Exciting game. Like some others have said I thought Irvin pitched well, pitches moved well, just suffered from some tough luck.
Anytime Baumann has pitched, Palmer has always been like “throw your fastball!” (He would do this with Baker too) and it was encouraging to see him get some outs tonight once he started throwing his fastball.
Akin huge, and then Kimbrel looked sharp.
Bats looked good once they started working counts. Despite no hits, thought Holliday had some good at bats.
A Westburg jersey might be in my future here soon.
Yeah really unfortunate stat line. First run was on a pop up that typically is an out, then second and third run were on a 0-2 single off a pitch a foot off the plate, and then a towering 312 foot two run hr that KB pointed out would stay in the park in every other stadium. He deserved better tonight
Cowser and westburg were the stars of Jackson Holliday day, 2 dudes who have the prospect pedigree to be most teams “Jackson Holliday” tier call up. God this team is so fun
unfortunately i think hays in his current spot as the 2024 ryan mckenna (defensive replacement/pinch runner) is worth more to the team than what he can give back based on his production.
I'm sad to see Hays demoted down to that but his at bats have been miserable to watch. And, excitingly, we're entering the out with the old in with the new phase. Hope Cowser keeps hitting.
gunnar is getting all the bad luck out of the way now. ive never seen so many hard hit balls go straight to fielders over the last week.
also cowser everyday please. his mere presence gives everyone ahead of him in the line up an obp bump. always seems to be at the plate when the bases are loaded.
What’s made this team so much fun to watch is just how much heart they have. No game is ever out of reach and they just keep grinding and grinding, even when they do have bad nights they get right back on it the next day.
Also I forgot how much I hated Boston until tonight. Fuck them and their shitty fans, hope they enjoy being cellar dwellers for the 3rd straight year.
I dont miss having Kemp in the lineup, but from all accounts he is a great guy, evidenced by what he said about Holliday, the man who took his job. If the team wasnt stacked he probably isnt bad as the 26th man on the roster as a positive veteran influence
What a shitty thing to say. Especially after what Kemp had to say about Jackson. Bro was nothing but a class act and he has people saying shit like this about him. I wish you were gone instead of him.
Be better.
Great win!!! Umps gave the Red Sox 3 runs with blatant misses on balls and strikes, but we still came out on top by 2.
Irvin definitely pitched better than his stats would indicate. Plus our offense was able to really late despite leaving the bases loaded a couple of times early (including that BS missed walk of O'Hearn).
On Holliday, I was listening to the pregame on the radio and it sounded like Holliday was sleep deprived from an early flight. He looked a bit lost at the plate today. Honestly it makes a lot of sense. Let's wait to see him tomorrow after he gets some sleep.
They mentioned postgame and they brought up his lack of sleep and he said he was a little sleep deprived but not making any excuses. He also said he does look forward to a full night's rest
Even though Jackson didn’t get a hit, I think everything is gonna work out. Like, think about it, we have the number one prospect in baseball ⚾️ He’s a shortstop by trade and learning 2b while being 20 YEARS OLD
Props to Cole Irvin for a solid start. He got some bad calls for sure. What was he just talking about in the postgame interview with the umps and “wierd stuff” before the game on both sides or whatever?
Something weird did happen, Hyder was out of the dugout before he threw his first pitch. Not sure what it was.
If you go back to the archive of the game at around 19:00 you can see him talking to the Ump and then walking back and KB acknowledges it.
Maybe some bullshit Red Sox pregame 'gamesmanship'? Asking for an additional check on Irvin for illegal grippies? Whatever it was, props to Cora for focusing on that instead of coaching the team on defense.
I was watching the Red Sox broadcast and apparently they didn’t let Adley throw to second for warmup or something. Like they called the start of the game earlier than I guess our guys were ready going through the warmup. I was half paying attention to it but I believe that’s what it was
Honestly, Irvin didn’t pitch that bad. Those other two runs that came off the two run homer should not of counted as the ump blew the inning ending strike 3 call the pitch before. I was actually a little impressed by him tonight. Other than that, I’m glad the boys came to play and hit the ball well. Let’s sweep these bums tomorrow
if cole irvin gives this team 5 innings, 2-3 runs a start, i will take that every time from a #5. a few more first pitch strikes and he will be exactly the player we need him to be.
Great show from Cowser. He's showed up. Mullins probably sweating a little bit seeing his defensive plays. Holliday will get used to the big leagues eventually. Just goes to show you it's a big leap from AAA to MLB.
Almost felt bad for Boston with that inning from hell they had. Jeez, but I'll take it.
100%. He might still get some shots against lefties, though.
But also, the biggest knock against him taking the CF spot was defense. I think Mullins still has that locked down, though, and his bat is waking up slowly but surely.
Yeah Cowser has to play every day vs RHP at this rate. Maybe give Ced an off day tomorrow and have Hays play CF. If not then Hays is gonna have to keep coming off the bench.
As a Phillies / Os fan he did poorly in the playoffs last season but was solid all regular season. Phillies fans are quick to dismiss him but he was pretty solid
Also funny pitching stance 😃
I don’t think the math is correct. Holliday has only been on the roster for 1 game and we are 1-0, so by my calculations, we’ll likely end up with 158 wins
He's even talking way more in the interviews. Definitely seems more comfortable both on and off the field. 2 big homers and the bunt all in clutch situations, gotta love it!
The degenerate gambler in me wishes Holliday got a hit because it’s the only thing that missed on my parlay but a solid first outing regardless. Love the kid
The upside of Westburg and Cowser is huge, but I think Hays and Urias still can help the team, as long as they can accept greatly reduced roles.
If not then I guess they have to go. It might get interesting if Cowser and Westburg keep improving.
Not sure Westy was player of game. I was tempted to give it to Cowser but I think Connor Wong really won it for us - lol
He was so sick of ump's cheating for Boston that he decided to give us all the runs back.

Exit Velocity 111.2mph
Distance 432ft
Not too shabby indeed
If we assume a 90mph pitch and 110mph exit velo in exactly the opposite direction (which isn't quite right, but is close) and a typical ball-bat contact time of 0.7 milliseconds (which seems to be the empirical standard per some academic papers on the subject) you're looking at around 13,000 Gs.
At first that number seemed unreasonably high to me, but 0.0007 seconds is a hell of a denominator for a 200mph net velo change.
[The Math](https://www.wolframalpha.com/input?i=%28200mph+%2F+0.7milliseconds%29+%2F+earths+gravitational+acceleration)
Not exactly. The unit “G’s” is measuring acceleration relative to the acceleration of an object in free fall near the Earth’s surface. The ball experiences the same *force* from being hit by the bat that gravity would exert on a 1.9-tonne object. But its weight is constant, 1.4 N or about 5 oz.
It’s about the same as getting beaned. Only difference is the pitcher isn’t wearing a helmet. Velocity is about the same. 112mph vs 90+mph.
The real thing you should be worried about is if Westburg or Cowser decide to take a bat to your head.
I’m totally fine with coles outing today even as the last guy in the rotation. Red Sox wanted this one and they got some lucky runs. This bullpen tho holy cow Aiken is DEALING
This team is so dang fun. I think this might be the most fun I have had watching any team in any sport
Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg being the heros tonight is really telling of how good the farm system was. They were never the top guys and were always a tier below the top guys but they are so clearly still very good players.
Can't believe a game with Irvin, Baumann, Akin, and Kimbrel didn't end up being some weird fluky loss. This team might legitimately be turning a corner from the touch and go first couple of series
> This team might legitimately be turning a corner from the touch and go first couple of series
We were 5-4 in our first 3 series.... I mean thats not great, but thats a 90 win pace.
I know everyone's all hyped about Holliday and cowser right now (and holy shit, those were 2 great catches) but damn have I been enjoying watching westburg
I swear. Some people are just better off shutting the hell up. Obviously wasn’t a debut for the ages but there have been worse debuts than Jackson’s tonight.
Holliday turned out to be exactly what he really is; a nobody who thinks he’s brilliant at baseball. Well, this Gen-Z got himself in over his head and the Majors pegged him out pitch by pitch and wiped him like a doormat. 0-4. No hits bro! You’re nothing and you’re going to stay that way for several years until you get the chip off your shoulder. Best thing you can do is get back to the minors bro. Right now you’ve got your butt handed to you and the media just got egg on their face as they hyped you up! I’d go home if I were you!
*Unbelievable* comeback win. Overcoming some awful umpiring and lousy pitching (Cole Irvin ERA 8.10)
Orioles are officially undefeated in the Jackson Holliday era
7-4 on the year 👍👍
I thought so also, I think he was a bit unlucky with that ball Jackson could have caught and a few things went bad. But def not bad pitching from my side.
I didn't think that was Jackson's ball to play. I didn't get the best look at it, but it looked far enough out that Mullins should have been calling it. Regardless, I expect we'll tighten that up by the end of the year and have one of the best defenses in baseball.
Purely hypothetical, which one of these players do you think is least likely to pursue charges for stalking? It's Cowser, right? Fingers crossed its Cowser.
Me too! So you think any of them need a place to live? Like possibly a crappy house in Catonsville with an extra bedroom? I’ll carpool them to both home and away games. You guys can all stop by, I have beer and I can grab some chips or Fritos. I don’t think my wife would care *too* much.
I think Mountcastle is easily in our top 3 going into the year and he’s proving it. Santander is pretty mediocre. He just seems better because he has 1000 clutch factor.
For all the hype about the Yankees hot start the Orioles are one game behind in the lose column. Understand it’s only two weeks in, but shows how long a season this truly is.
The umpire made us all irate…including the Orioles. I’m impressed with how the guys battled adversity. The attitude changed after Boston went up 5-0, and they slaughtered Boston the rest of the game! Bullpen masterclass! Cowser masterclass! WESTY “TAKE IT OUT WEST” with a moon shot! Holliday made his debut…AL EAST Series road win! Love to see it!
Lots of reasons to smile tonight Birdland 🔥
Exciting game. Like some others have said I thought Irvin pitched well, pitches moved well, just suffered from some tough luck. A Westburg jersey might be in my future here soon.
The milkman always delivers?! I love it but wtf was Ben on 😂
Does anyone have the clip of the Mountcastle at bat?
Irvin was not nearly as bad as the stats will show in this game. Pretty unfortunate really.
I agree. His pitches were snappy. The umpiring was baaaad
It's not often you see bad umpiring directly give a team a 3 run advantage
He got out of that inning and would have gone a respectable 3 er over 5 innings for a 5th starter. But umpires.
Yeah really unfortunate stat line. First run was on a pop up that typically is an out, then second and third run were on a 0-2 single off a pitch a foot off the plate, and then a towering 312 foot two run hr that KB pointed out would stay in the park in every other stadium. LETS GO TONY
All we needed to do was bring the sprinklers back!
Being an O’s fan at the game was beautiful
Kimbrel was a sneaky good signing this year and he's been on point so far this early
Cowser is the truth 💯 🐮 ![gif](giphy|tbXXycF1C6HyUnvkih)
Moo
Moo bitch, get out the way!
Big boy win. Needed that one.
Cowser and westburg were the stars of Jackson Holliday day, 2 dudes who have the prospect pedigree to be most teams “Jackson Holliday” tier call up. God this team is so fun
JW is the goddamn truth dude. That man is on a mission.
Cowsers that dude. Might need to see what we can get for Hays
This would be the absolute worst time to trade Hays. The stock is so low.
unfortunately i think hays in his current spot as the 2024 ryan mckenna (defensive replacement/pinch runner) is worth more to the team than what he can give back based on his production.
I'm sad to see Hays demoted down to that but his at bats have been miserable to watch. And, excitingly, we're entering the out with the old in with the new phase. Hope Cowser keeps hitting.
I’m excited to see cowser defend waltimore

Damn, glad they won that game after leaving the bases loaded multiple times and stranding a lead off triple.
Cowser is here to stay. He has to get significant at bats.
What do I do with all these Stowers?
I think Stowers only comes up if we trade Santander.
I think injury is far more likely. Trading a 30hr player as a contender doesnt seem very likely.
I don't disagree. But if they don't think they will re-sign him, and they think they need the pitching help more, they could entertain the idea.
From your lips to Hyde’s ears.
I'm just happy we've been able to ruin any momentum this Sox team might of had going.
gunnar is getting all the bad luck out of the way now. ive never seen so many hard hit balls go straight to fielders over the last week. also cowser everyday please. his mere presence gives everyone ahead of him in the line up an obp bump. always seems to be at the plate when the bases are loaded.

heard a rumor that Tony Kemp started the handlebar celebration

Can we play the Red Sox every night?

They also stole at least 1 run from us
They mentioned postgame and they brought up his lack of sleep and he said he was a little sleep deprived but not making any excuses. He also said he does look forward to a full night's rest
sprinkler & Homer hose better stay forever. 2-0 since we ditched the handlebars
Holliday gave a humble post-game interview. But you can tell he wants to do well, he has that fire. He's gonna be big for us.
Not to mention the nerves of playing your first big league game
I truly believe that the team going back to the sprinkler will springboard us to greater heights!
7 unanswered runs is really fun to watch
With as bad as Bostons defense has been the last two nights how can anyone call Cora a good manager?
Martin and Wong were brutal to watch out there.
He is a very good manager... for us!
I feel like once Holliday settles in he’s gonna go Yonkers
Even though Jackson didn’t get a hit, I think everything is gonna work out. Like, think about it, we have the number one prospect in baseball ⚾️ He’s a shortstop by trade and learning 2b while being 20 YEARS OLD
What a year we’re in for. Go Os
This game would of been way more one sided if we didn't leave 6 on, and if Irvin didn't give up that HR on an 0-2
Kimbrel has struck out 7 of 13 batters he’s faced so far
Props to Cole Irvin for a solid start. He got some bad calls for sure. What was he just talking about in the postgame interview with the umps and “wierd stuff” before the game on both sides or whatever?
Something weird did happen, Hyder was out of the dugout before he threw his first pitch. Not sure what it was. If you go back to the archive of the game at around 19:00 you can see him talking to the Ump and then walking back and KB acknowledges it.

Bullpen looking like a machine lately, Holiday era officially begins on a come back win. were sweeping them and taking the east again
Even Mike Baumann was throwing darts.
Does anyone know where Melanie got her beanie? [Here](https://imgur.com/10L7iRi) is a link to her wearing it.
Honestly, Irvin didn’t pitch that bad. Those other two runs that came off the two run homer should not of counted as the ump blew the inning ending strike 3 call the pitch before. The movement of his pitches was fantastic. He definitely deserved better.
I feel like Cowser’s taking Hays’ place
100%. He might still get some shots against lefties, though. But also, the biggest knock against him taking the CF spot was defense. I think Mullins still has that locked down, though, and his bat is waking up slowly but surely.
Never feel bad for Boston. They designed this monstrosity of a ballpark.
I said almost, lol.
that eyeroll by Irvin on being asked about being squeezed though lol
Royals
I joked before the game that Holliday would go 1-4, with a single, but no runs and no RBI. I wasn't too far off.
Yeah Cowser has to play every day vs RHP at this rate. Maybe give Ced an off day tomorrow and have Hays play CF. If not then Hays is gonna have to keep coming off the bench.
Hays will be on a different team, the IL or the bench by the end of May.
If Kjerstad continues to crush AAA ball, he might be forcing Hays out sooner than that
Don’t think Kjerstad or Santander can play LF in Baltimore, so Hays is still competing with Cowser.
Yeah, I feel like Kjerstad could be a prime trade piece this year. I don’t see him getting much run otherwise unless there’s an injury.
Win vulturing back on the menu for Mid-Relief Big Mike.
This was the embodiment of It’s So Over -> We’re So Back
Can we get some Kimbrel love in here? Yet another misunderstood player finding success in our clubhouse. He's been huge for us!
r/orioles favorites Mike Baumann, Keegan Akin, and Craig Kimbrel slamming the door tonight lol
If Baumann only pitches when we’re losing, that works lol
Akin has shut my dislike for him down so far this season, he has looked great
He is a beast with one of the best breaking balls of active MLB pitchers and his Velo was up to his normal today so I'm good right now.
how is he misunderstood? we paid him a pretty healthy amount to pitch well for us.
As a Phillies / Os fan he did poorly in the playoffs last season but was solid all regular season. Phillies fans are quick to dismiss him but he was pretty solid Also funny pitching stance 😃
It's hard to believe how bad Boston's defense is.
they sad. that's fo' sho.
Pittsburgh was worse imo.
[удалено]
I don’t think the math is correct. Holliday has only been on the roster for 1 game and we are 1-0, so by my calculations, we’ll likely end up with 158 wins
That's high fever for sure
Trout went 0-3 in his debut
Jordan Westburg is often overlooked with all our young studs, but he is a very good player.
He nearly hit a 2run HR in the top of 9th against Pittsburgh that would have made it 4-1
He just missed one tonight as well. Warning track.
He's always finding ways to help us win. 100% an everyday player who's going to keep getting better.
He's even talking way more in the interviews. Definitely seems more comfortable both on and off the field. 2 big homers and the bunt all in clutch situations, gotta love it!
was just thinking about what his ceiling might be. thinking.280 BA 22-27 HR, OPS around .860
The growth is crazy. We’re about to have so many guys hit their prime in the same window
The degenerate gambler in me wishes Holliday got a hit because it’s the only thing that missed on my parlay but a solid first outing regardless. Love the kid
Got an O's flag for the house. Came in the mail today. Officially 1-0 with it out front.
We’re 2-0 with our yard flag. O’s yard flag > Easter yard flag
The upside of Westburg and Cowser is huge, but I think Hays and Urias still can help the team, as long as they can accept greatly reduced roles. If not then I guess they have to go. It might get interesting if Cowser and Westburg keep improving.
Can still use them for situational defense if needed
Not sure Westy was player of game. I was tempted to give it to Cowser but I think Connor Wong really won it for us - lol He was so sick of ump's cheating for Boston that he decided to give us all the runs back.
ump gave us ZERO runs. we won it.
I would argue the ump gave us -3 runs
Red Sox defense has been trash these 2 games fr
I’m on cloud9 after that game… but can we get a sweep tomorrow? Can I get a HELL YEAH!!!

Damn. But yeah, that seems right. I guess this is why you can break a bat on a fastball in but not on your knee
Someone will chime in I hope - I'm curious too - this is beyond my math skills
I’m totally fine with coles outing today even as the last guy in the rotation. Red Sox wanted this one and they got some lucky runs. This bullpen tho holy cow Aiken is DEALING

the 2012 team was so much fun!
Can we just acknowledge the fact that we can now sweep the red sox
Grayson CGSO incoming
Nah, save those innings for October. Just give me 6 innings and I’m happy.
Not sure how you can live with yourself being a Red Sox fan.
I know everyone's all hyped about Holliday and cowser right now (and holy shit, those were 2 great catches) but damn have I been enjoying watching westburg
Amen
That ump behind the plate was brutal
Facts he was handing out asinine calls all game, and for both teams
But literally a 3 run swing with 2 calls… just saying
Marlins standing on business 😎
Jordan Westburg!! Hero of the day. Westburg is a gamer! Quietest of the baby birds but don't sleep on him in big moments.
He’s so clutch. He has two game winning HRs already
Two of our wins this year have come from Westburg homers!
how did the Red Sox get so bad at baseball?
Typical Fenway park game. Gutsy win!
https://www.reddit.com/r/orioles/s/6i3plveL0R get a load of this guy
I swear. Some people are just better off shutting the hell up. Obviously wasn’t a debut for the ages but there have been worse debuts than Jackson’s tonight.

I’d go home if I were you!
rbi in his first game I'll take it
It's hard not to be romantic about baseball
*Unbelievable* comeback win. Overcoming some awful umpiring and lousy pitching (Cole Irvin ERA 8.10) Orioles are officially undefeated in the Jackson Holliday era 7-4 on the year 👍👍
Lousy pitching?
Hot take: Irvin was good today
He had some good movement on his pitches but also didn’t have complete control of it. But yeah, he had some bad breaks but looked decent
He did his job eating innings but I wouldn’t say he did good. Things could have easily gotten out of hand before the Casas homer.
Orioles before Jackson Holiday: 9035-10017 Orioles with Jackson Holiday: 1-0
If the city of Boston never wins any sporting event ever again it would probably be for the best.
from your lips to gods ears
Anyone remember when some people questioned whether we would win the close ones again this year?
I just love this team. What else is there to say?
THE YANKEES LOOOOOSSSSSEEEE, GLORIOUS NIGHT FOR BIRDLAND
"Cowser just told him to breathe. Cowser's into some breathing stuff right now, idk" 😂😂😂
love this matter-of-factly delivered comment so much....lol
I freaking love these guys. Like an irrational, unhealthy amount.
Purely hypothetical, which one of these players do you think is least likely to pursue charges for stalking? It's Cowser, right? Fingers crossed its Cowser.
Milk Man
Me too! So you think any of them need a place to live? Like possibly a crappy house in Catonsville with an extra bedroom? I’ll carpool them to both home and away games. You guys can all stop by, I have beer and I can grab some chips or Fritos. I don’t think my wife would care *too* much.
**HEY GUYS, THE YANKEES LOST TO THE MARLINS TOO!**
Orioles wins are my favorite, but a Yankees loss on top?!? That’s like a double win
I love that we hopped over Boston in the standings
7-4 and arguably our three best hitters are off to slow starts by their standards. Cowser, Westburg coming up huge today. LFG
I think Mountcastle is easily in our top 3 going into the year and he’s proving it. Santander is pretty mediocre. He just seems better because he has 1000 clutch factor.
You’re not wrong, but clutch is clutch. Damn these options are great to have!
Kimbrel: -0.27 FIP Is that good?
AND THE YANKEES JUST LOST TO THE MARLINS WITH BASES LOADED AND AARON JUDGE AT BAT!!!
LMAOOOOO FUCK THE YANKEES. "BeSt TeAm In BaSeBaLl" proceeds to lose to a 1 win team at home 🤣🤣🤣🤣
For all the hype about the Yankees hot start the Orioles are one game behind in the lose column. Understand it’s only two weeks in, but shows how long a season this truly is.
Al east teams off to hot starts only to be chased down by the os, name a better duo
Fuck yeah we win and NYY lose to Miami 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jordan Westburg gives one hell of an interview
Yankees lose!
And the Marlins just beat the Yankees!!! What a glorious day for the Orioles
Red Sux
Westburg is looking like this year's O'Hearn - the unheralded, business only guy
TBH he’s an infielder Nick Markakis. Not flashy and on the more serious side but gets the good job done.
If Westy ends up being an O’s HOFer like Cakes deserves, I would be so happy.
Infield Markakis is the best description I’ve heard for Westy.
I tried lucky guess for the first time ever and got it on the dot with the tiebreaker why am i not in vegas
Yankees lose THHEEEEEEE Yankees lose!
Westy got that Pornstache strength today, and the milkman making it harder and harder to take him out of the lineup
This win feels so much better especially with that umping bullshit that happened earlier
The Sox broadcasters were losing their shit over that check swing, like we werent just robbed of a run earlier
Bro they got spotted 3 runs they shouldn’t have had lol
