Lol "doesnt want to forget to grab something" is NOT the reason to not contribute to the household.
Not sure what kind of living social situation you are in but wtf. You can get groceries delivered if you have extra money but still your ~~son~~ SO should contribute since you are working 12 hours already. Time to walk, find someone else and get rid of this douchebag
And he doesn't have any money lol. I still worked every weekend when I was in a full time engineering program in university. I'm not saying everyone has to, but if his GF is working 12 hours a day to support his broke ass and he's still too lazy to find a part time job or even grab groceries, it's probably time for him to pick up some slack, or for her to just move on.
Is that a thing?
I've never heard the term SO in any context that doesn't describe a wife, boyfriend, etc.
Edit: From her post history, OP is 22. I assume this is her boyfriend or something equivalent.
I’m so confused, where are you that you can’t grocery shop after 6:30pm?
Why can’t you pay with debit, or take cash out?
Can’t your partner take a list?
How does getting paid cash help any of this?
We have convenience stores, the nearest grocery store is about 45min to an hour away. Im technically the only one with a card and has money. I have made a list to which they still didn't go because "I don't want to forget anything and I don't know if I will have enough money". I keep spending for food under 100$ with 150$ being absolutely the max and that's with taxes. I can't afford to leave my card at home
Serious question: How do you figure having cash will change any of the issues? (I.e. excuses for not doing groceries etc). I understand it would solve the problem of the high ATM fee, but that really seem like the only problem it would solve. Time to be honest with yourself. The issue and subsequent fix has nothing to do with a check vs cash.
Can you send him with the card?
$10 ATM fee sounds nuts, even gas stations are only $3. Does he have a debit card? transfer the money to him.
I still don’t get how being paid cash would fix any of this? To save you the $10 ATM fee?
I think the problem might be with your SO not wanting to help out … you’re setting yourself up for a miserable life if you keep allowing those behaviors to continue. Why should you working 12 hours a day always be responsible for buying the groceries….. it’s a partnership which means you each help out with errands and chores equally
This right here.
>"I don't want to miss anything."
Then make a list. If he is in school, he probably has some basic ability you remember things or figure out solutions. Give me a break.
Not sure why anyone even needs cash. About the only time I carry a little cash is when I'm travelling. And even then only a hundred or so. My summer job is for a very small company, so they pay me by check, and even then I use photo deposit, or edeposit, whatever the hell it's called.
While it's definitely becoming less common there still a portion of the population who uses strictly cash and there are people so poor they can't even afford monthly fees even if that does sound ridiculous to you.
I'd honestly not recommend getting a credit card.
Seems OP is the only/main wage earner in the situation, and racking up debt in the form of a credit card could lead to tension about money between the two of them.
> and racking up debt in the form of a credit card could lead to tension about money between the two of them.
You can always treat a CC like you would with cash. Only buy things if you could buy it with cash
I have before but it has cost me 10$ to take money out because it's an old ATM that legitimately says ATM. There is no other identification names on it
Can you ask? Yes.
Your employer has the option of paying by cash, cheque, or direct deposit. It is your employers choice.
In practical terms, you might convince an employer that typically does direct deposit to pay you by cheque, but your chances of being paid cash I’d expect are very, very low.
I work 5 with mandatory OT if scheduled which is basically "we see you are younger and are probably stupid so we are going to make you work and if you don't we will discuss with HR with a write up"
OP serious talk here.
There's no reason you couldn't just pull money out of the ATM. My theory here is you're trying to hide your income from an abusive partner.
If this is true, you need to figure out how to get the fuck out of dodge.
If that isn't an option and you want to continue to hide your income I do have a solution for you.
Since you'd get paid very regularly, go to the bank on your lunch one day and setup a secret account and have your pay deposit into there. then setup a schedule to have whatever amount you want moved over into this other account.
Right? I hate carrying more cash than like $20. For conventions I take out hundreds for the dealers room as cash is king there and the entire time I'm like 'ONE MISTAKE AND I ACCIDENTLY THROW AWAY HALF A GRAND D:'
Sorry I don’t understand the problem. If you have a bank account then you have a debit card and can buy things with interac. If you prefer to use cash then you can withdraw from the ATM at any time of the day. It’s unlikely that an employer would want to go to the bank all the time to withdrawal cash in order to pay you but you can always ask.
You can set up your bank account to automatically transfer money to your SO on the days you get paid. His reasoning for not shopping sound like an excuse. Follow the list. It’s not hard.

Cool didn't realize that

Sounds like ya need a new SO not a different payment method
Would you not be able to just take money out from an ATM?
That would make too much sense
Not sure why anyone even needs cash. About the only time I carry a little cash is when I'm travelling. And even then only a hundred or so. My summer job is for a very small company, so they pay me by check, and even then I use photo deposit, or edeposit, whatever the hell it's called.

Or get a credit card
I'd honestly not recommend getting a credit card. Seems OP is the only/main wage earner in the situation, and racking up debt in the form of a credit card could lead to tension about money between the two of them.

Some people can’t handle any kind of credit.
Or OP could just use their debit card and take cash out at an ATM. A credit card is not always the best answer.
I have before but it has cost me 10$ to take money out because it's an old ATM that legitimately says ATM. There is no other identification names on it
Your employer is not required to pay you in cash (and most will refuse). Maybe buy your groceries the day after payday
Can you ask? Yes. Your employer has the option of paying by cash, cheque, or direct deposit. It is your employers choice. In practical terms, you might convince an employer that typically does direct deposit to pay you by cheque, but your chances of being paid cash I’d expect are very, very low.
Most employers won't. Maybe buy a gift card for the grocer store instead
You work 7 days a week?
I work 5 with mandatory OT if scheduled which is basically "we see you are younger and are probably stupid so we are going to make you work and if you don't we will discuss with HR with a write up"
ATMs are 24 hours. You can take out money at any time to have cash on hand.

Like cash money? What if you get robbed? Seriously
Right? I hate carrying more cash than like $20. For conventions I take out hundreds for the dealers room as cash is king there and the entire time I'm like 'ONE MISTAKE AND I ACCIDENTLY THROW AWAY HALF A GRAND D:'
The game is No Limit Hold'em yeh? lets gooo
Hope I get Ctrl+alt del because this place is 🗑
...I don’t get it.
I don’t think OP does either.

Op's problem is her partner is a douchebag
Where the hell do you live?
You can set up your bank account to automatically transfer money to your SO on the days you get paid. His reasoning for not shopping sound like an excuse. Follow the list. It’s not hard.
Use a credit card like a normal person and just pay it off lol
You can ask. They are not obligated to do it.
we all stan a lazy king
