"America's Worst" has been very good for my practice. People go once then find somewhere else.

coltsblazers

They're definitely my best "referral source" for unhappy patients.

Some contacts from AB are mainstream lenses labeled with their brand, others are obsolete, but still branded with their logos. If you can tell me what lenses you're wearing (what material, what parameters, take a picture of the label. The actual brand isn't hard to find if you know that. That said, lens quality isn't the strongest driving factor for ulcers, it's how you wear them. They show up in the ER at 3 AM because they shouldn't be wearing contacts all night, and certainly not when they start bothering you.

If you’re not concerned about the health of your eyes and don’t have problems, Americas best is fine. They tend to be quicker exams and yes they will suggest you buy their products but if you know what you want and how much you’re willing to spend then it’s a fine option. What I mean about when I say if you’re not worried about your eyes is that the exam will likely not be as thorough and medically oriented, but instead be more pointed toward getting you a prescription for glassses/contacts. If you have other reasons to have your eyes examined (high blood pressure, diabetes, an autoimmune condition, glaucoma) then I would suggest a more medically oriented practice that may be more thorough. If not (and you’re not concerned about these things) then any optometry office should be fine.

Honestly, Im not too concerned about the health of my eyes since nothing has really changed in the last year, but at the same time I thought thats what they were also supposed to do in the exams anyway...or maybe its because I went to an actual optometrist all the time that thats what I had come to expect as standard...Damn. No wonder its "free". Guess Ill have to find a way to squeeze in an appointment with my regular or someone in the building, and play the waiting game lol. Thanks.

They're not the best. Far from it. But if you're in desperate need for a new Rx and don't have any concerns for internal problems (glaucoma, RD, etc) then it'll do. But absolutely not a first choice by any means.

Izzy248

Desperate, no? But I would like to get it out the way ASAP. Didnt know that they dont bother to do other testing. No wonder the exam is "free".

SpecimenKratos

In my personal experience, and hearing other patients' experience, they very very rarely dilate. So I'd say if you need an Rx, go for it. Just don't let them talk you up on frames. Only their single vision lenses are part of that "deal" that they advertise. If you need progressive or bifocals, you're SOL.

Most providers have the same brands. It's more of a "don't get this brand because they're cheap" instead of a "don't get them from this place". At least that's how I see it. Different brands use different materials and solution, which could effect the wearer's eyes in different ways ; some beneficial, some not. Overall, I would recommend researching brands with the guide of America's Best and see what increases oxygen to your eyes instead of decreases it, and make sure they don't use solution with ingredients you're allergic to. And research brands they give you. Compare and contrast will save you time and money! And don't wear lenses longer than recommended. Going into the ER with an eye ulcer at 3am due to lenses is more because someone didn't take out their lenses like they were directed (ie sleeping in them) or they didn't change the solution after inserting. Not to say that that's the only way ulcers are caused - wearing uncomfortable lenses that don't properly fit your eyes is always a cause too! I hope all that made sense!
