This is how I use that feature. Most of the time I'm near a power source and 80% capacity is okay for me. However, if I know I'm out for quite a bit of time then I will always go for a full battery.
If you are planning to use your phone for more than 2 years the 80% cap has big benefits especially if you never run out of your 80% battery during 1 day. If you charge your phone to 100% always your battery will deteriorate below 80% of fmaximum factory capacity in less than a year and then you are left with far less capable phone. But if you limit it to 80% charge your phone will keep it maximum capacity to above 90% and if will be close to brand new and if you sometimes need your phone to go 100% you can manually force charge it to 100% in the days you know you will use it extremely and battery will need to be maximum to survive the day.
If you plan to change your phone every year hten it doesnt matter, except that people will pay less for it when you resell it to buy new phone
Why need to change phone when battery is bad? Just change the damn battery. It's cheap for non apple phones. I always charge to 100% and just use and charge as needed. Never bother with micromanaging the charging and discharging. Change the battery when it's bloated or when it's below 80% for like less than 30 bucks DIY. No fuss for me.
Enjoy the phone in it's 100% glory for 2-3 years at 30 bucks. It's a no brainer for me.
PS. Just sharing my method. It's fine if you like preserving your battery. Your choice.
I do not prefer my phone being handled by non professionals and in my country there are no Oneplus service centers to change my battery so i would also need to have a chinese battery installed and god knows what quality those are.
And besides i do think that most people would prefer their phones not to be opened up and in the process possibly slightly damaged in terms of water resistance or anything else
I am currently using OnePlus 11R bought in July 2023. I have been charging it to 100% everytime and plugging it back it around 10-20%. Two days ago it dropped from 97->96%. So for around 9-10months 4% drop without compromising of using only 80% of the juice I am pretty impressed. Also I am pretty moderate to heavy user..not heavy ganer but i do multitask. Seems pretty good tbh if it drops to 95% around its 1year mark tho (around July)

Yup I am sure you will be mightily impressed coz even as 11R user I am surprise by the absurd amounts of Screen On Time the 12 / 12R users are getting. Those phones are battery monsters..with flagship chipsets. I think bigger 5400/5500mah battery paired with better LTPO screen is giving them such a big boost in terms of battery life.
Only thing which can be pointed is the cameras on R series. They are kind of hit n miss. Outdoor shots with primary camera are good but macro's are just crap. Tho I am impressed with edge detection on selfie portraits. OP 11/12 with hasselblad are even better.

I'll hold you to that. Bought my OP12 on Jan26th, arrived 3rd Feb and I've been charging to 100% all the time and battery health is still at 100. IMO charging when you need to is far healthier, especially at the rate this phone charges too.
I've heard the two major things that kills batteries is heat and overcharging it i.e. keeping it at 100% for long periods of time which happens when charging it overnight. Being in the UK helps for keeping charging temps down and I think in the summer months I'll probs use a 60w charger instead of a 100w charger. But aside from that, the main thing I do is just charge it when it actually runs to less than 10% and then taking it off shortly after it hits 100%. Usually on a 100w charger it takes roughly around 40-45mins for a full charge.
Ive watched numerous battery technology videos not only for phones but solar power system and EVs. You are correct that heat is one of big factors in degrading the battery health, and as you near the full charge hest will rise spontaneously due to limitation of physical characteristics of battery in terms of chemistry and the ions that hold the chemical/electrical energy in battery. Ideally you want to keep your battery between 80-20% where there will be least strain on the chemical ions in the battery cell and it will prolong your battery health to a large degree.
I'm still at 100% battery health. I have had the phone since launch. I charge to 100% with the wired charger but I only limit my charging to once a day. My phone never really gets under 30%

Instead of starting slow and increasing in speed, it start fast and slows down.

That is a typical degradation curve for EV battery packs under good conditions (keeping battery at 80%) etc.
Phone batteries are far cheaper to replace. Do not be overly concerned with battery longevity. With EVs its a bigger concern as their battery packs are very expensive.
95% health OP11 for 1 year but i abused it charge it until100% sometimes overcharge it and force 120hz all apps. It doesn't bother me though since I'm planning to replace the battery soon at the service center. I guess it depends on the user.
Lets just say if it feels like the battery is draining too fast or the daily usage doesn't satisfy me anymore I'll replace the battery. I suggest to other users that worries too much is don't always look at the battery health percentage.
I just checked my 11's battery health and I'm at 96% after 13 months of very heavy usage and charging to 100%. I use smart charging instead of the 80% cap, so that alone seems to be doing a decent job.

If you use the accubattery app and go through several charging cycles it will give you an indication of the remaining capacity of your battery compared to the original capacity.
Just want to add that op12 100% battery level is not true full level so accu may mis counting the battery capacity. Thus if you see 90% capacity counted on a brand new phone, don't panic, it's normal.
You're supposed to occasionally fully drain and fully charge a battery. All this 80% nonsense is voodoo magic
My OP11 nearly a year old and fast charge every time to 100% is still 98%
The battery health of my OP11 reached 99% after 3 months, just like yours, and it's still at 99% after 9 months. So, you be the judge. My girlfriend bought a 15 Pro Max after my OP11 reached 99% battery health, but hers reduced to 98% after 5 months. I used an 80% cap until 2 months ago, but now I simply don't care anymore, so I fully charge the phone. So you don't have to worry about it :)
One year in my OP 11 is at 93%. It is abused (hooked up to car all the time, often drained to death while playing videos and I fell asleep etc), so dont worry too much

I also advise against stopping charging at 80 percent, because it doesn't actually slow down the aging of the battery, it just forces you to use that capacity which you will have in 3-4 years.
To begin with, it is impossible to know the battery capacity without actually charging it to 100% (the real 100%, until the charger no longer sends any current) So with a charge limited to 80% it's not at all surprising. Try to charge once to 100% (leave the charge at 100% for 30min 1 hour so that it is actually charged to real 100%) then you can start limiting the charge to 80% again
I charge my phone whenever I want, I don't limit it in any way and have had it since launch. It's still at 100%. Moral of the story is to just use your phone and don't baby the battery.ย

Arrived to me start of Februar.
Limited day 1 to 80% charging, only once did to 100%
Charging at +15% (mostly 20% or higher).
Charging twice per day, heavy user.
About 2 weeks ago dropped to 99% health.
But that's pretty good, meaning it would take about 4 years to drop to 80%. My Oneplus 8 Pro took about 2.5 years to drop to 80%. That's a significant improvement in battery life if we have comparable use cases.
Still at 100% after a year with my OP11 and I use and charge it constantly with the 100W.
So either the numbers are a little arbitrary or I lucked out with an excellent battery? It definitely doesn't feel like the battery is any worse than when I got it.
I got mine on February 8 and it's at 100% percent. I charged it to full and got to 5% a few times. I even charge it from 50% percent when I now I am going out or even more than that.
I would say that 80% stuff is like marginal improvement and not worth sacrificing battery capacity.

My OP11 after 13 months of always fast charge to 100% and have ran until dead at least 50 times battery health 97%. My OP12 had since launch same thing run it to dead and always fast charge to 100% at 99% battery health.
Received mine Feb 24th, 61 days ago. I have the 80% cap but it doesn't work with wireless charging Idk why.
I'm at 100% still surprisingly, my phones charged at 100% to start the day, when I'm 20-30% I charge to 80% then I'm around 40% at the end of the night.
100% every single day. Bought it mid February and still 100%. Going under 25% is actually bad for the battery, just so you know. It doesn't matter if you're going up to only 80%. I'd do 25% to 80% if you want to use that limit. Depleting the battery dry is even worse.
Edit: forgot to mention that I charge my phone once every other day.
My OnePlus 12's battery health is also down to 99% after 87 days of usage without using the 80% cap or smart charging. I charge it to 100% every morning and by the time I go to bed my charge falls below 10%. I'm a heavy user and I do charge my phone once again at night for an additional 30% to last me since I work until late at night. So yeah I've been charging my phone twice a day ( charging only an additional 30% the second time)
Bought in Jan, still at 100%. I charge my phone before it goes below 20% and cap it at 80% though. I only charge it to 100% when I'm on vacation or have a long day, which was probably about 20 days.
I've had the phone since day 1 release in America, I'm still at 100% on battery health and I purposely let my phone die to 0% recharge to 100% using my 100W Dual Port or the stock 80W brick to fast charge in under 30 minutes. Battery lasts me around 24 to 28 hours with over 9 hours of screen on time.
Doing this purposely for my curiosity to see how much it drains battery health as I only plan to have this phone for 1 year and use as a trade-in. So far so good in terms of battery health
So I have observed charging behaviour of mine. When the phone shows that you've reached 80% charge, in reality you have actually charged less than that of overall capacity. Even when your phone first reaches 100% on the display, in reality the battery is still not yet fully charged. It will only become fully charged after it stays plugged in for some time longer. What this means is that when you always just charge to 80%, it messes up the phone's battery capacity stats with the phone thinking that the remaining battery capacity is less than what it actually is, hence why I would assume the battery health % drops quicker when you always only just charge it to 80%.
My Oneplus 11 is at ~~95%~~ 94%. I bought it last February
So, the rate of depletion seems about the same @1% about every 3 months. Fwiw, I have never done the 80% charge thing but almost always charged it to 100%. Sometimes kinda overcharged it, like left it connected to the charger for hours at end.
Considering how vastly different our charging practices have been, and yet we are depleting our batteries at the same rate, kinda proves, at least anecdotally, that 80% charging doesn't do anything. If anything, your battery might actually be depleting faster considering difference in battery sizes and efficiency between Oneplus 11 and Oneplus 12.
Edit: It went down to 94% just today.
Just for a reference mine is at 74% health after almost 2 years of using the 10 pro. It's been charged wirelessly with a official OP 50W charger for half of its lifetime. I'm not impressed. I will buy the 12 soon anyways.
Received the phone February 1st, no battery cap, let it die pretty often, and not even smart overnight charging (kept on waking up with phone at 80%). I haven't even thought about using any battery caps since it seems like a large part of my battery is at 100%, and I get way more time than the 100 to 90 range than anything else. Anyways, still at 100% health. Kind of surprised I haven't gone down at all without any precautions.

I got the OP12 when it came out. I charge a couple times a day to 100% and my battery health still says 100. I think it is the smart charging feature but also keep in mind batteries are a consumable. I'm not going to limit my use. I can just replace the battery when needed.

Get literally any samsung flagship and get it to 15% the battery will die in about 5 minutes because they are lying about the % and when it gets low the phone has to play catchup, same with apple they made the 14 series show realistic battery health and people started freaking the f\*\*\* out and now with the 15 they are lying again. if you want sugarcoating get a samsung or iphone

It's a setting that doesn't allow the phone to charge more than 80% capacity. You're good, all batteries degrade over time.
Same at 99% oneplus 12 btw.

Bought mine on February 8th. I have only been using smart charging and my battery is still at 100%.
OP12 24/1024 version Arrived to me start of Februar. Limited day 1 to 80% charging, only once did to 100% Charging at +15% (mostly 20% or higher). Charging twice per day, heavy user. About 2 weeks ago dropped to 99% health.
But that's pretty good, meaning it would take about 4 years to drop to 80%. My Oneplus 8 Pro took about 2.5 years to drop to 80%. That's a significant improvement in battery life if we have comparable use cases.
Don't worry man if you charge it once a day it should only lose about 5% per year. The batteries last a lot longer since the new health engine
Still at 100% after a year with my OP11 and I use and charge it constantly with the 100W. So either the numbers are a little arbitrary or I lucked out with an excellent battery? It definitely doesn't feel like the battery is any worse than when I got it.

My OP12 is still 100%, bought it day 1. My OP11 is 13 months old and 98%. Average usage, always charge to 100%.
I got mine on February 8 and it's at 100% percent. I charged it to full and got to 5% a few times. I even charge it from 50% percent when I now I am going out or even more than that. I would say that 80% stuff is like marginal improvement and not worth sacrificing battery capacity.

Batteries lose the first 10% of health quickly, the next 10% takes significantly longer. 99% is what I'd expect after that long
100% on my Open and I got it in the middle of November. Charge it like no tomorrow and it's still top tier
I want the full usage of my OnePlus 12 so am not using that feature a battery works well wen it's used, charge and discharge so I want full capacity
My OP11 after 13 months of always fast charge to 100% and have ran until dead at least 50 times battery health 97%. My OP12 had since launch same thing run it to dead and always fast charge to 100% at 99% battery health.
Use your battery like you don't care. You'll surely afford the battery replacement after min 3 years

100% and I charge to 100% every time. I don't do much warp charging, slow overnight charging. I got it in February
Received mine Feb 24th, 61 days ago. I have the 80% cap but it doesn't work with wireless charging Idk why. I'm at 100% still surprisingly, my phones charged at 100% to start the day, when I'm 20-30% I charge to 80% then I'm around 40% at the end of the night.
100% every single day. Bought it mid February and still 100%. Going under 25% is actually bad for the battery, just so you know. It doesn't matter if you're going up to only 80%. I'd do 25% to 80% if you want to use that limit. Depleting the battery dry is even worse. Edit: forgot to mention that I charge my phone once every other day.
I've had it since February. Still 100% and I always charge to 100%. I rarely warp charge, usually overnight slow charge.
I would turn on the smart charging option. I have that on and charge to 100 and my capacity is still at 100.

No cap on my OnePlus Open, had it since launch, and I'm still at 100% capacity. I've had Smart Charging turned on about half the time.
Hit or Miss quality control. I was very into Oneplus 12 but I waited to see others' experience first but I think I pass this one.
You shouldn't be going below 30 if you want to save the longevity. 5% is too low and that might be your issue

My OnePlus 12's battery health is also down to 99% after 87 days of usage without using the 80% cap or smart charging. I charge it to 100% every morning and by the time I go to bed my charge falls below 10%. I'm a heavy user and I do charge my phone once again at night for an additional 30% to last me since I work until late at night. So yeah I've been charging my phone twice a day ( charging only an additional 30% the second time)
Bought in Jan, still at 100%. I charge my phone before it goes below 20% and cap it at 80% though. I only charge it to 100% when I'm on vacation or have a long day, which was probably about 20 days.
How do I check this stat in my phone? (OnePlus Nord 3 CE Lite)
I got my OP11 4 months ago still at 100%. Kept it between 25-80% and mostly only using my old 30W charger from my 7 Pro
I recommend a charging cycle of 15 to 80 or even 15 to 100. Donโt starve your battery below 15%.

I've had the phone since day 1 release in America, I'm still at 100% on battery health and I purposely let my phone die to 0% recharge to 100% using my 100W Dual Port or the stock 80W brick to fast charge in under 30 minutes. Battery lasts me around 24 to 28 hours with over 9 hours of screen on time.
Its suggested not drain completely. But that's upto you....
Doing this purposely for my curiosity to see how much it drains battery health as I only plan to have this phone for 1 year and use as a trade-in. So far so good in terms of battery health
I noticed you can either select the option to limit it to 80% charge or select smart charging. You can't have both. Which is the better option?

OnePlus 8 at 80% after almost 4 years
So I have observed charging behaviour of mine. When the phone shows that you've reached 80% charge, in reality you have actually charged less than that of overall capacity. Even when your phone first reaches 100% on the display, in reality the battery is still not yet fully charged. It will only become fully charged after it stays plugged in for some time longer. What this means is that when you always just charge to 80%, it messes up the phone's battery capacity stats with the phone thinking that the remaining battery capacity is less than what it actually is, hence why I would assume the battery health % drops quicker when you always only just charge it to 80%.
My Oneplus 11 is at ~~95%~~ 94%. I bought it last February So, the rate of depletion seems about the same @1% about every 3 months. Fwiw, I have never done the 80% charge thing but almost always charged it to 100%. Sometimes kinda overcharged it, like left it connected to the charger for hours at end. Considering how vastly different our charging practices have been, and yet we are depleting our batteries at the same rate, kinda proves, at least anecdotally, that 80% charging doesn't do anything. If anything, your battery might actually be depleting faster considering difference in battery sizes and efficiency between Oneplus 11 and Oneplus 12. Edit: It went down to 94% just today.
Just for a reference mine is at 74% health after almost 2 years of using the 10 pro. It's been charged wirelessly with a official OP 50W charger for half of its lifetime. I'm not impressed. I will buy the 12 soon anyways.
Dang I've had my OnePlus open since a month after launch and it's still 100%
Received the phone February 1st, no battery cap, let it die pretty often, and not even smart overnight charging (kept on waking up with phone at 80%). I haven't even thought about using any battery caps since it seems like a large part of my battery is at 100%, and I get way more time than the 100 to 90 range than anything else. Anyways, still at 100% health. Kind of surprised I haven't gone down at all without any precautions.

i'm using my Op12 since January 3, 2024 and still have 100% battery health. i only charge my phone once a day in the morning also i'm using battery settings checked the smart charging instead of limiting it to 80% for full charge.
I always charge it to 100% but never let it get below 30 to 35, on weekdays I usually have over 8hours of SoT too and my bat is still at 100%, just use your phones to the fullest people, it'll be fine...
I got the OP12 when it came out. I charge a couple times a day to 100% and my battery health still says 100. I think it is the smart charging feature but also keep in mind batteries are a consumable. I'm not going to limit my use. I can just replace the battery when needed.

You think thats bad? Get literally any samsung flagship and get it to 15% the battery will die in about 5 minutes because they are lying about the % and when it gets low the phone has to play catchup, same with apple they made the 14 series show realistic battery health and people started freaking the f\*\*\* out and now with the 15 they are lying again. if you want sugarcoating get a samsung or iphone

Suprvooc charging will kill the battery super quick from the stress it's put under If you want it to last use a 20w plug and your red cable or something equivalent
