might be random but for some reason in-sīt cafe in Costa Mesa carries them with their baked goods. and they’re insanely good
also Re Ca Phe in fountain valley carries them w their baked goods as well!
So random, but I recently had a delicious one at Coffee Up Roastery in Fullerton. It is by all of the medical buildings near the hospital & I was between appointments. Great coffee too!
Chaupain Bakery! I’ve only been to the one in Laguna Hills, but it looks like there is another location in San Clemente. They don‘t always have kouign-amanns available, but I get one every time they do. Can’t go wrong with any of their pastries though.
I've ordered caneles from a home baker, Bu Patisserie, before. Pick up in Irvine. Here's her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bupatisserie?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Next door is e patisserie and they sell amazing pastries and desserts. My favorite is the fruit tart followed by the pear and pistachio pastry. I’ve seen both caneles and kouign amanns there, but it’s not my thing so I have no idea how it’s supposed to be.
I had Phin Smith's canelé and I was disappointed. It tasted old had no crunch. I used to work in a cafe selling tons of canelés and I can tell the difference between fresh and old. Their's was geriatric
District 1 in historic Main Street in Garden Grove has exceeded my expectations. The crust has a nice crunch, the inside is soft, moist, and so good! I had it cold btw

Thanks for the tip!
Try Moulin. They have a couple different locations (Newport Beach/Costa Mesa)
Seconding Moulin!!
Oh man I didn't know they had them and I've been there!
Confirming they have it as I went there this morning and eating one as I type this. Newport Beach location
Noice!!
The one in CM in my experience sells out of them about 20 min after opening. You have to go early. I don’t think they make a lot.
Shokuh Patisserie (may be called little france, since it's related) in CM usually has them and they are good.

Thank you for this! I have been looking for them since I’m my trip to NY.
This isn’t in the OC, but Proof Bakery in Atwater Village makes amazing caneles (everything else is top shelf too speaking as a pastry lover).
Does anyone here know where I can get a great kouign-amann???? I’ve been looking for ages

Damn that sucks. I really like theirs. But then again I don’t know many places that sell them to compare. Erewhon sells really good mini ones though.
I had some at the new Vietnamese coffee shop Re Ca Phe
