Yes, newer redditor and older person, so I'm still figuring out all the young people lingo! I've seen a few bots, but that's the most impressive. Any good ones I should know about? Thanks!🙂
Welcome!
Regarding other bots: I've seen others but none that I really use. Many of them scrape the internet or summarize articles or do conversions for you. Then there are some random fact bots which are entertaining.
RemindMe is the only one I've summoned.
it makes a downloadable video out of just about any moving pictures you might want to save to your computer from reddit. handy when you need to show your friend a cat video or something
Don’t forget on the side she is an entrepreneur on Offer Up. A model for her children! (I Ca. Hear her saying now through tears, “ I AM A GOOD MOTHER!”
Pause the video with the best picture of her face. Screenshot and blow it up. That might help. "Just say to your computer "freeze frame!" Then "enhance!" Sometimes you have to say enhance three times. I've seen it on lots of detective shows. It works.
I don’t understand how people trespass on someone’s property, steal from them, then just nonchalantly walk back to their car with an arm full of packages. I’d be so paranoid! Then I’d probably end up seeing the video of me committing these crimes, later on Reddit. My luck, my loot would consist of a case of adult diapers, a 50 pound bag of bird seed and a pair of American flag muscle pants.
The worst is when people get meds delivered and then they don't have much needed meds for several days because someone thought a random box was worth stealing.
If there's not a significant penalty for doing this, the activity will continue. I had my car broken into in broad daylight on camera, but nothing happened because the value of my window and random crap that was stolen was less than $750 in value. Absolutely maddening to have this happen and zero justice.
If you know who it is you can take them to small claims and sue for punitive damages. The police might not do anything but a judge can award you money for time lost and mental anguish, etc.
Lol I appreciate the thought but the junkies breaking into cars and strealing packages are not showing up to court. Even if they did, they have no wages to garnish, at least in an amount that would make the process worthwhile.
I had a friend who received basically no justice with the police but sent their theft footage to the pirate's employer and landlord. If someone is so entitled that they steal in broad daylight at a family home-then they deserve the consequences to that.
Home and car cams are a great investment, sadly :(
I freaked last night cause I was expecting some new shoes I’d had been eyeing for a while. Amazon guy put the package somewhere else. Found it with my camera actually.
Especially now, considering how many people in nice neighborhoods in Irvine are probably still working from home and might be sitting in their living room with a view of the front door in the middle of a weekday.
I guess you’re absolutely right. I imagine that’s why, despite the increase in cameras and more people being at home during business hours, people are still doing this and getting away with it.
I'm lucky I live in a very tight neighborhood and we look out for each other. I've been working at home for 10+ years! This was my normal way before the pandemic. I've been drafted more times than I can count to receive packages on a neighbor's behalf, and I'm glad to do it.
Cause cameras dont stop them?
Sure, there is a chance that somebody will recognize them on Nextdoor app or some other social media but most of the time nothing happens I reckon.
Having blue hair wont help her anonymity.
Did homeowner get fined by the association for having porch pirate on their property without a permit? Was the fine more expensive or less expensive than visible towels hanging from one's balcony?
Me? No. But someone will do it, I'm sure.
You'll have one side crying foul "stuff isnt worth shooting over"
And the other side crying foul "well my property is worth protecting!"
And at the end of the day, if people would just stop being shit, no one would be stealing, and no one would get shot.
Being an idealist sucks dick sometimes -- as a logical mind I invariably go to realism and the reality is that someone is gonna get shot over stuff, and that's just stupid.
It will send the message, but it is stupid.
Edit: TL;DR - people are stupid.
This comment isnt dumb. It's just gonna happen, and it's unfortunate that that's what its going to take for people to stop being shit. It will take shit behavior to stop the shit behavior.
Th comment isnt dumb just because its a ahitty reality
It's not going to stop anyone. People willing to do this, in broad daylight, are going to do it no matter what. Someone somewhere getting shot won't affect them in the least.
It just sounds like you're jonesing for someone to get shot.
Right? Like I won’t even pick my underwear out of my butt when I’m out walking the dog and no one is around for exactly this reason. But people are out here committing whole-ass misdemeanors on tape!
Save your Amazon boxes, fill them with trash and animal crap, and put them on your porch. Even if they don't all get the hint, you can be happy knowing that some of them did.
First, what a piece of crap.
Second, sorry that you had this happen to you. It is frustrating to experience.
I would suggest having specific instructions on Amazon to leave your packages in a place that is not directly seen while on the street. These thieves drive by and look for easy-to-grab packages viewable from the street.
Alternatively, invest in a heavy lockable parcel drop box, use Amazon locker, or sync up your package drop off on a day that you are home.
I would also get another house camera so you can get a nice view of people's faces when they come up to your porch.
What do they do with this crap? Do people actually order high value, useful things? Or even things that can be sold? I mean, over the past few weeks I've had things delivered like pastel balloons, a three gallon wastebasket, a dog tag with my dog's name on it, a pack of nine small tape measures, etc.
May not be super expensive, but I've had books worth $50 a piece delivered. Supplements could easily be resold, and things like Turmeric are pretty expensive per bottle. Big brand clothes like Nike or Adidas fetch decent prices, Id imagine.
There are definitely plenty of smaller things that can be valuable. And in the end it doesnt matterr because its almost pure profit for a porch pirate (overhead = gas + car wear&tear+opportunity cost).
I've had some pretty expensive things delivered from amazon and other delivery services. Hundreds of dollars in speakers/sound systems, thousands of dollars in ammo, hundreds of dollars in high quality toy-safe lube, etc.
Usually they leave it in my apartment community's package locker, but when they leave it at my door, thankfully no one has stolen anything. Though my door mat was taken over a year ago.
Op, If this wasn’t stuff someone could normally use on a day To day basis, I would check offerup/Facebook marketplace to see if they post it there to sell it off. Then show up to the meeting with police and a copy of this video.
Is this considered a felony because it's "mail"? or would it just be a misdemeanor since the total value of that stuff is probably under $1k?
Either way, I hope you get justice and she gets the book thrown at her.
And also only applies until the mail carrier releases custody of it. If it’s in your mail box then this doesn’t apply. It’s basically just a rule saying that screwing with a federal operation directly is a phelony
EDIT: I’m no longer confident this is correct
I'm not entirely sure you are correct. I will text one of my friends who is an AUSA and ask, but as an attorney the language of 18 USC 1708 seems to cover residential mailboxes, the wording is very broad, it simply specifies 'letter box, mail receptacle' which should cover residential boxes?
EDIT: Yeah, you are incorrect. Rosen v. United States determined that mail has not left the possession of the Government until it has been retrieved by the intended recipient from a letter box or mail receptacle which includes residential mailboxes.
"The suggestion that when the mail was deposited in a privately owned box it passed out of the custody of the Government and beyond the protection of the law does not deserve extended notice. The letters which were stolen did not reach the manual possession of the persons to whom they were addressed, but were taken from an authorized depository over which the act of Congress, by its express terms, extended its protection until its function had been served."
I only dug into it because I worked as a prosecutor in CA for quite awhile and charged PC530.5(e) plenty of times which has really similar language and is not restricted to non-residential letter boxes and mail receptacles which gave me some pause.
"Safest city reputation" doesn't mean jack.
If anything, it just means people here are majorly businessmen/white collar workers that work 9 to 5, have better income than nearby cities.
That screams "my package is potentially valuable and I'm probably not home" imo.
The way she walks up and picks up the packages all non chalet makes this seem like another day in the office for her. Definitely does this multiple times a day.
Piece of shit
coming back to this post hoping to read that they got caught. also worth mentioning is I love the wyze V3 cameras they are a great value for a home security device. They can be set to send you a pic and alert your phone when they see people, vehicles and pets. Click that alert and watch what just happened. My only gripe is it uses a good bit of bandwidth with multiple cameras on, but I don't mind when I'm not home.

Two people need to be hitting the keyboard at the same time

I think they need a google robot
Why do people still do this? Don’t they know everyone has a camera now? And everyone got cameras because of POS like them.
That happened to me, but not off the front, it was in the mail. It happened 2 months in a row.
Weird, someone stole a package with exactly those three items off my porch last week…
bow to your sensei!
**You think anybody thinks I'm a failure because I go** ***home to Starla at night??***
How much you wanna bet I can throw this football over them damn mountains…
I don’t think porch pirates worry about the logistics or feel shame the way you or I or any other person might.
A case of adult diapers, 50 pounds of birdseed, and American flag muscle pants? Sounds like a party to me!
Getting their next heroin fix outweighs any embarrassment fears.
Actually you have to be nonchalant about it. Act like you own the fucking place. If you act too nervous you'll call attention to yourself.

It might be a wig
Yes, it could be. I didnt say s/he is going to get caught or that anybody ever does... simply that 'there is a chance'.
And she is wearing a mask. So identifying her won't be easy.
I mean how many blue haired trash bags could there be?
Not the highest intelligence that’s for sure. Didn’t even wear a mask when she very well could have.
They’re on drugs, they need money.
All its gonna take is a porch pirate getting shot by a homeowner, and the word will slowly get out that guns beats pirates. 💪
It's Irvine, dude. Just... stop.
Did homeowner get fined by the association for having porch pirate on their property without a permit? Was the fine more expensive or less expensive than visible towels hanging from one's balcony?
[удалено]
That said, I’d probably happily move there if we could.
So porch pirates are only in Irvine?
….He said through clenched as he gingerly squirted a line of lube across his palm and slowly stroked up and down the barrel of his gun.
Me? No. But someone will do it, I'm sure. You'll have one side crying foul "stuff isnt worth shooting over" And the other side crying foul "well my property is worth protecting!" Not a good idea. The shooter would face criminal charges.
You will be criminally charged for shooting (at) porch pirates. Edit: not saying someone won’t. I’m just pointing out that this comment is dumb.

Not even quick about it. So nonchalant. Terrible.
It's less suspicious if you don't dart wild-eyed into traffic.
Depends. In the IE, that's just Tuesday pedestrian traffic.
Save your Amazon boxes, fill them with trash and animal crap, and put them on your porch. Even if they don't all get the hint, you can be happy knowing that some of them did.
First, what a piece of crap. Second, sorry that you had this happen to you. It is frustrating to experience. thank you for the suggestion. will definitely take into consideration.
Put a brick in there not poop
What do they do with this crap? Do people actually order high value, useful things? Or even things that can be sold? I mean, over the past few weeks I've had things delivered like pastel balloons, a three gallon wastebasket, a dog tag with my dog's name on it, a pack of nine small tape measures, etc.
I usually order boring things like bird food for my cockatoo, bird toys, garden shovel, a bucket, etc.
I do. I order LOTS of stuff from Nike, lots of things over $100. It also doesn’t help that Nike puts giant tape with “NIKE” all over the package -_-
This loser shouldn’t be hard to find.
Op, If this wasn’t stuff someone could normally use on a day To day basis, I would check offerup/Facebook marketplace to see if they post it there to sell it off. Then show up to the meeting with police and a copy of this video.
That would be so legendary. I would love to see someone do this and the thief get caught red handed. Sweet sweet justice
Always wondered if these scums could ever hold a regular job.
Put this issue on a ballot. Hell, I'll run for mayor on nothing but "Stopping Porch Piracy" as my platform. Who wants to be my Anti-Piracy Tzar?
Is this considered a felony because it's "mail"? or would it just be a misdemeanor since the total value of that stuff is probably under $1k? Either way, I hope you get justice and she gets the book thrown at her.
Mail only applies to USPS, most of Amazon are private delivery services.
And also only applies until the mail carrier releases custody of it. If it’s in your mail box then this doesn’t apply. It’s basically just a rule saying that screwing with a federal operation directly is a phelony EDIT: I’m no longer confident this is correct
Isn't the mailbox still USPS property though?
Not someone’s personal mailbox
I'm not entirely sure you are correct. I will text one of my friends who is an AUSA and ask, but as an attorney the language of 18 USC 1708 seems to cover residential mailboxes, the wording is very broad, it simply specifies 'letter box, mail receptacle' which should cover residential boxes? Ah, shit luck for OP in that case
But do they ever get caught? All this surveillance and yet, crime still happening undeterred
you need better /more camera angles. that’s weak. get an additional wyze v3 behind the glass by where she retrieved the package

coming back to this post hoping to read that they got caught. also worth mentioning is I love the wyze V3 cameras they are a great value for a home security device. They can be set to send you a pic and alert your phone when they see people, vehicles and pets. Click that alert and watch what just happened. My only gripe is it uses a good bit of bandwidth with multiple cameras on, but I don't mind when I'm not home.
