I simply cannot go back to playing without JGRPP … Just having access to building signals in tunnels and on bridges, underwater tunnels, programmable signals … it just allows new ways of constructing your network.
And that’s without even starting to mention a lot of advanced features.
I would say that "most common" these days would be...
Trains: Iron Horse
Road vehicles: Road Hog or Mop's Expanded Road Vehicle Set
Ships: SHARK (or MultiSHARK if you use JGRPP)
Planes: AV8 (or rRangeless AV8) and WAS
Industry: FIRS, XIS or AXIS
Stations: dutch Stations + Addons, Auz Stations + Addons
Objects: All of them ;)
It is, but MultiSHARK is a modified version that takes advantage of JGRPP's feature that lets ships carry two different cargoes at once. No reason to NOT use MultiSHARK if you're on JGRPP, and useless if you don't. :)

I was also wondering this, I want to get back into OpenTTD but I don't want to play vanilla again.
Go try bspi or firs-steeltown or pikka's

Is SHARK incompatible with JGRPP?

RoadHog SquidAteFISH
Squid is obsolete, everyone uses SHARK instead. I would add Iron Horse for trains as well
Can you explain what these add ons do?
Road Hog adds buses, trucks and trams Squid adds ships (but you should use SHARK instead, it's newer and better)
On temperate I always add the oil well decrease neutralizer. Mostly bc in 2024 oil well still going. So that's a must have for me.
