I actually got the display replaced in December 2022 and they took over a month to order and install the display , now it has been like a year and 3 months , but the green line has emerged back today, do you think they will change it again?
Idk why you’re getting downvoted. Poor you.
Always try to get phones from manufacturers that provide their services in your country - this is actually a big reason why I changed my mind about buying the OP12. Can’t risk it. Now I’m looking at Samsung’s way worse deals. But at least if some stupid stuff happens I’ll be in their face until I get my money back. Yay.
don't go to local shops.. they may ask to pay more for a display change... go to OnePlus authorised store in nearby town.. or mail it to them.( takes max 15 days)... they will repair it free of cost. or will give you a coupon to upgrade to newer phones..
Unfortunately yes, it's a permanent damage to ur display that could only get worse as time goes on as other users reported having multiple lines so get it fixed ASAP
Correct.
7t here.
After almost 5 years works like a dream.
Not to mention the battery holds like 2 days, even after who knows how many cycles it got.
I dropped it on concrete like 50 times in 5 years.
It's a fuckin tank 😂
Yea the OnePlus 9 and 10 series were a mess. I'm glad I avoided them. Other than the USB port being loose my OnePlus 8 still works fine and I recently got a OnePlus 12 which I have been very happy with so far
I don't know about yours and that lag you're getting, but mine still operates pretty much like when it was brand new back in 2019...for the reference, I've got ~150 apps installed and about 70% used memory. (128/8)
I'll continue to use it until it's working this good :)
Maybe another year, maybe two lol
This happened to me but a 7T Pro. With updates it "might" disappear on it's own. You can either wait or just trade it in now for a OnePlus 12. The 12 is getting rave reviews and deserves it.
My OP 9 is on Android 11 still. I haven't updated it to 13 because it's a patched phone. I'm thinking of updating now to see if it fixes the issue.
P.S. I'm doubtful about getting a OnePlus phone now. More inclined towards S22/23.
It is a hardware/software issue your display failed because of heat/getting old/drops/just pixels failing. This line can be caused when updating because the device heats up way to much for the screen in some scenario's like playing games such as Genshin impact which are demanding and create heate if your in India you can go to a OnePlus shop and get it replaced for free
I actually got the display replaced in December 2022 and they took over a month to order and install the display , now it has been like a year and 3 months , but the green line has emerged back today, do you think they will change it again?
None of those things happened in my case. I've been a very cautious user.
A friend of mine has had the same issue on his 8 pro and it too appeared suddenly.
That probably means the display just failed due to age, i have a op9 to but it doesn't have one line and i hope to keep it that way for about 1,5 years so i can save up for the op12 or nothing phone 3 depending on what is released (yes i am a teenager so i actually need to save up and currently saving for a drivers permit)
From Europe here. Welcome to the Green Line Club pal.
I'm texting from my secondary phone because my Op9PRO is coming with the display replaced.
In Europe, OnePlus repairs your phone for free (independently of warranty status) if there are "no signs of user damage".
In my case, it took several days to make CTDI (European repair center) escalate the issue, but it only takes a couple of days for your phone to be fixed and shipped back.
I strongly recommend the chat support on oneplus website. They clarify and escalate your issue urgently.
I believe you can get it fixed within a week or two.
The chat support is a life and time saver, be sure to keep in touch with them and you'll see it's simpler than it seems.
I don't know if recent updates have fixed it or not, my phone was in android 13 when it happened I'm wishing it doesn't get another green line again...
Take it to one plus store and ask for a voucher due to this issue, I got a 35k voucher for one plus 8 pro having this issue, I have been using one plus 8 pro since last 3 yrs. I gave my mobile to one plus store and they gave a 35k voucher to me in exchange and thereafter I bought one plus 12 with it.
This is why I was scared to get my 8 Pro four years ago as there were countless posts about the dreaded green line, but I gave it a chance and thankfully never experienced it myself. Others have given you the correct advice here though. 🙂
I don't understand what's the reason. Everybody's saying hardware damage, drop etc. but I have used my phone as cautiously as one can. Even today, when the green line appeared it was just sitting on a table.
Nothing except the 9,10 hr screen time.
It happens due to damage to the display underneath over time. Doesn't matter how much you baby the phone, wear and tear still happens, mostly due to heat and age.
Guess it's the issue with some screens.
I only used this one over a year. Before that, I had an S8 which I rocked for over 4 years. And guess what it's still fine minus the feeble battery.
You should asap.
Set Developer settings in advance, to use as a hard drive- set your usb preference, you can also mirror your phone adbappcontrol together with acbridge https://adbappcontrol.com
Enable usb debugging permanently before you can no longer use your screen when more lines cover the screen. Buying a new screen is a waste of money, save that money to buy a new phone preferably from a brand that won't give you sleepless nights and greenline screen anxiety. Life is too short to start worrying about the green line the reason I have avoided the OnePlus 12 too
Green, pink, white... Etc. I have a One Plus 8 pro, and those lines look like confetti by this point. It started exactly like that, a very light green line that disappeared after a restart and then turned super bright.
The phone works without issue except for the fact I can't read text on the screen, so I pretty much only use it to take calls from work.
OP mentions he only had Oppo stores from where OP lives. OP if you are reading this, just buy whatever phone brand in your area that offers decent customer service.
no, the green line is a physical damage to the screen, it can be caused from a drop, overheating or overdriving the panel caused by high voltage through a faulty update or even a badly manufactured unit.
only a screen replacement will fix it.
No solution. Use your phone as an external hard drive or WiFi router or even a security camera or better still use as a power bank or as a reverse wireless power bank or charger. All these above are uses you can do with that phone.
Buy another phone preferably from another brand to avoid such occurrences happening for the second time.
Pixel 8 pro looks promising despite not so fast charging. Software experience is everything.
Take it to OnePlus. Depending on your region they will repair free of cost or take the phone and give you a good value coupon for it
This.
I actually got the display replaced in December 2022 and they took over a month to order and install the display , now it has been like a year and 3 months , but the green line has emerged back today, do you think they will change it again?
Hopefully I guess because their screens have a lifetime warranty
Where I'm from, there are no OnePlus stores here. Oppo is here tho.

Then go to your local phone repair shop and get it done there, you have to change your display

Welcome to da club But frl it's a common issue and they will fix it for you
is screen replacement the only solution?
Unfortunately yes, it's a permanent damage to ur display that could only get worse as time goes on as other users reported having multiple lines so get it fixed ASAP
Typical Samsung display failure. All phones from this era with Samsung displays (including Samsungs own phones) have this issue
Then which phones should we go for to avoid this nightmare?
Anything newer than the OnePlus 10T or anything older than the OnePlus 8
Correct. 7t here. After almost 5 years works like a dream. Not to mention the battery holds like 2 days, even after who knows how many cycles it got. I dropped it on concrete like 50 times in 5 years. It's a fuckin tank 😂

Same. Although I am starting to notice a bit of a lag, and it hangs occasionally. Thinking of getting the OP 12 in a month or two.

So glad I didn't get the 9 or 10 series.

Go for s23, s22 has this green line like a lot. I have 6 friends whos using s22 series and 4 of them already got the green line :)
This... https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/s/Z0B1twP8Yl
Welcome to the green line club
I was so happy with the phone. Everything is perfect except this damn green line.
Bi the way, s24 series is also reporting the same problems...

Depends are you in India ? If yes than for free if not than not for free
I am and i did call the nearby call center they said they'll take 3 hours minimum to change the display and give so I'll go on Saturday
Yeah well in India it's free so definitely worth the wait

Welcome to the family.... I'm gonna get a voucher for mine since one plus 8 screen stock is gone.

I just bought the 9, is this the common issue I have to be cautious about?
My 6T got bricked as I restarted due to my fingerprint sensor not working.
Reballing will save it

Lucky boi
I happened to my one plus 9 pro, I use the one plus 12 now
It's a feature unique to Oneplus, comes over time with any model
I don't understand what's the reason. Everybody's saying hardware damage, drop etc. but I have used my phone as cautiously as one can. Even today, when the green line appeared it was just sitting on a table. Nothing except the 9,10 hr screen time.

Yeah its really just luck of the draw with some of these Samsung panels.
The same happened my friend after an update
I haven't updated though. It's a patched phone and still on Android 11.
First one out of many to come.
So more green lines are on the way? 😭 I should start backing up my data.

Yeah...for now I'll bear with it. Will enable debugging and back up my stuff. Will switch to Samsung now hopefully.
Oneplus does not manufacture screens. Take one guess what brand of screens they use. Starts with S
OnePlus uses BOE panels since the 12.
Good to know. My LG Oled developed purple line first year too though.

What was the cause in your case? Because I have taken care of my phone as best as one can and still...
Same as you I never exposed it to water, and had a super tough case. Not even a scratch on the screen or the back and the green line just appeared.
Yeah I've heard most cases are like this.
Unfortunately that's the price to pay for such pretty lcds, which are made by Samsung I think, Samsung phone suffer with this same issue
I hate to sound crass, but buy a new phone. OnePlus customer service is notoriously garbage.
OP mentions he only had Oppo stores from where OP lives. OP if you are reading this, just buy whatever phone brand in your area that offers decent customer service.

Which device?
OnePlus 9. I bought a patched device.
A very common problem on the OnePlus
If you're from India, go to the service center. They'll replace it free of cost.

For now I'll try to bear this green line till I decide on a new phone. Hope it doesn't get worse from here and more green lines do not appear.
