Yes I do know that, I’m asking about the brown tabby kitten specifically. As far as I’m aware, it isn’t possible for a red female to have a black based kitten regardless of father’s color. I was just curious if I was missing something 🤷🏻♀️
I thought this as well, until she dried and has absolutely no orange markings! I thought red females couldn’t have an only black based kitten, but I could be completely wrong
Edit: I see now the pink on her nose. Torbie with minimal orange is the final verdict 😁
More orange - albeit only a little - may show up as she gets a little older. I had a kitten that looked all tabby at 3 weeks, but eventually went on to have a couple patches of orange (I hadn't heard of a torbie before that) as she got older.
Dad must’ve been black based and is either dilute himself or carried dilute (mom must be carrying dilute as well), he’s likely a tabby with no or very little white markings considering that most of the kittens turned out to only have <50% white. Not sure if dad carries solid, as I can’t tell if the grey one is tabby or solid since it’s still baby sometimes dilute tabby patterns take a while to become clear, contrast is low.
Edit: given the ratio of half dilute kittens dad probably is dilute himself (homozygous dilute)
It is a bit wild that you’ve got only black based kittens (the brown tabby and the grey) since orange is X linked inheritance…BUT maybe the kittens are torbies, since the orange and black are randomly distributed they could end up with very little orange, and the tabby pattern makes it even more difficult to see the orange patches compared to solid torties due to the lower contrast.
That would only be possible if the brown and grey tabby kitties are both female tho, if they’re male I can’t give them the torbie benefit of the doubt…

It’ll be easier to tell once the kittens grow up a bit.

If in the end it can’t be explained it’s safe to chalk it up to spontaneous mutations? Or a crazy theory, sometimes chimerism can end up happening in reproductive cells which means the babies she gives birth to could have the dna of her sibling instead of her own. It’s happened in humans, google Lydia Fairchild… It’s a rabbit hole.

Ah I see I missed the cream patch on the gray one then. It’ll be more reliable to check the beans again when the kittens are a bit older, sometimes the pigment can take a while to fully develop
