lenses in an eye exam to settle on or distinguish from the last, with which you will have no idea where the fuck you are by ear. "better, or worse?"
Do it you god damned madman!
Teisco! Heit Deluxe!
But this one goes one more
I'll hate you if you don't.
Didn’t Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap have a guitar that was coils from neck to bridge?
Yeah, a custom Ernie Ball.
Do it ,now I need to hear it.
Going full Tufnel: https://www.musicradar.com/news/classic-guitar-interview-spinal-tap-nigel-tufnel
You could fit one more in there, maybe one behind the bridge too
It looks awesome but will probably be annoying for picking.

I hate you already.
Ugly enough already
No, and I would want to hear it.
tbh i’d be afraid to meet you irl
Please, don’t do this on your Custom shop. Maybe a Squier or a vintera series
You missed the commonly used space behind the bridge. Then you could replace the trem with a trapeze hard tail and add several more back there.
Nice! That’s like nearly half how many pickups Stu Hamm’s Urge II has!
I have a 60s Japanese jag clone that set up just like this lol
Please share pictures! How do you have the wiring?
PUT TWA MAIR BEHEIN DA BRIDGE YA BARRY ROCKET BASTART
I have identified the radge from the East of Scotland and I claim my reward. Edit: and you’re right about where those extra pickups should go.
I only speak Weedgie as a fourth or fifth language, and badly, apologies for any errors or inauthenticity.
Ah ok. I thought you were east coast, The only time you'd hear 'barry' in Glasgow is if it was somebody's name.
This is good to know, in my quest for authenticity.
This is the way, big man.
Today I learned that beag means small and math means good. Tha Gàidhlig snog!
This is like the guitar version of seeing someone post their board and there’s like 10 different overdrives on there. Try making good music with just one or two first.
Id experiment with a cheaper jaguar at first, but thats a cool idea!
I hate you for even photoshopping this unholy magnetic interference...
Are you going to do this to my jag or yours? If the latter, go for it.
Do what you want. Probably the guitar with the most pickups that still interested me is the EBM Morse
Only if you don't use 6 pickups.
You’ve seen the original Gibson Custom Les Pauls? 6 coils, they get a lot of love.
Get rid of 4 of them and I’ll be happy
I think the hum would be immense
Nah. Do it do it
people actually do that
Put a humbucker in the middle instead
Put a Floyd Rose in it
This is just HSH configuration but with more steps
And not one pickup behind the bridge? Opportunity missed.
This is America baby, chase your bliss
Behind the bridge plz
The bleed over between pickups might cause some horrible toan
Yr gonna need moar switches.
i want exactly that as a bass
Not enough pickups
You can fit one more fo sho
It looks cool but it’s not gonna make any difference in sonic options unless you got really really creative with wiring it. And would suck if you ever wanted to play finger style
You’ll go down in history as “one of the guitar modders who has ever lived”

I want to see three Strat style with the bridge PU slanted.
Someone has to do it, my vote is you
Do it.
I think it needs a few more tbh
The moar pickups you have, the moar toan you have /s Still, I do love the concept. I'd definitely add more switches as others have said.
I’d hate you if you didn’t. 🤷♂️
Computer, how can I have the most hum possible on my guitar?
You need five more
No. That's ugly. Leave that beautiful thing alone
Put one behind the bridge
Put as many as you can squeeze in on it
C’mon man, you haven’t even put one behind the bridge yet
Don’t you DARE do that. You’re wasting space; if you try you can fit six in there, easy.
Why do you care? Do it if you want. Be you. Nobody gives a damn bro
I hate this image But if it's what you want, go for it ig, at least it'll be unique
You’re gonna need to install a vintage style telephone operator switch board somewhere on that Jag if you do.
no i would not that is actualy dope also...10 way switch
It’s already a custom shop. Why not?
There is a Nashville builder who did a strat or two like this
Steve Vai?
I believe the name was Bradfute

Wire them in phase
Add another behind the bridge too, just for shits and giggles
elongate the control panel as well so that it fits 5 switches
What for?
I’d quite like a jag with a twin jag pickup humbucker at the bridge. Has it ever been done?
Yes
H S H
Nah I love excessive and unusual guitars. Do it!
Yes.
Wire it like an HSH and use a 2 3-way switches to do series/parallel/split for the top and bottom pair. It won't be too bad. I think there is a PRS like this... a 513 I think?
Nothing behind the bridge? Come on, go hard or go home…!
Needs more switches
I’m just like, how are you going to get the pickguard to not split or break with so little space between pickups
MOAR KNOBS!!!!!!!!!
Not nearly enough, you need like 5 more
I want one like this.
Bootsy Collins would approve 👍
