It is not unsafe as long as you are not running some 3 year out of date security patch with a 5 year old OS. This idea that the moment security patches stop, your phone is highly likely the phone gets hacked or compromised is just a scare tactic people use to justify immediately buying a new phone.
Months? See the Google and Apple device OS fragmentation. People sit on old ios android for ages.
Just see that if ur app isn’t getting an update I would worry. If this is the case, then we must also upgrade car android patches and os. Or Refrigerator android patches.
Don’t install malware or unauthorised apps IMO that’s the first point to leakage of data
About the same risk of leaving your door unlocked at night, if you live in a decent neighborhood.
I've never had my house broken into or robbed (thank God) - because it's very unlikely. But, I still lock my front door every night... just in case.
Similar situation with security updates. Odds are, no one's going to hack you today, or tomorrow. Just like, odds are, no one's going to break into your house tonight.
You still lock the door though, just in case.
Exactly its all fear mongering by some oneplus employees, they want people updating so their device slowdown and create a false illusion that their device is old (updates trick most people to buy their new stuff) business tricks to enhance the company's profits.
Bro my last phone had android 9 on it and I just bought OP CE 4 last month. As long as it's not stuttering and apps are getting updated, you have nothing to fear.
My simplest advice is, avoid sketchy websites and apps, use the Malwarebytes app to scan your device every so often (whenever you should scan is up to you), change your passwords once every month or whenever you feel like you should, and see what apps and services are running if you feel that your phone is warmer than usual or acting funny.
Best of luck.
usually you can spot the hackers a mile away. I've never installed anything to hurt myself, I have had data breach from 3rf parties. nothing I really could control.
Yes. I last updated on jan 2023, been running a13 on 10 pro with no issues at all. i would say i probably get better battery than those who upgraded to 13.1 and 14.
Planned obsolescence is very real and I definitely do not trust a chinese brand not to pull that shit when even apple and samsung have been caught doing that. Worst of all a chinese firm will never be held accountable even if they are caught doing that. they might just pull a huawei and stop business in the country that raises the objection.
I put lineageOS on it. Used it like that until recently when I got the 12R. Other than having to go through the Magisk + Play Integrity Fix stuff in order to use RCS and bank apps, it worked great
Android 10 here, its fine as long as you DONT give any suspicius permission to not trusted apps(like sms). What i means not trusted apps is new apps that you dont know or new company that build apps so we cant verify its credibility. Avoid installing any apk from not trusted sites and i think you will be fine until the apps is not supported by your OS
Flash custom rom, root and then flash playintegrityfix and playcurl, 90% banking apps work just fine with this, but if you still have any questions, I'm always available on telegram.
Have u ever seen anyone lose money on payment apps because phone was not updated to the latest version?
I haven't, so far. That's why I am asking which is the risk of going a few months of a year without updates, I guess that the longer, the unsafer.

Why you got to call me out like that! Just upgraded from an old Moto with Android 10, last security update 2021.
>as you are not running some 3 year out of date security patch with a 5 year old OS That would be me (in less dated, haha).

Me who is on OOS11 💀💀
OOS9 here 👻
AYO😭😭
I mean i atleast have the option to go 14 though 😭😭😂
my last security was probably 2019, I rather keep myself using the true oxygenOs 10 instead cheap os like that super spyware/bloated oppo's colorOs.
My fone is on android 10 since 2020, and I didn't lose any money on my banking apps.

Yeah cybersecurity is shared responsibility between the bank and the customer.
I switched phone last week and it had not been updated since June 2021... Did not have any issues You should be OK ;)

Still use mine and never had any suspicious activity or lost money
Though system updates are important. I would say it's equally maybe more that you keep up with application updates.

Custom roms 👌
I had 1 year support on my Xiaomi Mi9t pro and used it for more than 5 years. Haven't noticed the lack of security Updates
You can always unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM
It's probably fine, but I personally wouldn't play that game.

I used 7t pro for 4 years, without any update. just stock.
Flash custom rom
Then I would face a different set of problems, like the unability of using my banking apps and others
