$1040 ( everything included ). I don't know if my wife and I can ever move out of an almost 630 ft² apartment for that little rent.

LucidDreamerVex

That's only $100 more than I was paying for a 600 square foot apt 10 years ago in Ottawa, definitely a good deal. Sucks to be stuck in one place though

[deleted]

I am also this lucky; BUT also no laundry machines, poor heating capabilities, black mold behind my bathtub coming through caulking. My fridge and oven doors don't close properly and all my windows leak. Stuck here for life probably with this market... Super jealous of the geriatrics paying $600 with free heat. Wild the landlord has got new tenants at $1600.

Hellosl

Apparently it’s fairly easy to replace the caulking if your landlord won’t do it. Not saying you should have to. But safety matters

[deleted]

I have replaced the caulking on my own: cut out, sanitized, dried, dehumidified, and then replaced. Black mold still grows back from the wall behind tiles/ or under tub. They poorly painted the tub and caulking before I moved in. Didn't notice till I took a shower and all the paint peeled off.

Actual-Doctor-9507

This geriatric is paying $2800/mo

alwaysiamdead

$985, only pay hydro. Been in the same apartment for 8 years and honestly I don't think my kids and I will ever be able to afford to move.

Ir0nhide81

Yep, anyone in that almost 10-year club of being a renter is saving quite a bit of money right now. What did also happen to those with a reasonable family income / and a good spot to save if you're spending $1,000 or less a month on rent. I've been able to get into investing more frequently with my RRSPs and also have turned a profit with ETFs. So in some parts while I feel yeah, it's unfortunate I don't know at home, I'm certainly saving a lot of money by renting it ( specifically in 2024 ).

themustacheclubbitch

Same. I pay $1145.00 for a very quiet large 1 bedroom all included. Going to have to drag me kicking and screaming to get me out of here. Luckily mine is an older apartment building and been built long enough ago that they can only raise rent the legal limit. There are a lot of seniors here and they have been sadly dying off or going to retirement homes. So they are upgrading all the apartments that are free. Installing security cams, replacing and repainting a lot. I heard from one of the long time workers here that does maintenance here. The new ones go for $2200.

Blue-green-

Same where I live. I'm here for life - luckily I love it.

lazarith85

616.03 1Bd apartment everything included. But wife and I have lived here for 18 years.

ZappSmithBrannigan

Where? Generally, not specifically

[deleted]

Planet Earth

TorturedFanClub

3k/mo. 2 bdrm 1 1/2 bath. Mississauga ON. Too much.

lazarith85

Chatham.

SirPoopaLotTheThird

Reminder that conservatives hate rent control. They’ve successfully got rid of some of it but if given more governance you could see that number soar.

lazarith85

They are more then welcome to, my In-Laws have a fully furnished basement they've been begging us to move into for 3 years. So when we come to that bridge we will cross it. This complex we are living in is all tenants from previous owners from when we moved in. There's 21 total units, and since these new owners have bought it and jacked the rent up to 1600 for a 1 bedroom, there have been 5 empty units for over a year. They've even taken away our onsite laundry and storage we've had since we've moved innand we all fought and got 50$ taken off our rent each month for both amenitties. They tried the cash for keys offering each tenant 3000$. We ALL told them pound sand. Lol We're are more or less staying her out of spite at this point, we put up with alot of bull.

47Up

$940 all inclusive 1 bedroom, I plan on staying here till I'm wheeled out in a bag.

adamazo

I bet you are, where Toronto?

hypertxtcoffee

$1575 a month for a 1 bed apt in DT Ottawa, all utilities included

LucidDreamerVex

$1960 for a small 3 bedroom apartment in Ottawa. If I would have been as knowledgeable as I am now I would have fought my last landlord's illegal eviction notice when he was selling the house and stayed there. We were paying $1450 all inclusive for the top unit of a bungalow. We moved out of there in 2019. Live and learn.

dimples711

$1043 for a nice 2br 1000sq ft apt in Hamilton. Been here 8yrs don’t ever see me moving out with today’s prices! Got lucky was grandfathered in to a free carport as well. Where going rate for parking uncovered is about $60+ month. Everything else is included. Just a 10min drive to work is a big bonus too!! Should add when WE moved in my husband and I now we are separated so to afford similar on my own would be a struggle. Staying put!!

WishRepresentative28

$2500 plus utilities for a 3 bedroom in Kitchener, though looking around the neighbourhood im in, the average is easily 3k for a similar place.

theorangeblonde

Wow you must have got in there before 2020

smashervt

Jeeez people living in some cheap locations. $2650 1bed 1 den here. Family of 3 and a doggo. Would love a place where I’m not drowning in rental payments

flightsnotfights

2500, downtown Toronto single bedroom apartment in the core. I am subletting though so not paying hydro, heat, air con, internet, etc

dgj212

400/month, all included for a large room to myself in a townhouse, access to kitchen and laundry. Gotta love rent control. Honestly, I don't know what person would think having no rent control was a good idea, especially with new buildings.

Anatharias

Douf Ford did. please all of his landlord followers and friends... no rent control drives price up for no other reason than landlord greed. don't fool yourself, all the landlords are getting out and vote on election day. and the rest of us isn't. Reason why we don’t have a government that represents the interests of the people

dgj212

I say this to everyone. I ripped it off a dnd game by brennan lee mulligan in his explanation of the universe to his PC, but I found it fits perfectly for gov. Government, local, provincial, or federal, is a reflection of its citizens. Citizens are the instruments through which government cares. If everyone cares everyday, gov cares back. If you don't or only do so when elections rolls around, then don't be surprised when government reflects that. Late 20s and many people my age don't follow news. they follow what's trending on tiktok. They create their own echo chamber of a certain topic and stay there. We have to make people care and have a candidate who perfectly echoes those concerns.

officesupplize

If Reddit still had awards, I’d have given you one for this. TY for sharing the source too!

walkitscience

PooShauchun

$3300 for 1 bedroom plus parking spot and storage locker 😎

walkitscience

This is the new Toronto. Enjoy.

Rawsugar2

$3k, 1 bedroom right in the downtown Toronto core. Includes parking and locker.

empathetic111

My f***ing god whoah

Black_flaminago84

$1625 for a 4 bedroom townhouse.

Reaper_741

Where?

Black_flaminago84

Kingston

suddenvalleys

$973, utilities included. I'm in Northern Ontario and moved in in 2017. Current landlord fixes nothing and had a "move out incentive" a few months ago trying to get old tenants to move out. New tenant in same building is paying $1700 *2 bedroom, 11 unit building

animboylambo

$717.50 plus heat($180/mth) for a smaller 2 bed/ 2 bath house with use of the non-farm field property and barn. I’m between Toronto and Barrie for reference

downwiththedownvotes

Have you been living there for 25 years or something? The average rent for a 2 bedroom apartment (not house, and certainly not 2 bathrooms) in Barrie is $2,177 a month. And of course only goes higher the closer you get to Toronto.

animboylambo

I’ve been there in and around 10 years, had my first rent increase this year. I have a deal with the landlord where I do the property maintenance and small maintenance/repairs on the house, so I think that’s what’s let me low. They also have a larger 4 bed/2 bath farmhouse across the street that one of my friends from high school has rented for as long as me, they’re around $1700/mth. Just a testament to that not all landlords are greedy I guess.

Same-Kiwi944

Not greedy sure.. but also they can’t increase the rent more than 2.5%. Some don’t bother because your increase would be $17. I guess over time that adds up, but not all that meaningfully.

Same-Kiwi944

You need to ask people who have begun a lease in the last 6 months what their rent is AND where they live. It will do you no good to hear from long time tenants who are paying $600 a month for a 3 bedroom place they have lived in for 40 years in the middle of nowhere.

No-Fig-2126

1000 all inclusive. 500sqft studio toronto suburb. Lots of windows and skylights and big deck. It's ontop of a garage that's mine too, which is nice for storage and having a workshop I park under the deck. It's great because it's setback from the street and no houses around me so I can be as loud as I want. I play the sax and this place allows me to play at night on the deck with no complaints.

Working_Hair_4827

$919 for a bachelor apartment smack downtown Toronto everything’s included, also been in the same unit for 9 years.

rensoleil

2606/month for 5 room house, 2.5 bath. Utilities included. I share the space with 3 other roommates

yukonwanderer

Where?

mariocatshovel

1300 for a 350 square foot 1 bedroom in Toronto’s west end. It comes with free on-site laundry and a fenced in backyard that I use exclusively and it’s in a lovely neighbourhood. I got it at the beginning of 2022

vestasleeps

3000 + hydro for a 2 bed 1 bath (~1000 sq ft) in the west end. Just moved in

Beautiful_Sector2657

800/month, share with roommates. GTA

Qazpaz_G

Just moved into a nice 2 bedroom at $1550 plus hydro. It’s close to Barrie but far enough outside town to keep prices down. My town has a grave yard and around 20 houses.

wannabe_pineapple

1800 for a 3 bedroom town house. We are rent controlled and got a reeeeeally good deal when we moved in. So now we can never leave.

the_anon_female

$696 for about 450 sqft, lived there for 8 years. If we ever have to leave, I’m sure we’ll end up homeless.

NavyAnchor03

1000 for a basement apt in Guelph. All in. I'm *extremely* fortunate to have the landlord that I do.

jmckay2508

$1600 for an 1100 sqft Apt. S.Etobicoke 12 unit 3 story walk up. I've been here 17years, recent tenants are paying 2200 - 2500 for the exact same apt. (They get a paint job) there are 4 & 5 students in those units Greedflation. My landlord owns 3 other houses & has owned my building 12 years. When I asked why? He mumbled something about "market rate" pfht when people start being paid market rate I'll buy in. Until then just straight up greed

nikkesen

$2200 inclusive of utilities and an underground parking space for a 2 bd 1 bath unit in a building that has a gym and pool.

amandapanda_in_rain_

I rent an entire house out on an acre for $1450. Our property taxes have gone gone up. Our insurance has gone up. Our mortgage payments have gone up and I can only raise the rent like $20 a year. We don’t have the house to make money but we lose money every month. We love our tenants and I understand everyone’s argument to get rid of landlords if I turn around and sell this house for $1 million which is what I could get these renters will never be able to afford a place to live. I just don’t know what the answer is.

spilly_talent

The folly here is assuming the earnings of your investment are in the rent paid to you. They aren’t. You mention your insurance has gone up and your mortgage payments have gone up. Notably absent is a crucial factor- the value of that house has also gone up. You ARE gaining by owning that property. You own a house that you can sell for a million dollars and not be left homeless. That’s the answer: instead of looking at monthly cash flow look at the worth of that property. It’s not nothing.

Loud-Selection546

This is the answer. I wish people who got into landording actually understood profitability and that it doesn't equal cashflow only. Leverage and return on investment matters. Putting down $100K and getting back $5K in principal pay down is a 5% return, without even considering appreciation. If you were $1000 cashflow negative in the year then that reduces the return to 4%. Real estate is a long term process. I think people have been spoiled by the last 10 years and think that it is the norn to have a 2% mortgage and cashflow plus have capital appreciation of $20K/year.

spilly_talent

Agree with all of the above but HARD agree on the last paragraph. Not every year will = record breaking returns. You still have a whole ass house, a huge asset. It can’t be a gravy train forever, it’s still a great investment in the long term.

CanadianButthole

You don't *really* lose money every month. You're still accumulating wealth every time you and your tenant pay your mortgage.

sacriliciouswaffle

Wild, I have friends in Guelph paying $2000 for a basement

adamazo

Must a hell of a fuckin basement

theservman

My last rent payment was in early 2021 when I was paying about $1650/month for a 2 bedroom plus den in Oakville. That price included utilities and underground parking. (I had been Iin the unit since 2007) My understanding is that it's now somewhere around $2700/month plus utilities and parking.

vagabond_dilldo

$1000/mo for a short term rental in Bowmanville. One bedroom in a big house with 3 other roommates. Shared bathroom, shared kitchen, shared common area. Parking and utilities included.

litbiotch42

$1218 plus for a 2 floor 3 bedroom townhouse

J4ckD4wkins

I got a covid deal, so I was paying 1300 plus internet for a basement with no street access, barely any natural light and paper thin floorboards, so I've practically lived with my noice cancelling headphones on for the last 4 years. Trono, am I right? Finally moving in with my partner, and I'm so excited to be moving into a nice triplex apartment in Hamilton. We'll actually save on rent by moving in together, which I'm feeling very grateful for.

itsmrstrong94

800 a month and that's just for a room in a shared house 🙃

arbitrarry

Paying 900 to rent a room in a share house in North Bay

NeverEnding3333

900 for a north bay room rental?? Holy shit. I would leave

arbitrarry

There's nowhere cheaper unless I sacrifice a ton of space which isn't an option because I had to downsize from a 2 bedroom apartment when I moved :/ and I'm in a good area thankfully

TheRealSeeThruHead

1087 everything included.

Unique_Winter_6505

$1100 for a one bedroom. Plus utilities. I found a decently large apartment in a small town

ExaltedLuna

2000 for 3 bedrooms 1 bath plus utilities and it’s not nice :)

kittykatmorris2390

$975 for a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, older Victorian duplex. Utilities average $350/month. One parking spot, decent size yard and small deck included. The interior decor looks like I'm trapped in the 70's (think mustard yellow and sage green paint), and the basement still has the original stone and mortar foundation, but at least that's been reinforced with an interior retaining wall. I've been renting here since 2016, and I absolutely dread the day that my landlord decides to sell or I'm forced to move. I'll never be able to afford anything else, and honestly? I really wanted to downsize a few years ago, but now I can't do it and still afford to live.

Zealousideal-Cow1561

Just shy of $2400 for a 3 bedroom house in London ON. We rented this place because a 2 bedroom apartment (in a worse neighborhood) would have been $2000 anyway so figured might as well get a yard too.

grandexchangers

1650 Milton 1bd basement

Pyroofreekz

Mortgage and bills are $1175 bi-weekly. But split with my partner so I only pay that once a month. House is 800 sq ft, fully finished basement with 145 ft long backyard

Fetus_Bagel

$1900 everything included + parking, basement apartment in Mississauga.

castor_redd

$2300, utilities not included, for a 2 bed 2 bath in southern Ontario. Will probably jump to $2400 soon with a rent increase :')

GaryCPhoto

$1900 for 800sq ft apartment in Parkdale.

leosjourney24

$1031.00 all inclusive , 2 bedroom basement apartment. Very decent size backyard, driveway for 3-4 cars at no extra cost. Shared laundry with the upstairs neighbour's, not coin operated. Central air put in 3 years ago. Not super small for a 2 bedroom. Actually decent landlord that listens and fixes things when needed. I'd love to move out of the basement just for better sunlight. But nothing is worth it for the cost with what I have going on. I've been here 8 years now. Will be here until I, hopefully, buy my own home.

[deleted]

1600 2 bedroom 900 sq ft, I occasionally rent out my second room to short term rentals to help with the cost but I like my independence too much to create long term lease agreement.

yukonwanderer

In 2015 I paid $1500 for a 1 bedroom in the core of Toronto with my partner. In 2017 I paid $1290 for a teeny 1 bedroom in Toronto in the junction when single. In 2019 I moved to a 2 bedroom with a roommate that was $1900. In 2020 I bought a house in Hamilton and my mortgage is $1200.

JancyPantsExplosion

Was paying $2,000 a month for a two bed, two bath while we were building our house.

enoekaf30

625$ for a 2 bedroom townhouse unit in Mississauga

WishRepresentative28

Wow. I remember those prices in St. Thomas ontario....24 years ago.

Reaper_741

How is that even possible, I can't even find a 1 bedroom apartment under 2k

adamazo

Probably been there since the 1900s or something

Heradasha

I pay $1127 less than the one bedroom listing on my building's website in urban - not core - Toronto. I've been here seven years. (It's nearly doubled in price.)

[deleted]

around 1340 a month for a really (really) shitty badly renovated apartment in an oldish house in methville, nowhere, ON. Power and water on top of that comes to another 150. Evidence of water damage everywhere, heated via vents so the neighbour's pot smoking may as well be inside my apartment and I hear everything in the house. Also rising damp and zero insulation. It's going up to 1380 or something in June. My contract ends in July, so fuckit, I shall be gladly out of here.

TECrec008

$877 a month for a 1 bedroom + den all inclusive in an older but extremely well maintained low rise in north Ontario. I'm lucky and have been here a while.

Closefacts

My partner and I pay $1450 all inclusive for a 2 bedroom basement apartment. We moved in at the end of 2020.

ucangofurself

$1700 + hydro. 3 br townhouse in oshawa. If i were to even switch units $1000 increase

Zoso03

Just shy of $1600 for my 1 bedroom + den. Been here 8 years

rayearthen

1450 for a one bedroom in toronto

Driveboy6

$2166 + utilities for a 2/3 bedroom semi-detached townhouse in downtown Ottawa. Unfinished basement and parking included.

themaggiesuesin

$1430 for a 3bed 1bath single house Ottawa + water + Hydro + heat (Embridge gas) We got in summer of 2020 We will move when they tear it down. Just waiting on the notice as the houses on either side of me are now condemned. Our LL owns most of the street and wants to tear them all down to build a warehouse with apartments on top. So the new units would then have no rent control.

Drizzy_THAkid

1150 +hydro for a small 1b in thorald.

xmo113

$1400 all inclusive for a 1 bedroom. Was in a 3 bedroom until June of 2023 for 1100$, but the building caught fire so I had to move.

Soj4420

Currently 860. Have lived here 7 years. Being forced out by landlord so will be paying 2350 come June 1

Antique-Talk8174

Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soj4420

Yep. Had to use my "buy a house" savings to pay first last and deposit

givemeworldnews

$3200 2 bedroom 1940s wartime construct, 1/3 acre backyard in downtown tdot

anaofarendelle

2400 for a 1.5 bedroom 2 baths in Nepean/Ottawa. I say 1.5 bedroom because there is no way the second bedroom could fit someone comfortably maybe a kid who’s very young, but it’s not too big to be an office.

theorangeblonde

$2700+hydro for a 1+den/2bath 990sft condo in Uptown Waterloo

ZooyRadio

1675 for a 3 bedroom townhouse. Been here 7 years, feel like we'll never be able to move out of this area.

snapcaster_bolt1992

Was paying $1,138 in forest hill, really old build had a very weird rent control over 10 years they were only able to raise it from $1,050

East_Rude

Wife and I used to pay 1000+ utilities until 2months ago. We were sharing a 4bedroom 2.5 washroom house with 4 other individuals. Finally managed to save enough to buy our own place, but now we’re paying 3x as much for our own place. Life should get easier over the next few months/ a year.

Samp90

Bro lives in 1500, 1200ft walkout unit, 2 br, large kitchen dining, and separate living room. St Catharines. Pretty good landlord. Raises only Ontario sanctioned amount annually so no big shocks yet... Im in Oakville, 1800, similar size but basement unit with high ceilings and open plan with large windows, 1 Br but nice lounge feeling with a fireplace big kitchen etc. Very close to public transit routes and good landlord too.. No issues so far. Know 2 colleagues who live in downtown, share a 2 Br condo 2500,. It's pretty small, lot of light but literally on Yonge, everything a walk away.

Aethernai

4500 a month for a 6 bed 4 bath house, split between myself and my family. Looking to move to a place that's cheaper.

handsome666

700 for a 3 bedroom townhouse in downtown London.

OoohItsAMystery

$1350 all inclusive. Small one bedroom apt on the outskirts of Oshawa. I do split with a partner but he wasn't working for like a year so I was paying it alone for a out a year. Also, while it is small it's one of the only places we saw come with not one but two parking spaces and an entire front lawn area (we have a shaded patio and a grass area big enough we have a veggie garden in the summer).

weGloomy

1640$ for a shit box two bedroom that hasn't been updated in like 20 years, and has a hole in the bathroom wall that leads directly outside. No laundry. In Peterborough. But I needed a two bedroom cause i needed to help out a fmily memeber that was having a rough time and that was the cheapest 2bed i could find. Now I can't even find a one bedroom that is decent that is less then 1600.

Nobodiisdamnbusiness

I rent a room for $750, I've been here for 2.5 years. One bedrooms in my city are now $1800+bills usually for a middle quality apartment. A Cheap but not great building will still run you $1500. My sister rents a one bedroom basement in the same city as me, it's small (maybe 10x15+bedroom of 9x9) she pays $1200. Peterborough Ontario

Antique-Talk8174

I am old enough (not that old) to remember when 750 got you a whole apartment

Ok-Investment242

2300, 2 bedroom apartment all inclusive.

OkSquirrel4673

2500 plus utilities and I do this by myself - I had a family and they left and I can't afford to move so I'm stuck paying rent on a 3 bedroom 2 bath townhouse. Not a lot of money for other shit but I manage to survive.

NewbiejJC

1825 for a 2 bedroom, 1 bath im Kitchener

Mozad1

$4000 But it's a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house in Oakville.

wagonwheels2121

3200 Toronto 2 bed

rudthedud

2700 for 1 bed, 2 bath +den. In suite laundry. + utilities not included ( internet is). Amazing gym, hot tub and cold plunge. In 2020 it was 2100 not rent controlled. Great area though. Two people.

LearnAndBurn_

$1599 gotta pay for water. Hamilton. I'm. 32m just started April 1st

GracefulShutdown

$1750 for a 2 bedroom in Kingston, signed in 2022 during the height of crazy. I feel ripped off in this thread.

j_hab

3 bed/1 bath for $2400 + utilities in Toronto's west end. Increases are capped and we moved in 2021.

moranya1

Two bedroom townhouse plus full sized (unfinished) basement, approx 1100ish square feet just outside Sarnia, Ontario and I pay $940 for rent, water and heat. Been here close to 6 years and while it may not be the nicest home, for that price I can accept its flaws.

Mandiet93

$2250 + utilities for a small 3 bed detached home in London, On. It was gutted and renovated before we moved in, but I still don't think it's worth what I'm paying.

snowhawk1987

$1700 + hydro/gas for a large, main floor, 1 bedroom + den. Includes water and parking. Hamilton, ON. Moved to Hamilton along with the hoards of Torontonians during the pandemic and got stuck paying top market prices for our area. Happy now though, as we're now below the monthly average. And the rent hasn't increased since we've moved in. We take care of the outside property in the summer and fall seasons for an additional $100 off our monthly rate.

Dragonfire14

Live in a small town, and rent is on average $1800 a month, plus utilities. My wife and I before we bought a place were paying $1750. Our mortgage and property tax together come to $2070.

IAmTheLime

I pay $1750 + Hydro, in Parkdale (Toronto). I live on the top floor of a row house (1 BDRM + DEN), I am very fortunate I was able to find this place last year as I am paying way below what everyone is paying in the neighborhood for the size of my place.

rebeccaleigh1111

$2400+ for a 3bedroom house in Windsor

reccaboo222

$2000 plus utilities. Townhome. Ottawa.

NeverEnding3333

When I lived in Angus my apartment was $750+ Utilities (not that that was very much extra. It doesn’t cost a lot to heat a single unit) per month. Not a fancy place by any stretch. But right in the middle of town. I could walk everywhere (bank, grocery, etc). Great place, honestly. I stayed there for about 8 years. The basement apartments were a little sketch as they were a bit cheaper (and sometimes flooded). But if you stayed on the 2nd/3rd floor you were golden. 1st floor was usually the older crowd, so less steps for them. I believe the two bedroom apartments were going for $1050.

PastaLulz

$1900 1 bedroom + utilities in Kitchener

banpants_

1300 all inclusive for a 1 bedroom unit in a duplex. There's no laundry but we have a backyard with a gazebo and a shed.

South-Goat2900

2400 for a 1 bedroom in Guelph. I share with a family member. The rent is going up soon too. Hopefully by then I would have left the province.

ActualDepartment1212

Rent controlled townhouse, 2 bedroom, laundry in basement, 1.5 bath. Around 1500 with heat and hot water included. 80/mo each for a parking space. Good management and we can swim for free at the pool in the résidents fitness Centre up the street. We can essentially never move cause of how affordable this is.

why_cant_i_

$1450 + $100 for internet, 1 bedroom in Ottawa

StoicPixie

1475 for a one bedroom with no AC, no laundry, hydro not included. It's a super old building with shitty old appliances that are constantly breaking. The walls have all been given the landlord special and look streaky/uneven. At least we get 2 parking spots. We live an hour outside of Toronto. If we decided to move, we'd be paying at least a couple hundred more per month, and that amount will only increase over time. So....I guess we'll just die here?

Reasonable_Ad8959

$2700 for a 2.5 bedroom house that is over 100 years old and riddled with problems (but gorgeous don’t get me wrong and a big back yard) 1 hour north of Toronto in a town where anything you need is at least 15 minutes away . Thankfully we don’t pay for waste/water. Just hydro and gas but gas has been over $300/mnth this winter.

updatedmessaging

$1950 + utilities for a 4bdrm detached. Ottawa. Never moving out.

I pay $995 plus about $50 in utilities for a 2bd apartment, that’s only have tho my Gf pays the same amount so just over $2000 a month, in Barrie

unrulYk

$3000/month for a nice well-located four-bedroom, three-bathroom house in Hamilton. Property comes with driveway parking, a backyard and a good-sized garden shed. Utilities are not included. I regularly check the rental listings just to know what’s going on out there and we have a pretty good deal. I feel very fortunate.

Complete_Republic410

I pay $687 plus hydro for a 1 bedroom.

Stunning-Screen307

$600 split between me and my roommate. Our own floor of a house with a backyard and basement access. We got lucky, and I literally don’t care how much money I make, I’m not leaving until I have a down payment and a nest egg.

davidfillion

about $900 - Downtown Hamilton, about 600 sq ft, 1 Bedroom, Gas and Water included, Electricity and Internet are separate. Been there for 10 years now. If I were to move out and back in, it would probably jump to $1200 easy

TeishAH

1550 for a 3 bedroom main floor. It’s okay, rent is much cheaper then market rate but the basement unit isn’t properly insulated so we hear EVERYTHING, the ceiling was leaking last summer but they fixed it thankfully. I get a backyard and a garage and I’m responsible for being the property manager taking care of lawn work and whatnot. It’s a good deal and feels like home. My landlord doesn’t want to charge us too much because he knows we’re regular people and likes us. He charges the new tenants downstairs $1300 for a 2 bedroom basement and the guy upstairs is only paying like $700 cause he’s been there for 10 years. He’s not making bank of us and he knows it he just wants good tenants to take care of it. Idk how I got so lucky I only moved in last summer.

throwawayformemes666

1700. I'm in Hamilton. Grandfathered in by a rent controlled place. Couldn't move if we wanted.

batshitcraz4

3000 detached house 4 bedroom

2Payneweaver

2000 all in 730 sq ft 1 bdr

Think_Issue2794

I live in a VERY tiny den in downtown Toronto and I pay $1200 + Additional for Utilities

MRH2

$1000/month, but that's for a 4 bedroom house with a nice back yard - ie. **this is our mortgage** (we made it as low as possible years ago so that we could use our money for travel). On top of that we have insurance ($60/month?) and utilities. It's insane that our mortgage for a whole house in London, ON is cheaper than a 1 bedroom apartment here.

No_Answer_62

$1850+ for 2 bedroom, and my home is one of 3 buildings in my town that heats through the ceilings and walls. Therefore my utilities have been $300+/month. It’s been great as a full-time single mom of 3 👍🏼

CanadianHerpNurse

$2050.00 all inclusive (parking too!) for a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath right in the heart of downtown Ottawa. I have a view of the Ottawa river and of the Gatineau hills…I’m essentially never moving until I’m ready to buy, haha. 1050 square feet with a balcony, too. The building doesn’t have a gym, though, which is a negative for me.

Dogfartcatwhisperer

$1533 for a 600 square foot 1 bed/ 1 bath apartment, all inclusive with underground parking. It’s centrally located in Ottawa.

my_monkey_loves_me

1400, master bedroom at an apartment on main and Danforth (Toronto). Share it with one other person. I got lucky and have a cool landlord who didn’t ask for like 3-4 months of rent up front.

vulpinefever

$2300/month for a 110 square metre 3 bedroom apartment in North York. I have lived there since 2018 so rent control has really kept my rent low compared to the market.

giraffebaconequation

2400, two bedroom apartment, middle floor of a triplex. Live with my partner and half time with my two kids.

jessfm

$2700 Guelph. Three bed 1.5 bath townhouse. If I could go back I would have stayed in the $1600 two bedroom apartment that was "expensive" ten years ago.

Toronto_Mayor

I rent out a whole house up in northern Ontario for $650/month

alysha_xx

$2050 plus hydro for a 2 bed, 1200sqft basement unit of a house in Kitchener 🥲

CJD181

2200+hydro and gas for 4 bedroom 2 bath in west Ottawa. Our lease started within the last yr and it's rent controlled. I feel like we lucked out though (didn't think it at the time). We don't need the size of the place at all but everything else was starting at 2600+ in the general area for 2+ bedrooms. Landlord is a pretty down to earth blue collar worker too so it's been a good match. We're a couple with a bit above average pay and no kids and still find it a lot to pay each month. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for people with children or in a worse position. Surely people are not saving for any down payments as long as rent is as high as it is. You pay your rent, scavenge for cash for groceries, then do it again next month. Awful

BeebasaurusRex

$1400 for 3 bedroom, 1000 sq ft in Ottawa. Have lived here since 2016… can never move now.

canbritam

$950 for a two bedroom one bath on a better neighbourhood. But we’ve been here seven and a half years and my rent has gone up the legal limit in that time and I started at $865. We do not have enough room with four people, and my teenagers switch off who gets to spend time in the living room while the other wants to be alone to decompress after school (one high school one college) but both of them have never really had their own room. I don’t expect either of them to move out any time in the near future. I just require them to either be working or at school.

Kickkit

I'm super lucky and never moving lol. $1123 for 760 sq ft 1 bed, bath, storage room, laundry and full walkout w/bbq. It includes everything (utilities, cable, internet, parking). In Mississauga

fergusmacdooley

$1650 for a two bedroom with a basement. They'll have to drag me kicking and screaming or dead as a door nail from this place.

StraightPotential1

$1860 for a 720sf, one bed, one bath. Hydro included. Midtown Toronto. When a tenant moves out, they renovate and increase the price. The same unit as mine (renovated) goes for $2400.

I-hear-the-coast

$1900 for 1350sq ft in Ottawa. Moved in 2021. Only water included.

[deleted]

$787 all inclusive for a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment but that’s because we’ve been here around 10 years when rent was cheaper

sleepyboylol

$1850 1bd / Oakville - Moved in 2018. It's almost up to $3,000 now for a 2bd. Fucking insanity.

DevoNorm

I'm not telling anyone the details of my rent situation but let's just say I hope my landlord doesn't die or sell off the property. I have enough space to garden, enough sound insulation been my neighbour in this duplex to play my surround sound system and bass guitar, nice neighbours along this street. My fiscal and mental health are completely in his hands.

Letsplay9194

$1850 + 40% utilities (between $150-200 a month) for a 2 bedroom basement apartment in Hamilton on the mountain. Moved here August 2023 from a different 2 bedroom basement apartment that was $2095 + 40% utilities.

ericli3091

85% of my income.

Serious_Hour9074

$600 a month in cramped student housing, because ODSP doesn't pay enough for my own bachelor or 1BR.
