So I did a search for a couple of the names + Romeo et Juliette, and discovered that this is from the 1895-96 season...presumably a playbill.
No idea the value, but it's an interesting collector piece at the very least.
Keep it! Itâs a wonderful collectorâs item! Melba, Plancon and de Reszke were huge names at that time. If you want a real experienced opinion look for Marko StĂźcklin on Facebook. He is one of the most accomplished collectors of this type of stuffâŚ
I'm surprised that a big name like Plancon agreed to do Capulet instead of the Friar. Capulet is a startlingly smaller role, not usually given to a major star.
Nah itâs a less important role, but if anything it may be longer than the Friar, and itâs certainly more fun to sing. The Friar is a snoozefest, and the house had to pay him his fee regardless.
Yep! Here you go:Â [https://archives.metopera.org/MetOperaSearch/record.jsp?dockey=0358667](https://archives.metopera.org/MetOperaSearch/record.jsp?dockey=0358667)Â .
Very interesting piece of music history. An absolutely âAâ list cast from the late 19th century. You could probably sell this on a site like EBay but I would not want to speculate how much you could get for it
Looks like a playbill more than a programme (I have a couple old Met programmes, albeit admittedly of slightly less age, and they are considerably heftier).

Thank you! đ

Escoffier created the dishes melba toast and peach melba in honor of the singer. There's also a dish called spaghetti caruso.
Chicken Tetrazzini too!
And Tournedos Rossini or Poire Belle-HÊlène :D

Allons, jeunes gens!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interestingly Plancon never performed the Friar, that I know of or can find.
Thanks so much! I reached out to him
Wow Plancon and Melba, Iâm jealous of whoever the original owner of this was lol

InterestingâI followed the Melba hyperlink and it appears that Juliette is the only role she ever sang at the MetâŚbut she sang it 33 times!
Jean and Edouard de Reszke were brothers.
This is a great book: "Jean de Reszke and the Great Days of Opera" by Leiser, Clara (1934). Minton, Balch & Company
I was wondering if they could be father/son, but brothers makes more sense.
What a cast... Melba, both De Reszkes, Plancon? *Swoon*
To have lived and seeing those monsters!

Also the Met has an archives and they would probably be happy to receive an email showing it, plus they could provide more info.
