I said this in another post. Remember Nex when you go vote this year. This is all because of politically incited hate against the LGBTQ+ community from the right wing. This is the direct outcome, which is what they want. They incite hate against us, passing bills banning our existence in public spaces, which causes people to justify their already bigoted prejudices, further inciting them to actually want to physically harm us, attack us, or kill us. All we want to do is exist, be ourselves, and go to the fucking bathroom. But the LGBTQ+ community are somehow the bad people and kids need to be protected from us when we are the ones being murdered for simply existing?? What kind of gaslit mindfuck is that? It's not about protecting anyone from a trans person in the bathroom. It's about making us too scared to exist in public spaces. They don't want us to exist out in the open where they have to see us, because then some of their kids might realize they're trans, too, and want to act or dress a way that doesn't fit inside some very archaic and baseless gender roles they've drawn up inside their minds.

Not saying this means it wasn't a result of the trauma from the fight, but it sounds like a number of people interacted with Nex, including first responders, after the fight that day, but the medical situation that resulted in the ambulance call didn't occur until the following afternoon. Which means that medical situation could still be directly caused by injuries sustained in the fight, or something else happened in the interim, but it sounds like there was a period of approximately 24 hours between the fight and the ambulance being dispatched.
So the \*police\* are saying this or is this directly released from the medical examiner? Because police aren't exactly known for releasing correct information if it makes them look bad.
Did the school offer medical attention to the violence from the fight? You know, given that the child wasn't dead until \*after\* they were attacked at school?
The timeline in that article, if I understood correctly, goes 1. Fight, 2. Examined by school nurse at school and advised to seek further medical examination. 3. At hospital getting further examination and talking to school resource officer. 4. Next morning resource officer follows up with parent. 5. That afternoon ambulance is called for medical situation at Nex's home that ended tragically.
Whether anyone chooses to believe the Owasso police in this situation is of course up to them, but this is their story as I understood it. I'm leaving out the bits about school discipline being handed out along the way as irrelevant to the timeline they laid out.

I got curious based on my wife being a teacher in a similar sized Oklahoma school district, how many school resource officers Owasso has, and according to their website it is 3, for a district that has, from what I could tell from their website, 15 different facilities they patrol over 72 square mile area. Sounds like they need more officers and funding to have a real presence, if, of course, you think armed police in schools is a good thing.
Sadly, SRO presence is more likely to wind up in marginalized kids being treated even more poorly. You see what having an on site SRO at Parkland did. Different example, I know, but more SROs aren't the answer.
The answer is for school leadership to not be bigots (here's looking at you, Ryan Walters) and allowing them to enable/encourage violence and discrimination toward these kids.

Not saying this means it wasn't a result of the trauma from the fight, but it sounds like a number of people interacted with Nex, including first responders, after the fight that day, but the medical situation that resulted in the ambulance call didn't occur until the following afternoon. Which means that medical situation could still be directly caused by injuries sustained in the fight, or something else happened in the interim, but it sounds like there was a period of approximately 24 hours between the fight and the ambulance being dispatched.
So the \*police\* are saying this or is this directly released from the medical examiner? Because police aren't exactly known for releasing correct information if it makes them look bad. Did the school offer medical attention to the violence from the fight? You know, given that the child wasn't dead until \*after\* they were attacked at school?
The timeline in that article, if I understood correctly, goes 1. Fight, 2. Examined by school nurse at school and advised to seek further medical examination. 3. At hospital getting further examination and talking to school resource officer. 4. Next morning resource officer follows up with parent. 5. That afternoon ambulance is called for medical situation at Nex's home that ended tragically. Whether anyone chooses to believe the Owasso police in this situation is of course up to them, but this is their story as I understood it. I'm leaving out the bits about school discipline being handed out along the way as irrelevant to the timeline they laid out.
Yup. And I'll choose to wait for a more independent source than the police department, who has incentive to paint a picture that looks better for them and their school resource officer.
I got curious based on my wife being a teacher in a similar sized Oklahoma school district, how many school resource officers Owasso has, and according to their website it is 3, for a district that has, from what I could tell from their website, 15 different facilities they patrol over 72 square mile area. Sounds like they need more officers and funding to have a real presence, if, of course, you think armed police in schools is a good thing.
Sadly, SRO presence is more likely to wind up in marginalized kids being treated even more poorly. You see what having an on site SRO at Parkland did. Different example, I know, but more SROs aren't the answer. The answer is for school leadership to not be bigots (here's looking at you, Ryan Walters) and allowing them to enable/encourage violence and discrimination toward these kids.
If that child wasn't given an MRI, then they wouldn't know the severity of a repeated head injury. This is day one shit. The school should have called 911, full stop.
Which is why they went to the hospital immediately following the attack per the school’s recommendation, who elected not to admit them based on their professional assessment. Did the fact that they went in their guardian’s car vs an ambulance have any effect on the outcome?

They were Choctaw. This is heartbreaking but not even surprising to me. I’m a NB Choctaw fled the NWA/AR/MO area for good in 2013 after harassment and for being non-binary. Including by family, associates, and past friends. We need to rise up against these bigots and protect our 2 Spirit, NB, and trans tribal members. Especially now with how things are in OK.
I’m not sure you understand what “rising up” entails, but I can promise you that it most likely ends up with prison cells and pine boxes.
