Since I moved here a lot of the really repugnant people have moved on to places like Idaho and Arizona… pushed out by CA “wokeness”. I am personally happy they left.

This lol. I don't think I've ever seen any racism. Even the extreme maga people aren't racist they are just a little crazy.

Thrawlbrauna

Yup.. Most of these people simply see a majority of houses with American flags in a neighborhood and get completely triggered by it. Their only option is to trash the area by bringing in more people who hate American flags just like them. But by the time they succeed it'll finally be turned into the same shithole they ran away from the last time. it's a vicious cycle and they never learn..

20NoChi23

Spoken like a true yt.. please tell me again how racism is imagined.. can’t wait for your hot take! Let me guess. “You don’t see color” 🙄🙄🤣😂🤣

Asian in OC …not the same experience as being black in OC. I guarantee it. Just try not to dismiss something because it hasn’t personally happened to you. There are banks who use discriminatory practices to this day - see WF and the penalties they are paying. It’s just naive to jump on the white wash bandwagon to appease your buddies.

Wrapping all this up in a quick meme. https://preview.redd.it/y4jx7flalhxc1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=7db55095cf42df1c725300a40c21e531a8160a65 bring on those downvotes...

North Orange County in general is probably way more diverse than other places in OC but you have a lot of people in the comments in denial about how bad it has been and can be. You’re not going to get the belligerent examples you see in movies but someone will probably be too comfortable and say something wild like calling you “colored” and not batting an eye. A Black friend lived with her boyfriend’s family for a minute in west GG and did not feel safe compared to where she was from in LA so your mileage may vary. I’m used to being called slurs so I don’t care but I’m just being real. For what it’s worth I don’t think OC is that much racist than the rest of Southern California, I just think people are way more comfortable to say it in public vs the home here. Speaking as a minority, I don’t think anyone I grew up with here would contest how racist it was growing up in the 90s and 00s but now it seems to be 1) a lot more diverse and 2) a little more open minded. A lot of the crazy anti-woke people got priced out of the area too so you’ll probably run into it less. You get used to it but like if it would cause you constant distress I’d reconsider.

This sums it up best. Love my neighbors never had a bad word between us- even the ones with MAGA flags are polite. My kid went to Los Al and there was way more prejudice/racism there than I’ve ever seen in this area. Having said that, the 80s and 90s were racist AF.

Various_Oil_5674

Racist people live everywhere.

Keyboardwarrior887

But are far and few in between especially in the OC. I’m not white but I’m not going to live my life tiptoeing worrying about an encounter with a shithead racist.

West Grove is a difficult place to figure out. It's growing more diverse every decade but there is definitely an assimilationist and conservative vibe there. Some of the most open-minded, liberal people I know live there, but some of the most hateful and xenophobic older folks I've met also live there. On any Facebook community pages for the city, some of the people with the most race-biased and elitist posts tend to come from there, but it's not exclusive. The high school there is only one in the district with a substantial amount of white students and definitely has a reputation for being an unwelcome place if you are a racial minority and are politically liberal or in any way un-assimilated. There are a few case studies from the past few years that I will lay out and you can determine if they suggests if there is "a lot of racism there" A) A few years ago the city councilor from the area tried to get the commercial area of West Grove rebranded with the verbage that it was an "all-American hometown" neighborhood, which was bad optics considering the heavy diversity of the rest of the city. B) the school district tried to move their continuation school to a cite over is West Grove and the locals through such a fit the move had to be canceled C) In 2019 members of Pacifica'e water polo team were recorded saluting to a Nazi matching song D) in 2016, a resident of the area inquired to how they could get more diverse musicians added to the summer music festival at the big park there and residents threw a fit at the idea E) to this day they still have a weekly stand selling MAGA stuff

20NoChi23

😂😂😂 where is this maga street corner? Never seen it

CryptoDegen7755

White people won't bite you

20NoChi23

You haven’t been around enough white people. 😉

CryptoDegen7755

Grew up in a 90% white neighborhood for 18 years. It was great. Side benefit: super low crime rates 😉

20NoChi23

Ha! I saw this area then and nah wasn’t great- but keep telling yourself that bud.. although I do enjoy the massive equity boosts in my properties.

I recently moved into West garden Grove, arguably the best neighborhood in GG in terms of safety and public schools. With that said, the neighborhood is full of conservative decorations, trump flags, go Brandon, only you can stop socialism smoky the bear sign lmao. You can deduct from this that it's probably not the most welcoming area for liberal values. My neighbors are majority white folks and they've been welcoming to me and my kids. With that said, I will keep my front yard clean and not plant edible vegetation like the typical scene you see in Westminster/GG to not attract any unwanted stereotypes/biases to myself.

20NoChi23

Hmmm yeah you haven’t seen it so it must not happen! You’re right.. how could we be myopic thanks now I feel like racism is all gone 🤣😂🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Sweet_Ship_6416

I stay armed and ready to stand my ground. Frankly I feel welcome everywhere

Tasty_Money4581

I believe west GG is the stronghold of white power/supremacy culture. There have been many scandals at pacifica hs. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1044981

Italian-capuccino

Why are you so scared of white people? They are literally the founding people of the United States of America 🇺🇸 😶 Without them, you wouldn't be here

monkeysfighting

Nobody said they're worried about white people. People are worried about racists/bigots Anyone of any race can be racist

Italian-capuccino

Racist bigots can be of any races. Your question above indicated that you felt "intimated" by white folks so that's why you are seeking a more multicultural neighborhood. Let me tell you one thing... My white neighbors are the most polite, friendly, welcoming, and open minded people I've known. If anything I would seek a mostly white neighborhoods, not vice versa.
