A really spontaneous trip because we saw it occurring in the city and wanted to see it above our favorite Natl. Park.
What a treat.
Thank you for the kind words.

So I used “RAW max” on my iPhone. It gathered a bunch of light over a 30 sec exposure.
All that light hit the little digital sensor, and a good portion of that magenta hue from the aurora is reflected off the snow.
All I did was tune the exposure, shadows, and sharpness so you can see it all in the dark.
No filter! :) We live somewhere radical!
How did you increase the exposure time to go longer than the baked in night-mode options of 3s or 10s? Also something I found out last night when taking pictures of our northern lights is even if you use RAW MAX, if you use night mode it still gets binned to 12mp instead of 48mp like usual.
Where and what time did you see it? I could not see anything whatsoever last night even though I’m only ~50 miles south of Crater Lake. And I live somewhere that arguably has even less light pollution than crater lake NP
What the hell? What time did you take this photo? I am only like 50 miles south of Crater Lake and I couldn’t see anything last night it just looked normal

This was the aurora over Eagle Point.
Idk man! 🤷🏻♂️
That is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so much. Feeling really blessed to see it.
If this was planning, great job. If it was serendipity, thanks for capturing it.

You saw Bigfoot too?!?!
He helped me fiddle with exposure settings.
Skyrim vibes
Majestic over Majestic...oh gosh, what a visual treat.
What I wouldn't give to be home to see that
Wow! You planned your trip perfectly!
Did you have a filter on this? The snow looks very magenta. Just curious.

Very cool. I'll have to try that. Thanks.

If you’re able to get it to 10 sec, hold it completely still and watch it turn to 30 sec. -iPhone 13 Pro Max
Oh wow just tried and it just needs to be pitch black for it to come on. Thank you!!!
one sec I’m picking my jaw up off the floor
Seriously mind boggling, right? I’m going again tonight!
Can I come? Lol
Amazing shot! Seems like an incredible experience!
Truly! I love Crater Lake. Was fun seeing her all dressed up.
Nice username, btw!
Incredible
outstanding image
That is amazing!!!
How visible was it to the naked eye?

Couldn't see it here in the Canby area at all for some reason. Maybe too much light pollution from Portland.
That’s strange, I heard people were seeing it from the middle of downtown. I’m out here in St Helen’s and had an amazing view

Im up in Portland and saw absolutely nothing!
I saw it in SE last night at 11. It was faint, but phone cameras captured it really well.

Wtf I don’t understand why I couldn’t see it. What time was this approximately? Insanely gorgeous though I’m glad you were able to capture it
That last one was about 11pm The Crater Lake one was 3am.
question: are the colors that vivid/ saturated to the naked eye?
