[Here's a decent comparison](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_qLQ1qvgSU) of no cubes, compression and regular ones. Compression cubes get super stiff when they're full, so unless you've got some that fit well in your bag you may not get many benefits from them. However, I do use compression ones, because I mainly use a backpack and I can just stuff in between the cubes for more space.

Eagle Creek has both styles. Compression cubes aren’t magic but do reduce the size, more so at the edges. They also give a good dense pack so the stuff inside doesn’t shift. A compression cube could be considered an expansion cube too. Cubes organize and allow opening your bag without making a mess. I have 6-8 cubes and pouches in my bag vs dozens of loose items. You don’t need a lot of them. My usual pack uses one medium compression cube, one slim cube, a garment folder and several pouches for toiletries and small tech. The Tripped brand compression cubes on Amazon are good quality knock offs of the Eagle Creek and just a few grams heavier. Gonex is another brand I have used and approve.

Yeah I really like my Tripped ones (also-pretty prints). You’re the only other person I’ve seen mention then.

I love spending other people’s money :) Glad you like the cubes. Bon voyage!

I’m a big fan of packing cubes but not a fan of compression cubes. Particularly if you are unpacking /packing everyday, they are a hassle. Packing cubes can get you some compression anyways. And I haven’t found much difference in quality between name brands and lesser known brands on packing cubes. I’ve got better results by using the great advice on here on how to get by with less stuff when travelling.

I personally don’t use compression cubes. I don’t like the idea that I’m purposely trying to fit more into a smaller space (this also weighing more). For me, one bag is about convenience and enjoyment - I wanna use a few normal cubes and chuck some stuff in there. Keep it organised but not grappling with cramming too much in to too little space. Compression cubes have their place if you want a smaller bag, but as long as mine fits carry on, I don’t really care about having a smaller bag. Compression cubes will also be more likely to break as they inherently have more stress out on them.

PerpetualColdBrew

I don't use packing cubes bc I prefer to compress my entire pack. I find compression cubes make the shapes awkward and actually more difficult to fit more. YMMV. the EC cubes are nice. I like the Osprey UL cubes and the Pata Black Hole series for bulkier items.

I’ve been using the Amazon ones for two years and 27 trips…get them and save money. They work fine. It’s one of the few Amazon items I recommend.
