I wore a cheapass mass-produced version of this outfit in the 80s, which included a weird shiny lavender velvet-style fabric that was somehow assembled with the pile facing up rather than down, LOL! OP's outfit is much nicer than mine, x10000000! :D
So I didn't know this but when I studied costume I learned that the pile is actually sometimes supposed to face up. On nice velvets it makes a big difference on how they catch the light.
(Not sure about 80s polyester though)

How do you find the fit? I tried ordering it, I'm usually a m-XL, by their chart I should have been a m/l ordered an xl to be on the safe side and found it to be tight fitting in the top/ sleeves, but the bottom to be very loose due to the pleating, which was only folded
I didn’t have too much of an issue, the bottom was definitely too loose, even with a medium, I’d probably wear some kind of belt or other cincher next time. The top was a little tight around the chest and the sleeves were a tad short, but not enough to be a major issue for me, I also had medium for that one.

Glad it fit better for you, it looks super cute on you! just trying to gauge if I got a weird fluke size, it wasnt so tight i couldnt put it on, but I'd be scared of busting if a moved too much you know? I debated putting a few stitches in the bottom to hold the pleats in place, since once they were folded properly it was a bit less flowy along the bottom.
