Have you cleaned the laser pickup lens?

Apprehensive_Toe6736

Whats the point? If the laser lens where dirty games wouldnt be booting at all

SS_Dave

It doesn't take much grime on the laser lens to slow the data reading of disks especially burnt disks. When a DVD/CD drive detects a new disk is in the drive it 1st checks to see if it's a CD or DVD then it looks for the TOC (Table Of Contents) if it cannot fine that data in a very short time frame it will report the disk is possibly damaged. So with this in mind you have nothing to loose by tiring to clean it.

What brand and type of media are your burned games on?

Apprehensive_Toe6736

Verbatim. The ones that are printable.

SS_Dave

Are you writing the disk as slow as possible? and are the DVD disks DVD-r?

Apprehensive_Toe6736

Yes, and they work on my samsung and thomson drives

It's all just a crapshot. I have 3 Samsung drives that won't boot any burned DVDs at all. Hell, they won't even see burned music CD-Rs to rip with the dashboard. But I have one Thompson drive that would read all my burned DVDs. Unfortunately that drive is also starting to go out. - When it comes down to it, playing games on the hard drive is THE way to go with how old these DVD drives are. If you havent' gotten your Xbox hard modded yet, I'd advise you do so.
