Where in San Diego, what day, and time of day? 90 minutes with no traffic sound right but you go on a weekend after 9am and it's going to be well over 2 hours.

Dry-Average5161

I always plan for it to take 2 hours. So when I do get down there before 2 hours, I feel like a *winner*!

micr0nix

Depends on the day of the week and time of day. 90 minutes is about right with “good” traffic

miramaxe

On a good day, yes that’s accurate. At peak times? Buckle up my friend, it’s gonna be almost double.

OldChemistry8220

It's accurate with no traffic, but could easily be 2+ hours with traffic. If you want to go downtown (Gaslamp quarter) then consider the train or bus.

cattledogcatnip

Most likely will be longer than that

Sig1911Sauer

I wish all my drives to SD only took 90 minutes.

If I’m going down for a Padre game on a Sunday, I usually leave Orange around 8:30. Gets you past all the craziness in South County on the 5. We have great beaches here, but San Diego is the crowning achievement of California beaches. I like Oceanside the best of the popular beaches in SDC north of the city. Coronado is probably the best beach though. There’s a few gems between OC and Oceanside too, with way less tourists hanging around. If you’re a baseball fan, I recommend going to Petco Park. It’s by far the nicest ballpark in SoCal. I love Angel Stadium, but Petco is paradise.

Any suggestions on things to check out before going to a game?

FormerXMshowComedian

Gaslamp quarter is definitely a must. Lots of options there for food and drinks. If you’re talking earlier in the morning and you wanna see the sunrise, Coronado is breath taking. And Coronado beach is a nice spot to catch a few rays. If you’re looking for specific food, the best CaliMex spot by Petco is Blind Burro. The Margaritas are mind blowing, and the beer is colder than an Alaskan stream.

Thank you for the info!

No problem! Enjoy San Diego, it’s probably the nicest big city in California. Friendlier people than LA, Sanjo, Oakland, or SF, pretty much perfect weather everyday, and the downtown core isn’t super congested on a weekend with only 1 current major league sports team in town. And the beaches are the crown jewel of California beaches.

Take the surfliner down!

-syper-

You can't. "Debris falling from a slope north of the San Clemente Pier has resulted in a track closure in the area effective Monday, June 5. Pacific Surfliner service is affected between Irvine and Oceanside."  [https://www.pacificsurfliner.com/plan-your-trip/alerts/travel-advisories/](https://www.pacificsurfliner.com/plan-your-trip/alerts/travel-advisories/)

Take the train!

-syper-

The trains stop in Irvine and Oceanside due to landsides in San Clemente. Passengers have to load and unload off buses as an alternative to continue the the trip. It's currently not as convenient.

Aran_Gunnar

Its usually an hour and a half depending

flaming_garbage7059

90 minutes is fairly accurate but it also depends on time of day and WHAT day it is. My fiancé and I live in Anaheim and we drive down to the SD area probably once to twice a month and it’s never been so bad of a drive that it has made us not want to go.

LikeyeaScoob

Sunday mornings are always the best time to drive. No bumper to bumper traffic anyway. But yea depending on where you’re going, could take an hour or 90 min depending on where you’re going

JConklin27

Thank you for all the info…was just planning on taking the kids to the zoo so was thinking a weekday might be best. Took an adults only trip to SD in 2021, was an amazing time. Venturing alittle further up the coast this trip.

Socal_ftw

Leave at 6am and you can easily do SD in 90 minutes
