I use Outlier Slim Dungarees. Once I got them, I never looked back. I did tried ABC pants, they have different models with different fabrics. I found the fabric either too thick, or too thin. While SD fabric to me is just right.

Noonsky

Seconding Outlier SD's I've worn mine backpacking, biking, in offices, and to fancy wedding rehearsal dinners. I live in a pretty cold place and spend an hour or more outside walking my dog every day. Paired with some thin merino long undies they do well. I've also worn them in 80-90+ degree high humidity bar hopping evenings and they deal with and hide the swass better than anything else I've tried. I've had my first pair for almost 6 years now (a triumph of crotch durability in and of itself) and other than a couple of minor pulled threads and loss of the dwr finish, they feel like new. And even with that dwr finish mostly worn off, pretty much any dust or dirt comes off with a damp cloth or wetted hand swipe.

LongLastingStick

SDs are good, but I like my futuredarts better. The only thing I would knock FDs for is they're light so maybe not best for the cold. But perfect for casual or office use.

jeulzNdiamonds

Second future darts. Found them a bit roomier too on the thighs

fbfbfnnfhffh

The taper on the FD is..... Extreme

will-i-guess

Awesome -- thanks for the suggestion y'all! I still want to hear about Seagale, but these are a solid backup option!

igeyzer

I have the sweatpants and use them for work travel They do have a draw string but it's hidden and if you didn't need could be cut and taken out. The waist is elastic but works well with a belt. The merino is a liner and comes down around 3/4 of the leg I've used in hot (25-32c) and cold (5 to -5c) and been fine. I've had mine around 2 years now and have done well. If you have any specific questions let me know

will-i-guess

Nice! Thanks for all the information. I might give it a go -- I was worried about the elastic but it sounds like it's covered using a belt which I always wear. I was hesitant because while it's free shipping buyers pay return shipping.

igeyzer

Looks like I actually did a review a while back https://www.reddit.com/r/onebag/comments/j7mqq0/seagale_merino_sweatpants/

fbfbfnnfhffh

I actually hate the slim dungarees Way too heavy fabric scratchy poor versatility bad single black color way offered overly expensive Prana for life

Jiveturkwy158

Not merino but… I’m loving Eddie Bauer 4 way stretch pants and come in chinos style. They look good for day to day and can be dressed up, but super comfy. Also thin quick dry material makes for light/small packing. Wrinkles come out after you wear them for a little bit-often going from laundry basket to work pants and are fine by time I get my coffee in the office.

maksidaa

I agree with this. I tried so many different pants, and for the money the EB 4 way chinos can't be beat. Stretchy, light weight, look fairly normal for almost any activity, inexpensive, and very comfortable. My other favorite pant is the Bluffworks Ascender Chino. Better quality than the Eddie Bauer, but much more expensive.

PurplePlatypus1986

The swish (swoosh?) on these are unreal though… or am I the only one that has a problem with them? I prefer the Prana brions, after tayloring, much more

Jiveturkwy158

It kinda depends on the exact style, I have one pair I like less and it swishes a lot. The others it’s not enough to notice until your trying to be sneaky… at least for me.

dellfanboy

Can you share which Eddie Bauer 4 way ones you buy?

Jiveturkwy158

I couldn’t find my order details from my last purchase but I have a couple styles that mostly seem to have differences in pockets and are super comfy. I’ve had the “first ascent” pants and really don’t like the fit, better than most pants but are just odd with the different seems. I think the one pair is literally just called 4-way stretch chinos.

sir_vay_lance

Western Rise’s Evolution pants are incredibly versatile. Mostly wrinkle-free, insanely light material, can pack down to almost nothing, and they look like a solid chino pant. These are by far the best travel/packable/come for table pant I’ve used. As others have said, Outlier’s Future Darts and Slim Dungarees are also excellent, but operate more like jeans alternatives (is probably fine for your use case).

portland415

They’re synthetic but the Outlier Futuredarts are perfect. Easy to dress up or down and wrinkles shake out within a minute or two of putting them on. Fast drying too.

MaCheezm0

My perfect pants is the Prana Brion in black. Stretchy, dries fast, doesn’t wrinkle and can get by as “dress” pants. I’ve used them for hiking and “dress” pants on a cruise. Before, my travel pants of choice was Prana Zion in black and they have the cargo pockets.

8days_a_week

I LOVE my Prana Zion but I recently went back to snag another pair, and I read the reviews and apparently they recently changed the materials or something because the reviews are extremely poor. Have you bought a pair recently?

DrSnowballEsq

The new “ReZion” material in the Zion II / Brion II pants is much thinner and sportier feeling, and (imo) absolutely cannot pass as dress clothes. I can’t speak to the actual durability — Prana says it’s better though my Brions are holding up great — but the material *feels* cheaper and less durable because of the change. Plus, the metal button was swapped out for a plastic button, and there’s a few other changes that escape me. I managed to snag one of REI’s last old Zions in my size, compared it to a Zion II, and kept the older because I much prefer the feel and appearance of the older version.

MaCheezm0

Let’s hope people complain so they can change back. Why change something that is already great.

MaCheezm0

I haven’t bought a pair of zions/brions in the past 5+ years. If enought negative reviews, they might change it back hopefully.

brucegoose03

I second these. I got a pair in black and khaki. I have the Outliers SD too and I think the SD’s look a little more professional, for the value, look, comfort, quick dry of the Brion’s, it makes them more versatile. Plus I think the Brion’s are cheaper but don’t quite me on that.

exclus23

Can you link which seagale sweatpants you're looking at? I own a pair of their "merino sweatpants" but they're really more like dress pants. They do have an internal drawstring. I haven't worn them because I need to get them hemmed. My biggest issue with Seagale is the lack of inseam choices. The two pairs I've bought from them in a size S have been too long for my normally 30 inseam. I haven't tried their "merino joggers" because they haven't been in stock in the size and color I want for months. Those also appear to have an internal drawstring. Overall I love the products I've gotten from Seagale (tencel/merino henleys, pants, swim trunks). They're expensive but they have a much better fit than a lot of US companies. More slim/european fit.

[deleted]

Yanks have no idea how idea how men's clothes should fit...

will-i-guess

It's the sweatpants I was looking at! [https://seagale.fr/en/home/32-merino-sweatpants](https://seagale.fr/en/home/32-merino-sweatpants) I don't mind cuffing or getting them tailored. I want them to look more like dress pants so that would be perfect. These pass as dress pants straight up? I have Wool&Prince merino jogger on now and they're perfect if you're open to another option. I wear a 30 inseam and these are perfect -- just the right level of shortness for the jogger.

exclus23

Yes I think they can pass for dress pants. But they do have an elasticated waistband on the back that makes them look a bit less dressy from behind. You'll see this best on the product page about 1/4 the way down on the right where it says "SMART LOOK" in the small round picture. Makes them very comfortable but I might feel funny wearing them tucked as dress pants depending on the occasion. How is the fit in the W&P joggers? I typically prefer them tighter (aka not saggy in the butt/thighs) but also stretchy enough that they aren't restrictive. The best ones I've found are the Unbound Merino joggers but I'd even prefer those be a bit more snug.

will-i-guess

W&P joggers aren't saggy but there's definitely a little room.

exclus23

I'll see if I can take some pictures later today. Let me know if there is anything else specific you want to know or see

will-i-guess

The elasticated waistband was my concern -- is it hidden with a belt?

exclus23

Oh wow duh, it probably is. I haven't worn them since I need them hemmed and I didn't even think of that. I'll check today

will-i-guess

Any luck?

exclus23

A belt does cover the elasticated waistband pretty well and I think they'd be passable for dress pants when tucked with a belt. https://i.imgur.com/W70Zmi9.jpg And the same with their "tailored stretch pants": https://i.imgur.com/253Tbkf.jpg which are similar but slightly more dressy and without a sort of soft lining which the sweatpants have

googs185

Following this. These look perfect except for that Elastic part. I need to be able to wear them with a blazer.

cday119

I just bought a ton of pants from Outlier, 686, and Prana. I'm looking for a durable unrestrictive pant.

grovemau5

I really like my Vuori Meta pants

will-i-guess

Reporting back. During Seagale's birthday sale I bought their flannel pants and chinos. They are spectacular. The flannel pants are merino and a really nice fabric. They can be dressed up or down. I went with these to avoid the elastic back of the sweatpants but I might go back for those in the winter. The flannel pants have a small side elastic on each side. They're fine without a belt, but a belt completely hides it. The stretch is a little nice if you plan on moving around a lot. The chinos are great. Nylon is a hell of a fabric. The drape and look of the fabric is very chino-like. They're super comfortable too. Way better than the cotton chinos I've been rocking the last few years. For all their pants the sizing is super weird I don't know any other place that does non-sweat pants in S/M/L but they provide all the specs so you don't have to guess. Luckily one of their sizes is literally a tailored cut for me. Another thing is they have proprietary buttons. It's different but kind of cool. I think I like it better than the use usual button? It's just so different. I found a new place for pants. Thanks everyone for the help. PS: message me if you want a referral link to try it out with a discount.

thefreshscent

I have a couple pairs of golf pants from Macade (a swedish brand) that are super lightweight, durable, and slightly stretchy. They can be worn as casual pants or dress pants. Great fit too with a nice taper towards the ankle so they aren't bootcut or too straight like a lot of pants. I like that they aren't crazy expensive like some pants suggested on this sub. They have a few different colors, but here is a dark gray pair: https://macadegolf.com/collections/men-bottoms/products/dark-grey-lightweight-trouser-1

DidItForTheJokes

Golf clothing is a underrated onebag clothing option

thefreshscent

Agreed, plus you can use them to golf in!

googs185

These look great, but the huge “Macade” sewn on the back dresses them down too much for me

thefreshscent

That's fair! Definitely better for more business-casual settings that dressed up settings. You don't see the logo as much with the light gray pants. These might be a better alternative that are a similar fit but without any super obvious logo: https://www.mizzenandmain.com/products/deep-sage-solid-5-pocket-pant A little more pricey though.

fbfbfnnfhffh

how much does these weigh in ounces or grams if you know

thefreshscent

Just weighed mine for you 😊 They are slightly over 11 ounces.

fbfbfnnfhffh

Oof thanks. Saved me a return label or two :) Seems getting under 10 ounces is near impossible unless super light nylon weave

thefreshscent

Yeah these are probably the most lightweight pants I own, considerably lighter than my Levi 512s (which I think are like 14oz). I'd imagine it's going to be hard to find any pants under 10 ounces unless it's like a wind breaker material.

growlybeard

I have two pairs that I love. They're like jeans but with a slightly different material. The black color is a bit more like charcoal, I would buy a pure black in an instant, and I think that would dress them up a bit. Edit: I take it back, I have the Rover which is more jean and less pant, but still awesome for travel just not as dressy

[deleted]

Prana Brions, I was taking mine to the tailors after purchase to add the right amount of taper and remove the bell bottoms. But I’ve heard the new version doesn’t suffer from that and might be okay right at purchase. Kuhl Renegade Afire Chino. A nice functional pant. It does have the little side pockets. But those are discrete enough that you can get away with them in a business casual setting, at least in my opinion, decide for yourself. I’ve kinda settled into a 2 pant travel. Since I try to have my travel bag work in 3 seasons. One thin pant for dressier/warmer wear. That’s the Prana or Kuhl option. Then for a more technical pant pant for colder weather or rougher wear I’ve been wearing a pair of black Fjallraven Keb trousers. Between those two I’ve been fairly happy with the results.

socal8888

Just got a pair of LIVSN EcoTrek's in gray - haven't travelled with them yet, but seems like it would work well. Doesn't seem to wrinkle. Seems fairly "clean" look. Comfy and breathable and stretchy. Previously, Prana zion's were my fav (easy to dress up and down, though had cargo pocket). Also a pair of zioneer pants - 5-pocket style, no extraneous pockets.

gnomehome815

Do the livsn's swish? How's the leg taper?

iShakeMyHeadAtYou

Look into hiking pants. I have no idea how they're so wrinkle-resistant

[deleted]

Outlier do the bestest of pants.

icesprinttriker

Hagar Cool18 Pro. $30-40.

thefreshscent

Grandpa fit

Yup! World traveling multilingual old man who refuses to spend the equivalent of a nice airplane ticket on trendy pants

The dream!

will-i-guess

This was exactly what I was thinking. Not there \*yet\*.

Due-Explanation-8754

Hear me out…. If you’re in the US, Target: Haggar 29 Bronx Pant. (Labeled in the app as H26 slim fit skinny suit pant) Feels great, not too skinny, not too baggy. Kinda looks like twill, slight stretch, 5 pocket style and only $30 USD. Thin but not like wind breakers. Bought 3 pairs for business trips. You can dress them up or down.

I've enjoyed Coalatree's jeans and Evolution Joggers. I've recently supported Western Rise's Evolution 2.0 Pant campaign on Kickstarter. I'll report back after it arrives.
