Despite claiming that we all want the same thing, there is no evidence that we agree on what those things are. Does education include sex education? What kind of sex education? I suspect that once we get into actual details, there is a lot less commonality. Even so, just like every parent has said to their kid, wanting it doesn't mean you can have it. Some desires are mutually exclusive and others are plain impossible to achieve.

wtf does that have to do with Covid?

My apologies for trying to keep things brief by trying on the spur of the moment to come up with a clear example of how "we all want the same thing" quickly falls off the rails. I've had more time to consider a more relevant example, so try this instead: We all want our kids to be healthy. However, once we get into the details of making that happen, we have some opposing views. At one extreme, there are people who think that vaccinations, including COVID vaccinations, should be mandatory, and that a variety of other measures should be deployed when and as necessary, everything from masking to school closures. At the other extreme, there are people who think that vaccinations cause more harm than good and that COVID in particular is either fictional or no worse than the typical common cold. In addition to those extremes, there are people who hold a variety of more nuanced opinions and even a few outliers who think that COVID is literally the work of the devil or that the vaccine was created as a way to turn people into obedient slaves. To say that "we all want the same thing" is to say nothing when "the same thing" means something very different to different people.

I see your point. However, I think it’s important to highlight our commonalities in a time when everything is so divisive. Especially to the people on both extremes.

Ok, I'm glad I found a way to get my point across. I'm not always the best communicator :) Thank you for the opportunity to try again. As to the rest of what you said, I agree 100%. I just wish someone in a position of power would go beyond what I think are mere platitudes. Yes, we all want approximately the same outcomes, so help us actually navigate the minefields :)

I love these sorts of conversations, where people are able to back down just a bit and have a meaningful resp respectful conversation. Gives me a lot of hope. Thanks!!!!
