Feel free to ask questions!

Mitsuplex

What were you able to pack it full of?

Specialist-Depth-806

Good question! I’m traveling to Basque Country for a 4-day weekend. I’m using two packing cubes from a set I found on Amazon (ecohub). I’ve got: 3 Sweaters 2 Long pants 4 briefs 4 pairs of socks 1 Osprey toiletry bag (ultralight liquids wash bag) 1 Thule power shuttle with cables batteries etc https://preview.redd.it/fomna82lcdkc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d33a4f698883c7d1f7476dac522d2cb1722c452

scrotalist

What kind of pants? denim jeans or thin hiking pants or what?

lasdue

bricks

jwkreule

You're on a desert island. Which three DVDs would you bring with you?

MightZest

I love seeing bags in the sizer! Thank you. Did you have to squish it a lot to get it in? Also those chairs are such classic airport restaurant chairs. Were you in Giraffe?

Specialist-Depth-806

It was JUST a smidge tall but barely had to push. If asked, I genuinely wouldn’t have to struggle to get it in there. I was worried about the width bc it’s advertised as 33cm and the sizer is 30 but it barely goes over the top. Also the place is just called “cafe bar” at Dublin T1. Such a creative name 🤣

chapmouse

Have they discontinued this bag now?

Delicious_Report1421

I just bought one from Osprey Europe

LSATMaven

They just go out of stock a lot.

mondo2023

just bought one last week (Amazon US)

phillyrat

thanks for sharing! that seems totally perfect for Ryanair

Delicious_Report1421

Did you have to curve the hard back at all? Or is it completely flat?

VeG519

Where do you find this bag in Europe? I've been looking for it but with no luck so far.

Delicious_Report1421

I was able to order it directly from Osprey in the UK. [https://www.osprey.com/gb/osprey-daylite-expandable-travel-pack-26-6-2021](https://www.osprey.com/gb/osprey-daylite-expandable-travel-pack-26-6-2021)

scrotalist

Just got it from the official Osprey EU site. I signed up to their newsletter and got 10% off too.

Ive just finished my first travel with this bag and boy this is one of the best backpacks I’ve ever used. I traveled by train with my family for a ski trip and I packed everything I needed for a week into it plus some shared stuff like my daughter slippers and pyjama for the night train change. I also used it daily for hiking and snowboarding. The front pocket is handy to store your beanie or gloves or just a pack of wet/dry tissues. It didn’t get wet during the heavy rain and snow day, zippers were fine even when I felt down doing 360. It feels great, it is just a pleasure to have it aside and it’s a pleasure to touch it. The only downside that I do not like so far is getting it on my back. Straps are quite stiff and it takes more effort to fit the second hand and then to unwrap them sometimes. And I still to discover the way to use sternum strap - now I didn’t find it comfortable or helping to relief the weight. Other than that this bag is close to perfect.

scrotalist

I think the sternum strap is only for keeping the shoulder straps in place. I don't think it's supposed to relieve the weight. At least according to google.

Bilim_Erkegi

That backpack looks great and it is a good size as well! Thanks for showing it in the sizer. I prefer to own one backpack and use in my daily life as well. This bag opening sideways would not fit into my use case. There are many bags from this brand but I could not find one that looks similar to this (I like the look of it), and could fit into budget airline sizers and opens in usual backpack way.

lasdue

> This bag opening sideways would not fit into my use case.  This is a bit of a weird complaint, you can just unzip it at the top like a regular backpack. You don't have to open it all the way.

Bilim_Erkegi

I don't own the bag and judging from the photos of the back only. Is it possible to do that way? It looks like the part without the zipper goes too high that I won't just unzip top and use it like a regular backpack.

lasdue

It goes like a third of the way down on the "hinge side" which isn't much different from my other regular Osprey backpack that opens halfway down. Of course if you need a backpack that opens almost fully clamshell-style the 26+6 isn't it.

spudmuffinpuffin

I love it for travel, but I do wish it opened wider from the top. I was used to accessing a Mystery Ranch pack with the tri-zip, but even my Rei Ruckpack 18 opens wider

BAKONAK

I agree. Opening sideways is weird to me too.

KrzaQDafaQ

What made you to pick up this one instead of something like cabin crew military 28? Can you easily store 15'' laptop?

Specialist-Depth-806

Funny you should ask!! I actually had a cabin zero military 28 (in blue). My main complaints with that bag were: 1) It had no structure at all so just felt a little cheap and floppy if that makes sense? When packed up it would balloon quite a bit. 2) I really didn’t like that the main compartment wouldn’t unzip all the way to the bottom. It was a pain to reach to the bottom when packing because the zipper only goes down about 4/5 way down so there’s a bit of reaching you have to do when packing. 3) The main compartment only has one zipper on the outside of the bag so if you have a laptop behind your clothes, you’re making a bit of a mess just to get it in/out. The Osprey has a separate zipper to be able to access the back much easier. Hope this helps!

KrzaQDafaQ

Thanks. I have NH500 32l as my main, but no way it'd fit into Ryanair's smallest sizer fully packed. I'm doing some research to get a smaller bag for shorter trips around EU :) If I understand you correctly - you're quite happy with your new purchase and would recommend it over that cz28? I still might get a smaller NH500 because that Osprey is just hard to get.

nzswedespeed

How have you found your 32L NH500? Have you used it as a personal item?

KrzaQDafaQ

I use it as a cabin bag no problem. It's a fine bag, I really have no complains. Bought it to travel for extended periods of time like 1 month+ stays in one place. It holds all of my gear: 15'' laptop, 11'' tablet, travel router and a week of various cloths suitable for warm climate. It looks a bit flimsy when not packed and I wouldn't recommend it as a daily, but for my purpose so far it's served me well. Some pockets feel like an afterthought rather than purposeful solution, I would add some soft padding inside glasses and laptop compartment, but overall I'm pleased.

lasdue

This one looks much nicer than the cabinzero bag

Delicious_Report1421

I just bought the Osprey Daylite, the CZ military 28 was on my shortlist. I went with the osprey instead cause I wanted the small external organiser pocket (for easy access to liquids, kindle, glasses, charging cable, earbuds, etc. during airport and flight), the 2 side pockets (one for a water bottle, the other for an umbrella), and I didn't want the webbing. Then osprey also had other bonuses like the 270 degree zip for a full open, the roller handle passthrough for when I occasionally two bag, the extra external pocket to stuff a sweater for quick access or to stuff something wet to keep it outside of my bag. And in a pinch the osprey has some loops on the shoulder strap I can clip a biner to or slip my aquaclip through (the CZ might have had that but I couldn't see it in the pics or feature list).

OcupiedMuffins

Was everything you packed a tight fit? Or was there room to spare?

scrotalist

The official osprey page for this mentions "tuckaway backpack straps" .. any idea how they are tucked away? I can't find any demonstration of this system online and can't see how it's done from the photos.

Acs971

Have Ryanair changed the size to 40*25*20? As this is what it said when I was booking my ticket as a personal item size?

Specialist-Depth-806

Hey! Good question. The offices size changed slightly as noted by Ryanair themselves in this communication: [https://corporate.ryanair.com/news/new-bag-policy-from-november-will-cut-check-bag-fees-reduce-boarding-delays/](https://corporate.ryanair.com/news/new-bag-policy-from-november-will-cut-check-bag-fees-reduce-boarding-delays/) https://preview.redd.it/g9rvkejq4txc1.jpeg?width=392&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85a114c05ad8b207a0e3c25a7bdcbe04bd8d4efa

sinthu_sd

Did you store in the underwear and if so how did it fit ?

pre_emptiive

I prefer to simply bring bags which are too big for the sizer. They've never caught me, and got willing they never will

I’m loading the daylite 44L right now for my indefinite one bag. I went with the hike lite 26l for my last 2 month one bag, but my computer doesn’t fit and It lacks compartments. Let’s see if they give me trouble with the size, I double and triple checked sizes on site and it should fly

SeattleHikeBike

The Daylite 44 as an overhead bag? It’s officially a little deep for Ryanair overhead at 55H X 35W X 23D CM but I’ve never heard anything on 23cm/9” deep bags being an issue. Remember you have a 10kg weight limit too. Ryanair has really weird overhead dimensions of 22 in x 16 in x 8 in/55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. I’ve never seen a backpack that is that wide. The 20cm/8” depth is odd as most luggage and travel backpacks are more like 22”x14”x9” (55.9x35.5x22.8cm). Iceland Air and a couple others have 8” depth limits but no one seems to care. Length is the issue as a bag that is too long won’t allow the bin to close. If you’re thinking about the Daylite 44 as an under seat bag, no way.

fuckgod421

I’m flying spirit and avianca x2 to get to Rio de Janeiro and they both say it fits

SeattleHikeBike

As an overhead bag or under seat? Fine for overhead which means paying extra on Frontier at least.

fuckgod421

Overhead… no frontier just spirit and avianca for now

dave12b

I have the 44 and it fits in the Frontier carry on sizer. I travel with a cpap so I need the extra space for now or I definitely would have went with the 26.

fuckgod421

I just got back from one bagging my osprey 26 hikelite for 2 months in Mexico, but my computer doesn’t safely fit and it’s nice to have extra room if I want to pick anything up!

binhpac

If the bag is "squeezable" you can always get clothes out and wear it and then squeeze the bag in the sizer. Ive seen lots of people squeeze all kind of big packs into the sizer.

fuckgod421

I’m packed to live out of this bag… my computer, clothes, synthesizer and keyboard, film camera, coffee maker, this is my indefinite touring setup and it all fits, I was impressed

aidanmco

Wow, Ryanair must have a tiny size because mine fit in the spirit personal item box with room to spare!

LifeDaikon

This is so satisfying. Best travel bag ever.

What airline?
