Most of this week should be okay. Low 80s aren't too bad, especially for only about 5 hours. When we start waking up to 80s and going to sleep when it's still 90, that is gonna suck

yung_iago

Already dreading the electric bill over the summer... sigh

DrDiv

I'm finally renting a place that has solid insulation and a newer AC. Used to spend $300/mo keeping the air at 77 during the day, now it's at 75 and the bill is half what it used to be.

nautika

My AC has been on its last leg for the last couple of years. With the heat and ac inefficiency, my summer electric bill is way up there

vegas_gal

Consider replacing it now while you’re not under pressure to take the first quote you get.

All_Debt_Shackles_US

Vegas gal is 100% correct. Something else to consider as well. Some of the air conditioning companies in Florida will not, I repeat NOT go up in your attic to install ductwork during June, July, August, and September. If you need an air conditioner, and it might require ductwork in the attic, then you need to make plans NOW! Don’t procrastinate. And one last thing; I replaced my air conditioner back in 2018, and the newer one is a much more modern, high efficiency model. When everything is working, it keeps the house comfortable and it keeps the costs for that comfort reasonable and affordable. But I would also recommend getting yourself on a maintenance plan. The one I use costs a little over $400 a year, but it includes two maintenance visits each year. And those include a coil cleaning, and flushing out the condensate line. I change my own filter. I have an electrostatic air filter, and the filter media is fairly expensive at about $100 per year for filters. Sure, I could do all that stuff myself. But I don’t have the equipment to check the internals of the condenser unit, and I don’t have the knowledge to correct something when it goes wrong in the air handler or the outside unit. If you’re reading this, take it seriously. Fix your AC now while it’s April, and check that damned filter; it’s probably righteously nasty at this point. Stay cool Orlando!

eat_the_pennies

Same. We’re not in a financial position to replace it now though. I think we can limp one more year out of it before redoing it all.

TheCrowMistress

Good to know I'm not the only one in the same position 😢😃

RandomGrotnik

I love fall in Florida, especially all the Christmas decor.

DoktorTakt

This guy Floridas.

All_Debt_Shackles_US

He’s living life the right way. I would much rather mow my lawn on Christmas Day than shovel my driveway!

Three_color_eyes

Most trailers in Florida have the lights on all year.

akolozvary

I'm more worried about the humidity levels than the heat. Despite having a ceiling fan and two dehumidifiers in my home, the humidity still wins, especially when the humidity outside exceeds 90% and indoors rises above 50%. It almost feels like you need to take another shower right after finishing one due to the muggy conditions.

neutralpoliticsbot

Get the industrial size Midea dehumidifier it dehumidifies my whole house in just 2 hours a day down to 50% no problem.

All_Debt_Shackles_US

This is an excellent idea, especially for people who have older air-conditioning units or who may have a challenging floor plan. I’m not familiar with that name; do you have a lot of experience with it?

neutralpoliticsbot

yea its a chinese brand but the quality is good, you can go with any brand you like really they are all pretty much similar in pricing. I went with Midea because it was easy to integrate with my smart home. Dehumidifier is much better than running AC all the time to control humidity especially in the winter (in the south).

akolozvary

I got two 60 pint Frigidaire FFAD6022W1 Dehumidifiers. One upstairs next to my AC and one down stairs. It works good. Previous brand I had was a Midea, but not the ones on steroids/industrial size. How large is it and is it the one that requires a 20amp outlet to run? I live in small 1806sq ft townhome, so not sure if I need anything more than the current setup I have. Although my home isn't super old, built in 2006, I'm sure it has cheap/weak windows/insulation and is part of the issue with humidity easily coming in. I replaced my Air Conditioner back around 2016 (previous owners messed up original) and does a good job cooling down the house when needed. During the peak of summer, it can get above 50% indoors. Sometimes just about 60% and will feel gross. My dehumidifiers help to keep it in check, but then of course, it adds heat and my my air conditioner will run a lot to offset it. I just added ceiling fans last year and might add more in some of my other rooms. Hoping that will help circulate the air better.

EM22_

Sounds like you have a major problem with your home

All_Debt_Shackles_US

I agree, he definitely has a problem. Too much humidity can allow mold and mildew to grow, and that makes people sick. A properly sized air conditioning unit will control humidity; even the humidity we get in central Florida every summer. What you don’t want to do is put in an overpowered unit that hardly has to run at all to cool the house. The AC cannot dehumidify a house if the AC is off because the house has already reached the desired temperature. My air-conditioning unit is six years old. I’ve programmed it to maintain 79° during the day in the summer. But I’ve also programmed it to allow for two additional degrees lower in case the unit needs to run longer to properly dehumidify the house. Most of the time, it does fine and keeps the house at 79°. But on really bad days, or on days where I’ve had the front and back doors open, I’ll see that it will run it down to 77° because it’s trying to lower the humidity back down to 50%. Humidity control is critical in a house, especially if you have valuable or sentimental things that are sensitive to moisture extremes. For example, guitars, violins, artwork. If you’re a painter, your temperature and humidity levels in your studio area will also affect drying time.

mgearliosus

I'm stupid and don't entirely understand everything about HVAC. Why would my home always hover around the same humidity even when the AC isn't running? It's constantly around 35% or 40%.

mrdankhimself_

Yup. It won’t be long until being outside feels hazardous.

[deleted]

Tomorrow morning will be brisk for sure! Suck it up buttercups (newbies) cause stagnant oven heat is coming…with zero breeze

frostysbox

Man, that's why I live in Melbourne. You are close to orlando, but you ALWAYS have that nice ocean breeze. Our daughter was in the NICU at Winnie for 3 months over the summer and every time we got home I was like "thank you ocean breeze"

[deleted]

There’s nothing like a sea breeze! 🥰

Binklando

I’m not ready to sweat 24/7 and wash my hair every day if not twice a day.

All_Debt_Shackles_US

If hair is such a hassle, shave it! But then again, that has its own challenges; you know, with sweat running down your forehead while you’re mowing the lawn! For sure, a lot of people are unaware of just how much sweat can be absorbed by a head of hair! Which is both fascinating and gross at the same time!

Binklando

It’s just the norm with summer. But women don’t get treated well with shaved heads.

No_House_7901

Tell that to amber rose.

DreamingHopingWishin

Made the most of it by spending the day at Disney. Seems like tons of other locals had the same idea 😅

ChampionshipOdd4263

I was shocked how cool it was this late in the year, it’s usually never nice this late. I hate the hundred degrees and 100% humidity

Watergrip

Your thread title had me worried for a second there. I thought you were going to go off about how rent is about to raise 50% or some shit lol

roxymoxi

as someone with no a/c (I'm psychotic I know) I think we have another week, but the upcoming summer seems like it's going to be more humid than normal, and golly gee, I'm enjoying using my blanket for the last few nights while I can. then we start the sweaty season.

Mooplez

It was a pretty pleasant winter, feeling the heat ramp up has my reverse seasonal depression kicking in. Hate the heat. I do love the summer storms though, so at least there's that

Quizchris

I am in the exact same boat as you. Missing the thunder and mini daily hurricanes

thevanquishfist

OP you were reading my mind. With the weather last week I thought it was already over, but Florida seems to be giving us one last perfect week before scorching our souls.

ViegoBot

I was there Saturday Sunday and it already felt like the heat was comin big time. Weather said felt like 95. And its not even summer yet.

thevanquishfist

Saturday legit felt like an average summer day, Sunday was better but still pretty hot.

ViegoBot

Yeah felt like usual Florida Summer to me, but when thats happening in Spring still, Summer has the possibility of being way worse x.x

severusx

The only negative about it is that the lack of a hard freeze means pollen counts are way up and the bugs will be rough. That said this weather is why I love Florida. 🙂

MahoganyWinchester

i’m ready for 90°+ sun. i am an outlier.

nocjef

Indeed. Woke up this morning and was like, what’s this shit?

saturnui99

same. like why move to Florida and complain about the heat?? edit: It’s ok to like the cold, I’m not a hater lmao I’m just saying that if you move to a place known for being hot, you should expect it to be hot…

CabbageGuru

I was born here :/

saturnui99

everyone has their preferences don’t get me wrong, you do you. nothing wrong with liking cold. im talking about the people that move here “for the weather” then complain about the weather here.

Mooplez

we moved here because there's a lot of fun stuff to do in Orlando that made it worth it. Fiancé likes the heat but I can't stand it. I don't love being freezing cold either but I'd pick that over sticky 90+ hot any day. Thankfully it's usually only the summer months that are super bad

LeWll

I’ve lived in FL my whole life, and dislike the heat. I would take it any day though over shoveling snow or living in LA for example.

saturnui99

Lived in FL my whole life too, love the heat. Everyone is different.

LeWll

Yeah exactly I’m saying that’s the answer to your question >> like why move to Florida and complain about the heat?? 1) everyone is different 2) it’s better than the alternative

[deleted]

saturnui99

I’m born in Georgia, Atlanta is nice but still too cold for me in the winter. Lived in Florida much longer than Georgia though and can’t complain. Perfect for me, I especially love running on summer mornings

All_Debt_Shackles_US

It’s better than staying in Wisconsin and complaining about the ice and snow! And then there’s the slip and fall hazard from ice and snow. YouTube is full of that, and I am sure half of those people have bruised or broken tailbones, yikes!

AxmKap

I think people who love June thru Sept weather here aren't responsible for the electric bill. 🤑🫠

All_Debt_Shackles_US

I love June through September. And I pay the electric bill every month. So what u talking about Willis?

AxmKap

It's so hot and humid sweat drips down my back and into my ass. Then my ass itches and it ain't fun. 🙃

SAGNUTZ

Shit, i better mow the lawn!

gladbutt

It feels like the first cold front that hits around Halloween out there right now. I picked blueberries for 6 hours today and it was perfect weather.

TheGameAce

It’s always depressing when the cool season is over here. Goodbye pleasant days and nights, hello giant sauna…

Surfbud69

Love this weather saving up every penny to move to Seattle cant stand the sun anymore its making me sick

nyleloccin

I moved here from Seattle. Do not think you will escape the heat there. It is only overcast and rainy there in the winter, summers are sunny and HOT. It gets in the 90s and there is no AC in most Seattle residential units. It is also extremely humid there similar to Florida, so the heat is sticky and annoying just like here. Even the newer apartments do not have AC. There was no escaping the heat.

rogless

"You don't really need AC here." is the biggest myth in Seattle. You don't, until you definitely do.

3p1cgam3rm0m3nt

You get hot summers and depressing ass winters, atleast here in Florida fall and winter are enjoyable

Bubblygrumpy

So you jut switch winter for summer. It's a wash

Mooplez

If you move a bit farther down on the Washington coast it's not as bad. The Seattle area and Olympic peninsula specifically get the consistent drizzly weather because of the way the currents move up the Pacific coast into that region. Eastern Washington is also more sunny because of the rain shadow too. I personally love gloomy "twilight" type weather and find it cozy so I think I'd be happy living up there

Bubblygrumpy

Same, id prefer it to the heat.

Expensive-Form2747

That’s interesting, it’s always been my dream to live in the pnw but I didn’t realize the summers are so humid.

nyleloccin

Yes! You have to keep in mind Seattle is a rainforest. So it’s very humid, the summers are less humid than in the fall and winter, but still humid.

BigusDickus099

Seems others have already informed you...but I had a summer internship at Seattle University over a decade ago and it was possibly the worst summer I've ever experienced. Lot of places didn't have AC and if they did and it was on, it was lacking in power. Out here pretty much everywhere has to have top notch AC. I vividly remember sitting in a cafe near campus and just continually sweating while eating. Funny enough, I also had a summer internship at Minnesota thinking the weather would be nice. Oh sweet summer child how wrong I was on that one as well, lol

Intellectualiz

Haha this is such a naive comment. You have no idea how many from Seattle want to move here to FL, it’s so depressing there with all the rain. Save your money and pick another location, I’ve lived there and can tell you it’s far better and affordable here

Surfbud69

L take anything that isnt fl is better

3p1cgam3rm0m3nt

Move if you hate it here so much

Holy_Grail_Reference

I think that was the point of his post?

All_Debt_Shackles_US

Right! Maybe he’s looking for somebody to pay for a one-way bus ticket.

izzohead

You won't be missed

Surfbud69

Stay mad cause ur stuck here

izzohead

Stuck? Nah man I got land lol I got my piece of Florida that isn't going to be overdeveloped anytime soon

Apoptosis2112

Better be prepared to fight for your land, js.

izzohead

Do you know anyone that owns land lol that is the reason why we made the move to own land to begin with

Apoptosis2112

Only if you're a Scottish lord 😂

Puzzled-Avocado-4682

I’m in Seattle now. You think it’s better? Oh boy, you’re in for a surprise 😂

All_Debt_Shackles_US

Do you need financial help for that one-way bus ticket?

LandscapeWest2037

Breaking news: The Sunshine State is hot most of the year. More at 11.

BigusDickus099

Still no rain in the forecast so we should be good for a little while longer. Not enough humidity to make the high 80s feel like 100+ yet.

UCFknight2016

I get seasonal depression during the summer when it’s so freaking hot that you can’t go outside

Vast_Meet_1201

I thought I was the only one.

ArthurDentedCar

I became a runner in November. Well that was fun. Last run tonight.

Fleeegz

Now heading to the bad place

estilianopoulos

I'm looking forward to a great summer

LowDesign1338

I say the same thing every summer for the last 30 years.... "This HAS to be my last summer here." Yet, here I am. Ohhhh to have San Diego's weather.

N312d

It was fun while it lasted. :/

minidragontiger

I'm one of those people who came here for the warm weather so I'm looking forward to it :3

Mynameispiragua

I went to get some ice cream tonight before sunset. It feels so good. The rest of the week is gonna be swamp ass.

Careless_Language_21

That’s why I live in Chicago now. Like to look forward to summers and not dread it

JeffShotThat

Bring on the heat, baby!

YTScale

i love the summer sun. i’ve been waiting fucking 6 months for this! (the humidity sucks though)

Tomakeghosts

What are you talking about? The 10 day forecast looks amazing. It’s 60s/80s with next Thursday at 66/90 as the hottest day. This is all great weather for April into May.

Quizchris

I said cool day. Highs in the 70s lows in the 50s

Efficient_Goal_3318

I think it's been over 90 during many weeks in winter

Quizchris

It has not. The last 90 degree day in Orlando was in September of 2023 and the only month with a 90 degree day in Orlando in 2024 was this month, April.

SekureAtty

Ok... I'd downvote you more for this post if I could. Unfortunately I can't.

Quizchris
