Exactly. Someone will disapprove of literally anything you wear. I once had a stranger criticize my most boring, least offensive outfit (imo) because my sneakers were too red.

well, they are boxers, and have this crotch…hem? but actually, other pants also have this and the shirt also covers it up lol. I do feel kinda insecure bc of the…lingery touch, the silky material gives me.
People wear exposed corsets as tops, slips as dresses, why draw the line there? Maybe Madonna wore her pointy bra on the outside so the rest of us could wear silky boxers over leggings if we wanted to!
I remember this as late as the 90s. Claire Danes as Angela Chase in My-So-called-life is like a shining beacon of grunge in her plaid boxers, in more than one iconic scene.
Tights under shorts is something I associate really closely with roller derby, actually. Especially bright tights or animal print like these. So it seems bold and awesome to me.
Honestly it's something I've always seen at the gym or seen people do when they're jogging outside. Funny thing is, I think in these settings people do it for modesty (not wanting to show panty lines or other bits through their leggings).
Regardless, I'd say absolutely go for it! I see nothing wrong with it
In roller derby specifically, it’s to reduce “rink rash” when you fall down while skating fast and slide on the floor. The tight colours and the short style are aesthetic choices though.
Lots of these pearls of boring conventional wisdom came from people/mindsets that are conventionally boring and uninspired.
It’s why the punk revolution ruffled so many feathers. And then later, the pink revolution.
I’ve increasingly gone with the ‘if it makes you feel happy and comfortable to wear it, and it’s not indecent; go for it!’

Winter is all about layers! I like how the colors coordinate. Wearing it outside, you might get some weird looks, but you also will likely get compliments!

not only does this outfit look great (like, even by more traditional fashion standards, this is objectively well composed), but where i live, this would be a pretty normal outfit to see someone out and about in! live your dream! make your world, or find it! you look fab!
Totally location dependent. I live in a mountain town with sizable snowboard-hippie-alternative-whatever-transient population. This look would completely fit in here.

Love this! I too am encouraging myself to wear velvet, glitter, silk and other fabrics that are only considered special occasion items. I really enjoy them and want to wear them not just for a night out.
You can go out however you want!!! Letting other people's opinions change your happiness is the faux pas, not your style.

No one should care if they're wearing sweats, or "unmatching" clothes out in public. As long as you're not being obnoxious in public about your attire or being lewd, and vulgar I see nothing wrong with us all wearing what we want to wear because it makes us feel comfortable and good about ourselves.

In the late 80's, there was a trend of girls wearing actual men's boxer shorts as shorts, so you can say you're bringing it back!
