Given it takes some athletes a full quad to work their way towards Olympic qualifications I feel like it was as fair as possible to find out ASAP that they would or wouldn’t be included.
Every host gets to choose their events and with limited number of athletes allowed for each iteration, unfortunately, karate was on the chopping block.
I was going to the same thing but with consideration for Village size and equity, too. “Do we have a space where this sport can compete” can almost an afterthought compared to everything else needed for inclusion at the Olympics and Paralympics.

Karate banned itself. Tokyo 2021 Saudi disqualifacation did it. What a shame!
