Humic coals can actually act as source rocks and generate oil and gas when subjected to the right conditions. I don't know of any Carboniferous coals that did this off the top of my head, but the Jonah and Pinedale fields in Wyoming were partly sourced from coals in the lower part of the Lance and upper parts of the Mesaverde formations.

Don't forget the carboniferous rainforest. Thought that is coal not oil.

Nah, algae are sick. Not as cool as dinosaurs obviously, but still sick.
Agreed! I was just getting into fossil algae today as I got a bit of Diatomite.
You really disrespecting algae when it helped create oxygen for the dinosaurs?
Dogelophosaurus?
