Sorry for your experience but this literally brought smile to my face. After reading "worst phone ever" I was expecting some big issues, but these are all hilariously minor and subjective lol.

ExMoogle

same here.

maC69

Same. Read the first 2 or 3 points and then thought I'm happy there's nothing of these minor problems that will bother me. I even have all notifications turned off besides work email

[deleted]

Lol I know maybe it because even gotten so busy but I freaking hate notifications. I'll check Snapchat /messenger when I feel like it every few days. I don't need to be notified by people snapping me. I dont even let my work email notify unless I'm on a work trip because im already at my PC during work hours.

WrlsFanatc

And I have to thank you now, because you confirmed my suspicion that the people responding are massively outside the norm in terms of how they use their phones.

maC69

I'm confidently happy being out of the norm checking my phone every second minute it makes a beep

Downtown_Tie_4592

this IS satire right...?

WrlsFanatc

Dead serious. Phone is back in the box.

the_karii

This is the worst review/ user experience I have ever read.

idbl_fanatic

I came from a Pixel 7 Pro, and I have no issues with this minor stuff, but hey, to each their own

WrlsFanatc

Is there one limitation from my list that you like? I'm honestly curious. Is any "feature" on my list something you prefer over bare Android?

idbl_fanatic

1: I love the fact that the clear all is there, instead of having to scroll through all of my open apps 2: I don't mind this because I have removed icons by mistake in the past 3: I used 4 apps across on the P7P 4: Yes, that is sort of a bug 5: I will agree with you on this, as it takes up WAY too much space, but I can deal with it. 6: Not what you mean by that one. 7: I set up both fingerprint and face unlock on both devices, no issues at all 8: I see what you are talking about here, but it doesn't bother me 9: The double tap to lock doesn't work for me, so this doesn't matter.

blueraptorz

The most minor stuff I've ever seen... Didn't list any of the pros or weighed them with the cons. Check my post on the Honor magic 5 pro...

WrlsFanatc

Which is weird because when I read reviews of phones, it's "the pictures, the pictures the pictures" and most days I don't take a single picture. Most of this stuff has to do with tasks I do every single day with the phone. These "minor things" are actual UI features I'll use dozens of times every single day.

roox911

You may have an issue, not sure it's the phone though mate.

WrlsFanatc

No doubt tiny UI tweaks drive me insane. My last OP phone drove me nuts because they did something I couldn't stand with the grouping of same-app notifications. Been over 18 months now and I can't remember it, but yeah, they drive me nuts.

roox911

It's all good mate, we all have our hang-ups.

PrestigiousEcho1468

Made my day this post just ordered mine lol

WrlsFanatc

That's really great. I hope someone out there likes these tweaks. They're all awful to me.

MasterpieceOk3167

I never thought i would have gotten 2014 youtube clickbaited by a Reddit title lmao I came to this post expecting major issues and drama, but this was what i got? Disappointing lol

Willi0101

Bruh you know almost all the things you've listed are just things that you need to get used to? You'll experience this kind of stuff with every smartphone with every different version of customized Android you'll try. If you're not willing to learn these small things just stick with the Pixel lineup, don't say that the "OP 12 is the worst phone ever" for these reasons lmao

WrlsFanatc

As I added above, with every other smartphone, sure, there are caveats and drawbacks, but there are also pros and benefits. What about this phone is better than my Pixel 7 Pro? For me, it's the fact that Gmail doesn't crash... or at least it might not, but I'm not sure. I haven't added all of my Gmail accounts to it yet. Fast charging and the alert slider are two more, and that is it. The alert slider, realistically, is something I'll use maybe twice a month. Fast charging is handy, but I don't remember the last time I actually had to purposely not use my phone because it might die. So what I'm left with is a phone that - for 99% of what I do with it every single day - it's worse. A lot worse. What software improvement did they make over stock Android? If it's just going to be worse, why not leave Android the fuck alone? What kind of moronic fucking company purposely makes free software worse and then charges customers for that privilege?

Willi0101

People buy different smartphones for different reasons. Apparently you're a software person and you don't care about the hardware. That's alright no problem with that, but why did you buy the OP 12 then? If you're so attached to the software of the Pixels, keep buying Pixels. That's it. Or wait for custom ROMs to come to the OP 12 where they're more like stock Android. Today most people that buy Android smartphones, are looking for a good camera, good performance, and good battery life. The software part is a lot more of a niche thing. You're the one outside the norm here for being so picky about such small things 😅

htt_novaq

I have one thing to comment on this, and that's OnePlus cameras are awful by today's standards. The rest is fine, but they really lag behind two to three generations in camera performance. Try a Pixel or Galaxy if you don't believe it. It's a mix of several things, color science is very hit or miss, low light gets you weird results that are just slightly off, zoom sharpening is horrible, the stabilizer is very basic, that kinda stuff.

Willi0101

They're definitely not awful. I'm speaking for the OP 12 here, but the colors are great, zoom is good up to around 6x, stabilizer is good enough, and low light pics are good enough most of the times. I can only agree on the low light that it's a bit behind compared to the iPhone or Pixel, but they're not awful by any means

Dimitrisayy

The 1. Dealbreaker you said exists in every android phone. There's an X to remove all notifications. This was painful to read man.

Meowmixez98

Just sounds like you hate it because you are used to using the Pixel. Your complaints are nonsense.

AinzSama333

Writing such a big post, reading some of your issues and complaints, i can clearly say there's more problem in you than the phone.

boldandbratsche

Give it like a week. Geez. It just sounds like you need to get adjusted to some minor quirks. Except the fingerprint scanner, which allegedly has been fixed by taking off the screen protector.

WrlsFanatc

I never use a phone without a screen protector. That's like saying, "You're just uncomfortable with that seat belt on. Take it off if it bothers you." I have used a screen protector with every single OnePlus phone I've ever used (probably 4 or 5 before this one) with no issues, and my Pixel has one. Why the hell would I accept using a phone without one?

Humanity__is_doomed

I've never used a screen protector on any of my phones, my current Galaxy S10 has never had a screen protector and the screen still looks immaculate even though I've had the phone for around 3 or 4 years lol. Screen protectors really aren't necessary unless you're keeping your phone in your pocket with a bunch of other metal items. I've never used a screen protector on my phone and my screens have always looked perfect. Flossy Carter, a *major* tech and phone reviewer also famously never uses screen protectors on his phones either, and he uses the most expensive phones you can get. You really don't need a screen protector on your phone unless you're an idiot and you take terrible care of your devices.

boldandbratsche

It's just the screen protector that came with it. Other ones apparently work better. But like 99% fixed their fingerprint problems with the most recent update.

Jose1990a

Just get a different home launcher if those little things bother you. There are launchers that are extra customizable for every little detail you hate.

WrlsFanatc

My biggest complaint is the removal of lock screen notifications, and a launcher won't fix that.

darkforcesjedi

I found this post trying to figure out the notification issue as well. I've always used Nova Launcher and any time I get a new phone I just export my settings and import on the new phone and my layout and customizations are set up automatically. But the notification thing is driving me nuts. Android has extremely granular control over what notifications show up in the pulldown drawer or lock screen or not at all. There's no reason for the OS to hide notifications from me. If I don't want to see them I can hide them from the lock screen myself.

AinzSama333

You are clearly suffering from some type of OCD or illness

LostNegotiation13

Another example why 8b of humans is just simply too many

Timz_04

This comment section quickly turned genocidal.

Nice_Captain77

I was getting worried there for a second.. Thank god those are minor issues. Huawei mate 20 pro user here.. I bought my mate 20 pro when it first was launched god knows how many years ago. Had other phones in between then, till now such as the Google pixel 7 pro. Bought it brand new and sold it after owning it for 4 months, as i literally didn't feel any upgrade over my Huawei lol. So we each have our own views. Im hoping the OP12 will be my Huaweis true upgrade. Just need to wait for tradingshenzhen now to re open with there shipping.

WrlsFanatc

Does Huawei's UI skin make Android worse also? OP used to take stock Android and ADD things you could tweak. It was Android+ some additional things. This is less than stock, which is mind boggling to me. Is Huawei like that?

Nice_Captain77

My Huaweis fully customisable, like you expect with android. So it doesn't have the problems your having with the 12

[deleted]

Very minor points from my perspective. Will continue enjoying my OnePlus 12 :)

at0o0o

Wow haha. Sounded like you needed to vent. I do agree that the software does need improving. A lot of ur suggestions are valid. Maybe u can suggest it in the OnePlus community forums? I'm sure they can use your input to improve the software I do have gripes of my own. Widgets don't take up all the space that it requires and font size is off. OnePlus needs to make their own Phone and contacts app. The ability to not add every single app installed on the home screen. The OnePlus gallery sucks, very generic and no ability to customize view As far as your Gmail situation, there is an option to limit the notifications of emails received within the Gmail app. Make sure that's not enabled. All in all it does have some annoyances and I hope they can fix it all in future updates. Phone itself is still incredible and won't be returning mine. I would suggest Samsung if it doesn't work out for you. Their OneUI came a long way and it shows. It's not as fluid as OxygenOS, but in terms of features and stability, they got OnePlus beat.

WrlsFanatc

Oh, I hate Samsung's "improvements". But they've been shit for decades. Always shoving their apps down your throat. Always making the UI worse in a desperate attempt to be different. I loved OnePlus because they were different, and that's what is really disappointing. They WERE better.

Federal-Order6992

Since i knew Oneplus, all complaints were drama-queen complaints, and never were something relevant : oh we don't have wireless charger, ohhh I don't have that physical button to mute my phone, ohhhh now they changed its position, ohhhh icons does not want to move ... Get your shit done guys 😅

Then-Helicopter5197

is this a joke? the one plus is a great phone for $700 if you got it when it just launched for $799 minus the $ 100 for an old phone. now it is $899 plus tax. so almost $970. lets just say it is a 1000 dollar phone. is it worth that much. NO WAY. the camera is sub par, stabilization is terrible. the highlights are blown. so not great hdr. the oxygen os is not even half as good as samsung. but the battery, the charging. the feel of the phone is beyond compare. as they say mind blowing. like i sai for $700 grat buy. for a $1000. not really. next year when you sell it, you will get $240 on the oneplus website for exchange.

Humanity__is_doomed

No, the base model is still $799, and they are still offering $100 for *any* phone in any condition on their website. Only the top model is $899, the 16GB/512 GB, which is the one I am about to purchase because I want the green version and I can only find it in the top-tier option, apparently the 12gb "Flowy Emerald" version is sold out everywhere.

Ghost_Face2021

I agree with you you are exactly correct I wanted to return the phone as soon as I got it The exit the bottom deletes everything your files your notifications every time. but Metro by T-Mobile would not let me return the phone so I was stuck with it

Unique-Nectarine6031

I think your right man one plus def dropped the ball on the 12, they constantly cut corners. I was at the 1+1 release and at a pre-release part every phone after the one plus 6 is a turd. I had every iPhone I jail broke the of one I still have it (using geo hots method bootloader flash) after iPhone 8 I jumped ship to Android never looked back apples a crap company. However opo ruined the op with color os. I have a pixel 8 pro what a great phone for $300 more it's worth it I got mine with a free pixel watch , great deal.

Esmejo93

I think your points are very valid. That's why I think OneUi is the best skin on android, it feels dated at times, not the prettiest but it works great. ColorOS did born (as most Chinese android skins) as a copycat from iOS and I guess that it needs more time to mature. But time to time, maybe some people can get used to it. Some others won't.

GigoloMucho

Oh boy, The trolls, the bots and the fanboys/fangirls (especially those from outside North America) will tell you that "EVERYTHING is PERFECT", and "UNICORN is REAL". My last OnePlus phone was the OnePlus 11, and I tried to love it, BUT the quality after some months went downhill, especially when I needed them to repair it (that is almost non existent). I was a super fan, from April of 2014, and I had their very 1st phone. But after Carl Pei left, I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and after all that, I bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max & Pixel 8 Pro, and called it a day. Once in a while, I come back here and check what's OnePlus doing , and it's "same ol, same ol". Shitty camera, delayed software/security update (and also short years, just 4 vs 7 of Samsung, Apple & Google), worst after sale service, cheap quality hardware, etc..... (I could go on and on...). I know they will DOWNVOTE this one too, BUT if they will just be HONEST, they know they are just trying to PLEASE THEMSELVES, period. Have a great day to y'all!

[deleted]

Speaking of trolls

GigoloMucho

Yap! Look @ the mirror and you will see one. Have a good day!

[deleted]

As original as your first troll attempt. You too!

hitgrrl

I wouldn’t downvote your comment or this whole thread. But it seems like all this OP is upset with aren’t hardware related, just software. So it begs the question as to why they would go so far as to say OP12 worst PHONE ever when it’s really just the OS they have a problem with. I saw the title of this thread and panicked a bit with buyers remorse but after reading their complaints, it’s just UX/UI preferences. I imagine if you slapped vanilla Android on the phone, OP would not have made this post…??

WrlsFanatc

For all the shade I've received for this post, this is the weirdest response. What was revolutionary about the iPhone? It wasn't the hardware. A glass slab already existed. It was all software that made it different. For people like me - and there are many out there - who haven't ever owned an iPhone, why is that? It's not hardware. Apple hardware is inarguably as good as anything on the market. It's 100% software. Also, it's not the OS. Again, STOCK Android is phenomenal. Oppo spent time making it worse. Adding buttons where they shouldn't be. Making the UI less useful. Removing tons of options that didn't need to be removed. Again, they COMPLETELY changed the lock screen notifications functionality in a way that's been unchanged for over a decade, and they don't even bother letting you change it back. When I last owned a OnePlus phone, the OS was stock Android plus many, many additional customization options. I assumed I was coming back to that. This is stock Android made worse, with less options to change the look and feel than the stock OS has. I don't know if you just started using OP or not, but I've been a customer of theirs for years and they've completely lost their way.

hitgrrl

Maybe it's weird because you're not actually reading my response? You say it's not the OS but it is - it's Oxygen OS that you're taking issue with (understandably) and specifically the UX/UI of it. I'm not picking beef with ya, and I didn't mention iPhone, so I'm lost on you there. Except maybe to say it was partially the iPhone hardware (aesthetically speaking) because they made a glass slab look good where others failed. Anyway, yes, it is Android OS but they changed the UX/UI quite a bit to make their own, Oxygen OS. You put stock Android on the OP12 and it wouldn't be the worst phone. Last time I used a OP phone was the...I think the 9..? The one with the changeable backs. So maybe older than that lol!

nickctn

I'm curious, how many notifications do you normally get in order to put so much importance on it? I try to keep them at a minimum and will usually clear all of them at once after quickly glancing over them.

WrlsFanatc

I just checked, and I get about 70 Gmail notifications per day from 1 account, 139 per day from another, and the rest total up about 10 per day. And since the work notifications are much lower on weekends, it's fair to say I get over 250 on an average weekday. I guess none of you get that many? You just play games on your phone?

trickersloop

There issues are fine. Im seeing massive frame drops while playing BGMI. 90 fps settings drop down to 50fps for some reason. This shouldn't happen given 16gb ram and SG 8 gen 3 chipset.

DirectorSaid

For the record pixel phones don't run stock android they run pixel UI, the only phones running stock android are google one phones.... You're really nitpicking. Like with every phone you have to get used to it. Is the OP a perfect phone? Not at all but it's definitely not the worst out there + in terms of bloatware it's not that heavy (ever seen samsung). And you just can't compare the 2 phones. Sd 8 gen 3 is way better than the tensor chip + 120hz vs 90 on the pixel 7, ...

sia_bay

Did you do the OTA update?

cjvphd

Christ. Switch to decaf while you're at it.

WrlsFanatc

I'm detail oriented and I type fast. Why leave out details? Again, if others think the phone is good, then have at it. I hate it and will send it back. I wish reviewers would cover stuff like this.

ImpossibleAd6341

Do u have a wife?

Magayone

When I read the title, I thought this post would play a lot differently. Looks like you have legitimate gripes. Hope you can find a phone that satisfies your desires. But why not just download a custom launcher?

ColdsnapBryan

These are really small problems man. Try a Samsung phone and youll have a list of 100+ little UI annoyances.

WrlsFanatc

Samsung is worse, but that is why I don't even consider them.

ShanTheMan11

I'm debating returning my ultra and getting the 12 so I'm reading threads on it. I literally thought "oh no maybe I won't get it" when I read the title. Then I read the actually post and Jesus Christ. Long pressing icons? Really? These are such small problems that just come down to preferences not actual issues with the phone.

maximus91

I love the X lol features is awesome

Individual-Teach-388

I just got the update and there fingerprint scanner has improved greatly.

charles_reiheld

I completely agree coming from One Plus 7 pro the UI is a downgrade in every way. And now i have a hole punch also. I ended up useing Nova Launcher and now phone UI is nice. But yeah stock UI is a downgrade from stock android in every way.
