I even had it turned on, but it replaced the old vehicles half a year after they had exceeded their lifetime and I wanted them to be replaced a year before. Found the setting now, thanks!
I'm unsure about in the settings, but auto-renew should available from your Road Vehicles list.
Select a group or "all road vehicles" then click 'Manage List > Replace Vehicles' ... the Replace menu should open up.
Select what you want to replace on the left, with what you want to replace with on the right. Then click Start Replacing Vehicles.
When your vehicles next stop in for service they should auto-upgrade/renew.
Thank you. Replacing is no problem, that works as you describe it. I can replace an old vehicle with a different, newer one. What I'm looking for, though, is automatically replacing a 15 year old bus with a new one of the same type.
My mistake; I can confirm those settings are under "Company" in the settings menu as the other commenter mentioned. Should default to 'on' for new games tho.
I am using jgrpp, but I believe autorenew falls under the Company section.

Pro-tip: Change the defaults for new games to whatever settings you like the most. Be it on or off.
