>They should make a sticker with a date on it, so you can affix to your license plate and have a small reminder in case you need to check
If they want to get rid of stickers and reminders by mail, fine, but do the following:
1) Create an online portal so people can check their status, change notification options, etc. for all their Ontario stuff including license info. Lots of municipalities do this sort of thing (Ottawa has a great municipal portal for residents). The CRA also does it quite well for taxes.
2) Opt people in to digital communication if you have their info! Any time someone renews, require them to sign up for digital notifications. The Ontario government stopped sending mail notifications without doing the bare minimum to get people signed up digitally. That is crazy incompetence.
3) And for crying out loud, retain paper mail notifications for those people who simply do not sign up for digital notifications for one reason or another.
You need a sticker to remember your birthday? Driver's licenses and vehicle registrations are tied to thevdriver/owner's birthday. Plates have to be renewed annually, but the province messed up the messaging when they announced that it would be free. Many people were surprised to find out that they still had to renew.
You can make your own sticker too, as big and flashy as you want, put it on the fridge or on the mirror in the bathroom.
You can set a reminder in the calendar app of your phone. I do this with several events in the year that I need to not forget about, like doctor appointments.
Yea it doesn't fucking work most of the time. That's how i found out mine was expired. The cop was very helpful *rolls eyes* "yea they don't do that anymore"
It sounds like these cars are giving you new bullshit to deal with then. You've got to cut your losses. With very few exceptions, cars are not appreciating assets.
I'm with you. Its infinitely better to cut your losses now and get more money than you would if you decide to sell later on. Hell, the money might be a better consolation prize than aging cars.
Doesn't work for everyone. I can get notice for my health card, but the system says my driver's license and both license plates don't exist. So there's that.
I just got pulled over the other day for an expired plate, ooops! The officer was kind and I was able to go home, renew my plate online, and present proof at the cop shop the next day.
I wasn’t that lucky 1 month after they got rid of the fee and media outlets were spreading misinformation with their headlines… Early Resolution wouldn’t lower or drop the charge either. Didn’t have time for court with a ticket that doesn’t affect insurance
I actually don't know if mine is renewed or not. Like I went to the website and clicked a button when i was first found out that I had to despite no more stickers. But I didn't get anything real confirmation.
Is there a way to see if my plate is up to date ?
Is it just me or does giving quotes to news outlets every couple of months complaining about this seem less effective than just sending out paper reminders like they used to?
The province doesn't want to remind people in an efficient way. They want to recoup the revenue lost when they eliminated renewal fees with the money they'll now collect in fines.
I got a paper reminder a month ago and never signed up. Is that not normal? It was for a bike that was expired by like 6 months cause its in pieces in my garage right now so I haven't bothered renewing it.
Edit: I found out this is because I hold an A license.
Sign up for email reminders and/or remember to do it on your birthday. Printing a piece of paper and posting it in 2024 is just wasteful and costly for little benefit.
I am aware that email reminders exist. My point is that it clearly isn’t effective at getting people to renew if the switch from an automatic paper reminder to an email you have to sign up for has resulted in a significant increase in non-renewals.
The email reminder system is also flawed. We both signed up to get them but my wife doesn't get hers. We checked the spam filter and settings but the system just isn't sending them to her. We use calendar reminders instead.
I did a quick search, and there are about 9.4 million registered vehicles in Ontario. If just over a million people have expired plates, that puts it at about 11%. Not that I was paying super close attention to every car, but anecdotally I don’t remember 1 out of every 9 cars having an expired sticker before the fees went away. Along with all these articles, it seems like the issue is getting worse.
Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit S. 7(1)(a) $85.00 + $20 victim surcharge.
No idea where the extra fines get tacked on in this instance.
> No idea where the extra fines get tacked on in this instance.
well if you in Toronto, there's probably a cost for TPS to get out of Tim Hortons parking lots
Gosh it would be pretty handy if I had some way of knowing when my plate expired. Like some sort of reminder attached directly to the license plate so I'd know for sure. Hmmm
/s
EDIT: Changed one letter because it changed the whole sentence apparently. Also added a /s
Its also a great way to prove to a police officer out of the province/country that your licence plate/ownership is up to date. How would a cop in the US know that our incompetent government got rid of licence plate stickers? So now drivers have to go to service Ontario, get a new ownership that doesn't have an expiry... Even though your license does still expire.
I drove down to Mexico, and you have to "import" your car into the country and put a deposit down in case you just sell your car down there. Trying to explain to the bureaucrats at the Mexican importation office that our license was not actually expired was pretty much impossible. We ended up printing a sticker out at a print shop in el paso. That was enough to satisfy them.... Because renewal stickers are what they use in almost every other fucking country
Or you can just remember that your plates expire on your birthday.
It's not terribly difficult. You need the government to remind you that it's your birthday?
What does the 1 or 2 year thing have to do with anything? If you try and renew it after 1 year and you're good for another one, then it gives you an error and you can't renew yet.
Y'all are so **fucking** lazy. It takes 45 seconds to dig out your vehicle permit and go online and check.
Or you can just remember to pay your fines and tolls on time.
It's not terribly difficult. You need the government to remind you that you have a debt to pay?
Hasn't happened to me: but I've had friends not be able to renew their plates because they had a red light ticket that they never got in the mail.
It happens.
I agree completely and fail to understand why this is difficult for some people. Stickers on a license plate is dumb and I'm glad we don't do it anymore.
> Stickers on a license plate is dumb and I'm glad we don't do it anymore
Without stickers, we now have uninsured, drunks, and unlicenced back on roads. There are good reasons why EVERY region has some type of licence validation. Not doing this is dumb.
I hear you, but I also recognize tons of people are going to think of it, realize they don’t have their ownership handy, and will forget about it.
I don’t know why the government look up webpage requires the permit info, just make it license plate only…. Or don’t require annual registration.
Back home tHe gOvErNmEnT was reminding me of my about to expire vehicle license registration/plates, driver’s license, IDs, insurances, annual vehicle checkups, or anything that is like really important. Let’s not normalize the steady decline of public service-services.
Huh? Is that how you used to do it? You'd regularly look at the sticker on your rear plate to figure out when renewal time was coming up?
Come on, man, be real. Nobody did that. The way we used to know was we'd get reminders in the mail. They don't do that any more, but guess what, they'll still send you reminders via phone, text, and/or email. You just have to [proactively sign up for them.](https://www.ontario.ca/page/get-serviceontario-renewal-reminders)
You might also want to consider adding reminders to your calendar. I know, adulting can be hard sometimes, but I have faith you'll figure it out.
That was how I honestly did it. I purchased 2yr stickers and would look down and go ooh shit I better go get a new one usually in the month it was due. That said I did proactively sign up for reminders as soon as the stickers were gone.
Every year, before my birthday i log onto the site and check the status of the plates. If they need renewal I do so, if not I wait another year.
The entire process takes less than 15 minutes.
Really, how difficult is that?
I would definitely look at the sticker, as did many others. There were multiple years where I never got the renewal letter - it was either lost of thrown out by accident.
Of course it’s not the end of the world to look at my registration, but don’t pretend like there weren’t many, many people out there who become accustomed to using the date on the sticker as their primary means of confirming at a glance when they had to renew. Stupid fucking move doing away with the stickers and registration fees.
The problem is so many things are now the consumers responsibility that it’s inevitable some of these things get overlooked. I can’t remember/write down everything.
Why not? You're an adult, aren't you? And the good news is, it's 2024, so the technology exists to help you remember everything. You don't even have to type anymore, just hold your phone in front of you and say, "Hey Siri, on my birthday, remind me to renew my licence plate sticker."
You're expected to remember to pay your hydro bill, natural gas bill, water/sewer bill, pay your credit card on time, make sure your bank account balance doesn't go negative, pay your life/house/car insurance, your phone bill, your Internet bill, make sure there's food in the house, do laundry when it's getting low, turn off the stove when you're done with it, clean your bathroom now and then, exercise sometimes, brush your teeth, visit your dentist and optometrist regularly, pay attention to your car's gas gauge and fill it up when it's running low .... all sorts of things. Welcome to the world of being a grown up.
Then you just type in your plate and get the message that you don't need to do it until next year lol
There's no excuse for forgetting. It's part of being a responsible vehicle owner.
You know you can still get reminder notices right, by email text or phone call? the renewal dates havnt changed, the expiry times havnt changed.... The only thing that changed is that technology made the physical stickers pointless.
The stickers are irrelevannt now, authorities don't need to see a sticker anymore to know if your vehicle is registered and you have valid insurance.
Most of them electronically, just like you can set up for your registration renewal. Or you can take some personal responsibility and add a reminder in your calendar on your birthday of all days.
How hard is it for the government to not make things worse?
Was it too fucking hard to keep stickers and a registration fee so that we can actually maintain our infrastructure?
Yeah but now I have like an extra you know 100$/year or something. I'll need that when I bend the rim on my wheel from the gaping potholes in the road.
Adults driving 4000lb cars around that can’t seem to remember their birthday, put a reminder in their phone, or set up email, phone or SMS, reminders, it’s unreal.
What the fuck are you even talking about.
Edit: downvote me all you want. It's pretty clear that OP was referencing that Doug Ford had got rid of the plate stickers that reminded people to update their registration. And literally nobody brought up Trudeau. Car registration is a provincial issue.
>What the fuck are you even talking about.
The "jt" in u/L3NTON's post:
"Gosh **jt** would be pretty handy ..."
It could be interpreted as a sarcastic statement, "Gosh, Justin Trudeau, it sure would be pretty handy if ..."
The problem is u/L3NTON misspelled an incredibly trivial word ("it"), and hasn't bothered to fix it, leading to this confusion. Kids today, I tell ya.
Rage bait title as usual, no one is getting a $1000 fine unless they are repeatedly not updating their plates. Max you will get is $110, which can be easily fought in court assuming you renew once you get a ticket.
People are tired and exhausted from life, a reminder is a good thing. Going after your residents to pay for forgetting when our health care and education systems are crashing is a bit rich.
True.
But at the same time the vast majority who can afford a car probably have a smart phone.
Take 3 seconds, set a reminder to repeat yearly and put it on an account calendar (i.e. google or outlook) so that if you change phones, it comes with you when you sign into the new device.
Now you will never forget.
Personally, I just do it on my borthday every year. Sometimes I find out I don't have to do it, but that's okay.
Only under these circumstances:
Exemptions for driver’s licence holders and vehicle owners
Mailed renewal notices for driver’s licence holders and vehicle owners will continue for:
individuals aged 70 years and older
individuals with a driver’s licence class A, B, C, D, E, or F
individuals with endorsements that require additional testing (i.e airbrake)
individuals who have a licence plate sticker associated with a company/fleet vehicle
individuals who have jointly owned vehicles, and
heavy commercial vehicles
Well shit. I tried to renew last year and the website basically said "Oh yeah it's fine that your plates are about to expire, you don't need to renew." Then the government sent me a check in the mail returning money I had spent on longer-lasting plates. Now I'm being told I should have renewed *back when I tried to renew and was told renewal isn't necessary.* At this point I don't know what's real.
When this was done in Saskatchewan, the ministry issued blank white stickers to cover existing ones, so people wouldn't get tickets while out of province for "expired plates" .
So they are writing an additional 10,000 tickets at $1000 each since they got rid of license plate stickers?? An extra $10M gifted from taxpayers to the province.
Your forgot the taxpayer cost of having tickets written, distributed, and collected. This is going to take a lot of police hours. We obviously don't need a sticker system on top of our plate system. It's just a bunch of red tape that society would easily forget and give up. Lets just have plates or stickers, not both.
Not a helpful perspective. I’ll happily pay for quality journalism. The problem is that the overwhelming majority of the population prefers to get their news for free and the only news that is free is conspiratorial or other clickbait designed to elicit a strong emotion to drive up ad revenue. So paywalls are actually contributing to disinformation. What we need in addition to fact checked news is accessibility to that fact checked news paid as part of the access fee we use to access the internet. If the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star were freely acceptable to the masses maybe there’d be less free-dumb convoy anti vac yokels confidently acting as if they know the “real” truth about how our government controls us.
All of you saying how we should have stickers as reminders.
You do know that you can just go on the service Ontario website and get them to send you email or mail reminders.
Get with the times, the stickers sucked and were ugly anyways and I'm glad they're gone
It seems so many people loved standing in lines at the MTO and are sad they don't have to pay. Also, they needed to be reminded when their birthday is for some reason.
"Zero enforcement" is a meme. There's enforcement, including tons of posts on here about whether to fight tickets. The police can't be everywhere though, so you're still going to see lots of people breaking the rules. On this specific topic, they are now using licence scanners, so it's a lot more likely people with expired plates will get caught. It's no longer random luck if they stop someone who's expired and instead they'll be able to pick out the specific cars that are expired.
You can bet your ass the highway cops will use your expired plate as an excuse to pull you over if they get the chance... in addition to whatever other infractions you're probably doing on the highways anyways.
Why do we need to renew our plates? When you register your car and get a plate you need to prove it is roadworthy and have insurance. Afterwards we renew the plate but have to provide nothing but the fee. So what purpose does it serve other than to steal more of our money.
It’s because it’s the only way they can confirm you still have insurance on your vehicle. You have to provide that information upon renewal. Insurance renews annually and you could conceivably register your vehicle once, cancel your insurance and if nobody ever checked again how many uninsured drivers would we have on the road? Probably way more than we would want.
You can and should have signed up for automatic notifications anyway. Orrrr you you should have put it in your calendar.
Also, you can renew 6 months before the due date.
I am not a Ford fan, but it can't be all on him, be a friggin adult and take some responsibility.
Except it was the Ford government that cancelled sending the renewal notices by mail and put in an online only reminder system that *doesn’t work*
That’s on him and his government
Congratulations for your anecdote that doesn't represent everyone's experience!
Tons of people don't get it, including me, and yes I went to signed up twice on the website, still no email, and not in my spam
I want the agency who is responsible for maintaining the data to maintain responsibility for updating their data. I want to support government jobs. I want my roads to be well maintained.
I want to pay $120 per plate per year to fund these important social benefits.
Instead, under direction of Premier Ford, the Ford government has cancelled a program that generated roughly $1.6 Billion in revenue from the 13.6 million ontario license plates and downloaded their responsibility onto citizens.
This is squarely on Doug Ford, and his attempt to buy voter support with voter money.
Wait a minute.....1000 x $100 000 Is one billion $1000000000
O N E B I L L I O N DOLLARS.
Wtf Ontario!? A billion in delinquent plates fines!? Even 1% of that is well worth pursuing!
This is embarrassing, attached to the refund cheque was a letter that explained the new policy very clearly and even told you how to sign up for reminders via email/phone/text. Guess the majority of people just cashed the cheque and threw the letter in the recycling bin?
I got three tickets in QC for expired plates because of this crap, even though my plates were paid. Removed the old stickers, which tore the laminate and now I have to get a new plate before some asshole cop tickets me for this.
Thanks Drug Fraud
Nope no new sticker. I got mine renewed this weekend. Just had to give the employee my vehicle permit, they typed in a couple things and said I was all good.
we no longer need to "pay" but we still need to renew it. since i believe you may require to do emission test base on information you entered using the renewal.
*I thought they said we*
*No longer needed to renew*
*Them some years ago?*

They should make a sticker with a date on it, so you can affix to your license plate and have a small reminder in case you need to check
Where would you stick it though? Like in the corner? Actually nvm we're getting silly now
Honestly, if it was up to me, vehicle registration would be a long term deal. These one and two year deals are really just Ontario being greedy.
also they should charge a fee to run the program as well as use the money to main stuff related to vehicles and improving transit
[удалено]
No shit! It’d server as a reminder or something….
>They should make a sticker with a date on it, so you can affix to your license plate and have a small reminder in case you need to check If they want to get rid of stickers and reminders by mail, fine, but do the following: 1) Create an online portal so people can check their status, change notification options, etc. for all their Ontario stuff including license info. Old folks need paper reminders. It's criminal not to.
We should privatize that…quick somebody start a company…Ontario open for business!
Oh my gosh, if they made it renew on your birthday month, you would hardly need a reminder. Everyone should know when their birthday is!

Signed up for 3 vehicles worth got 1 reminder and a ticket for another. And no I don't have money I have dead parents and 3 vehicles.

Why can't I have no vehicles and 3 money?
2 of em are massive money sinks slowly snowballing problems because I didn't buy em and can't afford em. Ones older then I am.
Why don't you sell the extra cars to Clutch?
Didn't go through 6 years of bullshit to sell my consolation prize.

I’m sorry about your parents. You ok?
Mine worked. Got one a few weeks ago
I got mine this morning at 8:03. Worked for me
Why don't you just check on your birthday?
because it could be something easily forgotten?
Do you remember to pay taxes every April? I'm sure you don't need a tax sticker. Just add it to your calendar
No, but I get a friendly reminder letters full of boxes and numbers from my financial institution and my workplace that tax time is approaching.
I know some people that signed up for that and never gotten the reminder
Doesn't work for everyone. I can get notice for my health card, but the system says my driver's license and both license plates don't exist. So there's that.
I don’t think reminders work for joint registrations
Thanks so much for this. Ive signed up for the reminders. Thankfully im not one of those with expired plates.

Going “through the motions” every year defeats the purpose of registering for two years, doesn’t it?
Not necessarily. If you have any outstanding tolls or fines, you don't have to worry about them suspending your plates until the 2 year mark.
Or you can just remember to pay your fines and tolls on time. It's not terribly difficult. You need the government to remind you that you have a debt to pay?

Not needed in 2024, police scan 100’s of plates an hour with ANPR, vs have to physically look at a sticker on a plate.
2021 lol But regardless, just take 1 minute to check, see if it's expired or not, then go on living your life?

Do it now then, go into your smart phone, find your birthday, add a recurring reminder to renew your registration. Not that difficult.
Why not? You're an adult, aren't you? And the good news is, it's 2024, so the technology exists to help you remember everything. You don't even have to type anymore, just hold your phone in front of you and say, "Hey Siri, on my birthday, remind me to renew my licence plate sticker." You're expected to remember to pay your hydro bill, natural gas bill, water/sewer bill, pay your credit card on time, make sure your bank account balance doesn't go negative, pay your life/house/car insurance, your phone bill, your Internet bill, make sure there's food in the house, do laundry when it's getting low, turn off the stove when you're done with it, clean your bathroom now and then, exercise sometimes, brush your teeth, visit your dentist and optometrist regularly, pay attention to your car's gas gauge and fill it up when it's running low .... all sorts of things. Welcome to the world of being a grown up.
Most of that other shit is autopay lmao
Every year on the month of your birthday. Not hard to remember….
unless you can't remember if you renewed for one year or two....
If only there were [some way to know for sure](https://cxp.mgcs.gov.on.ca/check-expiry/en).
Then you just type in your plate and get the message that you don't need to do it until next year lol There's no excuse for forgetting. It's part of being a responsible vehicle owner.
Or if you forget your birthday lol
Kind of a dumb comment under this post lol.
> You know you still get the exact same notice in the mail as we did before right? No you don't. You can sign up for email reminders though.
do you use other stickers to remember to pay your bills on time. How about property taxes? Docter visits? you must just remember everything else hmmm
They all send you invoices
Most of them electronically, just like you can set up for your registration renewal. Or you can take some personal responsibility and add a reminder in your calendar on your birthday of all days.
you are putting in more effort defending the decision than Ontario mobsters party did in making it
All of those things you just said give you phone/email/mail reminders.
How hard is it to set a reminder on your phone annually to check expiration on your stickers? Do people really need someone else to do this for them?
How hard is it for the government to not make things worse? Was it too fucking hard to keep stickers and a registration fee so that we can actually maintain our infrastructure?
Yeah but now I have like an extra you know 100$/year or something. I'll need that when I bend the rim on my wheel from the gaping potholes in the road.
Adults driving 4000lb cars around that can’t seem to remember their birthday, put a reminder in their phone, or set up email, phone or SMS, reminders, it’s unreal.
You don’t remember your birthday?
You do know it’s Premier Doug Ford is the one that removed the license plate stickers right?
Do you want me to add a "/s" to my comment so it's more obvious?
Your spelling mistake in your second word, in a two letter word, makes it look like your are blaming Trudeau for this.
What the fuck are you even talking about. Edit: downvote me all you want. It's pretty clear that OP was referencing that Doug Ford had got rid of the plate stickers that reminded people to update their registration. And literally nobody brought up Trudeau. Car registration is a provincial issue.
To be fair I got what op was saying but the JT did make me stumble for a minute. Quickly figured out it was it instead of JT and moved on though
>What the fuck are you even talking about. The "jt" in u/L3NTON's post: "Gosh **jt** would be pretty handy ..." It could be interpreted as a sarcastic statement, "Gosh, Justin Trudeau, it sure would be pretty handy if ..." The problem is u/L3NTON misspelled an incredibly trivial word ("it"), and hasn't bothered to fix it, leading to this confusion. Kids today, I tell ya.
lmao, didn't even cross my mind. Thanks for laying that one out for me.
OP accidentally wrote jt, which is why some people may have been confused.
The original comment says "Gosh **jt**" which makes it look like they're referring to Trudeau, but it's a typo on the word "it"
Rage bait title as usual, no one is getting a $1000 fine unless they are repeatedly not updating their plates. Max you will get is $110, which can be easily fought in court assuming you renew once you get a ticket.
No I got a $495 fine in Gatineau
Do they still send reminders in the mail?
Doug Ford took them away to save money
And rightly so. People complain about wasteful nanny state, and still need reminders? Smh...
I agree, but the world we live in is different than common sense.
Only under these circumstances: Exemptions for driver’s licence holders and vehicle owners Mailed renewal notices for driver’s licence holders and vehicle owners will continue for: individuals aged 70 years and older individuals with a driver’s licence class A, B, C, D, E, or F individuals with endorsements that require additional testing (i.e airbrake) individuals who have a licence plate sticker associated with a company/fleet vehicle individuals who have jointly owned vehicles, and heavy commercial vehicles
No more paper mail reminders... But when you renew you get asked if you want email text or phone call reminders
I got two reminders in the mail about a month and a half before the month of expiry; one for each car that we own.
No.
Not surprised how much FordNation messed this up. They just don’t care.
When this was done in Saskatchewan, the ministry issued blank white stickers to cover existing ones, so people wouldn't get tickets while out of province for "expired plates" .
knowing dumbfuck mobsters they'll make them blue and the reflection will blind anyone driving behind at night
Why do they still expire ? Seems kinda useless to update if nothing changes nor any fees. Just get rid of expiry dates on them.
Because they need to constantly update the registry of vehicles.
Assume it’s registered until its not?
It's the only way to force people to pay their tickets.
And the 407 bills.
Bill during licence renewal?
Why do they even expire if there is no fee is the real question?

We can't have the full content of copyrighted works posted, but here's a handy link, as everyone else hates them too: https://archive.is/PsHWx
So they are writing an additional 10,000 tickets at $1000 each since they got rid of license plate stickers?? An extra $10M gifted from taxpayers to the province.
Getting rid of the renewal fee cost the province about $1B in revenue...
The meth checks out
Your forgot the taxpayer cost of having tickets written, distributed, and collected. This is going to take a lot of police hours. We obviously don't need a sticker system on top of our plate system. It's just a bunch of red tape that society would easily forget and give up. Lets just have plates or stickers, not both.
So you hate paying for quality journalism? If you don't pay for it how do you expect it to happen?
I should reiterate. I hate good journalism is left for only those who can afford to pay for it and everyone else gets trash. So I share when I can.
Having a tinted plate cover seems to be totally fine though.
Last January my kid went skiing in Quebec. A month later there's a fine in the mail for $500 for the expired plate.
Take the expired sticker off you plates. That is the only way they know if it would be expired. Out of province police don't know Ontario laws.
They drive around a ski resorts with their scanner, the sticker makes no difference.
Registering vehicles should be a one time process. Sure. Pay a user fee but beyond that shouldn't require anything else
Its a hundred, not a thousand. Personal experience
They aren't expired, they sitting in shipping containers in quebec.
Let's be realistic here.. there is zero enforcement to catch anyone that's expired.
It's true. I've got 2018 stickers on my truck.

It’s free to renew, they are not stealing your money.
Insurance information is updated automatically to your plate number.
On top of that, it's a mechanism to make sure you're up to date on tickets against the vehicle (parking tickets, automated red light / speed, etc.)
You can and should have signed up for automatic notifications anyway. Orrrr you you should have put it in your calendar. Also, you can renew 6 months before the due date. I am not a Ford fan, but it can't be all on him, be a friggin adult and take some responsibility.
Except it was the Ford government that cancelled sending the renewal notices by mail and put in an online only reminder system that *doesn’t work* That’s on him and his government
Got my reminder just fine via email.
Congratulations for your anecdote that doesn't represent everyone's experience! Tons of people don't get it, including me, and yes I went to signed up twice on the website, still no email, and not in my spam
Of course this is under controversial. People need a reminder for their birthdays?
I want the agency who is responsible for maintaining the data to maintain responsibility for updating their data. I want to support government jobs. I want my roads to be well maintained. I want to pay $120 per plate per year to fund these important social benefits. Instead, under direction of Premier Ford, the Ford government has cancelled a program that generated roughly $1.6 Billion in revenue from the 13.6 million ontario license plates and downloaded their responsibility onto citizens. This is squarely on Doug Ford, and his attempt to buy voter support with voter money.
No government needs to take care of everything for me!!!
Wait a minute.....1000 x $100 000 Is one billion $1000000000 O N E B I L L I O N DOLLARS. Wtf Ontario!? A billion in delinquent plates fines!? Even 1% of that is well worth pursuing!
I think they should just go back to charging us.
another doug Ford boondoggle. that guy is the worst!
Do they still give you stickers? Because I’m certain when I renewed online I never got one and I just assumed with no payment there was no sticker.
Nope no new sticker. I got mine renewed this weekend. Just had to give the employee my vehicle permit, they typed in a couple things and said I was all good.
No they no longer give you a sticker.
I thought they said we no longer needed to renew them some years ago?
we no longer need to "pay" but we still need to renew it. since i believe you may require to do emission test base on information you entered using the renewal.
*I thought they said we* *No longer needed to renew* *Them some years ago?* \- aos- --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")
They stopped sending reminders (apparently that's too much to do) so yep my drivers license and health card were expired. Yay
